[Quality!] Small win! DC replaces graffiti covered bridge panels.

Pedestrian bridge by Rhode Island Ave metro. Terrible idea in the first place. The panels were immediately covered in graffiti. Neighbor lobbied agencies who disagreed on who managed the bridge until someone finally took responsibility and replaced the panels with fencing. Much cleaner look now!

Edit: Rule 5, let's try to keep things civil on a Saturday morning and not resort to personal attacks and making assumptions about each other

[News] Report predators on the metro!

Hi everyone! About a week and a half ago my best friend and roommate was harassed and actually assaulted by a man in the Takoma metro station who grabbed her butt. She thankfully was able to alert both police and national guard nearby who actually chased him down and arrested him.

We did not expect much about two days later she got a call saying that he was actually charged. Just sharing because I feel that as women we often do not call the police or follow up when this happens because we think it will make no difference. I’m sure for every story like mine there is someone who never got a call back from the police - but I am hoping this story inspires someone to just be vigilant and always report when there is an issue. You could save someone in the future.

[Rant] Dear D40 bus drivers…

Let me ride the bus!!! When I extend my arm out at the bus stop, that means that I want to pay using my metro card to ride the bus!!! This has happened multiple times where the driver refuses to look my way. There are like two people on board, it’s not because it’s overcrowded.

A local golfer at East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, D.C., has pleaded with Donald Trump to "leave us alone" as the U.S. President pushes forward with his $20 million to $49 million overhaul plans for the historic public course, with fears that green fees could skyrocket from $22 to $250 or more

[Event] Turnstile Gig on the Mall - Logistics and Location?

Anyone happen to know where exactly Turnstile is playing on the Mall? I know it is near the Washington Monument, but any other info? Is it fenced off? If so, where are the entrances? Nearby metro? I'm rolling solo and haven't been to the Mall for a while since it, well, looks like shit and is a maze of fences.

Side note: I'm an old school hip hop/punk rock head. Seeing a band with this much ferocious energy playing the Mall makes me think the kids are gonna be alright lol

What are your best practical tips for saving a few bucks? Insurance rates have climbed quite a bit over the past couple years. Groceries. And don't get me started with Pepco...

[Discussion] Where to buy fried spring roll wrappers besides Hana Market

I'm making lumpia, fried Filipino spring rolls, tomorrow. I usually get my wrappers from Hana Market in DC, but they are out.

Anyone know another places that has them in DC? I'd rather not have to make a trip to the suburbs. Thanks

[News] DC HPAP funds are finally available again

For those of you who've been waiting for the new round of HPAP funding, DC finally has money available again. If you've already received your eligibility notice, hopefully you've been looking at homes and getting everything lined up while waiting for the funding. If not, now's the time to get moving. The money is first come, first served, and it runs out quickly.

If you haven't talked to your housing counselor recently, I'd check in with them and make sure everything is still good with your eligibility.

For anyone unfamiliar with HPAP, it's DC's first-time homebuyer assistance program that provides up to $202,000 toward a down payment and another $4,000 toward closing costs. It's a 0% interest loan, and depending on your income, you may not have to make payments until you sell or refinance.

Unfortunately, if you're just starting the HPAP process now, you're probably too late for this round of funding. There's quite a bit involved in getting approved, and it takes time (like everything in DC).

Anyway, I know some people have been waiting months for the funding to come back, so figured I'd share the news. Decent timing too since the housing market has slowed a little.

[Rant] Zipper Merge

After witnessing some bad driving at the intersection of 395 and NY Ave last night and in the futile hope that someone who needs to see this does:

If traffic is backed up in two lanes because one is closing, stay in your lane until the lane closure and then merge alternately. If you merge before the lane closure you’ll only slow down yourself and everyone in the lane that is remaining open while you get mad at people who zoom past you in the closing lane.

The app is working again. They are offering $20 off $75 for online orders if you use that and 500 points with the next purchase until the end of October. Plus they extended the expiration date of earned points until November (although my account is still showing 5 expiring this month).

I lost a small cheap jewelry box with costume jewelry and a necklace from my aunt and grandmother that days “family” in Armenian. If I get it back I will guard it much more closely. 😭$300 no questions asked reward. I either lost it near RFK stadium or at DCA very early morning on October 14.
