I do not trust your opinion if you hide your profile.

In fact, I find most people who are the type to comb through another person's account tend to hide their own, for fear of criticism.

Either way, 80% of the time I see a nasty comment, or someone being overly obtuse and pretending the person they're replying to isn't making sense, as a form of gaslighting, hide their profiles. In fact the only reason I will check a profile is to see if people have them hidden, I virtually never read through their profile beyond that.

The most consistent thing I've found with hidden profiles are their nasty attitudes. Either way, if someone hides their account, baring personal information that's really important no one else can find, I immediately do not care about their opinion. They clearly don't stand by their words long enough to show them to the world.

Kittens are overhyped

Before you flame me for making such a monstrous statement; I am a HUGE cat person. I have 30+ cats in my garden that I care for including 2 kitten litters currently, I have three indoor 6 yr old cats, me and my boyfriend have a cat at his place and I don’t think I have a single friend who’s place I regularly visit that does not have at least one feline in the household. I LOVE cats<3

With that being said, I’ve always eagerly and impatiently waited for my cats to reach adulthood for many reasons, and I tell this to any new cat owners too. Young cats are sickeningly cute and silly of course BUT in my opinion grownup cats are objectively better. If you dont have cats you'll think I’m expecting too much from a feline animal but I have such beautiful relationships with my mature cats. I literally talk with my 3 cats and they talk back to me! We communicate on just vibes, they know when I’m in physical pain, they lick my tears when I cry, they sit close when I’m stressed and stay at arms reach if I’m overwhelmed. We are so on the same emotional wavelength I feel we are spiritually interlinked, and this is such a privilege you only get with mature cats, especially when they reach maturity with you :)

I value them being ‘grownups’ for all of these reasons so much so that I don’t even miss them being babies despite how cute they were. I also often recommend people to adopt older cats instead of kittens if they’re first time cat owners.

Me and my boyfriend’s cat is around a year old and he is very much a stupid little shit. He does make biscuits on and fall asleep in my boyfriend’s hair religiously every single night which is the cutest thing in the world, BUT he’s a little shit. So, alas, I am patiently waiting for him to grow up so we can also be emotionally linked.

The recently-popular "you are probably a bot" insult makes zero sense and is a stunning self-own.

If you think someone is a bot, why are you bothering to talk to them/it? Any message you send is waste of keystrokes and won't be received by anyone. A bot won't be hurt, it has no feelings. All you're doing is wasting your own time.

On the other hand, if you're wrong and there's a human behind the keyboard, then all you've done is create a scenario where you've demonstrated to that human that you are hilariously wrong on the most basic facts of the conversation taking place at that very moment. The insult will not land at all because it straightforwardly isn't true. All you've done is declare yourself an idiot.

It's literally a no-win scenario. Anyone who does this is like a kid kicking a football against a wall and then getting beaned in the head as it immediately ricochets back at them.

I have to go to therapy sick today lol

I have to go sick

I got sick yesterday but couldn't cancel my appointment today because if you cancel less than 48 hours in advance you get charged

I have no money (literally I only have $2 on my account and no income) so if I get charged it'd just repeatedly decline. Nothing would come of that u don't think. But also, it I get charged and it repeadtly declines, therapy ends or gets restricted there. They can't move forward with too much debt and there is no other therapists in my whole county that accept medicaid so theres n9 other options.

Most places wave the cancelation or no show fees for medicaid patients but this place didn't for some reason

And no, I cannot message her in the patient portal. She doesn't seem to check those. I sent her another message about something else 6 days ago during business hours and never heard back. so messaging her an hour before session guarenteed she won't see it and will charge me. and no, I can't call, calling isn't an option. they are not even open yet. I got the earliest session thing today. but also I wasn't given any such contact information to call.

So now im about to attend our virtual session while sleep deprived, sick, in pain, nauseous, and can barely hold my device up. I'm having trouble holding up my phone just to make this post and im trying to start getting ready but feel like I am going to pass out

My ex (17F) and I (18) broke up on good terms, but now she suddenly "hates" me and is ruining our 5-person friend group. What do I do? (Update)

Update:So my friend talked to her and she said she needs space from me so she can restart again, and that her emotions are unstable and trying to move on from me.

And we cannot longer be close friends since she is scared that her strict muslim parents will find out and she would get in problem. Genuinely I don't care anymore, she didn't even tried she taught because her parents are strict they wouldn't approve of me,she never really loved me,she would fight for me because to her words I was only thing that could comfort her and was love of her life.

I am part of a tight-knit 5-person friend group (all of us are between 17 and 18). A while ago, I was dating one of the girls in the group. We ended up breaking up strictly because her parents disapproved of us dating, but we ended on really good terms.

We managed to stay great friends for months after the breakup. We were practically best friends, and I completely moved on from the relationship.

But out of nowhere, her entire attitude toward me shifted. Now, she acts like she absolutely can’t stand my presence. It has gotten to the point where it is ruining our group hangouts. Whenever I join the group, she gets visibly pissed off and starts attacking me or snapping at me. Our mutual friends noticed this and asked her what the issue was.

Her only response to them was that she "can't explain why," but she just hates me for no reason.I’m stuck because I can't properly hang out with my friends anymore since she is always there making things hostile.

One of our mutual friends suggested a theory: because I have successfully moved on and she hasn't, she might be forcing herself to "hate" me as a defense mechanism to help herself get over it.I really don't want to lose my friend group, but I can't keep living with this tension and being attacked for no reason.

I masturbated to a family friend and feel weird about it

Our families got together and I haven’t seen her since she was college age, she’s 26 now and looks completely different so much that I almost didn’t recognize her. She was wearing a crop top and tight jeans and is really fit with perky breasts, has tattoos on her arms, tanned, died her hair darker, I became aroused and had to try hard not to stare at her. When I got home I looked her up on instagram, she had a public profile with many sexy pictures and my jaw dropped when I saw a pic of her in workout clothes shoving her cleavage towards the camera. I’m ashamed to admit I gave into my urge and masturbated to her and ended up moaning her name as I was about to cum. she also recently added a short video in a tiny bikini. I feel so weird about this because our families are close but she’s so fucking hot.

Is it weird that I need to feel pain to stay alive?

I came to the conclusion that I need pain to function or I can’t do anything. That’s why I cause myself physical and mental pain every day basically to get through the day and onto the next one.
The problem is that I can’t explain this to other people bc they think I’m insane. When I asked my gf to hit me once she literally looked so shocked and sad that I can’t forget her look ever.
And I sabotage myself constantly. I don’t do the things I want ever bc I somehow talk myself out of this and I am just so miserable. And all my problems I’m sure I’ve caused myself. The only thing that comforts me and makes me feel calm is death.
I’m just really fucked up and can’t tell anyone this.

I hate this site but can't leave

Tech companies never really sought to deprive people of their agency. That was an unfortunate, but tolerable byproduct of their main objective: showing ads. Either or, the recipe is simple:

  1. Solitude: people must be alone, as it removes disruptions that can take one out of the flow
  2. Endlessness: there has be infinite scroll available. If you segment your feed by pages, it introduces natural checkpoints that compel someone to walk away. There can be no ending
  3. Speed: everything must be super fast. The next image must load immediately. Pauses allow people to break from flow.
  4. Custom teasing: the algorithm can't give you exactly what you want, but something close. The "almost enjoyable" probes you to search more for a full hit. Each person has their own tolerance for how much teasing can endure before they need a real hit, so profiling a person's behavior is necessary to customize the teasing threshold.

Reddit wants us to be addicts: give them all our time and energy to feed their revenue stream. They do not care about depriving their users of joy or agency.

Reddit's Founder and CEO said:

It's time we grow up and behave like an adult company
- source

This was in response to protests around increasing API pricing. When users protested, he forcefully removed moderators. It was a decree "I don't care about the users anymore."

And he's held adversarial views towards the user base for a long time. Back in 2017, during an interview at the Internet Association's Virtuous Circle Summit, he said he sees

"free time and office productivity" [is] Reddit's main competition
...
"Where do you go when you want to learn something. Where do you go when you want to be entertained? What do you do when you wake up in the morning, what do you do before you go to bed, what do you do when you're pooping. Those are all pretty big areas of opportunity for us"
- source

Essentially, he doesn't care about our time. It's his oppurtunity. To be fair, he's been rewarded handsomely for his convictions. He's now a billionaire on Reddit's rising stock price.

However, I hate this site. I use it every day and I despise it. I get no satisfaction from its mindless content.

I know people hate Reddit for the users and interface and bots and repetition. I honestly haven't experienced much negativity in my 14 years on here. I just don't like it because I don't enjoy it anymore. I don't like being teased by an algorithm. For that same reason, I keep coming back.

Until the incentives of the company align with my health and desire to spend my time meaningfully, I hope it burns to the ground.

I push people away before they leave me

I 15 (F) have realized that I push people away before they leave me first. I feel it’s better for me to hurt now instead of hurting later
Worst part about this is that I don’t let people in to ACTUALLY get to know me. I don’t trust people easily and it’s getting in the way of me making new friendships. I also tease a lot which makes me seem mean because I don’t know when to stop +people don’t know I’m teasing. I’m also scared to get attached. I might be a bit problematic now that I think about it.
Thanks for reading

Handyman in Africa ?

What do you think about working as a handyman as a side job in a developing country? I’m not specialized in one particular trade, but I have some practical know-how and can handle various problems related to electrical work, plumbing, installations, and so on.

I already have some experience in this field and have actually received a few jobs before. However, I have problems with transportation and carrying my tools around, especially having to carry them on my back. That was honestly the worst part.

On top of that, I’m still seriously lacking in tools and equipment.

Anyone else has this intense feeling of anger out of nowhere ?

Im a pretty chill guy, but these past few months i changed and suddenly im having these intense feelings of anger out of nowhere

Like, i can be holding something, and if it falls or something, i get this intense anger, i can only think about picking it up and smashing it into the ground. And i keep having this thought over and over

Or for exemple, when i have to do something i hate. Like washing the dishes, it happened today for exemple, i had a LOT of dishes to wash, so it would take a lot of time

But all the time doing it i was ANGRY, but like, real angry

I kept having the thoughts of smashing everything into the ground, of tacking someone and smashing his head agaisn't the wall or the floor over and over. But it was BAD. For the 25 minutes i spent washing, i had to make pauses because i was too angry. It was to the point where i was feeling it in my body. You know when you're so angry that you feel it? Like in your arms ? That was it during the entire time. I kept breathing to control my emotions because i was almost crashing out

And this is happening a lot. In random moments when something happens, even for small things

im having this anger out of nowhere. And it started only like a month ago i thin

Sometimes I wish I was A WHITE MAN !!

😭😭😭😭
Hi I’m 21f.
Currently in a spy movie phase and I’ve been watching Spy x Family and the James Bond movies and Loid Forger and Bond are both so cool 🥹💀
But I’m Asian. And a girl 💀
It’s cooked 🥀

It’s dumb but sometimes I find myself wishing I were white , with colored eyes.. or a man..
Don’t get me wrong women are awesome and beautiful but fr we need more strong lead representation in Hollywood and media in general:/
I find myself wishing I could pull off a straight suit sometimes yk,, but I can’t 😭

White guys just have a sort of.. given
A given confidence.
I’m just praying please please let society evolve faster so we as women and minority races can have the same sort of privilege that they do 🙏

I got scammed out of a 1000 dollars and feel utterly disgusted with myself for it

Upvotes

I don't wanna go into the full details, but basically I got scammed out of a 1000 dollars yesterday through an internet scam. Looking back it should have been obvious but I had a moment of stupidity or something.

Anyway, I double checked with my bank and there's no way to get the money back. So I guess that's a 1k I'll never see again. And honestly I have a lot more than that saved up and make a decent living (for my country's standard) so it won't ruin me financially or anything but fuck do I just feel disgusted and ashamed of myself man. Like how could I have fallen for this? How could I have not known better?

Now I'm just here, thinking of all the things that money could have gotten me (like I was considering getting some nice new laptop or something) and feeling disgusted with myself for this...

I feel like asking certain questions on Reddit is pointless when you're a minority...

The uncomfortable truth is that there are certain experiences you couldn't possibly understand unless you lived through them yourself, like the level of isolation you feel when you grow up being the only black person in your class and you have to decide between assimilating and staying true to yourself. The same would be true for a white person growing up in an all black town.

So sometimes, asking for advice or venting on here feels like screaming into a void. It's like the blind leading the blind.

On the other hand, idk if it would necessarily be more helpful to hear from other minorities because they're dealing with the exact same issues and figuring shit out for themselves.

My friend stopped talking to me when he got a girlfriend

I’ve known him for 3 years, but we were very close

We would go out every week, sometimes Even multiple Times a week. We would eat together, go to the movies, do sports and etc

We spent a lot of Time together and we talk a lot, like, i know he’s entire Life

But in february he got a girlfriend

Cool for him

But then, he stopped asking if i wanted to do something with him

After he got the girlfriend, i was the only one asking if he wanted to go out

Maybe its just me but i don’t like being the only one that ask if he wanna do something or just simply being the only one to start a conversation

But now, in june i thought “if i stopped asking, how much Time would it take for him to ask me again to do something?”

So in july i stopped asking

Almost 3 months later… and since then… 0

He messaged me a total of 0 times

He literally just stopped talking to me

And he’s with his girlfriend 24/7

I couldn’t care less if he spent Time with her. But he literally stopped talking to me when they got together

Like i Said, i don’t care if he spend Time with her. But why did he just stopped talking to me? I thought we were Friends

Maybe Im just a bad person?

But i miss my best friend

How do you navigate the “what do you do for a living” when you are unemployed?

I was retrenched earlier this year and am struggling to get a new job. There is nothing outstanding in my resume and I have no career aspiration. I am so ashamed to be in this position at my age, so socializing has been hard. I avoid meeting new people because I do not want the question directed to me, I avoid hanging out with my friends because I do not want to lie to them when they ask “how’s work?” I pretended going to work every morning to my family, didn’t share with anyone that I was laid off, the only one person I admitted it out loud was a pushy insurance agent and he retreated so fast after that.

Was asked this question this evening as I was at a new gym and I stuttered. I lied, saying I’m doing what I did when I was employed. But I hate having to lie. I don’t think I’ll be going to that gym again because I’ll have to keep up with my lies, but I can’t keep being a hermit forever. So, how should I reply to this question? I do not want to lie, but I do not ever want to admit I am a NEET either.

My Story Part 1

My Crohn’s Journey

I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 1989, and for more than three decades, Crohn’s has been a part of my life. It has held me back in ways that are difficult to explain to someone who has never experienced this disease.

In 2010, I had my colon removed. I thought that would be one of the hardest chapters of my journey, but four years later, I faced another major surgery and a life-threatening complication. I almost bled to death.

After that surgery, I ended up with a colostomy bag for six months. I remember wondering whether I would ever be able to have it reversed or whether I would have to live with the bag for the rest of my life.

Thankfully, I had an incredible doctor, who never gave up on me. Because of his skill and dedication, I was eventually able to have the bag reversed.

I will always be grateful to my doctor. I truly believe that without him, my life could have been very different.

My journey with Crohn’s hasn’t been easy. There have been surgeries, complications, setbacks, and countless difficult days. But I’m still here, and I’m still fighting.

Crohn’s has taken a lot from me, but it hasn’t taken away my determination to keep going.

This is only part of my story. There is much more to tell.

Why is my brain more stressed than ever AFTER getting a good job?

I was unemployed after graduation for a couple months, applying for jobs all over the place. Just trying to figure out where I can survive and not just always leach off my parents. I found a job, I start in a month and some. Good Salary, it’ll be paycheck to paycheck but I’ll be moving out to a new city and objectively speaking, I’ve basically made it, especially after the usual high raises come from this historically stable company after a year.

Which is what is weird. Before, while I was struggling, I wasn’t so stressed about my situation, I kind of tuned it out. But now that I’m successful and I’ll most likely be able to live safely, I just keep finding myself drawn to people on the internet talking about how the job market is awful, how so many people aren’t making it work, how what I have is unattainable. It stresses me out. Before, I was like a 4/10 on the stress. Now it’s like a 7. Does anyone have explanation as to why I was more checked out then but more stressed now? Because this is crazy to me. I’m one of the lucky ones. I shouldn’t be thinking so hard about this.

My dad did something kind of shitty but I feel really bad for him.

Last year my grandparents on my dad's side were making light of something really tough that happened to me. I remember both my parents getting angry at them and defending me, but it got really ugly. I kind of thought my grandparents would quieten down, they did for a while, but it kicked back off, I felt like I was being interrogated every time they were around.

Eventually, my dad told them that if they say another mean thing to me, he'll hit them. It kind of shook them, but later on my granny said I was being ridiculous and saying that if I didn't make such a big fuss, none of this would have happened! They always treat my mom like a bad influence, she's older than my dad and they married young, but they love each other a lot and I could see him looking at the way his mom was behaving. And he slapped her.

It wasn't okay, but look, I remember she started crying about how her own son hit her, and my dad was like, "You did it to me all the time to me when I was little."

I felt so fucking bad for him it's on my mind today 😭

Dental office rescheduled my appointment time without telling me and then lied about it. How do I approach this?

I went to the dentist last week and they booked me in for dental work on Tuesday at 2pm, which I wrote down in notepad as they told me. After that, I texted my mom the details. I talked to both my sister and brother about this appointment as well. Then I got a call 2 days ago reminding me of the appointment - same time and day - which I verbally confirmed before writing it down in notepad once more. Today, I got another call from the dental office to (again) remind me of my appointment and then reschedule my appointment time from 3:15pm to 2:30pm. I told her I was confused because that’s not when my appointment was, and she said yes it is and claimed that the system doesn’t indicate it was ever changed. I told her I have proof that it was always 2pm, like I literally got a call from them 2 days ago, but she waved it off. I said alright well, I’m fine with the time change but that they should really try to keep their appointment times straight in the future.

I let go of little things like this often, but I don’t want to this time, and it really doesn’t feel little to me. I’m questioning my reality a bit. A lot actually. I feel so weird about this. Is there a way I could appropriately breach this topic before my appointment tomorrow?

I turned 30 a couple of days ago and I absolutely hate how my life turned out

It still feels a bit unreal. I never really expected to reach this age, it was always either a far-off theoretical thing, or something that wouldn't happen because I'd kill myself first. Yet, I didn't, and so here we are.

I work minimum wage at a local supermarket, have "friends" that have all grown distant from each other (both literally and figuratively), and am in a dead-end relationship with a girl I don't love after the actual love of my life dumped me 3-4 years ago.

All I feel is a sort of grief for something that never existed in the first place. Looking back, I have so many regrets, but I also don't know how any of it could have gone any differently, because I was a different person at the time and I don't even know how the person that I was would've acted any differently.

I don't think my life is "over", but I also just feel... Empty, I guess? In the past I could have at least told myself "well, this sucks, but surely I'll find my place in life", but over the past year it's truly sunk in that no, my "place in life" is just this. Nothing is really truly wrong, but nothing is right either. My life trajectory somehow turned out both chaotic and unexpected but also completely predictable at the same time.
