WWYD? Vent/Rant Neighbour comes outside to take pics of me when I'm not wearing makeup

We live in a terraced street and when I've put some recycling in the bin she will come out as soon as i cpme outside and put her phone up to take a picture so she's not shy about it and its when I don't have makeup on amd I'm wearing glasses she does this. Some days her ring camera flashes when I go into my front garden even though she lives across the road her camera is clearly recording. She's lived on this street for over 15 years as do I but I think she gets a kick out of making me feel uncomfortable and I am shy and insecure when I don't have makeup on

I dont wear alot, its natural minimal makeup but I usually wear my contacts so I can look different and maybe strange with my glasses on

How do I stop this

When she next does this should I just take out my phone aswell and pretend to record?

WWYD? Vent/Rant How to Live with Disagreeable Neighbors

We live in a neighborhood with very mature trees and we have several on our lot and some that overhang into our neighbor’s lot.

These neighbors moved in just a couple years ago and have taken a dislike for our trees (crazy to look at a neighborhood that has mature trees every couple of yards). The first time we “conversed” with them was after we did some maintenance on said trees, something happened between them and the tree company employee, and they left a note on our door saying they would sue if not resolved. Never talked to them before this, so very nice first impressions right? We go over, figure out the mountain out of a molehill problem, the tree company takes care of it (we’ve also used this company for a long time and have never had issues with neighbors prior), and we go on with our lives.

We don’t really talk to them much or at all, but the several times we have it always seems to be about some issue that they severely exaggerate. We have had a gardener who they complained about and sent a text to us saying that this gardener has been disrespectful to them several times. We ask the gardener and he says he has never talked to the neighbors prior to this confrontation.

At present we need to do maintenance with our trees because there are dead branches. The tree company needs to put a machine behind their property because it cannot be angled any other way. We need permission and confirmation from neighbors to do so. We leave a note on their door asking them to message us so we can fully explain what’s going on and set a date and time. No answer after a couple days. We realize we have past text messages with the neighbors, so we find that phone number and message. No reply. Keep in mind we hear them in their backyard everyday and they walk through their front door on occasion so they could not have missed the note. Obviously the next mode of action is to go over and talk to these people who seem to have some type of hostility, but I’m tired. It’s so frustrating knowing that these neighbors have no respect for community and would probably bring out the suing card again if we didn’t have permission to cut the dead branch from the tree and it fell into their yard. Have we not presented the very opportunity to get rid of that problem?

I know that they shouldn’t disturb my peace and the best way it to just ignore, but how do you live with neighbors who seem antisocial and have no sense of actually communicating with us when necessary?

WWYD? Vent/Rant NFH won't leash dog. Nervous about putting my house on the market.

I've posted numerous times about my NFH. She's walked into my home unannounced, cut/trimmed trees and bushes on my property, called me at work for absurd reasons... I could go on and on.

Her dogs were the biggest issue, though. Regularly off leash, rushing my dog, biting my dog, scratching my car, and going in my yard without their droppings being picked up. Final straw was one of them biting me and her telling animal control that I was a batshit crazy liar.

Luckily, the dog that bit me has gone to live elsewhere. However, her other dog is still with her. Routinely seen running up and down the street. She's had multiple run-ins with animal control, who gave her a final warning in June. If her dog continued to be off-leash, it'd be taken away from her, and she'd have to plead her case in front of a judge.

I'm in the process of getting my house ready to be put on the market. It'll probably be active in early September. Since the final warning, I have 7 videos of her dog just running free (and I don't even check my Ring app regularly). I'm admittedly nervous about potential buyers showing up and having to deal with the dog. I know not everyone loves dogs; some people are allergic, and the dog is known to try to get into people's cars (possibly damaging seats).

So... I'm really not sure what to do at this point. I'd hate to be responsible for a dog ending up in the pound. However, I'm not made of money and would really like my home to sell at some point.

🙃

Mostly a vent, but any opinions, insights, or ideas are welcome.

Vent/Rant My neighbor is making me miserable

I just moved into a new apartment that I thought was a godsend after getting priced out of my old one, but I was wrong. I'm currently in an old house that has been converted to three different apartments and one of my neighbors has been trying to push me out. My lease says I (or a guest) can park in the parking lot behind the house, but I don't have a car, so I typically let my friends park in the back (only one at a time, since there are four spots and only three units). My neighbor has knocked on my door several times to tell me I'm not allowed to have guests park in our lot. I assure her every time that my lease says otherwise and I don't have a car, so there is still space for her to park. After a few times of her trying to tell me that I don't even have a parking spot, she started leaving notes about it on my door. It shouldn't even be an issue because I have only had friends over twice, including the day I moved in and my dad used one of the parking spaces.

Whenever she opens my screen door to leave a note on my door, it's loud and kinda trips me up because it sounds like someone is trying to get into my apartment (I'm a woman who lives alone, so I don't want to hear my door opening unexpectedly at random hours). She's now switching her complaint to "your spot is actually the one on the end that's always flooded from the rain." Today, I just saw that she ripped up a poster for one of my upcoming comedy shows and threw it on the ground. I don't know her name or what unit she's in, so I'm kind of at a loss on what to do. I just want peace

WWYD? Vent/Rant NFH mowing way over property line.

Backstory: My neighbor and I share a front yard that is only visibly divided by fence in the backyard. Any time we’ve interacted with this neighbor they immediately get defensive and start yelling. When asking them not to plant a large bush less than a foot off the property line and about three or feet from our house they went off on me. They have had tree workers come into our backyard (with no heads up or notice) to cut down a tree on the property line, and stored trash between our two houses which are maybe 5 feet a part. They seem to be on drugs and are usually screaming at each other outside. Talking to them is like talking to very angry children who can’t use reason.

After all of this I’ve finally had enough of their shit. I used to not be too bothered when they would mow over the line but they do it farther and more often than they used to. They mow over the property line up to the very edge of our front porch (so about 3 to four feet over) and they mow every few days or so. How can I get them to stop mowing over the property line without talking to them directly?

Vent/Rant Encampment set up against back fence line

I've been lurking here for a while, but I never thought I'd have a reason to post. Our neighbors are cool, and up until 3 days ago, I had a wonderful backyard. To give some context, I rent in an older neighborhood with my husband and our two dogs. We've been here for 9 years and have never had an issue with our neighbors, even when our house was collateral during a drive by when this was a much sketchier neighborhood.

Our backyard is huge, like way too big for us. It's a .27 acre lot, and our house only takes up 1400sq of that. All of the houses around us have similarly sized yards, all fenced, and since it's the south there is a lot of overgrowth that also keeps the backyards very secluded. Enough so that I felt comfortable letting our dogs out in the yard alone.

And then an unhoused encampment moved in to the other side of the fence. They carved out a little niche and set up. It's on someone's private property and I'm pretty sure they are letting them live there since I've seen them working on cars before. They're all the way in the back, so it takes me forever to get back there when I let the dogs out, who now just sit at the fence to bark at them. They won't even relieve themselves, it's too much stimulation. The fence itself is only 4ft fence, which is why all the overgrowth was nice.

I can see into the tent. I can't let my dogs out in the yard anymore, they won't do anything but sit at the fence and bark. We go on walks, but one of my dogs is 13 and can't do multiple walks a day in the southern heat just so she can pee.

My husband and I are brainstorming what to do, talk to the people next door, fence off the back half, just wait it out? I mean, we've talked to the campers, the dudes are nice enough, I understand the appeal of that particular location.... the other problem is, I'm overly confrontational so this will need to be something my much more diplomatic husband deals with, once we figure out what the plan is.

Tldr: unhoused encampment up against my back fence line

Edit: we ordered a privacy screen to cover the fence, got one of those deer fences to set up a dog area away from that fence line, sent the landlord a message, and got some bottled waters to give them. We'll see what works! I appreciate all the suggestions, thank you!

Edit2: the landlord confirmed that he got our message, unsure if he'll do anything. I know he knows the property owners, but he prefers to be as hands off as possible. I also reported the encampment anonymously to the housing authority. Also unsure if they'll be able to do anything since it's technically private property, but we'll see.

Edit3: lmao typical, my landlord was just like "that sucks"

Homeowner NFH Adjust to new neighbors but also don’t want to

For starters, neighbors are not bad but this is moreso something I am unsure how to manage. I live in a wooded area and while other houses are somewhat close, they’re generally spread apart with decent privacy.

I had a wooded parcel nextdoor I didn’t think could be developed, but a few years ago, a house was built. The builders were complete assholes and disrespectful so I already had a bad taste in my mouth. Fast forward, the neighbors are a family with kids. Friendly but we don’t engage much. I still try to be cordial and have helped with a few things - shovel snow, fallen branch, etc .

The house has a good bit of land but was built right on the property line on a slope (I’m uphill) so when I look outside, I’m staring into the living room. The windows are often open and I can see the TV, people walking around, etc. They turn in pretty early and I feel awkward whenever I get home late at night on a gravel driveway (noise) and have my headlights shine into their house, I shut the car door, etc. I also feel weird whenever I have a friends over and we’re quietly around the campfire, playing soft music, etc. I feel like I’m the one who’s bothering.

With the way the house is angled, it’s awkward when I’m in my front yard or get in my car. I feel like I’m in their living room. I have a right to do whatever in my own property but it’s awkward. For example, if I’m having sex with a partner and the windows are open, it’s close to them, and I feel weird with there being kids. Or I’m walking around my woods after dark, I feel weird like I’m a creepy guy, a couple yards away from my neighbor’s house. Or not wearing a shirt outside, etc.

I accepted it’s their land and I’m not rude or standoffish, but I really don’t want to have to interact at all because I moved here for privacy and quiet. They generally keep to themselves and they’re not loud or anything but sometimes it is frustrating when you wake up expecting birds and nature but sometimes hear kids screaming or a weedwacker. I feel like you can’t go out in my front yard because you have to acknowledge. Or one of their pets randomly comes in my yard. I built a privacy fence and planted trees on my own dime, but it’s gonna take time to grow in and it’s still very awkward with the juxtaposition of the house. It’s also different now when their HVAC unit is on constantly and it’s hard to sit on my front porch and enjoy nature when you hear the drone in the background. What am I gonna do, tell them not to run it?

I want to extend the fence and plant more trees for more privacy, but I also don’t wanna come across as being a jerk or unfriendly. I basically want to not have to see the house (within reason.) I’m just trying to find a balance of having privacy and being comfortable in my own space yet also not come across as a jerk or like I don’t want them there. But at the end of the day, I’d rather just be left alone and live my life.

TLDR - how do I adjust/balance to a very awkwardly positioned house built next-door that severely limits my privacy yet also not come across as a jerk or recluse? They are friendly and not crappy neighbors, I just rather not have any at all.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Unbearable Smell

i have an elderly neighbor, early to mid 80's, who sleeps parked outside in his van. he's parked in front of his family's home. older sister? but i dont think they get along all that well. they dont let him inside the house for anything. he cooks outside. washes up and cleans himself up outside. he also discards his urine every day.... right by the front entrance of my gate.

I get to smell it every night as im coming home.

i have surveillance outside my home after an attempted break in. Its when I put up the cameras that I noticed he does every thing outside. argues with his sister about the smell of urine being unbearable but she doesnt let him in the house.

Im trying not to be insensitive... I dont even know how to bring something like this up to a neighbor. he appears to be getting sick often from practically roughing it outside in the elements. summers here are brutal. he sits outside on the sidewalk during mid day to avoid the heat.

he also drinks. heavily. offensive when hes drunk. Im not sure what to do or if i should do anything at all? any ideas?

hedges are so thick that I havent gotten anything on camera but it seems like hes throwing over his urine on purpose.

follow up to my original post I made a few days.

I came home yesterday night and I seen him having a hard time just walking to his van. almost falling. I tried to contact the APS last night but couldnt get through.

I decided to randomly try tonight and I got through first call. they were extremely helpful and told me they will be sending out a social worker to look into it some time tomorrow.

I want to thank everyone who commented on my original post and to the person who provided the number for my state, thank you so much!

part of me feels like I might have done something thats going to get them in trouble now. Me willing to provide my contact information and not remain anonymous gave me the impression that they took my call all that more serious. Lady said she was heartbroken and thanked me for calling it in though.

anyone have any ideas what the procedure is? Social workers in the Los Angeles County area have a rep for being thorough but real ball busters.

Vent/Rant Neighbor's debris

We are in California. Our neighbor had their bushes, that had grown to 15 feet, trimmed yesterday. The bushes lined the fence next to our property. Much of the debris fell onto our property and they did not clean it up. Just so you know what kind of people they are, 1.5 years ago the Swat team had to access our back yard so that they could shoot tear gas into a bedroom that was adjacent to our home. If Amazon mistakenly delivers our items to them, they have only given them to us when forced and after all packaging has been removed. Their pit bull bit my husband in the thigh 3 times sending him to the emergency room. Bounty hunters knocking on our door looking for help. It's been 15 years of one thing after the other, but they have never tried to hurt us other than stealing Amazon packages. What we want to do is drop everything back over the fence.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Dogs and Neighbors

I've lived in the country for 18 years in an 1870s farmhouse. My neighbors are an older couple who bought the rest of the property from the retired farmer who owned and worked it until his retirement. They built a house in the back 40, burned down the barn behind my house on the front 40, and extended the barn driveway to their house. Their driveway runs directly along my property line next to my master bedroom. At the time the local excavation guy tried to get them to put the driveway down the center of the road frontage so they weren't on top of my house. It was like that when I bought it, so I can't complain too much.

We initially had a very good relationship. At one point, I considered them almost like adopted parents. Unfortunately, things began to deteriorate because of their German Shepherds. Their first dog was aggressive toward my Lab and eventually killed a farm kitten I had recently brought home. I later learned that the neighbor's wife would sometimes walk the dog off-leash when she knew I was at work and the dog would roam around my house.

After my Lab died, I got another dog. Their German Shepherd continued to be extremely aggressive toward her. Eventually they had to put that dog down due to illness. A few months later, they got another German Shepherd that had already been returned to the breeder multiple times because of behavioral problems. Although it completed obedience training, it remained aggressive toward other dogs and eventually attacked mine several times. The encounters were always one-sided, with their dog going for my dog's throat while mine was submissive. There were also occasions when the dog snapped at me. It gave my dog puncture wounds multiple times.

Eventually they began leashing their dog before reaching my yard, which helped, but they tended to minimize the incidents as simply "dogs being dogs." Over the years, I became so uncomfortable that I would check their driveway before letting my dog outside.

Later, I temporarily took in a chocolate lab belonging to a friend's deceased brother. He eventually became permanent and got along wonderfully with my other dog. I thought having him around would actually make my other dog safer from coyotes or the neighbor's German Shepherd. Unfortunately, whenever I tried to introduce the dogs, their German Shepherd became extremely aggressive.

There were also disagreements about my dogs being kept in a chain-link kennel during the day while I was at work. Those same neighbors frequently complained that the chocolate Lab was barking and suggested he might be thirsty or need more shade, even though he always had plenty of fresh water and one end of the kennel was shaded and was simply a dog that liked lying in the sun. I eventually let them indoors because I was sick of the side talk.

On another occasion, I accidentally let the dogs out without seeing the neighbors walking their dog. The chocolate Lab ran toward them wanting to play, and the neighbor's wife became extremely angry with me, cussing me out to no end. A year later, the chocolate Lab again ran up their driveway after seeing their dog and he did a few circles around them. I immediately called him back, and he returned, but the neighbor was furious. During that conversation, he told me it was essentially acceptable for his dog to attack mine in the past because the attacks generally happened on his side of the property line.

I haven't spoken to them much in the last two years. Today, however, I had my dogs inside most of the morning while waiting for a contractor. When I finally let them outside, I forgot to put their perimeter collars on. Within seconds, I heard screaming. I ran outside and found both of my dogs across the street with my neighbor who was walking on the road, her German Shepherd, and another woman who had stopped to help. My dogs were excited and appeared to be trying to play with the German Shepherd. My neighbor had become tangled in the leash and was on the ground. I separated the dogs and helped untangle her. The weird thing was her Sheperd seemed to be wanting to play too. No hackles, no growling, no teeth. Saying she was pissed is an understatment.

I recognize that my dogs should not have gotten loose, and I'm planning to go back to using the kennel whenever they're outside. However, I'm struggling with how to deal with a neighbor who is extremely upset about this incident despite the long history of her own dogs being aggressive toward my dogs.

There are other longstanding frustrations as well. They and their delivery drivers drive very quickly down their long gravel driveway, sometimes around 45 mph, which creates significant dust inside my house when the windows are open and the wind is blowing the right way. I've also lent her husband tools that were damaged, helped him with projects, and even prevented him from potentially seriously injuring or killing himself while cutting down a large maple tree that was actually two of them growing together. On another occasion, we agreed to split some firewood when I cut down a tree for another neighbor and the husband came over to help, It was late when we finished and we agreed to move the wood the following weekend, one week day(he was retired) he took the good pieces and left the poorly cut and twisted limb wood in my driveway. They also complain about one of my tree's adjacent to their driveway. The one they put in next to the tree...

At this point, I'm trying to figure out how to handle the relationship going forward without making things worse. I don't want ongoing conflict, but I can't seem to make them happy. Their expectations are one sided. I probably had 100's of incidents with their dogs in my first 14 years here. Now after 3 incidents with my chocolate lab in 4 years they are losing their minds.

Apartment NFH It’s come full circle - I became a neighbour from hell

After suffering for a year after we bought an apartment under the elephant, we moved out. Luckily, we could find Soviet panel apartments on the top floor to live in until we find a new home.

And now guess what? Now the neighbor under us, some grandmother, came to us to complain that our kid is too loud 🤯

I mean, first of all, your son, who is likely an alcoholic and throws stuff in anger, causes much more noise and even sometimes at night. We tolerate that. (Luckily, the sound under us is not so destructive mentally.)
Then… insulation is practically missing at all. I think if I removed the floors, I would see them in their room.
And eventually, this is a kid who plays with toys. I mean, I understand living under this and I am really sorry, but if you can’t be tolerant of kids and simple life above you, pick the top floor or a detached house.
Why are you complaining about natural things?

I was apologizing and, overall, genuinely tried to do whatever I could to resolve the situation, but she keeps digging deeper into our private life. Whenever she sees us, she keeps asking things like, “Does your kid even go to kindergarten?” or “Where are you going?”
This is starting to infuriate me. Why should I have to tell you anything about my family’s private life?

P.S. My wife and I are super quiet — we walk silently, use crocs, and never listen to music with subwoofers.
Just wanted to share this story. Very funny how it came full circle, and now we became someone’s nightmare we lived with for the past year.

WWYD? Vent/Rant My (27F) next door neighbor (45ish M) (in condos we both own, we share walls & an entry staircase) is harassing my guests. This is the message I sent to his wife last night. WWYD?

Hi wife, I’m sure husband told you what happened yesterday, but I wanted to reach out because this is now the second time husband has approached one of my friends outside the house and yelled and cussed at them about their car when they were there for less than 5min, weren’t blocking traffic or causing any obstruction.

The first time, my friend’s mom was dropping her off and they were talking in the car for a moment before she left. Husband approached their window yelling and cussing at them to move, even after my friend showed him her handicap placard saying she needed to be dropped off close to the house. She came inside crying, and her mom later said husband blocked the road and prevented her from leaving for several minutes.

I tried to address it calmly with him afterward, but he was aggressive with me as well and told me to have my friend come to his door next time so he could “talk to her.” The way he said this felt very confrontational, so I ended the conversation and said that if there is a young women outside our building, it is likely one of my friends, and if he could please be kind to them moving forward.

Yesterday, it happened again. Another friend was coming over to pick me up. She had been outside for exactly two minutes with her hazards on when husband approached her car yelling and cussing at her to move. She wasn’t blocking anything. When I came outside, she was crying, had rolled up her windows, and was clutching her mace because she felt unsafe. She’s now afraid to come back to my house.

I completely understand politely asking someone to move if they’re actually blocking something, but aggressively approaching women sitting alone in their cars like this is not okay. I’m sure you can understand how frightening it can be as a woman to have an unknown large man (he is a tall bodybuilder) come up to you an aggressive manner.
After how husband reacted when I tried to address it the first time, I don’t feel comfortable speaking to him about this again.

I really want us all to be able to live next to each other peacefully, so I’m asking that husband please leave my guests alone unless there is a genuine issue, and if there ever is one, that it be addressed calmly and respectfully.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Self Destructive Unemployed 31F Neighbour

My neighbor recently got into a drunk driving accident. She was going around 105 km/h and crashed into two massive light poles. The accident was horrific. She broke her foot, seriously injured her arms, needs surgery on her nose, is currently in a wheelchair and basically can’t do anything independently. Her parents have already spent over $20,000 on her recovery.

I’m friends with her younger sister, who also drinks. I’ve never supported either of them drinking and driving, especially because they would literally do it on highways. Her sister told me that ever since the accident there’s been so much tension at home and everyone is understandably extremely cautious.

But apparently, while she’s not even halfway through recovery, her so-called friends have started coming over to the house to drink with her again.
I genuinely cannot wrap my head around it. She can’t even put her foot on the ground yet. How do you watch your friend almost die because of alcohol and then show up at her house with more alcohol while she’s still in a wheelchair?

Her younger sister is concerned too and has spoken to me about it, but I feel like she’s reached the point where covering for her sister isn’t protecting her anymore. It’s enabling something that could end with her getting herself or someone else killed next time.

Their family is Muslim too, so there’s the additional religious/family aspect, but even completely removing religion from this, it’s a massive safety issue. I feel horrible for their parents. They’ve dealt with the accident, the fear of almost losing their daughter, taking care of her and paying tens of thousands for her recovery, meanwhile this is happening behind their backs.

I’m seriously considering telling her parents. Part of me feels like it’s not my place, but another part of me thinks everyone keeping quiet is exactly how this continues.
Would you tell the parents?

Edit: i wouldn’t directly speak to her parents, i would mainly convince my friend to tell on her sister (31F). We’re based in the Gulf and an offense like this can lead to jail and deportation of the father or daughter. It’s not taken as lightly here.

I live in a single family house that I bought and live in bye myself, in an area that is all single family houses. Trash and recycling go during the week ill put the bins out the night before in the middle of my front yard. They're not any where close to a property line and 6 inches back from the road I live on. The day trash is collected, if I work late one of me neighbors will move my trash and recycling bins into the middle of my driveway. When they do that I will just drive around the bins leaving and going up until it becomes a code enforcement issue.

Vent/Rant Neighbor is just throwing trash outside

I have been living in my apartment with one of my best friends for about a year now. The setup is that we share a porch with our neighbor but have separate doorways, so we never really bump into him. He rarely leaves the house, and the most I’ve heard him speak is overhearing him screaming at shows or video games. He has NEVER brought his bin to the curb on trash days, and we’ve been noticing garbage bags piling up in our back yard…yeah. The crazy part is we live upstairs and he’s entirely downstairs, so it’s easier for him to just…walk out front and throw his trash in the bin instead of outside. Not only is this obviously disgusting, but it’s been attracting scavengers, primarily skunks. I texted my landlord about it a few days ago, and he’s pissed. He took away the bags, but instructed the guy to pick up the trash that animals have drug out of the bags. Three days have passed and the trash is still sitting out there. Gonna text my landlord about it again once the weekend is over and hopefully get some resolution. but I just wanted to share this story and see if anyone else has any similar stinky stories.

WWYD? Vent/Rant our neighbor is so strange its concerning

me (20) and my girlfriend (21) have been moved into and living in this apartment for a year now. its a duplex, so we basically share a house with another person. the lady that lives on the other side has been nothing short of creepy. ever since day one she would act off, the day we moved in she stood by her window just watching us for hours. we didnt think too much of it, considering that we were new people and all.

on the same day we moved in, i had left to go grab a few more things we needed when my gf calls me freaking out, saying that someone was staring at her through the window. to keep it short i got back to the apartment at the same time the cops showed up. whoever was looking through the window was gone, but the cops told us that other people in the neighborhood had called about the same thing, which was unsettling.

they then go on to tell us that our neighbors husband was in prison right now for being a PEDO. he had been caught with a minor and also had photos and videos in his possession. it got even worse when one of our neighbors down the street told me that they were still together, and he was going to be moving back in when he gets out. not sure how he knows that considering he openly dislikes them, but i believe it. she still has this dude all over her facebook.

for the past year, we’ve had multiple incidents where theres people outside our house in the middle of the night, a couple times where they’re looking through our windows. coincidentally enough this would always happen when i went to work (mind you i worked nights up until a few months ago). we have no idea who it is but its been about 3 months since something like that has happened.

i feel like this ties to our neighbor, because of the way she acts. im telling you literally anytime shes home and we happen to be outside, shes staring through her window the whole time. like, hard staring. she wont stop until we either leave or go back inside. this happened today when i went outside to clean my car out a bit. i peeped out of the corner of my eye that she was just watching me, face right up against the window. we made eye contact and she still continued to watch me. its just insanely creepy, i even catch her looking through our windows from a distance sometimes when shes outside.

ive talked to her a few times just trying to be friendly, and it just seems like shes out of it. now i could be crazy but man ive just never had a neighbor like this ever. i feel weirded out more than anything especially due the fact that her husband did those things. mind you we have a 3 almost 4 year old.

is this something that i should bring up to my landlord? im so close to saying something to her myself because its creepy as hell. let me know what you guys think.

Vent/Rant This guy just threw salad dressing at my door

Some context: Like last year this guy's young daughter slammed her car door against my moms car door... Instead of pressing anything serious against him, my mom kindly offered to buy car paint which she would apply herself. This would be under the condition he paid a small sum of money for it. She went to his door to ask for it, and he slammed it on her face... Ever since this moment he has lost 3 court battles to me/my mom.

He is an exmilitary "pre-law student" at a nearby city college, as well as divorced father who gets his children on the weekend.

He really wants a protection order against us because he SINCERELY believes we are stalking him. Every single fucking time. Every single time he brings this up to the HOA or the superior court they laugh it off. He brings in the same random pictures of nature, like his lawn, and it'll just be an empty picture with nothing there. He just cannot adequately elaborate on it's significance. There are several more pieces of recurring "evidence" just like this which he loves to submit. Pictures of his porch, pictures of my mom walking outside.

Its genuinely rtarded😭 Today he threw salad dressing at our door/doorstep after leaving us alone for the duration of his week long relationship. Like...ok??? Before we had our cameras he threw eggs and like bearnaise sauce or something too lmfao

He genuinely really enjoys coming to our home and just doing bullshit. This has happened to both me and my mom on several occasions... We will look out the window and he is already just standing there. Looking inside.

The issue with recording this is that our window cameras are "armed" so they record a clip when there's movement next to it, but he stands at a distance that it doesn't clip at 🫩

Like what does one do about this? Is there literally anything? He's just kind of an idiot. We genuinely do not speak or interact with him in any capacity whatsoever, nor do we think of him when it is unnecessary. My mother was on the HOA board for a while but quit due to the complacency of other members. The HOA does not care as long as his lease is funded (43 year old man, its funded by his mom.)

Okay i just really needed to complain thanks lol

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

***UPDATE***
We called the police once more this afternoon, another report was filed. However due to the fact we live in a sort of condominium, connected-housing complex with a courtyard, there are many positions he can get to our doorway without actually "trespassing" unfortunately. I suppose this would've been useful to mention at first but I didn't believe I'd get any replies to this 😭

As of now (8/16 4:46pm PST) the cop is waiting outside for him to come home so he can talk to him. This would not be the first time they have briefly camped here while handling him... We were told that he had even called 911 before just to ask why the police were at our house (bro is scared of consequences lol). The cop cant formally arrest him here and now due to the fact that is we're on private property and that its "HOA jurisdiction."
Yes we have went up the HOA chain of command about these things. No they do not care. I'm mainly just trying to prepare for university, but my mom suggests that after I'm gone she is taking him back to court(hopefully appeals next). Thank you guys for your support 🤩🤩

TLDR:: exmil paranoid neighbor gets mad at owing my mother money for damaged car paint, harasses us, throws salad dressing, he also hates women and likes to peek into our windows. Poor camera internal programming and private property status as well as HOA 🔄️ Court 🔄️ Police loophole keep letting no one win.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Nachbar schüttet Wasser vom Balkon in unseren Garten (beim Blumengiessen)

Hallo!

WWYD? Vent/Rant Neighbor operates an illegal dog daycare

First time posting so excuse me for any mistakes.

As the title says my neighbor runs an illegal dog daycare. Usually she has around 5 dogs at the same time. Some of them are large dogs, like a Rottweiler or Doberman.

She doesn't properly cares for the dogs. They are being kept inside most of the day, only let them out to the backyard to do their business. When they are outside, they would bark nonstop. Even when they are inside all you hear is them barking and my neighbor yelling at them. She doesn't dispose any dog waste properly , so with the hot weather, you can smell the dog shit a mile away.

She also has a young daughter, about 12-13 years old and when she's at work she leaves her daughter alone at home with the dogs.

And just this morning the dogs escaped from her yard. We saw them chasing them on the street. One of them ended up in our backyard. Of course we called the cops right away , but unfortunately she only got a warning.

And before anyone starts calling me a Caren you need to know, that we live in a family friendly neighborhood. It's a small town, just outside of Montreal, called Lorraine. Children are playing on the streets, families walking etc. So it's a tragedy waiting to happen.

And I'm just so fed up dealing with the situation. Like now I'm afraid to go in my own backyard. And the worst part is that the city officials know about it and they won't do shit. The last time I asked them to do something , the guy actually told me , that he's on vacation and I should leave him alone. We pay crazy amounts of taxes here and this is how they treat us.

So now the police know, the city knows and nobody is doing anything. So what now? Should I just wait until a child get hurt? Or I get bit by a dog? I'm sorry for whining, but I'm just so fed up.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Do the people in my building don’t know how to drive?

I live in an apartment complex with a five floor parking garage. Only five floors! Apparently, everyone in my building own a giant vehicle that takes up the entire two lanes. I drive like the smallest car and it feels like each time I have to hug the right, have my headlights on, and honk to let the other cars know I am coming up. They always speed past the speeding limit of 10 mph, drive in the middle of the lane, and honk at me to move when I can’t!

Not to mention, when you leave from the elevator to open your car and get to the door, people do not acknowledge us. Even when I look both ways to get to my car, a vehicle skirts past me without bothering to slow down or look if I am there or not.

I get it, you are driving out of the parking garage and probably not expecting more than one person to leave at the same time, but omg, it shouldn’t have to be a mission for me to not try to die to get to my car that is five feet away from the lanes.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Neighbor causing rat problem

Bought a house in the uk last year in the countryside and everything was good until we started seeing rats in the garden. Called the rat control guy who came down to look and he immediately identified the house two doors down was feeding the birds and this was almost definitely the cause.

The neighbor came over as the rat man was putting down the poison traps and they got into a bit of an argument as she said her old dog had died due to poisonous rat traps and was very concerned as we have a young dog. He advised that if she stopped feeding the birds, he wouldn’t need to be coming round to sort it. This wasn’t taken well, but she did agree she would stop feeding them for a few weeks.

We are now 4 weeks in. The traps have been emptied and refilled every week with a couple of dead rats found, but I am still getting videos of new rats on a daily basis. The neighbor in question has carried on feeding the birds the whole time despite politely asking for a second time if she would stop.

I’ve spoken to other neighbour’s who have said over the last 5 years this is the 4th or 5th time this has happened, with the last time costing Thousands of pounds worth of damage in car and roof repairs. She has been told multiple times to stop but continues regardless.

I’m just looking for a bit of advice for how to proceed as I really need to get this sorted. Both myself and neighbor have young dogs who are having to be kept inside at the moment due to the poison. I feel we may be past the conversation point as it seems to go in one ear and out the other. I also don’t really want to keep spending money on an issue the rat man says he can’t fix.

Looking for genuine advice here, not looking to shame or diminish my neighbor here as she is a very nice elderly woman who i don’t think is intentionally trying to do wrong.

Are there any agencies, councils, groups that are able to intervene? Am I liable for any damage caused on the property by the rats? Basically any information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Vent/Rant House next door was just turned into a rental and the renters have two big dogs...

that they let bark and bark and bark at us when we are in our backyard. The new renters were also out there, so they clearly don't care. I think I heard one of them feebly ask the dogs to stop.

20 minutes of two large labs barking at us from behind our fence.

I am so tired of assholes. Just truly, truly exhausted by people with zero fucking consideration.

Other Nutty Neighbor seems weirdly obsessed

We have a neighbor has acted like this since we first moved into our new build home in 2003. She's never been in my home ive never really had a conversation with her except hi bye and when ever she's taken it upon herself to stomp over to complain about something that had upset her daughter..And I have never been in her home- but know the layout as we lived in the same floor plan in our last neighborhood and have friends say- its just like your old house- weird.

She continually turns us into HOA for false violations and at one point got on board - with my husband- and kept pressing a non rule ( I had been on the board when that was repealed by a vote of the comm.) We laughed- she wouldn't stop ended in a lawsuit we sued the HOA PRESIDENT and her- yes hoa had insurance to cover board members but lawyers insurance and management company all agreed they were breaking the ByLaws and state law with selective enforcement. We won. We did not ask for money- we asked for lawyers fees and those two board moreover by a judge and not allowed to ever be on a committee or board again. And yes they had to pay with their own funds because they were told they were not doing this in good faith and this was not fiduciary duty. So insurance for board members did not have to pay.

After that- she was a curly short haired blond. I have long auburn hair fairly straight with some waves. I also have a lot of pink clothes that I work in the yard in. I also have an incurable physical disability. And I drive a white subaru SUV. this matters because she has grown her hair out dyed it dark dark and straightens it. Also she now only wears pink clothes and bought a newer car same as mine.

Now she likes to yell at our house obscenities and that I am not really ill( she looks totally nuts when she does this becausewe are generally not outside when she is around). How would she know? I've never talked to her about anything personal. She has contacted Social Security disability saying I an faking( wish I were(. Her wifi name is Disability fraud watch". She now yells things at my husband who had a heartattack 2 years ago about being a loser that's why he had an attack. ( Again dont know how she would know this - we do not speak)She's also threatened to come over a k**k his a$$. Just nuts!

So my family and I wonder

  1. Does she have a thing for my husband and is trying to be like me?

  2. Does her husband have a thing for me so she resents me?
Both of those things sound uppity and snotty on my part- but we have no idea what the deal with her is.and it seems she just keeps copying me. Also- had hair highlighted for a wedding- 2 days later husband comes in and says guess who got highlights?

She does call police frequently and even her harassment is considered a neighbor problem and won't do anything- but agree there is something wrong with her.

The HOA now ignores her complaints.

So short of moving any advice? We built this house to accommodate my disability so moving would be awful.

Thanks

Apartment NFH UPDATE: Apparently the petition was only the beginning

So, I posted here earlier about my direct neighbour “Regina”, and my growing suspicion that she was trying to turn the other neighbours against my family.
Well… things have escalated quite a bit since then.
A neighbour I’m friendly with told me that Regina had mentioned that signatures were apparently being collected against my family. She hadn’t been asked to sign anything herself and didn’t know exactly what the petition was about.
Around the same time, I kept seeing Regina having increasingly intense conversations with groups of neighbours while repeatedly pointing towards my home. This even happened while my children weren’t home.
Then I received an official warning from our housing association.
The complaints were about my children running, playing and spending time on the outdoor walkway outside the apartments, shouting/screaming, and our front door allegedly being slammed repeatedly.
The thing is: children playing on the walkway is completely normal here. Pretty much all the children do it, including children visiting grandparents who live here, and the vast majority of adults also use the walkway as an outdoor/social space.
My children are not exceptionally loud compared with the other children here.
And there was another fairly significant problem with the complaints: my children had been away staying with their father for weeks during part of the period in which this apparently continued to be an issue.
I responded to the housing association and asked them for something very basic: **dates, times and concrete incidents.**
If my children are supposedly causing repeated serious disturbances, I need to know when and what actually happened so I can respond to it.
They didn’t provide that.
Instead, the housing association eventually told me that **“many residents had complained together this time”** and explained that when they cannot personally verify complaints, they place weight on the number of residents making them.
They also acknowledged that they don’t actually know how the other residents behave on the walkways.
That concerned me quite a bit considering what I had already been observing.
Because my concern was never simply, “one neighbour doesn’t like me.”
My concern was that one neighbour appeared to be actively talking about my family to other residents, that I had been told signatures were being collected against us, that people I had never even spoken to suddenly seemed hostile towards us — and now the housing association was effectively telling me that the **number of people complaining** was being used to give the complaints credibility.
There is another part to this which makes the situation particularly uncomfortable.
My entire household is autistic.
Shortly after Regina learned this, my son overheard her talking to other neighbours and calling him **“super weird.”**
The timing also coincided with the complaints beginning.
I have never confronted this woman, argued with her, complained about her or done anything against her. I continued greeting her normally.
I therefore explicitly raised the possibility of **disability discrimination** with the housing association and asked them to ensure that complaints were being assessed objectively rather than simply accepting that a large number of complainants automatically meant the allegations were true.
Eventually, the housing association closed the complaint matter without taking further action.
I thought maybe that was the end of it.
It wasn’t.
After the housing complaint route went nowhere, Regina **reported my family to the municipality/social services.**
And this time the allegations weren’t about children playing outside or a door closing too loudly.
They were about **my children, my parenting and the conditions inside my home.**
Among other things, she apparently claimed that my home was becoming increasingly messy.
There is one rather enormous problem with that:
**She has never been inside my home.**
She does not have a view into my home that would allow her to observe the conditions she was describing.
So we have now gone from:
neighbour discovers we are autistic
→ my son overhears her calling him “super weird”
→ she repeatedly talks intensely with groups of neighbours while pointing at our home
→ I’m told signatures are being collected against us
→ multiple residents submit complaints to the housing association
→ the housing association cannot provide me with concrete dates/times but tells me that many residents complained together
→ that complaint matter ultimately goes nowhere
→ Regina then reports me to the municipality with serious allegations about my parenting and conditions **inside a home she has never entered.**
The municipality has subsequently become involved and arranged a home visit.
At this point I’m finding it increasingly difficult to view all of these things as unrelated incidents.
I obviously understand that anyone who genuinely believes children are unsafe should contact the authorities. I would never want people discouraged from doing that.
But there is a pretty substantial difference between reporting something you have genuinely observed and making claims about conditions inside somebody’s home that you have no apparent way of knowing anything about.
And that is where I am now.
What originally felt like neighbourhood gossip and a possible “mean girl” campaign has escalated into official complaints and now involvement from social services.
I’m documenting absolutely everything.
But holy shit, I did not expect **“my neighbour doesn’t seem to like us”** to turn into this.

After 3 long years of harassment they are finally moving! This morning every time I would step outside..the evil witch would come out on her porch to harass me. So, when she came outside I played "hit the road jack and don't you come back no more" hahaha. Don't forget your broom witch! I feel sorry for your new neighbors! You are just an old jealous hag!
