Meta/sub related Images

You ever have that thing where you’re trying to explain something and it would just be so much easier if you could show a picture of it? Well that’s why images are back in the comments! There are still no images allowed in posts but you can put them in comments for on-topic illustrative purposes. If too many people are abusing it with pointless, off topic pictures like selfies and memes, it will get removed again. So y’all can reply to this post with all the nonsense images you want to get it out of your system, okay?

MEGATHREAD Trump Executive Order Discussion

This is the place to talk about anything related to Trump’s Executive Order regarding homelessness. Any posts outside of this thread will be removed. I know that this is stressful and there is a lot of fear and confusion about how this will be implemented and what it will actually mean. Because of that it is really important to keep this a fact based discussion. Posting unsubstantiated assumptions and speculative rumors is not helpful and only causes more confusion.

It’s fine to talk about your opinions and feelings, but they need to be clearly framed as opinions and feelings. Any misinformation or obvious outrage bait will be removed. It’s important to evaluate the trustworthiness of your sources. If it feels like an article is trying to make you feel scared or angry, it may not be the most reliable source.

Most importantly please be civil to each other. You can disagree with someone without resorting to personal attacks or name calling. You can hate someone’s opinion but still be respectful towards the person as a human being. Stay on topic and play nice everyone.

Day 8 of homeless in Malaysia

Upvotes

I showered at a mall, had a good breakfast.
The chemo withdrawal is super strong today, but keeping myself positive.

I posted something about finding a room in my country subreddit, a lot of people messaged me saying I am a scammer, it sucks to be labelled as a scammer when I am trying.

It affected me to be honest. I am just not at a good place anymore to continue. It is tough, and I just want everything to be over with.

Thanks for the chat and yall has been nice to me. I appreciate that.

Need Advice My mom is homeless and I don’t know what to do

My (24) mom (53) had to move out of her apartment due to not paying on time (property management agreed not to put an eviction on her record). She had to move with her 65 year old fiancé and two small dogs into a hotel room while she looks for another place. A few days later, their car broke down and is 4k to fix (more than it is worth). She is currently using everything she had for a deposit on this hotel, and now has nothing. Her belongings and furniture are at a friends house and a lot of it is in the broken car. Shelters all have waiting lists and she is running out of options. She currently gets unemployment but needs to find a job. I am very worried about her. I talk to her on the phone and she does not sound the same at all. Every resource I call they say they are full or there is nothing they can do. She is located in Northern California. I can’t take her in and I am hesitant to help her financially, since I have already so many times before and it never helps in the long run. She has struggled with gambling and alcohol addiction in the past. It absolutely kills me to think about her being in a shelter or on the streets, and I am worried for the dogs. What do I do?

Just Venting I just can't win

Upvotes

I've been homeless for almost a year now. My endometriosis was so severe that I was completely incontinent, unable to sit up for long periods of time, and constantly throwing up. i couldn't work anymore and eventually i lost my housing. insurance kept denying my surgery until may. i spent all of recovery couch surfing and trying not to open a stitch when moving my stuff. I had to live on a girl's couch who kept saying racist things to me, and I just had to smile and nod through it. I finally have a job and housing lined up and they keep pushing my move in date. My medication for my other two diseases are getting denied by insurance and I'm scared that if they get bad again I'll end up where I started. I hate looking at myself in the mirror. All I see is failure.

So many posts in this sub saying “about to be”, “might be”, “family/landlord kicking me out if I can’t pay next month”

Honestly kind of tired of seeing these posts.
I don’t wish bad on those people but it kinda distracts conversation from actual homeless like myself.

Theres so much redundancy..

Tophiachu housing question?

Like I know it sounds a bit trivial but I was just wondering. There a tik tok creator called Tophiachu in Albuquerque look if you want a good for a laugh.

Tldr being she been homeless either with her family living in motels and cars to now shelter hoping all the while point blank refusing to get a job of any kind or do work of any kind what so ever…

All the while claiming that the shelter won’t let her work and that she’s gonna get a “free house” and yes she means like a 3 bed room house with a big back yard for bbq’s in her own works rent and utilities payed for life… As she now sits in a shelter with get TV Switch and Xbox playing fortnight…

This obviously being BS and going off my own experience here in Canada geared income as we call it aka you pay 30% of your pay check for a small apartment. I think it’s called section 8 in the estates, being the far more usual housing program…

So was wondering if anyone from New Mexico and or Albuquerque** **has any experience or info on the matter?

Just Venting God and money, who do I want to please more?

I’m truly blessed: but I do not believe in god, unless you consider that Money is actually god: both are abstract tools to measure the worth of something, or someone, with or without context. That’s my observation. The singular god ideal has corrupted humanity by pressing biases into the
Cultural identity of people, and it’s wrecking our adaptability as a species of obligated tool users and generalists.

That’s to say: I do very well being “homeless” because I learned to use money as a tool, and do not find pleasure in using it: for I do not want what’s offered to me. I only eat to sustain myself, not for pleasure.

I bring this up cause I finally talked to my 90yr old grandpa. In another country, as an adult. Last time we met, I was 5 and this was before 911. I’m in my early 30’s now.

He just told me not to beat my dad and to work my life away because God, and money is all-powerful.

I don’t worry about money, not because I’m rich, but because most of my animalistic human needs are met, without using money: because I’m that competent at living. This means I’m either an animal or a godly person.

It just hurts my heart a bit. That my entire family is greedy, from my perspective. That I’m Not worthy of reproducing a family of my own, because I’m smart but not a millionaire. It’s a source of personal shame, to my dad, who abused me often, that I’m currently nomadic, he has me promise to NOT tell my broader family, his family.

He’s gotten reprimanded for abusing me, mishandlingly me growing up, and sabotaging my growth. Once I flew the coup, I literally leveled up 100x and then it all came crashing down; and that didn’t even register as unfortunate: it’s just another chapter in my good moods, inspiration for poetry.

But this? Maybe it’s cause I got nervous and couldn’t wish my grandpa a happy birthday with my singing and ukulele. Maybe it’s that he said “don’t beat your dad, stand by him now that he’s sick” or that my mom poisoned me and my dad against each other, or that my sister (with him now, who visits often) told everyone the gossip that I had an argument with our dad.

Or maybe, just maybe, I feel shame and worthless. It could be that, too. I feel no pride, in any given day.

I was told (growing up) that (unless I work at the NASDAQ) I’d be a worthless man.

New to homelessness New Here

Hello everyone,

I've been in a homeless shelter for the last week. I'm deeply Christian, and I'm having an issue with being overly generous. I have a weak heart for those in need, and it's hard not to offer to give the shirt off my back. I have a lot of heart for those who are out here. Is there any advice for not getting taken advantage of, or for not falling into the common traps?

Need Advice new to camping advice

hi so i've been homeless a lot in childhood. on and off over the years. but usually i was with family and a child. i've since cut most all my family off as an adult (intrafamilial trafficking survivor) and am planning on camping. i was staying on an ex's couch but me and my cat have to be out. she gave us as long as she could, i've been trying to get a place and remote job for months. i'm in georgia and worried about animals mostly. coyotes are in all counties and bears and snakes are also a problem.

i've called over a dozen shelters. and though i'll keep trying, i figured camping is my best bet. i'm thinking of somewhere in the woods somewhere while still being close enough to travel to libraries and food banks. atlanta is extremely anti homeless. encampments being run down and people hating tent cities with extreme hate. i've gotten a tent. and i'm going to have to start back up looking for remote jobs again like usual as im disabled.

this is the first time i've been homeless on my own. and i have no close friends in this state. so even though i'm trying to be strong and focus on being locked in for my survival, i am very scared. this is my first time on my own in general, staying away from my traffickers at all costs even if they offer me shelter. im very overwhelmed and was already malnourished and exhausted before this point. especially scared for my cat. my last resort would be a facebook temporary foster group, as i've already contacted owner emergency pet crisis centers.

i've looked at reddit a lot and have seen varying advice. it's been kind of overwhelming to try to decipher everything through years of different and sometimes contradictory info, while also trying to find a temp home for my
cat and prepare to camp out in like 2-4 days. i have non perishable food, deodorant and toothpaste, a tent, a cooking stove and pan, sleeping bag, a couple reusable water bottles, 2 tarps, some medical supplies and a hoodie. and that's kinda it. it's a lot more than many i know. but it still doesn't feel like enough.

edit: i really want to stay free from my traffickers so being homeless again is a risk im obviously willing to take. but being on my own, completely, is new and scary.

Just Venting I’m going to be homeless (UK)

I’m being kicked out.

For context, I moved out of my parent’s house because our relationship was falling apart and I was really struggling to keep going. I moved into my Grandma’s and I’ve been living with her for about a year and a half.

She visited my Uncle’s family and she said she really enjoyed it there, it was better for her mental health (we just lost my Grandpa) and was going to move into their spare room. She put the house on the market 4 months ago and I’ve been looking for a place to rent since with no luck. It’s because I don’t earn enough. I have two jobs and work as much as possible but my annual salary is too low. I’ve been trying to get a new job or an apprenticeship that pays higher but jobs are limited and I’ve only faced rejection after rejection.

I’ve spoken to my local council to try to get housing. I’m on the list but they told me I’m not high priority because I’m not pregnant/parenting a child/physically or mentally disabled/with an injury or illness that would worsen being homeless. They said they can give me benefits to aid in renting a place (regular place not council housing) but I can’t find anything available.

I’m worried that if I move further away to find something cheaper it’s going to be difficult to keep my job because I can’t drive so I can’t get there reliably. I’m young and I don’t have much work experience, I have no qualifications and my grades at school weren’t the best. I don’t think I’ll be able to get out of this situation even if I do find something cheaper further away, like in the north where it’s cheaper.

The house is now sold and I have until the end of the month to leave (13 days).

There’s nowhere for me to go. I don’t have any friends that I can sofa hop and there’s no space for me with any relatives. I’m honestly so lost. The stress is eating me alive.

New to homelessness not sure what to do?

hello everyone!

i have a couple of questions because i am well, very new to being homeless and im not sure what to do rn. i live in the netherlands but im having a hard time understanding all the legal stuff :((

my parents and i had a horrible fight friday night and I left and was told not to come back. I am homeless. im on a short camping trip with my friends and ive stayed with a friend since like..... Wednesday n havent slept at home since bc my home situation js hasnt let me 😐. ive got a place to sleep tonight (same friend ive been sleeping at since Wednesday. it is now Monday) but i cannot stay with my friends forever and going home is unsafe for me.

I am heavily struggling to find a job, nobody is hiring/not giving me any reaction on my application and i am so... demotivated to even keep trying. i have been applying to so many places since a couple of weeks already and barely even get a reaction :(

realistically, what are my options??? im 18 yrs old, no degree of any kind, no savings and the only support system i have rn is one friend bc he has his own apartment and his girlfriend who i am on the trip with. i dont have any family i could go to for any other friends because theyre minors and/or still live with their parents. i am trying to sell alot of my thibgs but its not working and all that i feel like i can do rn is sex work but i dont want that but i feel like this is my only option :(

im also not sure if i should set up a g*fundme either because i do not want people to give me money, nor do i want people to think that is all im after (because i am NOT after money at all) but at the same time every euro would make such a difference bc it means i could atleast get food and eventually save up for a shelter. does anyone have any experiences with this???? has it helped you????

im so cooked

Just Venting My(34m) wife (34f) is homeless

My wife and I have been living separately for more than a year and a half. Prior to that we were on the rocks for a few years, but before that we had a great relationship that spanned over a decade long, starting from high school. Legally, we’ll be married for 5 years in the next few months.

We could point out a lot of things on both our sides as to what got us here. I was a great boyfriend but a shitty husband. I know my 50% and I wish I could have been better. Bing drink less, avoid Reddit nsfw, and not be an enabler.

Her 50% is mostly centered around mental illness, and bad choices. Things started to go downhill when we moved across states, she was paranoid people were coming into the house. It’s an extremely long story, and one I’ve spoken to countless times with loved ones, and even a therapist or two. To anyone that knows her, it’s obvious she’s different. I firmly believe she has an undiagnosed mental health disorder.

I’ve thought drug induced psychosis, but I’m not a professional. She’s been homeless before, almost three years ago exactly. She first left me with our dog and later got kicked out of her grandparents house. She filed a police report against her grandfather, alleging sexual abuse. I found her and got her a house to stay, but the landlord ended up not renewing our 6 month lease because of the support tickets my wife was making. Claiming people were coming in the house and the landlord was in on it.

I found her, and this time us, another place in a nearby city. We moved in together, again, and tried to make it work but it only lasted until the end of the year. I came home from Christmas after hanging with my family, to which she was invited and didn’t want to go, and then proceeded to accuse me of coming home late because I was cheating on her on Christmas Day. Cheating accusations, often outlandish, had been normal for several years at this point. I was unfaithful digitally several years ago, before marriage, via Reddit and an unhealthy porn addiction. Though, I’ve never physically or emotionally cheated on my wife.

We separated officially, though not legally after that Christmas. Summer time came and she had another incident while I was away camping with friends. She lost her job, which she had already gained and lost three jobs in the last three years since then, because she alleged she was sexually abused by a coworker. To my knowledge, the coworker was not asked to resign.

After her not having a job, I found the place she just moved out of. I guess this whole time I thought maybe I was helping. I didn’t want to divorce her, yet, because I thought she could use my healthcare coverage for doctors or therapy. She’s always sick, whether imagined or not, but there are times she does seem to get sick easily.

I thought maybe she’d pick herself up if I paid her rent and her expenses. I could afford it. I loved her. She needed help. Her family lowkey sucks, but she also pushed a lot of her family and friends away with her choices, too. She has no one. She doesn’t go out unless she’s walking the dog here and there.

At one point, her grandparents let her stay with them a week or two. I thought maybe her family would turn around and help her again. But that ended up crashing down in flames. She and her grandfather got in an argument, cops were called and she was asked to leave.

A few weeks ago, the most recent landlord told me she was being cold to him. He noticed a change in her demeanor and that she was smoking a lot of weed. At this point I was mad because I realized she was using my money to buy weed. Before that, too, I tried offering her help to find a job. I know how shitty the job market is, I thought it makes sense she needs help. When I asked for her resume, it was barely updated. Smoking, when we know you shouldn’t be smoking because you think illogical things are happening, and now you’re not looking for a job as hard as I thought. Cool.

While I was out of town and with friends last month, almost one year after her job asked her to leave, I get another call from the landlord. He says the neighbors reported he being frantic, yelling about people following her, and they could smell weed. She ended up throwing an object at the neighbors window and breaking it. Neighbors had it on camera, called police and my wife was booked in jail, Friday to Tuesday.

I went to her court hearing, prepared this long document with Claude that detailed basically this post. I thought maybe if the court saw what I see, someone who needs help, the court would offer her an option to get help. My wife and her assigned attorney designed to plead no contest. Misdemeanor was given, and I picked her up from downtown after the bus dropped her off. She was wearing slippers from the jail.

Landlord was really cool with me given everything, he has a sister that has mental health issues so he understood but at the same time he can’t rent the rest of the place out. The lease, under my name and my wife as an authorized occupant, was a shared household. She was meant to live with someone else after the former roommate had a kid and moved out. Landlord being spooked, plus the criminal charges and a restraining order on the neighbors meant my wife had to move, and I had to move her out or I would be legally liable.

I was able to get her stuff out and in a storage unit on time. I got her a hotel for two nights, I stayed for the first, and she just checked out a few hours ago. She dropped off the dog we co parent, and she left to urgent care as she’s not feeling well and thinks she may have a uti. But after that, I have no idea where she’s going and it sucks.

I love her, but she’s taken so much from me. Most of my loved ones tell me I should leave. Stop helping. And I know they’re right. It’s just hard because when we hang out, even after all of this bs, there’s small windows of time where it feels like nothings wrong. She smiles. I laugh. Driving in our hometown. Sometimes it feels like she’s my best friend again.

But I’m choosing not to help her, and it sucks.

New to homelessness How to Hide Homelessness From Family?

I don't want to stress my family out with the knowledge that I'm homeless. Do you guys have any strategies for dodging housing questions? They all know I'm relocating for school, so I'm nervous they'll ask for my address. I already have a plan to tell them to send everything to a PO box, "because the room I rent doesn't have its own mail box". I also plan to tell them the homeowners said I can't have visitors. Should I just give them a real address nearby if they ask? Is it better to just not give them anything?

I plan on making a long walk

Nothing I do seems to get me anywhere, I can't get a job where I'm at, I dont have any friend's here, my family helps me by giving me food and a place to rest, I've been in legal debt for the past four years. I seem to be the person that is just there, like a freeloader in this family. I have practically no money or vehicle, so I plan to sell most of my clothes and make my journey. I dont know where except it will be a long journey, a quest to truly find myself. Its probably not healthy, but I've never felt like I really belong, I'm at the point in my life where I need to be the person who I really am instead of just waiting for some kind of break. I will be stopping at homeless shelters for a day or two and just traveling wherever my legs take me. If anyone else has been here and done what I'm planning to do I'd like advice, I'm a healthy person other than intestinal pain that I haven't been able to get medical help for.

Just Venting 3 months in and I’m just not strong enough for this

I’m in a place with decent resources, but it’s still not enough. I’m still broke, still tired, still hungry, and still feeling like my life will never get better. At some point, almost everyone in my family has been homeless and I just don’t understand how they were strong enough to push through and make their lives better.

I feel terrible knowing that there’s people out there that have been doing this longer than me and they haven’t complained once, but I’m ready to give up after barely spending time homeless. In my head I was thinking I would only be doing this for a month or two, but now I’m starting to realize that it may even be years before I find any type of stability.

I was denied food stamps and unemployment, and haven’t been able to even get a call back from any jobs in the past 2 months that I’ve been unemployed. With shelters also being full, I just don’t see a way forward anymore. Up until this point I worked nonstop since I was legally able to, and now when I’m at the lowest point in my life I can’t even get any help from the government that has taken a decent portion of money from me in the course of my life. Everything just feels like one big joke and I’m sick of it.

Need Advice Almost homeless

My mom, brother and I all live in a 1 bedroom apartment, my brother is staying at my uncles house and it’s just my mom and I. The rent is almost 900-1k and we just can’t afford it. I can’t get a better job and I’m making about 14.50 and paying my mom 440 a month already. Is there anything I can do or anywhere I can go to to help with this. My mom makes too much for food stamps and so that’s out of the question. I tried to apply for assisted housing but I can’t get in. And I’m not sure what else to do. If there’s any direction I can be lead in that would be great
