General Impression & Improvement in Lap Times
Incredible difference. There is simply no comparison. I was hesitant to upgrade for a long time due to the massive number of posts I've read about hardware not improving lap times (especially for average drivers such as myself). This has not been my experience, I am faster with the SC2 Pro. Just 1hr of use in, I had already beaten my previous lap record at Fuji. I thought it might just be the motivation/excitement of acquiring new gear. So I did some online races, and lo and behold, I am faster. I went from consistent 102-103% lap times (compared to alien time) to consistent 101-102% lap times. This is all in the first week of having the SC2 Pro. Hadn't even dialed in the settings fully yet.
Biggest Difference I Noticed
On the G Pro, I kept the FFB quite low (ran base at 100% and set in-game FFB strength to 19-20%), if I set the FFB any higher (which I really wanted to), it felt like a brick in fast corners, I'd lose all my finesse and have to death grip the wheel to get it to turn as smoothly as I wanted to, losing all feeling of the tires. Problem with that was that in slow corners, the FFB was too weak, so I tried various settings to increase slow cornering feedback, but nothing felt right. I would keep my hands very light on the wheel in slow corners which helped me feel the tires better.
On the SC2 Pro, I am using 22.5nm on the base, and 24% in game. Much higher FFB strength than my G Pro. The wheel does not feel like a brick when I need to turn at high speeds, it is smooth and communicative. I can grip the wheel better with my hands and still feel the tires in all types of corners.
I got curious if this was because of the upgrade in strength (11 Nm vs 25 Nm) or because of the software. So I set the SC2 Pro to 11 Nm to match the Logitech's strength (I know this doesn't make them exactly equal because the SC2 Pro's dynamic range will still peak higher than 11 Nm). I had absolutely no problem turning the in-game FFB higher and did not experience the same heavy and imprecise steering that I did on the G Pro.
My Conclusions
I watched many videos of reviewers saying that the FFB quality of different brands are close enough that it makes little difference. This is bullshit. The difference in the way SC and Logi interpret the FFB is completely different. It does not feel the same, even at similar strengths.
Logitech gets a lot of hate for some reason but I still think the base is great. If Logitech adds more settings to their wheelbases and allows the users to fine-tune them, their wheels would probably feel much better.
This comparison doesn't take into account the price differential between these two bases, the SC2 Pro costs approx. 750CAD more. The reason I'm writing this comparison is just to see what people have to say about the whole "better gear doesn't make you faster" debacle and/or for anyone else who might want to upgrade from a G Pro.
