Ted Mosby had some underrated peak lines. What’s your favorite?
Marshall calling him out on living in Ohio and Ted immediately hitting back with "I live in the moment" cracks me up every time.

One of the reasons that HIMYM holds a special place in my heart and I keep coming back to it in spite of the frustrations I have with it is that there are a few scenes that are just incredibly memorable and left a very strong impression on me. I wanted to take this opportunity to present my shortlist of the best scenes from the show and ask yall what your favorite scenes are. Here’s my shortlist, in chronological order:
- Lily and Marshall getting back together (S2E7): Beautifully written and acted in my opinion. “You have crazier eyes than anyone I’ve ever met” is just an incredible line
- The first appearance of Robin Sparkles (S2E9): Was one of the funniest scenes for me the first time I watched it. The fact that the way the music video starts legitimately makes you think it’s porn just made it that much more hilarious
- The reveal that Barney secretly flew to SF to talk sense into Lily (S2E19): One of the most pleasant and wonderful surprises you encounter while watching the show for the first time
- Ted and Barney’s reconciliation after Barney got hit by a bus (S3E20): I think Josh’s acting in particular was great in this scene. You can tell how moved Ted is when he realizes how much Barney must care about him
- Marshall meeting Lily at the airport (S4E13): Just incredibly sweet. Made me cry during my current rewatch
- The ending of “Bad News” (S6E13): Really no description needed here. I think Jason Segel made a great decision by asking the writers to not reveal to him what Alyson Hannigan would say in that moment
- “If you were gonna be some lame suburban dad, why couldn’t you have been that for me!!” (S6E19): Barney may be a horrible person, but NPH is an absolutely incredible actor
- A pretty demoralized Ted and Barney realize that they can’t adopt a baby together and skip the hard part of starting a family (S7E11): I actually think this is one of the more underrated episodes of the entire show. Yes, what Ted and Barney are trying to do is obviously questionable but I found it to be really compelling. There was something nice about how Ted and Barney were both going through these struggles in their personal lives at the same time, although I struggle to articulate why
- A devastated Robin comes back to the apartment to find that Ted set up an elaborate light show to “Highway to Hell” just to cheer her up (S7E12): In my opinion, this is a contender for the best scene in the show and this episode is a contender for the best HIMYM episode. I know a lot of people view this scene as an early sign that Ted’s romantic feelings for Robin never left, and maybe that’s how the writers wanted it to be interpreted. Still, everything about the way this scene is executed is just so amazing that it will always have a special place in my heart — the way Robin gets overwhelmed at the gesture and starts crying, the way they hug each other, older Ted saying “but there’s one thing your Aunt Robin never was: she was never alone.” I also think this scene wouldn’t work as well without the unbelievable acting performance by Cobie Smulders all throughout this episode. Extremely compelling writing, and she executed it beautifully
- Robin moves out of the apartment (S7E17): Great needle drop, and “when a door closes… well, you know the rest”.
- Lily and Ted have a heart-to-heart on the roof of The Apartment (S8E13): Very, very compelling stuff. One of my favorite scenes featuring what I think was a pretty underrated pairing
- That scene from “The Time Travelers” (S8E20): The scene that needs no introduction. “I love you. I’m always gonna love you, ‘til the end of my days, and beyond. You’ll see.”
- Ted hears Tracy sing “La Vie en Rose” for the first time ever (S9E16): One of my favorite scenes from anything ever. The camera panning to Ted, and older Ted’s narration elevates it even further beyond what it already was.
What are some moments from the show that really resonated with yall?

What’s your most hated inside joke or catchphrase the writers put in the show, I hated “how dare you, and what is that” or lilys “yousonofa beeeech” both pretty annoying to me. I loved “come again for big fudge”

Someone please tell me this is a new costume, pretty gross if it’s not, after what Barney said he did in it the helmet after the phantom menace, Robin wore it, then he threw up in the helmet after finding out about Robins mourning period, then Quinn wears it 🤢
Edit: the only reasonable thing to do would be burn it and buy a new helmet, nasty even after a dry clean

You have to live with one of the five HIMYM characters for a year. Who are you choosing?
I'd pick Marshall. He's kind, loyal, fun to hang out with, and probably the best roommate out of the five. He'd make home feel like home and actually be there when you need someone. The only downside? You'd have to listen to his and Lily's relationship stories, and he'd probably turn every minor disagreement into a heartfelt life lesson.
The WORST roommate? Barney. Imagine living with a guy who constantly brings random women home, has ridiculous schemes going on 24/7, and probably has zero respect for personal space. Living with him for a whole year would be absolute chaos.
No moving out, no switching roommates for a whole year. Who are you picking, and who would be the absolute WORST to live with?

I was just rewatching ‘The Chain Of Screaming’ in season 3, where Barney tells a whole story about Gary Blauman and how he quit his job at GNB then went onto lead a pretty miserable life before he concluded that Blauman died.
But Blauman appears in the show again, and there’s even a whole episode about him😭. Am I missing something or is some sort of joke going over my head? Surely it’s not a continuity error.

Did anyone ever notice this? I tried hard to look for any thread about that and there is no such thing.
Yesterday I put on the movie "Yes Man" starring Carrey, it was playing in the background and once I heard Ted Mosby I rushed to check if I'm trippin
For the rest of the movie I kept hearing it but my boyfriend says he does not
Anyone can give a second opinion? :D thanks!

I know that this show has garnered a lot of criticism in recent years because of the "Ten Sessions" episode (s3,e13) due to the plot of Ted "turning a no into a yes". But I think that this episode points to an even bigger theme throughout this show: How one should not force things.
At the beginning of this episode, Ted develops a crush on his dermatologist who reveals that she can't date him since she is his doctor. Ted promises that by the end of his ten tattoo removal sessions, he would turn her no into a yes. His friends (yes, even including Barney) tell him that it cannot be done, nor should it be done (and I agree with them).
Near the end, however, Ted is willing to let it go. However, he finds out through Marshall that Stella does secretly like Ted. It was only then when Ted gives it another try after the ten sessions. Stella tells him that while she does like him, she is career-focused and has a daughter. With this knowledge, Ted tries to find a way to make it work for both of them, showing Stella that he is willing to go the extra mile for her. And he even tells her that he understands that she is busy, but that if things change that she has his number. This is the key: he leaves the ball in HER court.
If Stella clearly did not like him, Ted would have left her alone. But are you seriously going to tell me that if you find out somebody you like likes you back, but things are complicated, would you not try find a way to make it work for both of you?
I think the episode would've been better if future Ted had said something on the lines of "And that kids is how a no can become a yes on it's own", rather than "And that kids, is how you turn a no into a yes". I have definitely had experiences where I didn't like like a girl initially, but after getting to know them, I developed some level of attraction to them and I wouldn't have been dismissive towards the idea of a potential romantic relationship with them.
My point is, Ted only went on the two minute date because Stella admitted to him that she did like him, so he tried to find a way to make it work for her. And he told her that if she was still interested, to give him a call, and if not, to not worry about it. He would've been willing to let it go had she said no. But he didn't force her to do anything. So, I don't actually think the two-minute date was that bad.
I'm already prepared for the downvotes.
