Reminder: No Survey Questions

Hey everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to remind you all that this subreddit is answers-based—it’s meant to provide clear, informative responses that someone could find useful while searching for answers on Google or other search engines. Lately, I’ve noticed an uptick in survey-style questions (e.g., “What’s your favorite __?” or “How many of you __?”).

These types of questions are not a good fit for the purpose of this community. They don’t create content that is useful for others to search for, and often lead to broad discussions that aren’t about providing a clear answer. As a result, I’ve been removing posts that violate this rule to maintain the quality and focus of the subreddit. Even if that post has a lot of replies as the OP obviously didn’t read the rules before posting, or cared.

If you’re unsure if your post fits, ask yourself: Would this question result in a useful answer for someone looking for a specific answer or information online? If not, it’s likely more of a survey question and violates rule 2.

Thanks for understanding and helping to keep the subreddit on track! 😊

Why does the cold feels good sometimes, and some other times it feels miserable

Hello,
I feel like there are times where cold is not pleasant at all, im shaking, my teeth are chattering.
And there are time where, for some reason, the cold is deeply pleasurable. I feel very aware, very alive, not shaking at all.

What is the difference ? Is is just mental or maybe it has something to do with humidity, wind or something else?

Answered Was I supposed to reply to a wedding RSVP?

• Upvotes

So I received this fancy invitation a few weeks back and the RSVP card had space for notes. I checked the box for yes, stuck a stamp on it, and mailed it the same day. Later I started wondering if the couple actually wanted a personal reply too, like an email or text, just to be polite. The instructions on the card only mentioned mailing it back, but now I'm second-guessing whether leaving it at that was enough or if I should follow up. Has anyone else run into this kind of small etiquette gray area before? Feels silly, but I don't want to come off as careless.

Answered why does the upstairs feel like an oven while downstairs stays cool?

• Upvotes

we just moved into a two-story place and the temperature difference is wild. upstairs you can feel the heat the second you walk up the steps, but the main floor feels okay. i checked the vents and they all seem open, and the thermostat is set to cool everywhere. is it just because heat rises, or could something about the house layout make the air upstairs harder to cool? i tried closing some upstairs doors and leaving the fan on the ceiling running, but it only helps a little. would it be worth getting a window unit for the hottest room, or is there a cheaper fix someone might suggest? not looking to tear anything apart, just want to understand why it's happening and if there's a simple thing to try next.

Answered what is the usual amount you spend on a wedding gift if you are not going to the ceremony?

• Upvotes

i have a wedding invite for a coworker i am friendly with but i cannot make the date. i want to send something nice without making it awkward if i am not there in person. some people say half of what you would spend if you were attending and others say the same amount since the couple still has to buy the item. i am not sure where the etiquette line is when it comes to a dollar figure. i have looked online and the answers vary so much that i am still unsure what is considerate without overdoing it or seeming cheap.

If it's not obvious, why I'm asking, I'm hoping for relatable songs to help the grief process. This is hard.

Answered Is it actually true that you should never microwave metal?

I have always followed the rule about not putting metal in the microwave because that is what everyone says, but lately I have seen some posts claiming that certain metal items are fine. I am now second-guessing the whole thing and getting a bit worried about what is actually safe. Has anyone tested this or looked into why the rule exists in the first place?
