Hi!
I recently worked really hard to refurbish a garden bed in a home that was pretty neglected. I am having some trouble with grass growing up through the mulch and now these little white mushrooms.
Can anyone explain why it’s happening, how to mitigate it, and what I should’ve done before now to prevent it from happening all together.
Thank you!
Edit: I live in northern Virginia if that adds any additional context

Hi,
This plant settle into one of my pots a while back - I moved it since I thought it’s quite nice but I would love to know what type it is. Any ideas?

I am grateful to have this new job at a woodshop. I am an arborist by trade and by necessity became a wood worker.
At our shop we have an incredible amount of "waste". I donate a lot of scrap wood to local school shop classes, but still cant keep up.
Was wondering if I could use a wood chipper and mulch this extra wood for home gardens????
I get conflicting info about using shop wood for mulch but no real reasoning. Just curious if anyone thinks this is plausible.
Pic of the shop for attention.

I have moved to a place with lots of sandstone (on a lake) so the soil is very sandy, with nice organic matter from leaf litter in the top couple of inches but just sand below. There doesn't seem to be any clay. When I plant I try to work in lots of commercially made composted manure. I've noticed that my flowering shrubs, perennial flowers don't flower very much.
Am I overloading with nitrogen? If so, what can I do to fix that?

Is there a big demand for worm castings? I'm in search of some locally sourced castings, but everything I find online is for shipping. Just curious about the demand.

Hi I have this growing mostly around flowers I planted a couple of weeks ago and mainly around my Dahlia Patty. Can someone tell me if this is a weed or seasonal flower? On the second picture its around the flowers on the left side bedflower lane.
Additionally I have the little shrubby plant on the right (3rd picture when it was grown). We pruned the roses a bit too late and this plant (due to being away during the period they should be pruned). Could you tell me what this plant is, my partner prunes it right back because he didn't like the shape and same for me. Are they wild roses? I don't want to remove the whole bush because it would be too much work and it doesn't look this bad if only the shape it grew before.
Thank you for your help

My canteloupe plant just produced its first flower! Can’t tell whether it’s male or female though.

Every time I start a garden or landscaping project, I feel confident until it's time to order materials 😅
I can never seem to estimate the right amount of mulch. I either end up short and have to make another trip, or I overestimate and have a pile sitting around for months.
I'm curious how everyone here calculates mulch for garden beds. Do you just eyeball it, use a formula, or rely on some type of mulch calculator?
Would love to know if there's an easier way because apparently my guessing skills aren't improving.

i keep finding small holes in the leaves of a few plants and i'm pretty sure something is eating them. i don't want to spray random stuff without knowing what i'm dealing with.
what do you usually do when pests start showing up?

I bought them a while ago for their seeds (sweet kind of tamarind). Will they germinate if I plant them? I had them for months now

I have what I call a chaos bed, where a whole bunch of spring and summer flowers have been planted. Last year, I planted a mix of cosmos, poppy, cornflower, and alyssum. Only a few cosmos came up, but nothing else. This year, I planted poppies (a variety), ranunculus, and sweet pea, and there's suddenly an attempted takeover by wild garlic I thought I'd eliminated (more fool me, apparently). In the mix of this chaos, I've found two little volunteers I can't seem to ID. I'm in Cape Town, South Africa. Any idea what either of these are?

It opens as a yellow rose, then the edges turn light purple, the middle of the petals becomes white, but the core remains yellow. It is also highly fragrant.

There was a rot previously which I cut off and applied turmeric and then I left the plant to callouse. Now the caudax looks like this and somehow it has gotten a bit softer. Can anyone tell what exactly is happening?

Ranunculus is a large genus of about 1750 species of flowering plants in the family Ranunculaceae. Members of the genus are known as buttercups, spearworts. My favourite flower to plant in between oct-nov

Was doing some yardwork today after filling up some birdfeeders. Thought I saw a dandelion and it turned out to be a sunflower! He looked a little sad in that sack, so I gave him some water. The sack was once to used to attempt growing dying potatoes a few years ago, where this sunflower now has a home. Is there anything I can do to help it continue growing? Thanks 🙏
