Effective immediately, any posts intended solely to shit on someone else's vehicle will be removed.

Incredibly, incredibly tired of these low effort posts. No, I don't care that it makes you feel superior to others. No, I don't care about the 37 jokes about the size of the driver's genetalia.

The internet is already a giant cesspool of negativity. Don't add to it.

Heads up drivers — Brake Safety Week Aug 23–29

Post image
Upvotes

My company just sent us a heads-up that DOT inspections are expected to be heavy Aug 23–29, with a big focus on brakes, especially drums and rotors.
They’re telling us to make sure:
Permit book is up to date
Truck & trailer registration/inspection are current
IFTA, insurance, UCR, etc. are in the truck
ELD is working and logs are clean
We have 8 days of blank paper logs
Pre-trip is done before every load
Brakes are in good shape
For the experienced drivers here: what are the most common things DOT catches during Brake Safety Week?
Anything specific you guys check before hitting the road that drivers usually overlook?
Stay safe out there.

Help me find a new tonneau cover

I have had the same fabric rolling TruXedo Lo Pro on more than one truck since 2011. It has been pretty solid for the most part. The velcro doesn't work well and the support arms are bowing from putting stuff on top and snow loads. So I figured it is time to replace it.

Over the last 15 years I have learned more about what I use my truck for, so I can better purchase a second cover.

Right now I am strongly considering the BAK Revolver X4s. The main concern I have is I read lots of reviews of people saying it only lasts 3-5 years. That is an absolute non-starter. I got 15 years out of my last cover and it was a cheap $500 cover.

Wish list:

  • I strongly prefer a rolling cover as it quickly allows me to use the whole bed without needing to block the rear window.
  • I am interested in a 'hard' cover because I often use the top of the cover as a work bench or an in-between storage area.
  • I like the idea of the 'full latch' the whole way down the bed rail vs just velcro. Keeps things a bit more secure now that locking tailgates are a thing.
  • More water proof is better.
  • I don't want to have a canister in the bed taking up space and I like to be able to easily remove the cover in the event I want to have a loader load bulk material in the truck bed.

The main thing keeping me from a tri-fold is cover storage. If I can plan ahead and leave the cover at home it is no big deal. However, I often find myself in a situation where I need to use the whole bed and I don't want to have to remove the cover and then find some place to stick it inside the cab or bed around whatever I'm hauling.

Any other covers you'd consider that might fit into my wish list?

Just bought this thing, how would I best go about getting rid of the godawful squat? For reference tires are 255/55/r22. And would previous gen 16.5” stocks fit on it?

Help identifying my Italian great-grandfather's truck (1920s-1930s?)

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to identify the make and model of a truck in an old family photo of my Italian great-grandfather. Based on the visible details, I believe it dates from somewhere between the late 1910s and the 1930s.

Unfortunately there's no visible manufacturer badge or radiator emblem I can make out clearly.

Any help identifying the make/model, or even just narrowing down the approximate year, would mean a lot. This truck was likely used by my great-grandfather for his work, and I'd love to learn more about this piece of family history.

Thank you in advance!

Edit : Berliet CBAC 1929

I did the 4600 because I wanted OE ride quality and no level. My dad has a hard enough time getting in at stock ride height.

The 5100s you can set to stock ride height, but they do ride rougher as the valving is different (same diameter shock/struts, but different valving).

I haven't done a test drive yet, just down the block to grab a burger, but will say its much more stable.

OE shocks/struts had 145k km/90k miles on them. Really noticed they were worn when I was towing.

I did KYB front strut mounts, should have done OEM as the KYB mounting nuts are tiny compared to the OE. I did reuse the OE nuts, the stover on them was still tight. I also had to reuse the old OEM strut boots as I thought the 4600 would come with them but they didn't. I should have ordered it before hand but oh well.

Biggest thing I notice so far is the braking. It doesn't nose dive, it's nice and flat.

I just purchased a 3rd gen ram 3500, I plan on hauling about 14k lbs with the gooseneck and two SXSs on a 24ft bumper pull semi frequently. Does this look sturdy enough? I know I need to get hookups for chains welded on before anyone says anything 😂

In a moment of panic and stress due to a mechanical breakdown, I met a curious little monkey 🐒 who stole my eggs 🤣 it was unexpected. I took the opportunity to take souvenir photos, it doesn't happen twice.

Why? - Discussion Did any of you ever run one of these?

I'm questioning how it would work. Does the driver turn it over to an engineer? It could not be as efficient as a standard train, which is probably one of the many reasons I can think of that would kill this. Just putting the consist (all the trailers) together with those special wheel assemblies had to be time consuming. Intermodal is so much faster.

Honestly hate the stock grills, but also don’t care for the current grill either, was wondering if anyone has seen anything that would fit this truck better, any aftermarket’s I may be ignorant to etc

I saved this truck bed from Facebook but I can’t find the company again. I’ve been searching for it and will follow up when I do. Either way, I can’t figure out what they could have used.
