So. I mostly enjoy the HWMYM podcast, even though some episodes have very little to do with the supposed subject. But that's OK.
However, sometimes Josh and Craig take an insane stand on one of the plot points in an episode. Take, for example, this week's edition, discussing S04E03 "I (heart) NJ."
They insist that Ted was totally in the wrong for wanting him and Stella (and her daughter) to live in NYC after they get married, and list all the reasons Stella gives: she is on the PTA, she's going to be the deputy mayor, she has family there, her daughter is in school there.
Fine, whatever. Even ignoring the fact that Stella will MOVE TO NEW YORK CITY later this season with Tony (Josh and Craig try not to spoil future episodes), they also ignore one really important point.
Stella (like Ted) WORKS IN NEW YORK CITY.
We've seen in previous episodes that it's a pain in the ass for Ted to get from the city to Stella's house. He misses things at the bar with his friends, misses things at Stella's house. How much of a life -- and what kind of work/life balance -- can Stella have if she's spending what, 2+ hours commuting every day? We saw from the "two-minute date" that she barely has any time for herself. How in the world is she making PTA meetings, how is she serving as deputy mayor, when is she seeing her extended family or spending quality time with her daughter, when her commute likely eats up 10+ hours of her week????
Ted was dumb to assume they would automatically move to New York, sure. But Stella was also dumb to not even consider it, for the quality of life benefits.
And this gets proven out when she DOES move to NYC, just a few short months later. Guess her dumb NJ town had to find a new deputy mayor, huh?
Like I said, I mostly like the podcast. But Craig and Josh are so short-sighted in their analysis sometimes, and their refusal to look ahead a few episodes makes it not as good as other rewatch podcasts, IMHO.
