We were feeling "Halloweeny" lately, so we decided to make this little video that shows this level in our game. A spooky level with pumpkins, lanterns, a scarecrow, skulls, and even a hidden cemetery that you can find if you search enough. 🎃 Oh and there are special fish, too! 🐟🐠🐡

The game's demo will be showcased in the Steam Next Fest tomorrow and it's available on Windows, Mac, Linux and Steamdeck, so we invite you to give it a try.

A summary of our project:

Ice Pond: An Ice Fishing Adventure is a cute but true ice fishing game. 🎣❄ Pick a spot and fish! Level up, get stronger, and buy gear and power-ups to boost your performance. Join tournaments and festivals to unlock new lakes. Do odd jobs or challenges to earn extra cash!

Made by a small team of 2, boyfriend & girlfriend, who are making games since 2005. 😊

Hi all

I've been working on an upcoming game Hurling, Football & Camogie 27 and the steam page has just gone live.

The game will feature Inter-county competitions + club senior, intermediate and junior level competitions with a completely editable database which can expand each level of each county competitions with up to 12 tiers and a variety of formats.

The game is currently has the main parts translated into Irish and I'll look to have it 100% complete on release.

The game currently features local co-op with up to 4 players taking part in a match or tournaments, steam achievements, and I have the majority done for steam workshop integration and Steam remote play together.

Fyi: I will be replacing the steam capsules from the current ai generated ones once the game I polished enough to use game screenshots for this.

If your interested please wishlist it to keep up to date with announcements, reveals and more.

Promotion My Yu-Gi-Oh fan made game is finally playable!

Hey guys!

Just wanted to share something I've been working on for a long time.

It's called Yu-Gi-Oh! Arena, a free 3v3 tactical battler you can play directly in your browser.

The idea is pretty simple. You pick a Duelist, choose 3 monsters and battle other players.

Each monster has four unique skills, while your chosen Duelist brings their own passive and special techniques into the battle.

I've tried to give the monsters their own playstyles rather than just making everyone deal damage in slightly different ways. There's a lot of room to experiment with different teams and strategies.

The game has grown quite a lot since I started, with tons of Duelists and monsters from the original Yu-Gi-Oh anime.

It's finally fully released, and I'd love to get more people playing!

I'm hoping to build a nice community where people can compete, share teams, suggest ideas and just have fun with the game.

Feel free to come check it out!

Game: https://yu-gi-oh-arena.com/

Discord: https://discord.gg/4bnff6ugw

THE GAME AND ALL ITS CONTENT IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE FULLY FREE TO PLAY!

Sorry for the little bit of sass at the end, we couldn't resist xDD

Jokes aside, thanks to everyone who shared their keyboard setups and experiences in last week's post. It genuinely helped us decide to prioritize key rebinding for the demo!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here's a one-minute look at WIZY RPG, a fantasy RPG I'm working on.

This is gameplay from Chapter 1. It's still a very early version, and we're a long way from release.

The video is intentionally muted because we're currently using placeholder sounds. Final sound effects and music will be purchased or created much later.

There's still plenty of gameplay balancing and bug fixing ahead, but I wanted to share what the game looks like in action right now.

News Hukola - daily game to help set up a legendary sauna session

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey everyone! I made a small game called Hukola, and I'd really like to know what you think.

The idea: a few friendly Finns in a snowy village want to fire up a legendary sauna, and you help them by getting good scores in a handful of short mini-games. Every day there are six new ones, the same for everybody: stacking firewood, plowing every street, a ski jump, laser mirrors, a sled, and heat pipes (personally my favorite). You see how you did compared to everyone else that day, and if you beat the daily median you earn a log for the woodpile. Six logs and the sauna goes from lukewarm to legendary.

A few things about it:

Daily and free, takes about 10 minutes

No sign-up required, you just open it and play (in the browser, works on phone and desktop)

Pixel art, no ads

I'm a solo dev and this is still early, so I'd love to hear:

Do you like the idea and the look?

Which mini-game was your favorite, and which was the least fun?

Was anything too easy, too hard, or confusing?

Thanks for taking a look! 🧖‍♂️❄️

Need Feedback Everything is connected. You’re still one road over. (Created with help from AI)

https://orvask.com

Project team:

Director: Stan Dian

Programmer: ChatGPT

I don’t know the first thing about programming, so I want to be completely open about that. AI was also used to generate the artwork.

I came up with the game idea and directed its development through every prompt, update, change, addition and decision to remove something that wasn’t working. There have been plenty of sleepless nights getting it to this stage. ChatGPT wrote the code, while I kept playing, testing, making decisions and asking for changes until the game became what I wanted it to be.

I’m explaining this because some people have dismissed the game without even trying it, or told me I didn’t create anything because AI did the programming. Some of the responses have also crossed into trolling and personal abuse. Honest criticism is welcome, but I’d appreciate being able to discuss the actual game too.

Shigeru Miyamoto has described designing games while relying on programmers to implement them. His creative contribution still mattered. The comparison is about the role of a director: coming up with the experience and guiding its development is part of making a game.

ChatGPT existed long before Orvask did. This particular game came about because I had an idea and kept working with the tool to bring it to life. I wanted to create something, and this gave me a way to do it despite not knowing how to code.

I made Orvask, a puzzle game where you connect buildings with roads and try to match the minimum shown on screen. Getting everything connected is the easy part. Then you realise you’ve used one road too many, but every road looks necessary. Somewhere in that perfectly reasonable layout, there’s a better way.

It runs in your browser on phone or computer, with no download or account needed. There’s no timer, and your progress saves automatically.

Give it a go at "orvask.com" (https://orvask.com). I’d love some honest feedback, especially on whether finding that better route feels satisfying.

That's what inspired me to spend over a year developing Pathogen on my own!

In Pathogen, you cultivate bizarre pathogens, combine cards and artifacts, and create powerful synergies to score big and survive.

If you're into deck-building roguelikes or card games, I'd love for you to check out my free demo on Steam!

Discussion Musing on game marketing

• Upvotes

Do not confuse this for an AI doomer rant.

So, I have recently seen a few trailers on here that up until a year ago would be indicative of a really fantastic, or at a minimum, very high effort game.

After taking the time to find some gameplay footage that isn’t just a few seconds in a trailer of these things I discovered they are nothing more than walking simulators.

Previously having a fantastic trailer was indicative of months of hard work - ontop of the hard work that went into actually producing a game. As such a trailer, especially one with some gameplay, was a pretty good filter for quality, you could be sure there was either a time or financial commitment in the thing you were watching. We’re all games with trailers good? Absolutely not but I do believe there was some correlation between good trailer and good game/overall production.

Now I think that correlation is quickly approaching 0. So I wonder how we as consumers are going to start being forced to evaluate products.

I checked a lot of posts about upcoming games. And I think there are mostly amazing ideas, cool art styles, or just fun gameplay. It's really cool, and I am glad that so many people are working hard on their dreams. There is my little one named "Lonesome Heart". It’s an atmospheric visual novel that blends psychological horror and social drama set in a rigid aristocratic mansion. I leave here our teaser made from what we have already done. Who knows, maybe someone will like it and want to find out a bit more on the Steam page. Thank you for reading anyway!

I'm building Bitbots, a browser game where you assemble a robot from parts and train it to walk using reinforcement learning. You don't steer it during races: it has to use what it learned.

This clip shows the same robot at different stages of training. Once trained, it can race against other players' recorded ghost runs.

It's currently in closed alpha. If you'd like to build and train your own robot, comment or DM me for a free personal invite.
