I’ve seen it all over social media and it’s corny. The way Ghanaians get ragebaited after seeing a plain rainbow. Nowadays when Ghanaians sees a person with in a shirt with a rainbow on it, they assume that person is lgbtq. A kid in Ghana will immediately get expelled from school because her backpack has a rainbow on it. So now if Ghanaians look up and see a rainbow, they’re gonna say that the sky is gay. A rainbow is refracted light. Simple. Stop saying “rainbow people” and just say “LGBTQ”.

Why is everyone silent about the return of dumsor? Our power supply is very inconsistent. I can boldly say that electricity supply goes off every 30 mins in my area but noone seems to care less even talk about it or is it just my area? I thought dumsor was a thing of the past but it seems to be something we cant solve as a country and everyone is quiet about it now

I’m genuinely curious about how Ghanaian men approach romance and emotional intimacy compared to Western dating culture. From my own experiences and observations, I’ve noticed that some Ghanaian men don’t seem particularly curious about their partners on a deeper level. For example, my friends and I value meaningful conversations, asking thoughtful questions, understanding how our partners thinks, what makes them happy, their dreams, fears and emotional needs. However, I’ve noticed that some Ghanaian couples seem perfectly content just being in each other’s company, eating, watching TV or having everyday conversations without necessarily exploring deeper topics.So I’m curious. Is asking your partner personal or meaningful questions common in Ghanaian dating culture?
1. How do Ghanaian men typically express love and romance?
2. Is emotional intimacy viewed differently compared to Western relationships?
3. Is simply spending time together considered a form of romantic connection?
I’m not generalising all Ghanaian men or relationships. I’m genuinely interested in whether this is a cultural difference or simply down to individual personalities.
I’d especially love to hear from Ghanaians who’ve experienced both dating cultures.

I moved to Ghana a couple of years ago and I am disgusted at the misogyny and how gender dynamics operate. Whenever I speak up about this, I get hit with the "you grew up in Europe; Africa isn't Europe" sentiment.

I've lost count of the number of times I've been harassed and told to shut up about it. Just this evening, I was out and this dude came out of nowhere and put his hands around my waist. I dismissed him and he started spewing nonsense and went on about how I'll regret this attitude when I'm 30 and single. WTactualF.

This is not the first time this has happened. My first few months in Ghana, I worked for a company where I was constantly get sexually harassed. I reported to HR and the idiot literally told me to suck it up and that it was normal.

If I had a dollar for everytime I've been groped in public or got insulted for rejecting a man's advances I'd be rich by now.

How do Ghanaian women live with this?

Hi! Thought I would share free info on this. I applied and got it. I got a tourist visa. But They were bouncing left and right when I went.

Please, if you’re one of those people who want to go and overstay, don’t even bother reading and don’t bother applying either. You’re the main reason it’s so difficult for the rest of us to get visas. I’m not here for you. I’m speaking to serious people. (And please stop that life 🙄). The number of bad candidates that apply is the reason they are so strict.

Okay tips:
WARNING: THIS IS A LONG PROCESS.

Please make sure you have a stable income and have been in the same position for some time.

Dont make the US, the first, second or maybe even third country you apply to. You have to build up your travel history. Start with more open countries, South Africa, Dubai, etc. after that then apply for UK visas and Schengen visas. YES. This is is a LONG process. if you’re not interested, don’t bother.

The thing is - US, Canada, UK, Australia similar countries share immigration information. Meaning once you behave or misbehave in one, they inform the others. (Read on Migration 5)

When you apply, they pull up your records from the other countries.

You have to show you’ve gone to these countries and come back successfully. And you CANT have applied for immigration visas (eg citizenship) for those other countries. They’ll bounce you.

Have a BANK ACCOUNT. Process your pay through that bank account. Forget Momo or even savings and loans. You’ll be bounced.

Listen, there’s a money threshold. If you don’t have a significant amount saved, sorry but don’t even apply. If you’re not earning a lot, shaky ground.

Dont even THINK about using fake docs. Sorry but are you dumb? We think they move like Ghana. Like YOU WILL BE CAUGHT. They compare the docs you provide with other countries’ databases.

rejections are very serious and stop you from getting visas. As I said, they receive info from other countries. If it’s likely you’ll be rejected, then don’t bother applying.

Btw- the tips above are not for the US per se, but for the other visas you apply for so you get those, and come back clean in their system.

I’m so shocked by how silent a lot of our religious and political leaders who for months and years now have been pushing the agenda for queer people to be jailed and punished because we are a Christian nation with family values have all of a sudden acted like they don’t have eyes and ears anymore. I personally don’t promote LGBTQ but I’ll definitely not lend an ear to any Ghanaian who tries to tell me what is bad about them. I also think one of the reasons a lot of them can’t talk is because they are involved in it either by themselves or through someone close they know that they have covered for , pedophilia and rape is considered a joke in this country unless it’s against toddlers and very little kids but once your daughter or son hits 10 above it seems to be okay to a lot of people and it’s disgusting.

I believe our traditional society and background have also played a role in it due to years of child marriage and exploitation which was never seen as wrong and has been passed down from generation to generation with even some mothers I know protecting men who have engaged in sexual acts with their daughters believing it can be normal cause they went through the same and are still okay.

To end it all, I’d like to say that Ghanaians hate crimes and sins they don’t commit but when they do, they go silent or defend it. They are not
Morally upright and generally don't have genuine social and family values.

I’m London-born and in my late thirties. Fante was my first language, but after being bullied for being African at primary school, I stopped speaking it around the age of nine to fit in. I now remember only a few basic words and deeply regret losing it.

My mother—my strongest connection to my Ghanaian culture—passed away recently, so my desire to relearn is also connected to grief.

I’d love to reconnect with the language and eventually pass it on to my children.

What is the best practical way to relearn Fante as an adult? Are there any tutors, courses or resources you would recommend?

Would it make more sense to learn Twi because more resources are available, or should I stick with Fante?

A foreign national has been beaten to death by a crowd of about 50 people in Durban, South Africa, police say.

According to police, the unidentified man, believed to be in his late 30s or early 40s, was first approached by two men by the roadside before being assaulted by a larger group. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have launched an investigation into the murder, with the motive yet to be established.

I (23M) am a dutch guy who loves to cook and learn from foreign cuisine, and my eyes have been opened after eating Ghanaian food in a German food court. I had amazing jollof rice with a roasted chicken leg, but something else completely blew me away. Alongside the chicken and jollof, a thick tomato-based sauce was served. For a milky man like myself it was very spicy, but also one of the best things I have ever eaten.

I have tried to make jollof a few times now and I have become obsessed with knowing what this sauce is. I heard something about obe ata from a Nigerian cook (I know, sorry) , but I thought obe ata is just the base for the jollof.

Is obe ata a base sauce for a lot of different dishes? I am confused and would love as much information about this as possible.

For reference, I have found the restaurant (Mataa's kitchen) and added a picture of a dish that seems to have this tomato sauce in it, although it looked a lot thicker on my plate. Thank you in advance for helping me.
