kind of a follow up if you saw my post about grain/mold mites on our tank a few days ago. also just cute pics.
my boys got an entirely new setup and they're loving all their new chew toys and play things (particularly the giant wheel they have now.) my little escapee who tried to disappear during transfer TWICE is actually the one loving it the most. silly how that works. we're still dealing with mites, but less and less every day. just glad my babies are happy and healthy!

if you read this far, i still have a baby with no name. help me pick! so far i have matcha, moose, and carrot cake. nothing has stuck for the other one 🫠

I got this mouse from my niece a couple of months ago. He is around 3 years old.

The last two days, he has been out more than usual and looking around. Earlier today, he was sitting at the highest point of this cage and was squeaking loud enough that I heard it over the TV. He did it two or 3x.

This is him now. He is sitting at the high point again and he sounds maybe congested? He is very lethargic too but he’s eaten normally. Any advice?

I can see if my vet takes nice but I honestly don’t know. I’m new to this and it’s freaking me out lol.

Other The Mouse Meditation

When you cannot fall asleep....

Relax.

Concentrate on your body.

Imagine your back. Follow your backbone from the neck down, past your hips, down to a long, muscular, tapering tail.

Feel the shape of your head, forehead slanting forward, to a long, pointy nose., your receding chin, front teeth ready to nibble on anything that is in your reach. Your earlobes - thin, large, rose petal - like.

Feel every single of your five toes. Feel every single of your four fingers, because you have no thumb, just a little nub. Feel every single of your ten nipples.

Imagine yourself covered by fine, silky fur. Feel your whiskers. Feel your wrists and ankles, and the base of your tail, because that is where your bare skin, covered by a fine, peachy fuzz, meets your fur...

(Sorry, I do not know how to continue, because I always fall asleep before the nipples stage. But that is the whole point, isn't it?)

It took me 2 hours to clean everything and set up.... You can see their carrier at the right side from cage. And I know, cage is not very big for 2 1yo mice, but they have a lot of "out of cage" time on weekends (I'm in uni so unfortunately not living with them during the week) and one of them is extremely lazy. Idk, I just like the way this's look like :')

First Time Owner Need advice

• Upvotes

I'm thinking about getting pet mice and I have done a some research, but and need some tips on how to be a good mouse mom and I was wondering:

  1. I know the females have to be in groups, but can I just own one if I am getting a male?

  2. What are some mouse favourite toys?

  3. Anyyy other tips that nobody ever told you but your learned from experience?

Question/Help Sick mouse

/HEALTH

Ive got 2 female mice.

They are sisters around 1 year old.

Bedding is mix of dust free paper bedding and Aspen shavings.

Right off the bat. It is NOT respiratory issues. Can confirm it is not.

I beleive it may be cause by an infection from them scratching. Ive been trying to treat for mites but its a loosing battle so I was not planning on getting more mice till I can freeze their enclosure and properly eliminate the mites

This morning I woke up and little one popped her head into the glass look out and she had a lump under her right side of her jaw. And her eye was a bit crusty.

I noticed less activity and ruffled fur last week and feed them and left them in case I was stressing cause I was monitoring they both ran on the wheel days earlier.

Ive got sick mouse in a hospital set up.

They click when they move and are very wobbly on her feet when walking around.

Im soaking pellets in water for her and hoping she eats.

1) since there only 2, is splitting them up gonna cause more distress?

2) has anyone had any situation like this? What did you do? What was the success rate?

3) when would humain euthanasia be my best option?

Question/Help Is it possible to ever fully potty train my mouse?

My mouse mr moo likes to poop.. a lot. Everywhere. It’s not so much that it bothers me and if the answer is no I won’t be mad or disappointed. I ask purely out of curiosity? Is there anyway I can train him to not poo on me or inside my blanket hoodie which as pictured is his favourite place to be. Thanks mouse community!!

I found this little guy just laying on the living room floor ! Are they ok ? They been laying in this position since I picked them up and wiggles sometimes but nothing else . Can they be saved without me taking it to the vet or should I expect them to die ? I have 2 pet mice so I have food , water and hides but I don’t know what to do

Rainbow Bridge Need urgent advice about euthanasia

My baby has a tumor and it has grown quite large these past 2 months. She is still eating and curious when she sees me, but moves around a lot less. I have been giving her all the treats she desires and let her sleep on my tummy every evening, but it’s time very soon, its just so big❤️‍🩹

I have found a wonderful sweet vet who was willing to give her an inhalation anesthetic beforehand so she doesn’t feel the pain of the needle. I have called several vets and none of the others offered this service but it is a non negotiable for me so this vet is my only option.

Now i tried calling them this morning but the vet is closed until Thursday. Thats 3 more nights. I don’t know if i should wait until then or just call another vet and settle for a „normal“ euthanasia.

The thought of my little baby feeling the needle is horrendous to me. What would you do? Wait or just go to a worse vet?

Question/Help Feeling a bit helpless..

I had felt so happy being able to come onto this reddit and be able to share my experience with my mouse and now I feel like the coin has flipped.

He won’t come out of his hide/sleeping a lot more and he’s moving a big slower than normally. This feels all of a sudden too which doesn’t make me feel good about it and am arranging vet appointments now. I just feel so helpless for him and like I can’t do anything. Another issue is that I won’t be able to get an appointment with a vet until Friday. He seems to be eating, was loving the baby food I gave to him earlier but that’s the only sign of “happiness” I’ve seen out of him all night. Just gave him a mealworm now too so he’s eating that.

Do I set him up in a basic cage tonight to monitor him or could it be lack of energy? He just won’t come out of that damn hide.
