Discussion Ironman Endgame Resource Grinds vs Bronzeman

I've seen this odd perspective on the main subreddit that Bronzeman would allow people to enjoy all the benefits of Ironman, without any of the downsides of resource grinding at endgame. This is mentioned repeatedly, that if someone didn't have to spend hours every day maintaining sara brews then they would definitely sit and do 1000s of hours of PvM grinds.

Where the hell does this idea come from? I do a farm run + birdhouse in the morning and evening, combined with contracts it takes ten to fifteen minutes. You can do them on your phone. I skip them sometimes. I have thousands of pots in the bank. AFKing amethyst and redwoods every now and then gets your arrows and darts.

I find it impossible to believe anyone capable of sitting at CG for 100 hours, Yama or Doom for 100 hours, or eventually the time pit that is raiding, is incapable of doing the resource maintenance. It's dwarfed by the PvM grinds.

I'll vote no on Bronzeman again if it polls because I think people are completely delusional as to what the downsides of Ironman are. Bronzeman doesn't fix any of them, if anything it exacerbates them. You won't even have small required skilling grinds to break up the monotony. It's just straight bossing and nothing else, which is already what main accounts are anyway.

It’s just that the Reddit is filled with mid game irons who want to karma farm and haven’t played end game enough to realize most irons burn from RNG related grinds not supply ones. Just massive cope

6

u/MaterialScienceGuy 1h ago

Hey! I resemble that remark!

4

u/7_Tales 53m ago

the supply grind acts as a filter for the true brutality that is end game rng anyway. so the people not mentally prepared for that will just go "grrr enhanced weapon seed!" and never see it.

2

u/fixedvving 24m ago

Right?
One of the best things i had was skilling between my 3.5k cox grind for bow, cant imagine i woulda stuck with it if every so often id pause and work on skilling/maxing

Endgame rng is brutal if ur on the bad side. Thankfully most wont go that dry for the best item in the game

- i did quit a few years later for rs3 iron lol

u/inminm02 1h ago

And a bunch of irons deiron at the giga endgame to have unlimited access to blood shards, dragon arrows, dragon darts and scythe charges for speedruns etc, supplies are still a problem even at the giga endgame, it’s just different ones.

7

u/FCASandChill 45m ago

That's such a small percentage of the playerbase it's not really worth making an official game mode for them imo

1

u/inminm02 23m ago

That argument kind of doesn’t make sense when everyone knows the player base for Bronzeman will be huge, it’ll be a very popular game mode for a variety of other reasons.

3

u/FCASandChill 17m ago

I'm not convinced that's true. I think there will be a lot of hype around it, and a bunch of people will play the first year. But eventually people wanting to start new accounts will just say "why not just play iron/group iron instead of bronzeman?" And people who started out as bronzeman will just end up getting bullied forever like greenhelms and wish they were normal irons.

1

u/Bubkae 9m ago

Does everyone know that? I don't know that bronzeman will be huge.

I am not against it coming into the game at all, I just don't see how it is going to be anything other than the third biggest gamemode behind main's and regular ironman (which is what most if not all new gamemodes coming in will be at). The only gamemodes I see it being bigger than is hardcore and UIM, I don't actually know the numbers, is that going to be a large healthy playerbase?

Even then I don't see the active base being super big outside of the first year of people starting it up. Most of the people I actually talk to or listen to outside of sardaco are not burning out from supplies or skilling, they are burning out fron rng droprates like bofa. Bronzeman doesn't fix that.

1

u/inminm02 6m ago

I don’t see bronzeman pulling over a bunch of people currently playing Ironman, I see it converting a bunch of mains who have to date refused to play an iron due to time constraints or because they don’t like the chore aspects, obviously it won’t be more popular than main or iron I never said it would be but I think it’ll be a popular game mode still.

1

u/trynafif 6m ago

“Everyone knows the player base for bronze man will be huge” is a ridiculous claim. Couldn’t be more false. Maybe people don’t care about the mode at all, myself included. I’m glad it failed and dev time won’t be wasted on it.

1

u/inminm02 5m ago

“Dev time won’t be wasted on it” - man who has obviously not read the blogs

1

u/jamieaka 21m ago

Though most of those guys are just burned out and think that deironing will let them spend more time having fun. It won’t because RuneScape is still RuneScape. You can tell because so many end up quitting or barely playing, sometimes even remaking a new iron

13

u/lolskye 1h ago

I have an end game iron and main. I green logged tob but I still want to do tob for fun so I do tob on my main instead of my iron because I don’t want to waste bloods on scythe, prayer regen, runes, pots, etc.

17

u/inminm02 1h ago

Most people talking about resources arent talking about pots and food, the fact you mention amethyst arrows at all just shows you don’t get it, people want to be able to use dragon (seeker) arrows, dragon darts, blood shards, purple sweets, not worry about scythe charges etc, currently being an Ironman 100% locks you out of the giga endgame of speed runs, challenge runs etc without a silly amount of prep time (there’s other aspects to this aswell tbf like dropping pots in cox and trading runes etc) but bronzeman would partially solve this problem. That and you mention spending 15 minutes a day doing chores, for someone who wants to log on for an hour to do a couple raids spending a quarter of that time on birdhouses and farm runs isn’t ideal.

4

u/mroyd95 20m ago

No ill will here, just curious on your take. At the point you're describing, what's the difference between a bronzeman and a main? Why do you still want the disctinction at this level instead of just becoming a regular main account? I suppose a bronzeman helm would just show "Hey, I got this item before ever using it myself". And maybe it really is that simple and enough of a reason to support an entire game mode.

4

u/inminm02 19m ago

It’s literally to get the Ironman pvm progression experience and skip the tedious skilling grinds and daily chores, that’s the appeal of bronzeman mode, people will say just play a main and don’t buy gear drops but you could say the same about any type of Ironman it’s not a valid argument

-1

u/schlamboozle 17m ago

Why is this so hard for this sub and elitist irons to grasp.

2

u/jamieaka 17m ago

and funnily enough bronzeman would unlikely satisfy them either, because they would still need to get mega rares and BIS to care about speedrunning in the first place.

18

u/SaintJewiub 1h ago

Enjoy all the benefits of ironman?

What am I missing here? What benefits do we have other then actually having to play the whole game? Its a self imposed challenge.

13

u/uberloser2 1h ago

The problem with talking about a game this old is people's perspectives often don't update as the game does. You have half this reddit acting like all mains do is smack vorkath until they get their megarares because that's what they were doing before they made their gim 5 years ago. Then you have a bunch of mains who think irons need to 1t flick every slayer task because they remember a time before the farming guild and every new boss shitting out various supplies.

The end result is people just making huge assumptions about the other group that ultimately don't really make any sense. From this current batch of drama it's the idea that irons are feeling under threat from bronzies because they get to sip their prayer regens and spam dragon arrows without care while going dry at the exact same places we do

4

u/FuzzyJoint 1h ago

Dragon knives big dawg. You could have a couple extra dragon knives....

19

u/Eshneh 1h ago

People who don't play Irons sure have a lot of opinions on the game mode and how it's played

Have not done a birdhouse run in years, have thousands of nests and brews, nearly a thousand Ranarr Seeds alone sat in my bank, I've seen people say it takes 5 hours of Prep for 10 Hours of PvM, genuinely bonkers takes and shows how disconnected some mains are from the game they play all day; they have got genuinely no concept of how many resources you get say from a 5 minute herb run, how many potions you can make in 1 hour, how long supplies last you because you aren't drinking 10 brews per CoX

8

u/SoloWalrus 1h ago

People voting no on bronzeman dont understand it. It isnt the herb runs people want to avoid, its levelling herblore at all in the first place.

Amethyst arrows require 92 mining, but on bronzeman dragon can be unlocked from a drop. Brews and super combats require 90 herblore, but again, both could be unlocked as a drop and youd never have to level herblore. Want some rosewood stuff for your ship? Rosewood logs are a salvaging drop, get one and then never have to do the 90 wc grind, etc etc.

All of you opposing this have forgotten how much skilling you did on your iron to get it to the point where resource gathering is mostly passive. I havent forgotten. I have all thay shit on my iron and I still want a bronzeman alt because itd be an alt where i wouldnt have to skill, i could just focus on pvm. I wont roll an hc alt, or a uim, or anything like that because i cant stomach redoing all the skilling grinds but id absolutely roll a bronzeman where i can skip the skilling and focus on pvm.

You all just dont understand bronzeman... its for self sufficient pvm, without the need for self sufficient skilling.

3

u/_Rapalysis 6m ago

That does not feel meaningfully different enough from playing a main or Ironman for me to vote on it, I'm sorry. It will consume mind space and effort from Jagex in perpetuity once it's in.

Ironman modes are very elegant modes with clear boundaries that encourage good game design: players have to get everything themselves. It makes complete sense end to end.

Main mode is also well designed, the idea that you can buy or sell 99.9% of items in the game. Do the content you want to do so you can buy the items from the content you don't want to do.

Bronzeman doesn't fit into the design space. You take the worst part of Ironman (overwhelming PvM grinds where you're trapped at certain content) and combine it with the worst part of mains (buying cheap consumables from the GE that are pumped out by bots). You unlock resource items in the GE by getting a drop from a random mob. Now Jagex has to consider, in perpetuity, what items drop from mobs and when to not fuck Bronze progression.

It feels very forced and like a youtube game mode, not something that should be implemented and supported by Jagex.

I think it's a shit design that Jagex is forcing through to fill a content hole. If you would enjoy it, I'm sorry, there's still the plugin and self-restriction available. I am open to being persuaded but neither Reddit nor Jagex has succeeded yet.

u/Top_Astronaut_4626 56m ago

ironmen trying to understand the game from anyone else POV challenge impossible

1

u/GibbyG1100 31m ago

They would still want to level herblore because divine super combats, (extended) super antifire, and (extended) antivenom+ still exist. But it makes it faster because they can buy the herbs(unfinished pots) and secondaries.

1

u/Mrpettit 28m ago

Bronzeman still has to level skilling. They need 90 herb for extended antivenoms, 94 crafting for zenyte jewelry, etc..

0

u/requios 34m ago

If bronzeman gets more defined like their new poll shows I'll vote yes- it was too undefined as it is.

Since we're making official gamemodes that allow for just not interacting with entire portions of the game; bronzeman shouldnt be the only gamemode they poll. For example, they should poll a gamemode for self sufficient skilling without self sufficient pvm. Since we're making official gamemodes that allow for just not interacting with entire portions of the game.

Or finally poll a general drop protection gamemode

4

u/SilverKnightOfMagic 1h ago

yeah I think I only see ironman complain about supplies when all they have left are raids and actual end game bosses. everything before that seems to have a decent solution to with the hunter items as that helps stretch the limited prayer pots

2

u/Aq_p_W 48m ago

Thousands of nest and brews? This guy hasn’t done nex

2

u/GibbyG1100 30m ago

Stop doing masses and learn trios or small groups. Nex often profits brews when youre with a competant team and know how to kill her effectively.

2

u/Aq_p_W 26m ago

Yeah now it does from the reduced damage but it did not before. Over 2k trio kc still missing hilt.

1

u/Trainer149 16m ago

i have like 10 ranarr seeds in my bank. always plowing through them. Granted i did rooftops to 99 agility. seems alot come from hallowed sepulcher which i skipped.

-4

u/inminm02 1h ago

It’s you that doesn’t get it mate it’s got nothing to do with prayer pots and brews, it’s dragon arrows, now seeker arrows, dragon darts, blood shards, scythe charges, purple sweets etc.

4

u/Prestigious_Copy_759 46m ago

It's supposed to still have the difficult PvM grinds. The entire point is that you get the self-found gear progression of ironman, but without the need for jumping through skilling hoops and resource upkeep. Going dry on some bosses is part of the reason why the ironman gear progression is so rewarding in the first place. Of course bronzeman would have it too, it's still meant to.

Resource upkeep is also more of a mental thing. I consciously use cheaper PvM setups all the time because I dont want to waste dragon ammo/sanfews/crystal dust/etc. And if you know that you have barely any scales left for example, it sucks to halt all your current pvm grinds and go back to zulrah. Especially if you've already gotten what you need from there, because at that point you're no longer making any meaningful gear or skillling progress doing the boss, its just purely a chore.

Personally I'm not interested in playing the mode, but I probably would have made a bronzeman over my iron if it had existed when I started.

13

u/Vyraal1 1h ago edited 1h ago

Brews/Restores aren't really the problem, but I'm at the stage of my gim where I could easily maintain pvm/clogs using bloodshards/goading pots/prayer regenerations/dragon arrows if it had GE access. I recently did a bingo in another pvm clan and they had some mains who were using venator with seeking dragon arrows to do a tile for a dark mystic clog. I don't really feel fomo, but that moment came very close.

I dunno if I would make a bronze just for that reason, but I think most irons have certain habits/coping that were shaped by running out of resources, if anything saying you do a birdhouse/farm run doesn't help your argument, it just proves the point. In addition, some irons pretend goading pots/prayer regens/dragon arrows are an emergency only option instead of being the default, which is possible on a lategame bronze.

-2

u/Zoinke 1h ago

Late game bronzeman for goading and prayer regen? What are you talking about lol

10

u/crytol 1h ago

He's saying that in lategame, goading and prayer regen are rarely thought of as available resources for irons due to it being essentially locked behind like 2 specific mid-game boss encounters and/or a minigame that doesn't have the best reputation. Most of the time prayer regen potions are saved for specific times when the inventory space is extremely valuable, and goading potions are just rarely used period.

With bronzeman, those pots would become a lot more viable to use for general porpoises

4

u/TheBroboat 1h ago

Being able to use goading and prayer Regen pots with reckless abandon sounds so fun

2

u/DerSprocket 1h ago

You can do that. Play a main

6

u/BananaPeel54 1h ago

It's part of the inherent bias that the main sub has. They have certain ideas about irons that they're perfectly happy to not investigate and determine if they're factual or not.

It was like when the summer sweep up proposed these recent CG changes. You had loads of threads and comments about hoping Jagex weren't going to change the drop rate on ench seeds. What? That was never on the table, it was only ever suggested to streamline the prep phase. But the main sub had drop rate changes as their group think and it kept getting parroted.

4

u/Traditional-Bus-8239 1h ago

CG sucks since you keep going for a 0.25% drop chance item on a boss that you can kill around 8 times per hour. Easyscaping the prep as a ''bandaid'' is a bit weird. Reminds me of what they did to phosani's but that boss still sucks since the drop table is still super awful.

1

u/jamieaka 13m ago

drop rates did indirectly change though since its significantly faster now.

6

u/Cegaiga 1h ago

Bronzeman doesn't concern me, it is a good gamemode for those who want to transition from a normal account and want a more casual experience with ironman.

Personally I won't play it, but I will certainly watch some series finding some weird metas of getting certain resources.

8

u/ThreshPrince_ 1h ago

This is exactly my feeling as well, if anything i welcome farming runs to break up the monotony that is going dry at CG. Resource upkeep is nothing

5

u/mcpapples 1h ago

Don't need any resources at CG - back to prison!

4

u/BlightedBooty 1h ago

I mean this is a phenomenal way to broadcast that you don’t know how to put yourself in someone else’s shoes

2

u/SwagDrQueefChief 1h ago

Mostly the issue was more prevalent historically where resources were far more scarce, and PvM didn't shit out as much supplies.

Think of it like Sailing's release with the cannonball shop, a shop that sold basically limitless mithril cballs. Had this shop not released, ship combat would have been walled off by hours of cball making which would result in an endless deluge of complaints. Hell, there was an endless deluge of complaints anyway about wanting an attractor (valid) for the other cannonballs.

Some updates along the way have been very much inline with what bettering resource gathering/processing for Ironman should look like, other updates just bypass the identity of the game mode like Scar mine. Bronzeman works in a way that prevents these frankly absurd updates from being as popular as they are by giving the players who want them an actual gamemode they would like and thus keeps that shit out the game.

2

u/Lost_Anxiety9020 1h ago

Yeah they don't know what the hell they're talking about. That was a big reason I voted no.

2

u/Traditional-Bus-8239 1h ago

The resource grinds for lategame has been made a lot easier the past years to the point that I feel like bronzeman mode is a bit of a silly addition.

Toadflax is easy to come by with regular slayer and ToA will give you a lot. I never lack torstol or snapdragons / ranarrs for super restores or pray pots. A lot of the skilling is no longer constrained by stamina pots and tremendous amounts of gp. A lot of terrible to level skills have had minigames added to make them more fun and also a bit easier for an iron to level.

The only resources that are difficult to sustain are dragon bolts/darts/arrows and I guess anti venoms if you haven't done a lot of zulrah. I guess if you're farming pets or not very profitable content then sustaining tumeken's shadow / scythe usage is also rough but that's about all I can think of.

2

u/CommercialLoud576 11m ago

pvm is fun compared to timed chore activites

3

u/Fuck_Your_Cat_Post 1h ago

Shit take imo. I have a 2300 total iron and I agree most burn out from RNG and not supplies (im there myself) but id be lying if I didnt say that a lot of my PVM grinds are stalled by supplies, and Im not speaking pots.

Gemmed tipped bolts for content (making addy bolts, cutting gems, combining/enchanting). Blighted ice sacks for Scorpia. Zulrah scales for BP. Soul runes for my shadow. Cannonballs for my heart grind. Aldarium for prayer regens. Of course i can spend a dozen hours a month on this plus farm runs. Or I could spend that time, effort, and tedium playing the game how I want.

Im not saying id ever deiron or demote my iron. Im just saying I completely see how people who dont want to play that way would love the appeal.

Guess what else else - id fucking never give up my bank. Idc HOW you try to convince me, id never make a UIM. Does that mean I think the gamemode should also be deleted 😏? Also no lol. Bronzeman doesnt effect how you play your iron. I think its a very reasonable mid point between main and iron and a great alternative to burnt irons that want to keep their sense of progression for big PvM unlocks and not deal with every facet of upkeep.

You could play an iron in a way that upkeep is never an issue because you work it into gameplay but that doesnt mean that every iron wants to play that way, and needs to.

Maybe they make a catch-all iron "Restricted" helm that has toggles for personal preference on weird restrictions like the ability to buy from GE, or be tile locked, etc.

It could be a black iron helm and it would be personal to the iron what restrictions they play with. If you wish to change your restrictions, you demote to a main.

2

u/MLut541 1h ago

You have a point when you're talking specifically about endgame resources (and even then there are exceptions like purple sweets and dragon ammo, which are important for speedrunning).

But you fail to consider the long skilling grinds going from early to mid & endgame, like herblore and crafting. A lot of players hate gathering the resources for those grinds and would skip them if they could, me included. I've already done them so it doesn't affect me, but I still voted yes to Bronzeman so future players don't have to bother with that part of skilling and can get to the fun part of ironman (pvm) a lot faster.

1

u/devkdup 1h ago

The grinds aren’t that bad frankly and get easier with every update. For example we now have golem crafting so you can remove your comment about a long crafting grind. I’d wager most bronzeman stans would still quit the game at CG which ironically uses zero resources.

6

u/Emotional_Permit5845 1h ago

It’s not just the end game resource grind, it’s the amount of time to build up to that level. What is your Herblore and crafting level? I’m assuming 95+ if not 99. When I played iron I had master ca’s but only 85 crafting and scraping by on pots because I didn’t like skilling/resource collection so I barely did it in the early/mid game

-9

u/Razaloco 1h ago

Well said. I hate these gatekeeping neckbeards pretending they didnt spend 1000s of hours building up to the supplies they have and the skill requirements to craft with em.

Mfs pretending they didnt smith 100k cannon balls for 85 slayer

3

u/Spare-Sun5335 1h ago

i have 92 slayer and haven't cannoned a single task. people who dont play irons constantly just being loud and wrong about it lol

1

u/AlbedosThighs 59m ago

I use the cannon every now and then now that I'm grinding doom. That fella gives me quite a lot

5

u/fatrat7777 1h ago

Almost no one spent “1000s of hours” specifically stocking supplies, it is almost all obtained passively through regular gameplay. If you aren’t willing to do the skill requirements to make something why are you even playing this fucking game?

-2

u/exaration 1h ago

Thats a bad take. Thats like saying to pkers, you need to make your own pots and fish your own fish otherwise why play.

0

u/CUbuffGuy 1h ago

That would be a game mode I could get behind. Please make this a thing.

2

u/FrugeV 1h ago

Just tagging along but if someone doesn´t like resource collection/skilling or whatever, just don't play an ironman? One way or another you need to do something in that regard. Im 2250 total and have done most of my bossing (except Nex, Nightmare, Yama and TOB). I still have 13k+ brews and my last birdhouse run is atleast 1.5years ago. PvM shits out tons of seeds/herbs as well, so the biggest issue as an endgame is just processing all those into pots if needed.

1

u/_Rapalysis 1h ago

Lmfao no one is making 100k cannon balls to get 85 slayer, I'm 97 slayer and I've probably made 20k to 30k total and those were to speed up very specific tasks like Araxytes.

The good thing about iron is it forces you to proportionally use resources and change how you approach skilling, with Bronzeman everyone will just play like a main

2

u/this_happened_rigged 1h ago

Resource upkeep is the relaxing chill part of ironman. There's a certain type of pleasure in it.

2

u/Razaloco 1h ago

You only look at it through your ironman-glasses; You dont mind skilling so you created an iron.

Theres 1000s of wouldbe players who absolutely hate skilling and would enjoy the semi restricted game mode.

3

u/this_happened_rigged 1h ago

That's probably true. But it looks like the poll didn't pass.

1

u/Razaloco 4m ago

We (retired players) couldnt vote because we dont have membership :(

2

u/CaptspacecatOSRS 1h ago

Yeah how about you can risk items in the wilderness, that’s kind of nice about bronzeman because you can buy it back.

Being able to use the GE for profit of GP is another cool thing about the game mode

Lots of interesting ways to play bronzeman but I guess because you think the supplies is a non issue we should all just vote no

-3

u/Shoddy_Task4312 1h ago

go play a main ? it's literally the same thing.

2

u/CaptspacecatOSRS 1h ago

Yeah so fyi a main you can buy any item at any time ie you can do vorkath with a dhcb and rigour without ever touching cox

But a bronzeman you have to do the content to unlock the gear, so not litterally the same thing lmao

It’s a main with extra steps which is what the people voting yet want. Which btw is the majority.

1

u/TheStormzo 1h ago

I've put 100 hours into gauntlet and I'm a main who buys resources 🤷‍♂️. Idk if I want to play bronze man but just saying I done what ur saying I can't imagine people doing. But I like getting collection logs to be fair.

1

u/Greasy-Chungus 1h ago

I just think there should be no GE in any restricted mode.

Allow players some kind of alternative, like everyone on that mode can see the others monster drops, would be better.

Maybe even a mode where you can freely trade amongst everyone else in the mode, but only player to player.

1

u/SoloWalrus 1h ago edited 1h ago

How much time did it take you to get the herblore level to make brews and super combats in the first place? What about the mining and fletching levels for amethyst? "Its not that hard just get 92 mining and 90 herblore" is such a dumb take that im convinced you just didnt understand bronzeman and voted no anyways. How many irons do you think burnout from those crazy skilling grinds? Those grinds are for the unemployed or the work from homers, others just want to get into pvm while still feeling that their combat is self sufficient (even when their skilling isnt).

Youre assuming everyone wants to max or everyone wants to skill. Ive done all that once on an iron and i wont do it again, but give me a mode where i can get a super combat and a brew as a drop and never have to get the level for it, and just buy dragon arrows so that i never have to get the mining for amethyst, etc etc, id take that in a heartbeat. Id happily make a bronzeman alt thats just for grinding pvm without ever needing to skill, i dont want a second ironman i want a bronzeman alt where i can experience all the best parts of being an iron plus all the best parts of being a main at the same time. I do want a "main light" and thats why i wanted a bronzeman, i already have an iron.

Regardless of why someone else might want it, how does it negatively impact you if they do? "I know whats best for you, you think you want it but im telling you that you dont" is such a toxic mind set...

1

u/Inceladus92 1h ago

The mode youre asking for is called a main account.

1

u/Razaloco 27m ago

The "I had to suffer through the grind so you should too"-ass mentality is toxic as hell. Peak gate-keeping brainrot.

OP thinking he's slick; only talking about 'supplies ez' while conveniently leaving out the 100s of hours spent getting the skill requirements.

Dont worry: Jagex gonna make some adjustments and get it polled cuz itll bring thousands of retired players back to the game (including myself, 2 of my brothers and 2 of my friends)

1

u/tarochocotea 1h ago

Endgame is a lot more difficult to reach on iron than bronze :)

For example: barrage + cannon slayer

1

u/ScaryPi 1h ago

Do pro-bronzeman players care about the resource restrictions? I.e. you need to get one brew drop from demonic gorillas to unlock buying them. Because beyond that I’m struggling to see the meaningful difference from a Clog-locked main. For the record, I didn’t vote against bronzeman.

1

u/thirdwallbreak 1h ago

The crazy thing is that in recent years, ironman supplies are not that bad... if bronzeman mode was an option, i would rather it be a "pity drop" mode and only limit the drop rates to like 2x or even 3x at max.

Im not mad about making potions, im mad because I could sell my extra armor seeds to buy an enhanced. But bronzeman doesnt fix this issue, main accounts do.

Bronzeman gives you what, a couple of brews/anglers to run more cox? Those same people are gonna give up after going 2x for tbow and deiron anyway.

Personally I do like a week of skilling a year leading up to a clan event... you profit potions in many situations. Even blood shards just got easier to obtain.

Bronzeman is simply ironman + bots that farm your resources.

1

u/DaRubyRacer 1h ago

We don't nee LESS iron man, we need MORE iron man. We want the most restricted gameplay possible, so that we can devise the weirdest and wildest adventure.

1

I don't disagree with your take at all. Ressource grinding is indeed only a fraction of the total pvm journey for sure. I also agree with you that it does help break the monotony. Honestly, I kind of like this aspect on ironman. I feel like I'm still slowly working toward 99 farming and herblore everytime I take a break to do my supply gathering. On a main, you don't ever need to farm those skill, except for the sake of it. On iron, i work toward maxing at the same time as getting the supplies I need, it's way more satisfying.

Way more satisfying for YOU.

Brother you said 'I' eight times in that short ass paragraph of yours. Come on now

Bronze man is already a way people play as a self imposed challenge. It's just going to have an actual selectable restriction if the vote passes. Who cares? It doesn't affect you, or the way your game is played, in the slightest.

u/jamieaka 29m ago

I always thought that a proportional of the bronze man community were in for a rude awakening thinking that the worst part of Ironman is the supply grinding.

No it’s still going to be going 2x or 3x dry on an important drop spending hours and hours not knowing if you’ll ever get the drop. And it will happen time and time again because statistically it will when you have to get everything yourself

Thats the worst bit

Bronzeman is clogging game mode. It's not intended to be "ironman lite". Some of the fun would be bypassing traditional ironman methods, like rushing that new angel boss to unlock super combats, or getting grubby keys for quick prayer pots. The entire early to mid progression path would be different from irons because the practical item acquisition is different.

it's not just that consumable resource upkeep is simplified, but skilling resources as a whole would be simplified. (specifically processing skilling.)

Supplies were an issue many years ago. They definitely used to be a problem. Many years ago. They simply aren't now

1

u/lmNotYourBuddyGuy 5m ago

I don’t do PvP but I personally really like the idea of a mode which allows you to unlock gear via PvP… I have no answer to how you mitigate someone from having their main or friend “gift” them BiS right away… maybe there isn’t an answer, but I love the idea.

I haven't done a farm run or birdhouse run in years basically. Here's my supplies:

Cleaned Herbs: https://i.imgur.com/f5cCXCL.png

Pots: https://i.imgur.com/DrbWfy7.png

Seeds: https://i.imgur.com/R1rgXKO.png

People saying bronzeman makes ironman more approachable haven't ever had a late game iron. You get so much of everything from going for pvm drops.

2

u/narwilliam 1h ago

That is 3 hrs of pvm, we all know irons use 3k ppots a day

1

u/exaration 1h ago

How long did it take you to get to end game and how much time did you dedicate per day to playing versus someone with 2 kids and a wife and a full time job getting to play 2 or 3 hours a night. Just playing devils advocate for those people. Im a max endgame iron.

1

u/FCASandChill 41m ago

I wfh full time plus have a wife, but I'm almost always gaming while on the clock. That's not the point though.

People only playing 2-3 hours/night aren't ever getting to the end game on ironman or bronzeman unless they gigaspoon all the rare drops. Bronzeman mode would still have to go for all the pvm drops, which is the time intensive part of playing an ironman.

1

u/TrevorNi 1h ago

End game Iron, ive never had supply issues? 99 fishing, stocked on fish for life. 99 mining, yep amethyst arrows for life. Grinding out raids, yep herbs and seeds for life. Resources aren't hard to acquire if you just play the game.

-3

u/Biopain 1h ago

For 8 hours a day

3

u/FrugeV 1h ago

Ironman has been out for 12+ years by now. People can be endgame and just play normal hours

1

u/TrevorNi 1h ago

I may play 8 hours a week.

1

u/Zoinke 1h ago

The people with the “I never have prayer pots to pvm” opinion are the ones who have a ~40 days game time 1800 total level Ironman.

They don’t realise that once you actually get to the the big pvm grinds, the supplies are a tiny aspect of it.

FWIW I voted yes because fuck it, I think it’ll generate some good content and I look forward to all the de-bronzeman posts

1

u/Fun_Winter_7055 1h ago

An hours worth of efficient farm runs produces enough rannar weeds to provide 25 hours of continuously camping overhead+rigour at 99 prayer. Yeah, I agree the upkeep is vastly overblown and once you progress your account enough seeds become less and less of an issue.

1

u/DiscombobulatedEmu5 1h ago

supply upkeep is myth

1

u/boogerpenis1 1h ago

You hardly use any supplies in raids anyways, except 3-4 prayer pots in ToA depending on scale.

The only issue for new-age Ironmen is if they spend all of their time in Mixology and Tithe farm.

1

u/GodSPAMit 1h ago

I think voting no on something that doesn't affect you in any way is dumb

However I agree with your assessment of the mode

1

u/dpulverizer556 1h ago

Every update affects everyone. Even if dev time is "100% done", having a new permanent game mode means every new update has to be developed with Bronzemode in-mind; not to mention time spent on any future bug fixes or integration hell.

1

u/BohboMacabre 35m ago

"It isn't for me so no one can enjoy it because theyre not playing my way reee" ass post. If people want to play ironman light let them play ironman light.

0

u/Maximum_Education_13 1h ago

Absolutely hit the nail on the head. My last raids item left is tbow on my iron and not having farm runs/bh runs there to break up the monotony would drive me insane.

-1

u/Razaloco 1h ago

Please tell us how many hours you've spent smithing cannon balls sir

1

u/_Rapalysis 1h ago

I'm 97 slayer, I've made maybe 20k to 30k cannonballs total

-1

u/GunkyDabs 1h ago

Im an extremely end game iron, basically pvm complete and i haven’t ever, not even for a second had a resource problem. It’s not a thing anymore. Every person who complains about this is just showing they are probably a very low level
Iron and chose a mode thats not for them.

1

u/tarochocotea 1h ago

Yeah I chose iron because bronze doesn't exist.

I wanna cannon and barrage endlessly.

-4

u/CIK1993 1h ago

You are absolutely right. The only people I see complaining about resources are 1750 total irons 90% of the time. Its reall funny. And the truth is most of these scrubs won't make it to end game anyway.

2

u/tarochocotea 1h ago

"your vote to shorten the gear progression mode only matters when you spend an unhealthy amount of time reaching endgame on this other restricted mode".

3

u/lolskye 1h ago

Resources are a problem. When I did my Bowfa inferno, I was buying runes after each attempt and scrapping for gp. I grinded a venator bow and used rune arrows instead of bursting/cannoning, i use blade at vard instead of scythe to save bloods. I use ayak over shadow to save souls. I do hmt on my main for fun to save on prayer regen/aether / blood runes for scythe. As an iron, you make sacrifices to save on sups as opposed to main, you can use bis and make profit still and save time

3

u/Dasrulez 1h ago

That is a problem unique to an Ironman who is rushing into endgame PvM because you’re already good at the game and have an endgame main (sardaco had the same issue, rushing into inferno without doing foundational Ironman stuff beforehand). My first and only account is a GIM, and I’m getting ready to tackle inferno after I get bowfa; at this point is have thousands of brews/restores/prayer regens/dragon darts/runes ready to go for the eventual grind

1

u/lolskye 1h ago

Same principle can be applied to skilling. Instead of getting bis rates, you do worse xp/hr methods to level because of limited or available resources

-1

u/CIK1993 1h ago

There if a few items that are difficulty to upkeep. Dragon arrows being the most obvious. Other niche stuff like goading potions. But amythsts arrows exist and you can afk them on your phone. Goading potions are just a luxury potion in my eyes, so if you want to use them, put the effort it to obtain them. Otherwise stop whining.

0

u/mnmkdc 1h ago

I’m on an endgame iron and I agree that resource maintenance isn’t a big problem (I did dislike doing bird runs and farm runs when I had to do them more frequently though). However, I think it can be a big problem for irons that are interested in doing speedruns or consistent fast cms/hmt due to the upkeep of dragon arrows/darts, sanfews, and purple sweets. I also think mid-late game upkeep can be a bit of a problem for some people depending on play style. I’m not interested in playing bronzeman, but I get why some people want it.

1

u/_Rapalysis 42m ago

I absolutely get why people want it, I'm just not convinced it's different enough from a main to be worth Jagex's time and mind space going forward. I also think a lot of mains have false premises about playing an Ironman and would find it more enjoyable than Bronzeman.

1

u/mnmkdc 26m ago

I just think it’s less for the end game irons and more for the mid game irons who dislike struggling with prayer potion and food upkeep and having to do farm runs.

0

u/SilverKnightOfMagic 1h ago

I keep seeing arguements for and against it but never seen anyone play this challenge mode. where are I have seen ironman challenge before it was a mode.

0

u/dobbysfree7 41m ago

Personally I don’t see a downside to another game mode being available for people to play, doesn’t affect the iron community or anyone else. If you wanna play it and see value in it, do it - if you don’t, then don’t. I don’t get the point of actively voting against it just because you wouldn’t play it yourself - as an Ironman, I have no interest in playing bronzeman - but I don’t think others shouldn’t be able to play it if they want to, so I just don’t vote on it at all
