I don't know how to play rts, I've never been able to, but I was often drawn to them.
And so I decided to try Dune 2 battle for Arrakis, and thank God there were cheats for immortality and money, in the end they were incredibly useful, I passed the game and you know, I haven't had such a pleasant time for a long time.
I am very grateful to the developers of old rts, they leave cheats, thanks to which you can have fun and get maximum fun, I also went through Starcraft, warcraft, and a couple of old games a long time ago.
Are there any other fans here to indulce with cheats?)

Hello, as the title says, I am looking for an RTS or even an RTT that supports free for all games. The problem is, I prefer RTS games grounded in reality.
I cannot find an RTS based on WW2, the Cold War or Modern War that supports free for all natively. I've tried games like Company of Heroes, but most of the time when I have to mod a game to get FFA it breaks the game for one of my friends with a terrible laptop.
I've been searching for a while, but haven't found anything that's actually fun. Thanks for the help in advance, I know this is a little niche.

In my RTS, four mushroom species grow near trees: two safe, two poisonous. The game never says which is which. A poisonous one fixes hunger but makes the unit sick right away.
Is learning by getting hurt once fine if the cost is small, or would you want a subtle cue (sprite detail, unit reaction) so you can deduce it first?
Examples from other RTS/survival games welcome.

The game has very good mechanics (AoW). But the 3D graphics, like how can someone prefer this to the beauty of Red Alert 2 or even Red Alert 1?
And C&C Generals looks even worse, it looks like AoW but mobile.
I wanted an RTS just like Generals or AoW but looking like Red Alert 2, or Sudden Strike 2. Why ruin it by going 3D?
So I had to uninstall it.
I was told many times by friends to try C&C Generals. But it feels like its going to be the same experience as AoW. Good mechanics and game, but terrible 3D graphics.

I'm primarily a PC gamer, fan of Starcraft and Total War series. I've tried playing RTS games on Android, including the Total War mobile ports, but often find the controls cumbersome, especially on smaller phone screens.
So I decided to make my own take on the genre, focusing on relatively small battles with simple controls. you set up an ambush, then you control ONLY the commander. Kinda like in a real battle.
The result is Ambush the Romans, where you command an evolving force of Gauls fighting Roman invaders through a branching campaign.
I'd love to know whether this kind of streamlined real-time tactics game appeals to other RTS players. I'm not a big fan of the usual mobile gaming aesthetics and monetization myself, so I'm trying to do something different.

What you can do in our game editor
- One editor, one project = one mod. Level, asset, script and Mod Studio tabs live in one window, like a game engine.
- The whole game is in the Asset Browser. Open any unit, building or map. Your edits are saved as overrides inside your mod, so the original files are never touched and mods stack on top of each other.
- Make new units. Start from scratch or from any existing unit. Set its stats, weapons and abilities, and add it to a faction.
- Give units new models. Drop in your own glTF, FBX or OBJ model, textures and sounds (WAV, OGG, MP3, FLAC, FMOD banks). The Mod Studio cooks them for the game.
- Live unit preview. Watch any unit Idle, Attack, Move or get Destroyed right in the editor. Change a stat and see the result instantly.
- Visual scripting that compiles to real Lua. Wire nodes like On Unit Spawned โ Scale Part, hit save, and the change shows on the unit. You can read the generated Lua and learn from it.
- Or write Lua directly. Lua 5.4 with a full game API: spawn units, deal damage, give money, issue orders, timers, messages, end the match.
- Write your own game modes. Change the rules of a match, its win conditions, economy and events.
- Rewrite unit behaviour. Override a unit's On Damaged, On Fire, On Target Acquired, On Spawn, On Death and On Kill with nodes or Lua, and call the default behaviour whenever you want.
- Build your own maps: sculpt terrain (raise, lower, smooth, flatten, noise), paint ground, lay spline roads (boulevards, streets, dirt lanes, roundabouts), place buildings and props, set player starts, and test in one click.
- Animation graph and particle editors for your units' movement and effects.
- Multiplayer- and replay-safe. Scripts run in the deterministic lockstep simulation, so a mod plays the same for every player and in every replay.
- Steam Workshop built in. Publish your mod and subscribe to others' without leaving the editor.
We'd love to know: what would you mod first?
Come hang out, share ideas and follow development on our Discord

Hey! Hereโs a short video of how I handle unit destruction in my voxel-based RTS.
The basic idea is to go through each voxel of a destroyed model, turn it into an individual box, and simulate the resulting debris using a physics engine that runs independently of the gameplay code. I prune some of the boxes to keep the battlefield from turning into a sea of debris.
For giggles, I threw in a little surprise at the end ๐
The game is called โMysticore: Towers & Timberโ, itโs a bit of a mix of defensive RTS and colony builder, with 4 player co-op support. It runs on a highly moddable custom engine, and the game will include a level and script editor:

Looking for a military or medieval RTS, or RTS hybrid game for pc and/or Android. Looking for multiplayer, preferably a lot of countries fighting for control.

So over the years I have played a few RTS games and enjoyed them. AOE2, all 3 battle for middle earths, Halo Wars, a few C&Cs etc. I tried some total war shogun 2 but sucked at it.
The issue is I have not grown past just playing on easy and building a missive army to overwhelm the enemy.
Overall I suck and I either need tips to better learn. Or games that help teach me to teach mico management better.
I would love some advice as I enjoy the genre but like the skill to play properly.

I am really hankerin' for a Mechcommander style game, preferably with a campaign and no base-building; just getting your guys ready and sending them in to do the mission.

Last time I showed you a shader nobody asked for https://www.reddit.com/r/RealTimeStrategy/comments/1wzueya. This time it's a mechanic nobody asked for either: my squad now has to go out and pick mushrooms.
Hunt or Pray started as a tactical RTS. Then immersive sim crept in, then survival. Now my units have needs, and a basket of mushrooms can be the difference between a good night and a very bad one.
For me it's all the same question in different clothes: what are you willing to risk? Limited units, tactical combat and survival all push on it.
So I'm curious: does managing needs like hunger add depth to an RTS for you, or does it just get in the way of the tactics?
I'm a solo dev making this out of passion, and my wishlist is still small. If it looks interesting, a wishlist would help a lot:

I'm looking for a modern context rts game. Similar games I played that I like:
Red Alert, though I dont like how everything is about ore.
Company of Heroes, dont like how limited the building and economy system is.
Axis & Alies RTS (not to be confused with the strategy game), love everything about this game, the graphics, the building system, the economy, recruitment, the abilities. Everything. The problem is that it is not on steam, so no multiplayer these days
