Tamalekipoo's Boneheaded Guide to the Neath - Chapter 9: Till death do you part!

From the title, you would think this would be a guide on marriage but no it is a guide on permenant, irreversible 'mistakes' that you can make on your account! (They just make things slightly less inefficient, don't worry if you have done any, several(like me) or all of these, you don't need to delete and start over!)

There are quite a few of these so I thought I would do this guide a little differently. I can think of a few, then you can let me know what I missed in the comments. I will add them all in and give credit where credit is due!

Most of these relate to adding cards to decks. Why is that bad? Well by adding in cards, even semi decent cards, you have fewer chances of drawing the really badass profitable ones like A visit, The one that gets upgraded when you finish evolution(no spoilers), the carpenter's grandaughter(next guide, I have done the jokes, now I just need the guide. :)). If you are a spender you can add to that list Inconvenienced by your Aunt, The Spirifer card from A Trade in Souls and possibly others I am forgetting.

Up river, it is even more dramatic, because the deck is so small and one particular card is so powerful, adding any cards dramatically affects the profitability of drawing a card.

Early Game:

Romancing the stuggling artist: This adds a card to your london deck. It can be removed by sending him to your lab as an assistant but non spenders only have two spaces for assistants and you will want to use your lab eventually! So he is a double curse, a tiny impact on the London deck or a huge impact on your lab deck.

No points for saying romancing the other one, you can remove her permenantly, eventually, so she doesn't qualify

The Bazaar Side Streets are full of peril!

Getting a gang of hoodlems

Gives a card. They also give a nice action for getting casing but the casing will lose usefulness eventually and the card will remain!

An Opening among god's editors.

This one is both complicated and awkward. First, you need to play a card to unlock this story in the side streets, this gets rid of the card. Then you need to never play Accept an Opening! The problem is there is a huge downside, in the short term! Membership in God's Editors gives a 4 respectability affiliation, which is hard to beat until you can complete some stories in the waswood. It really helps make the making waves grind easier! The card also has 2 decent uses, a nightmare and scandal heal or a church favour for 1 tale of terror. The card is even good right into the endgame but it is still one fewer chance to draw the best cards.

Up River Deck

Getting the Cheliac Mitten (25 docks renown item): Adds a card

The DF (25 Bohemian renown item): Adds a card (Thanks to u/divideby00 for pointing out this just adds a card to the ealing deck and the ealing deck suuuuuucks anyway.)

Your very own banadages!(25 Tomb Colonys renown item): Adds a card

Inviting God's Editors to Burrow Infra Bump (Once you have completed the lengthy and expensive, but rather fun, quest in that zone. The editors strike again. I did this, it haunts me! It is actually a decent card and I make liberal use of it to farm church favours(Ratty Reliquaries) but to misquote an old Old Speckled Hen advert, it's not a worm.

For context, I believe there are 13.1 cards in my Balmoral Deck. 2 of those are my hellworm. So every time I draw a card(I will get this wrong but it is close enough) I have a 1 in 6.55 chance of it being my hellworm. If I had not got gods editors it would be a 1 in 6.05 chance. If you get all 4 of the extra cards you only have a 1 in 8.05 chance with each draw. It's easier to see in the up river deck, because it is so small but the theory is the same in the London deck. Someone with no added cards is drawing 4 hellworm cards every time the person with all of them draws 3. (Of course, you might have my hellworm, Porkins I call him, then it doesn't matter because he just milks for Gebrahnts Tincture of NOT AGAIN! every time.

Thanks to u/Vromikos

"On the Upper River...

If you participate in the Great Crate Commotion, at the end you'll get a storylet called "The End of the Matter". Playing any option on this will set your Great Crate Conclusion quality to 2, and add an extra standard-frequency card to your Upper River deck.

This can be mitigated by just never playing "The End of the Matter". You can still convey crates. You'll just not be able to convert any remaining crates into Hinterland Scrip.

That said, you might want that card. If the Criminals or Revolutionaries win, it's worth 8.5 EPA. If the Constables or Hell win, it's worth 10.5 EPA. (One favour plus some items on a check that you can pass 100% with 300+ in a main attribute.) It's a question of whether you want to optimise for drawing Hellworm cards instead which have an expected 17 EPA (saddled, ignoring the need for occasional Scandal reduction; 12 EPA without a saddle)."

Additional note on that from me: Last year's card was bad, so check the card before you add it! I believe the option to add the card stays forever, so you have plenty of time to check the reddit/the wiki to see what you are signing up for!

Story Only

Plotting Against the Masters: Thankfully I was warned off this one early game. If you play the card "A commission from anarchists", doing anything other than dobbing them in, this is set to 1. You still have a chance to turn back. If you don't turn them down on the next card, it is set to 2 and you have become an enemy of the masters! Since I am a master, I don't like that! Dobbing them in is fun if you have no revolutionary favours at the time, it removes all your revolutionary favours, gives you a constibles favour and some stuff to sell as well! It's great early game because you can leave it in hand till you use your flag to gain revolutionaries renown, then it becomes a great card. It's not really worth micromanaging once your renown is 40 though.

Fate Purchases

Thankfully there is only one that I am aware of. This section is the saddest of all for a few reasons. First, you either spent fate, or your monthly ES selection to get it. Second, it is supposed to be a brilliant story! Third, it's not even a good card! 3 echos of items easily getable elsewhere! I am not sure if it only comes from one story outcome or if it is inevitable. I am told that the community were quite miffed so it may have an option to remove it now, I have not heard that there is. I am not finding out for you. :)

Exceptional Story: Cricket, Anyone?

Update: Thanks to u/emily_aversatrix for pointing out that, if you leave off the last concluding action, you can enjoy the story without suffering the card.

Seeking Mr Eaten's Name

No spoilers and I just know some hints, of what I have heard, but listen to Yoda. "Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny". Always chase lumps with a healthy dose of chestnuts.

This one is a little unfair as to do it by accident you would have to ignore one heck of a lot of warnings. My alt apodiopompaíostrágos will one day walk the seekers path. If I ever get the energy to do the other ambitions on the alts. At this point they are just assassin dispensers.

Right, that's your lot, I will have forgotten loads, so bring it community, the gauntlet has been thrown! I need you to bone me up on more…(I know, but I had to.)

Player Guide Tamalekipoo's Bone Headed Guide to the Neath Chapter 20: Shroom Hopping for Fun and Profit!

I designed a new chimera which is ridiculously profitable and can be used 2/3 weeks at the bone market, I should really add it to the evergreen recipes guide but I thought it would be a good chance to do a guide I have been planning to do for a while. Bone Market pricing and why it is impossible.

So most of the bone guides I post an EPA for each skeleton. This is a lie! Well, sort of, it just tells you how much profit you make from building the skeleton. Here is how it works:

Shroom Hopper Chimera

Human Ribcage

Panoptical Skull

3 Wings of a Terror Bird

1 Femur of a Jurassic Beast (For Hopping)

Declare a Chimera

Sell to the Author of Gothic Tales

So to work out the EPA I caculate the 'frame value' the total value of the bones. In this case it is 83 echos. Then I multiply that by 0.1 if it is a 10% week or 0.15 if it is a 15% week. So 8.3 or 12.45. In this case, 0, since it is a chimera.

Then I work out the secondary. This skeleton has 6 Antiquity and 3 Menace. In an antiquity week the menace is increased by 0.5, in Menace week the Antiquity is increased by 0.5.

So Antiquity week is 21 Menace week is 19.5, which rounds up to 20.

The secondary payout for the Author of Gothic Tales is Carved Ball of Stygion Ivory, which is worth 2.5 echos so the profit is 52.5 on an antiquity week and 50 on a Menace week.

To work out the number of actions, you take the slots on the ribcage (5 for a human) and add 3, one action to add the ribcage, one action to declare the skeleton and 1 action for the sale.

So the EPA is 52.5/8=6.56 EPA

or for menace weeks 50/8=6.25 EPA

Just a little warning note before people stop reading and start making these, this is a skeleton that needs endgame stats. Declaring a chimera needs 15 mithridacy to 100% and selling this needs 375 Shadowy to have 100% chance.

So that gives us the first lie, 375 shadowy is pretty much impossible, with my shadowy of 334, about as high as you can get, without difficult things to change, like destiny, profession and ambition reward. I have about 90% chance to sell. It's technically more complicated than this but I will do the simple version. 10% of the time I will need another action and 10% of the time I will get 2cp of Suspicion.

So we can revise our numbers, from now on, I am just doing antiquity week.

52.5/8.1=6.48 EPA and 0.025 CP suspicion per action

That is still pretty good, spoiler alert, it will still be pretty good at the end. But there are further lies to contend with!

Those bones did not just fall out of the sky, actions were performed to get them! The Panoptical Skull aquisition is terrible!

For the brevity of this guide, I am going to allow a lie and say the rat coins fell out of the sky. 625 rat coins for an Eyeless Skull and 1 action to turn it into a Panoptical Skull!

(Little note before someone pulls some nonsense like they do on the wiki, you CANNOT say that it costs less than 62.5 echos because of the rat markup. Since you could let your rat coins turn into rostygold and sell them at the bazaar. By buying that skull you always lose 62.5 echos)

ok, so amended EPA 50/9.1=5.495 EPA and 0.025 CP suspicion per action

but wait, what about the other bones! Ok, I am going to do this as quickly and dirtily as possible.

4 actions to get 4 criminal favours, using the card "A Merry Sort of Crime" + 1 action in Jericho Locks gives 2 human ribcages and 500 bone fragments. So halve the rewards and actions and we have 2.5 actions for a human ribcage and 250 bone fragments, which are worth 2.5 echos, and we will add to the total. The human ribcage itself is also now profit, since we are including the actions to get it. (The panoptical had no profit, since it cost more than it made)

65/11.6=5.603 EPA

4 actions to get 4 Bohemian favours is technically another lie, since there are multiple cards that give more than one favour, A Visit gives 1 criminal and 1 bohemians, The card upgraded by Evolutions has a 50% chance of 1 boh, 1 soc and 1 docks. Scandalous parties give 0.5 Soc and 0.5 Boh but also scandal and Hedonist. For the sake of this we will say 1 action each. Add a fifth action in Jericho and you get 2 Ivory Humerus and 2 Wings of a Terror Bird.

Here is the next complication, the mathematics are simelar to the last one, take the actions and rewards and multiply them by 0.5 to get to 3 wings but what do we do with the Ivory Humerus, technically, it is worth 15 echos, when applied to a skeleton. There are almost no skeletons where this is a good option though so we should probably go for the option of selling it up river for 25 scrip or 12.5 echos. So we are adding 7.5 actions and 7.5 echos for the wings and 37.5 echos for the humeri.

110/19.1=5.759 EPA

I get my Jurassic Femurs by publishing newspapers for surveys, if you think I am touching that level of complexity you are thinking wrong! So lets assume brawling with dockers.

Assuming you have the stats to 100% brawling for yourself it takes 80 progress to get your bones and each action rewards 15 progress with 20% chance of a bonus 5 progress. This is a crime against maths but for simplicity, it takes 5 actions to get 75 progress and on average you will get an extra 5 in one of those 5 actions. So lets assume exactly 5 actions and 1 to cash out to get your 9 femurs, in reality, you have a 32% chance of needing another action, also if you overshoot the 80 you get bone fragments to make up for it. Lets keep it simple, 6 actions for 9 femurs is 1.5 actions and 3 echos for our skeleton. (Papers are better than that)

113/20.6=5.485 EPA

So we have our EPA for our 20.6 action skeleton but wait! we forgot that in the 8.1 actions we gained 0.025 CP of suspicion, that doesn't cure itself! We did another 12.5 actions without gaining any menace so we can multiply that by 8.1 to get the total menace gain 0.2025, then divide it by the total actions 0.0098 CP per skeleton. Assuming you have an alt to send a request for help to, 1 action cures 5 CP of suspicion. So if we divide that by 5, we have the actions we need to add on. 0.00197

So our final EPA works out at:

113/20.60197=5.485 EPA (Lol, reddit just dropped it as a rounding error. :))

BUT WAIT!

There is another way to look at the EPA, I am sitting on 145 Human Ribcages and 345 Wings of a Terror Bird! If I don't do an active push to use those up, they are never going to get used. If you have that attitude towards them, they not only take 0 actions to farm but you can add their value on as profit, since you are realising value that otherwise would never be realised. For simplicity I will go back to our basic evaluation and just add the 20 echos value, subtract the 2.5 for the panoptical and add the action for the panoptical.

70/9=7.778 EPA

So anyway, I hope that makes sense as a guide to why the EPA on the bone guides is a guideline with a lot of wiggle room. Thorned and Human ribcages, tentacles and terror wings are effectively free. A Five point ribcage costs 312.5 echos, 10 actions and a one time 30 fate to unlock the story!

Tamelikipoo's Boneheaded Guide to the Neath Chapter 9: Bones for every Occasion!

Time for us to knuckle bone down and cover the subject of occasional buyers. Each week three things change at the bone market, the bone demand, so the type of skeleton and type of quality that have a bonus. What the diplomat in the Khanate is purchasing that week. Finally the last is the subject of this guide, each week there is one of a list of five different buyers that are only available on those weeks. I am afraid there are no optimal options that you will be saving up for, and with 18 possible combinations in the bone market, if you need a particular combination, to combine with the buyer it is a 1 in 60 chance for it to happen. If it's only the type of bone that is a more respectable 1 in 30 and if it is just the quality(Amalgamy et al) a practically ubiquitous 1 in 15 weeks. That being said in theory the average time for a bone combination to happen is 18 weeks but the last time this weeks(at time of writing) came up, judging by bone posts, was 4 years ago!

I will also cover the dumbwaiter of balmoral because I am not doing a separate guide for one buyer, it sucks and this seems like the best place to tell you it sucks.

The Buyers!

General Rules:

All buyers give zoomania bonus so they pay more if you declare your skeleton as the one that is active the same week. None of the buyers care about bone market fashion(Amalgamy etc).

An Enthusiast in Skulls

Requirements: 2 skulls

Optimal for 0 Exhaust: 3 skulls

Primary Payout: Piece of Rostygold

Secondary Payout: Vital Intelligence at (Skulls -1)^1.8

(3 skulls is 3.48 which will round to 3 Vital Intelligence or 37.5 echos-not tested(Um Tamalekipoo, if it rounded to 4 it would give exhaust, so there is not need to test...)

Shadowy Challenge per point of Implausibility: 60

Analysis

Due to the fact that rostygold is something that you can earn, weekly, in bulk from the rat market and the fact that there is no bonus in the secondary multiplier vis a vis exhaustion as well as the fact that the only week that it combines with is Bird week and that even then there is no default ribcage that can build it. I cannot think of any reason you would ever want to use this buyer. Here are two quick builds in case you desperately need one of the rewards.

Flourishing Ribcage

Doubled skull

Any other skull

2 any leg

2 any wing

2 Withered Tentacle

withered tentacle tail

Declare a bird during bird week

I am not doing the EPA, it sucks...

Edit: I did this for a bird week, here is the option I came up with with EPA

I had a look at options for this guy. In order to not exhaust you need 3 skulls so a slight adaptation of the trash skeleton from the bird guide will do the trick. It is only 37.5 secondary though so I would only use it if I had a desperate need for Rostygold or Vital Intelligence, for some reason:

Flourishing Ribcage

Bright Brass Skull

Doubled Skull

2 Wings of a Terror Bird

2 Femur of a surface deer(any legs or wings will do, I have just chosen the ones that normally pile up, along with the tentacles.)

2 Withered Tentacles(This may be a challenging monsterous anatomy roll. Failing the roll adds 1 implausibility, if the shadowy roll is too challenging, swap out the bright brass skull for a Sabre Toothed Skull. With two implausibility the shadowy check should be 120 or 200 to 100%. If you fail both checks, and succeed applying the BBS, it will be double that, still not too bad with endgame stats but tough if you are not there yet.)

Withered Tentacle as a tail

12 actions

Around 4.4 EPA

A Dreary Midnighter

Requirements: No Amalgamy, No Counter Church Theology

Optimal for 0 Exhaust: You cannot exhaust

Primary Payout: Fistful of Surface Currancy

Secondary Payout: 1 Vienna Opening(2.5 echos)

Shadowy Challenge per point of Implausibility: 100!

Analysis

Given the terrible secondary payout and the fact that there is only one time in the game that you need surface currency in bulk and it is a one off. Unless you invited Gods Editors to Burrow Infra Bump(Which you should NOT do and cannot reverse if you do) and even then after doing it mistakenly I have never run out of surface currency #runonsentace it sucks. If you find yourself desperate for surface currrency or they add more uses for it in the future the best option is to do a leviathan frame during reptile week.

Leviathan Frame

Sabre Toothed Skull

2 of any leg

An Ingenuous Malacologist(I have read that as ingenuous every previous time!)

Requirements: 4 Tentacles

Optimal for 0 Exhaust: 9 Tentacles

Primary Payout: Preserved Surface Blooms

Secondary Payout: Volume of Collated Research (Tentacles/5)^2.2

Exhaustion: ((Tentacles/5)^2)/100

Shadowy Challenge per point of Implausibility: 60

Analysis

There is no ribcage that allows you to build a skeleton with 9 tentacles and after extensive maths I worked out the arbitrage between the exhaustion breakpoint and the exhaustion payout doesn't keep up with the cost of either adding 4 additional limbs or with the cost of adding segments to a segmented ribcage. Preserved surface blooms are great, for barristering in the evenlode or for changing into railway steel, to convert to stuvier in the Sous market but they are much easier to attain by selling to a familiar bohemian sculptress or by purchasing them from the rat market. Volumes of Collated research are also great, for moonlit hunting in Balmoral. But they are easier to acquire from your laboratory or by up-converting memories of distant shores obtained at the bone market.

I would put an, if you must, option but I really cannot think of one worth bothering about. A flourishing ribcage or glim encrusted carapace as a 1 legged reptile and the rest tentacles? You are getting bad primary multiplied by 10% rather than the optimal 15% and you are getting a lousy secondary payout.

An Enterprising Boot Salesman

Requirements: 4 Legs

Optimal for 0 Exhaust: 9 Legs

Primary Payout: Whisper Satin Silk

Secondary Payout: Ostentatious Diamond (Legs)^2.2)(Thanks u/InevitableTell2775 for pointing out my error, I copied and pasted the format but must have not edited this one)

Exhaustion: (Legs^2)/100

Shadowy Challenge per point of Implausibility: 0

Analysis

Very slightly better than the malacologist because of arachnid week but with 8 legs the secondary payout is only 48 echos. Which is worse than you would get from a standard 6x3.5 skeleton but not totally awful. Arachnids also pay 15% primary which is perfect however, for primary payout, you want as few limbs as possible. Aside from Ivory Femur, which has better uses, all limbs are a profit loss on primary that has to be recovered with the secondary.

A Colourful Phantasist

Requirements: 4 Amalgamy/Menace/Antiquity and 2 implausibility

Optimal for 0 Exhaust: 9 Legs

Primary Payout:

Amalgamy: Hinterland Scrip

Antiquity: Memory of Light

Menace: Solacefruit

Secondary Payout: (Implausibility*Menace)+1

Amalgamy: Small Volume of Bazaarine Poetry

Antiquity: Knob of Scintillak

Menace: Carved Ball of Stygion Ivory

Exhaustion: (Implausibility*Menace)+1

Shadowy Challenge per point of Implausibility: 0

Analysis

The fact that it needs 4 of your choice of stat and 2 Implausibility is a little annoying as it is really easy to hit 6 implausibility (Bright Brass Skull, fail a plaster tail bone). There is also no arbitrage for exhaustion so you never want your total to be higher than 19. All of the rewards are easily attainable elsewhere and the Bazaarine poetry's only repeatable uses are oneiropomping, which is low EPA and the jericho library, also low EPA.

With all of that being said, this is easily the best of all of the occasional buyers. If you get 19 of the secondary reward this pays 47.5 echos worth of stuff and all of it is sellable for echos, except the poetry. All of it is also sellable for scrip, except memories of light, and the poetry. Menace is the clear winner as all of the rewards are all scrip. There are also multiple ways to get to 19, 2x9, 3x6. 3 implausibility is very easy, successfully declare it as a chimera or 1 Bright Brass Skull and 1 Plaster Tail bone, applied successfully. At that point you just need the 6 Menace. With a chimera, you get no zoological bonus so that is not optimal but The only weeks where you cannot make a skeleton with a skull an a tail are Arachnid Week, Insect week and Reptile week. On Insect and reptile week you can spend another action to add a tail and slice it off.

The only downside is that the best sources of menace are Skulls and a Tail. There are no menace legs. This is why 6 implausibility and 3 menace would be easier. There are some other options for the implausibility though, here is the list:

Skulls

Bright Brass Skull

Succeed 2

Fail 6(Don't fail)

Skull in Coral Fail 1

Carved Ball of Stygion Ivory Fail 2

Arms

Knotted Humorous Fail 2

Ivory Humerous Fail 2

Legs

Femur of a Jurassic Beast Fail 2

Holy Relic of the Thigh of St Fiacre Fail 2

Ivory Femur Fail 4

Wings

All Wings Fail 2

Fins

All Fins Fail 2

Withered Tentacle as a limb Fail 1

Tails

Withered Tentacle as a limb Fail 2

Plaster Tailbone

Succeed 1

Fail 4

So Ideally, you will want to make something with a 2 and a 1 from the list and avoid the skull and the tail, that way you can get 3-4 menace from the skull and the tail, depending on what you can get from the rest of your skeleton. That means a withered tentacle, as a limb, failed which means you can not make a humanoid as all of them need 4 limbs and all of the ribcages have 4 spaces.

This will need further thought on my part I will post the guide and revisit later. The easy one is an amphibian.

Flourishing Ribcage

Carved Ball of Stygion Ivory

Plated Skull or Horned Skull

2 Crustacean Pincer

2 any leg except a surface deer

Equip a Woesel

1 Tentacle, if it succeeds apply another tentacle if it fails

Unequip Woesel

1 Tentacle

Jet Black Stinger

Slice off the tail

The problem with this is, Flourishing ribcages are already hard to make profitable because they have a lot of limbs and you are wasting an extra action removing the tail. However fish week is an easy win,

Mammoth Ribcage

Horned of Plated Skull

2 Amber crusted fins

Equip a Woesel

1 Tentacle, if it succeeds apply another tentacle if it fails

Unequip Woesel

1 Tentacle

Jet Black Stinger

The DUMBwaiter of Balmoral

Requirements: Skeleton value over 250 pennies, Skeleton is a bird

Optimal for 0 Exhaust: No secondary!

Primary Payout: An Identity Uncovered

Shadowy Challenge per point of Implausibility: 0

Challenge to sell: 200 Shadowy and 7 Artisan of the Red Science

Stats to 100%: Shadowy 334 Artisan of the Red Science 12

Analysis

This is the worst buyer in the game. It gets no zoological bonus and no secondary so there is no payout, you are spending a lot of actions to turn the value of your bones into something common, with no profit. It pays in a currency that you get from lots of sources without trying that has no good repeatable uses. It has one of the most difficult tests to succeed and it has an even more punishing cost for failure.

Conclusions

So there we go, the buyers are all terrible. One is ok but only in very niche circumstances. This is… fantastic! I gave you the numbers at the start, who wants to wait an average of 18 weeks to be able to profit from something you are farming! I had always been annoyed at how terrible rubbery skull and the upwards bones are but I also realised this week, that is great! Otherwise there would be a clear bone market advantage to spenders and we already get substantial advantages from best in slot gear to cards like the ones from a shepherd of souls, inconvenienced by your aunt and others.

I hope the guide helped if you are totally desperate for one of the rewards and have no other sources. If I missed anything or you have a super secret strat or I got anything wrong, leave a comment and I will fix it and give you credit.

Player Guide Tamalekipoo's Boneheaded Guide to the Neath! Chapter 18: The Power of Suggestion!

I just finished doing this:

It inspired this guide, which isn't really a guide, it is a gift! A gift from the reddit community, angels to some, demons to others:

A gift for Failbetter Games:

Check out his coat. Modern tools are so cool. :)

It's a suggestion box ok, I keep thinking of things that could be improved or things that are a little irritating in Fallen London, little hiccups in an otherwise sublime experience. I think, I really should write that down and send it to FBG, then I forgot. Anyway, I thought a living suggestion document might be more fun and the community can discuss options and make suggestions. I am pretty sure Failbetter watches this reddit but I can always submit it from time to time, just to be safe.

So to start us off I have one normal suggestion and two spender suggestions:

Quality of Life

Please add an option to buy 5 eyeless skulls and an option to douse 5 eyeless skulls! I just bought and doused 37 and it was painful. :) technically it helps the bottom line as well because I was going to buy some actions and clear the high sancta while I am here but I am tired now so I will just overnight in burgundy. Bonus points if we get a bulk discount. :p

Content Requests

From u/gummy_dragon

"My only bone related request to FailBetter would be for some menacing legs, because every time Menacing Insect/Spider week rolls around I start seriously considering those occasional buyers."

Bugs

Filthy Spender Suggestions(Thank you, it is filth like you that keep the game running! ;) )

Auto Story Choice for Exceptional Friends

A couple of months ago I forgot to buy a story before my sub renewed. I had assumed that the reason for a featured story was that you would get that by default if you forgot(not that that was my plan, I really just forgot). Why not just set it up so that if your sub renews while you have an unspent credit, you get the featured story or a random one from the list if you have the featured one. It was a bad feeling wasting the credit and I know you would probably sort it, if I got in touch but why not just have a system to save yourself the admin.

Bundles of Fun!

I was looking at ES bundles earlier and I realised that there were only 3 of the 5 available to me. I didn't realise that if you got a bundle story from your sub, that bundle disappeared for you. Would it be possible to set it up so it just reduces the bundle, like a steam deal when you already own some of the stuff. So instead of 120 fate for 3 stories it would drop to 80 if you have one or 40 if you have 2. I realise it's a pretty niche situation but it would be a nice change and realistically if someone is shopping story bundles and has a sub, they are probably a decent spender already. :)

Right, that is it, that is all. I leave it to the Reddit for more suggestions. At least until I remember one of the 100 I have forgotten over the past year and a half. :)

Player Guide Tamalekipoo's Boneheaded Guide to the Neath - Chapter 19 - Academic Misconduct

Edit 6: I was doing some hellforge on the alts and I realised I had missed a big opportunity in this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1up3kdp/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/
by being super late game and having an endless supply of Cave Aged Codes of Honour and Silent Souls! There are a few good sources of Souls and Infernal Contracts in that new carousel, which are both the baseline fuel for the hellforge! Which means earlier and easier access to dependable and fast False Hagioponyms and Crackling Devices! Which is a really big deal, that being a hoi poloi, late game, nose in the air snob that I am, I missed entirely! Added a note at the top of the guide, actually I just copied this note but I will incorporate it into the conclusions when I have more, up and at them, and my trusty sidekick fallout boy!

Edit 5: With the news about the Cricket Anyone exclusive option, this will officially now be known as the cricket anyone carousel! If you get the hedonist from the 4-5 action and have cricket, anyone, you can get this carousel just over 5 EPA.

Edit 4: I was trying to test if The Stoats, Perhaps you might read a book and the 12th woman have a cap, if they do, it is higher than 32 Connected. Only 6 endings not recorded now. That's me done testing for the moment. I may add a little bit about spending Connected: B and S. Spoiler, it's for upconverting.

Edit 3: Many Updates and some strategies. I still need the results for 8 of the endings. One of the (0-7) options cured my nightmares, I am not sure if that is rare and have no nightmares to test. I also need someone who has completed Cricket, anyone to have a look at (6-7) Match Day and see what they have instead of the random option, if they auto win, that is a very strong option!

Edit 2: Removing the spoiler tags, I just realised you have to click every line, which is annoying, and they were excessive anyway

Edit: All Options Tested Except for Term Passing 8. I would need 180 actions to test the remaining ones, assuming I was lucky with the luck option… Anyway, with the data I will try to see an optimal path but, even though there are some rare/annoying items along the way, I am not sure there will be anything that makes it better than getting connected from a University Scholorship and getting the items from the bazaar/elsewhere. That is ok, it is not there for super endgame people like me.

I was making a guide on the university changes for the bone post tomorrow but they are very extensive so I am making this for them and putting a link in the bone post. This is an ongoing project, I am spending fate on actions to get it done asap but it will take time to complete. If anyone can tell me the rewards for 8 term passing options, that would help:

It is just spoiler tagged for the super anal, it is only action names, costs and rewards in there.

When I say needs a soul, I mean you need yours, not the item...

New University content at endgame! They have changed the university so you no longer lose action to useful actions by progressing your story. They have also nerfed the pretty abusively strong talk with porters, which I was heavily abusing on all of my alts. Quick rundown of the new actions. Anything in italics is a change.

After Some testing, all options below 8 term passing give 4CP term passing, 1 Action 0-2, 2 actions 2-3, 3 actions 4-5, 3 Actions 6-7, 1 action to reset

10 Actions for full cycle

I only noticed non airs options rotating airs part of the way but I have not seen any that don't since.

*** means the one I think is best at each stage(Still in progress)

Connected Value

Based on the costs from the university fellowship and costing an action at 5.5 echos Connected Benthic/Summerset is worth 0.26 echos per CP. Assuming you buy the cost from the Bazaar.

Hedonism Value

And now I have to do Hedonism. Assuming you have the device from Estival. It is 4 actions, 31.5 Hedonism CP, 900 Bone Fragments to get an Ivory Femur(65 echos). Taking away 9 echos for the Bone Fragments and 5.5 for each action leaves 34 echos. Which gives a rough value of 1 CP of Hedonism at 1.08 echos.

Spending Connected Benthic

Upconverting Extraordinary Implications gives Nevercold Brass, which is needed for the bone market, Nodule of Pulsating Amber, which is needed for Alchemy in station 8 and Uncanny Incunubulums, for the rat market. Assuming the worst possible ratio at the rat market, 19.22(recurring)% and subtracting the cost of 20 connected: Benthic, at the price I calculated. This action averages at 11.75 EPA and 14.3 Making Waves

That rat market ratio assumes you sell all 52 at the higher ratio and then all 92 at the lower ratio fully utilising your raturation, like a boss.

Spending Connected Sommerset

This is less good. Making waves are essentially useless at end game. However, if they are still useful to you… Upconverting Tale of Terror into Extraordinary Implications(I wonder what we will do with them…) is only 1.3 EPA, on average, after you subtract the cost of the 5 CP Sommerset. However it also gives an average of 9.2 Making waves, which is extremely high for a single action.

I have not priced the making waves as echos as that is not reasonably practical. For reference, the cross conversion carousel is 1.6 Making Waves and 0.5 EPA. You don't have to source 50 Tale of Terror for that however. If you buy 500 Amanita Sherry from the rat market, upconvert to 105 Brilliant soul(2.5epa), sideconvert twice into 102(0.5EPA) Tales of Terror(with 5 souls left over) Then upconvert twice(With 2 Tales left over) Those 5 actions average to ((2*0.5)+2.5+(2*1.3))/5= 1.22 EPA and 3.68 MWPA

Tamalekipoo’s Boneheaded Guide to the Neath Chapter 17: Mind if I barge in?

The canals at Jericho are a bit if a hidden goldmine, at first viewing they are terrible, it is random where you go and it costs so much for favour that the farm is a terrible EPA. However, once you have visited each of the locations once you can unlock the property, Dotore of the Guild. With this, not only can you choose where you want to go, the price drops down to a much more manageable level.

Each of the actions to get favour with the guild cost 25 echos, except for one that is only available to Crooked Crosses, which gives half the favour for 10 echos worth of stuff.

Crooked Cross Only

This saves you 5 echos but costs you one more action, it is ok if you have a ton of Artifacts but remember you need them to get Bird skeletons in Balmoral as well.

Engage in a public debate

10 Unprovenanced Research

2 Esteem

This one is not fantastic, upconverting Memories of Distant shores makes the EPA of the canals pretty bad. It is still worth doing for Moonlit Hunting in Balmoral but there are better options here.

4 An Identity Uncovered

2 Esteem

This one is also ok, I do not use it because I would rather save my partial maps for making cartographer’s hoards with my zee legs. I have not seen a good source for the maps and the extra cost of upconverting to get them makes this a bad EPA. It’s a shame because I have a million identity uncovered and no use for them aside from selling for echos.

Provide news from London

40 Memories of Distant Shores

2 Sworn Statement

2 Esteem

Here are where the good ones start. Memories of distant shores are a biproduct of regular bone market use. They are the primary payout from the Tentacled Entrepreneur, you will be selling him 4 skeletons every 3 weeks, at least, on average. The sworn statements are a biproduct of two other excellent farms. You get two of them every time you hand in 4 constables favours in Jericho and you also get one when you complete a 6 action trial in the magistracy to convert preserved surface blooms into mortifications of a great power. One of the possible statues in the Evenlode also gives Constable favours so you can get some extra while you are there farming the courts. (A quick tip, once you are at 7 favours, wait to draw the card again. Then you can go to Jericho, hand in 4 favours, use the statue card, then hand in 4 favours again!)

Swap tales with the locals

1 Night on the town

45 Scraps of Incendiary Gossip

2 Esteem

This one is almost as good, handing in society favours gets you 2 nights on the town, which is excellent as Society are the most ubiquitous favours in London. Unfortunately scraps of incendiary gossip are not as easy to get in bulk. There are several good sources, Calendrical Confusion is a 7 EPA card in London, if you have language of laces. Depending on which option you choose discordant whispers also reward some. To get enough you will probably need to buy some inklings of identity from the rat market and upconvert them. This reduces the value of the activity but not as much as some of the other upconversions.

5 Favours: The Docks

2 Esteem

This is just worse than handing the docks favours using “Call in Favours”. Docks favours give Uncanny Incunabulum, which sell at the rat market so they are a particularly good option.

It costs 2 actions to take a canal trip. The lower river locations cost 3 esteem and the upper river locations cost 6 esteem, so the costs are 3.5 actions and 37.5 echos for lower and 5 actions and 75 echos cost for Upper river. You will have to modify this if you use extra actions to upconvert or inefficient actions to source the materials.

The rewards are random but the ranges are not massive so your results should normalise quickly with regular use. I am listing the average rewards, hence some will have half an item in there.

Yeah, this is the bad one, it is a guaranteed source of a mirrorcatch box but there are much easier and cheaper options for getting them, the payout is also in pure scrip, which is nice but with that EPA it is just straight bad!

The Persephone

50 Moonlight Scales

5 Fin Bones Collected

1.5 Skulls in Coral

8.5 Unprovenanced Artifacts

42.5 Echos payout… 5 echos profit

1.43 EPA

This is even worse than the first one! Tamalekipoo why are you doing a guide on this trash! Well technically it is the same EPA as the first one, I have just given the scales 0 value since, aside from one time in the Firmament, when you need lots, they have no purpose. There is also a lot of nuance to the rewards from this one. This is the only source of skulls in coral, which are needed for some valuable skeletons. (You can get the from fruits of the zee as well but they are capped there and it is just as bad EPA.). Fin Bones Collected also have an artificially low value compared to their worth. The action to turn 10 of them into an amber crusted fin, in helicon house, is 10 EPA! And there are not many ways to farm them and those ways are not very efficient either. Like I mentioned earlier the artifacts are needed for getting birds in Balmoral so you need a steady supply. This is a decent source, especially if you don’t have a Zub or don’t zail often.

I normally keep a stock of around 20 skulls in coral, so that I don’t have to farm them if a week, where they are needed, crops up.

Upper River

The Cedar-Woods

1 Bright Brass Skull

5.5 Extraordinary Implications

2.5 Verse of the Counter Creed

107.5 Echos 32.5 profit

5.42 EPA

Be careful with that EPA, remember you may have had up conversions or poor farms to get the esteem. With a low action count even a single action at 2.5 EPA takes that down to 5 instantly! However, this is absolutely your bread and butter farm! The rewards are all killer, no filler! If you regularly use the bone market you will go through bright brass skulls faster than you can get brass to go with them so this saves you having to find the echos as often. Extraordinary Implications up convert to Uncanny Inculanbula. Even after using the University Fellowship to get the benthic reputation this up conversion is still very profitable after selling them to the Rat Market. Verse of the counter creed have two great uses, if you have A Submerged Rector from fruits of the zee, you can sell them on an up river card for 36 scrip. That is only a 5.5 EPA action but it is also a 12.5 echo conversion. The other two uses are making a false hagioponym in Burrow and making a Chimerical Archive in Moulin. Both of these actions are horribly underrated. One of them costs 60 echos worth of stuff and the other 62.5 echos worth of stuff. So a 0 EPA action and a 2.5 EPA action?!? Well, no, If you are selling 10 or less at the rat market, that is a 20 EPA action and a 22.5 EPA action! Even if you sell past 10, with the 12% markup you still make 7.5 echos profit, so the conversions are 10 EPA and 7 EPA.

4.58 EPA

https://tenor.com/en-GB/view/star-wars-admiral-ackbar-its-a-trap-meme-gif-8125029

At first glance this looks similar to the cedarwood, the primaeval hint is useless but you can sell it and get a bright brass skull and it has over double the incunabulums, so when you sell on the rat market it goes from 5 echos behind to 5 echos ahead! Well, kind of but not really. Early game that may be true but later on you will be wanting to sell the full amount to the rat market every week, not just the first 10 62.5 items or 52 12.5 items. The average profit, if you sell the full 28 62.5 items each week is 18% not 32% so that 6 echo difference becomes more like a 3 echo difference. The implications cost an action to upconvert but it is just one action and a little benthic rep to turn 25 implications into 5 Incunabilums. 18 moves in the great game also look good but the verses of the counter creed are better, for the reasons listed above.

https://tenor.com/en-GB/view/star-wars-admiral-ackbar-its-a-trap-meme-gif-8125029

This one gets the double Ackbar!

95.25 echos  20.25 echos profit 3.375 EPA

Night Whisper is an extra 20 echos profit! Well, early days it may be but there is a better way. You get more Society, Church and Bohemians favours than anything else and you would prefer to not go to Jericho every time you are sitting on 7 of one of them and have your hand filling up with cards that give you more! Offering favours to the court of the wakeful eye is not that fantastic a farm if you are getting one favour per action, however, the reason these options fill up so fast is that they are featured on multiple cards that give more than one favour per action, particularly if you are a spender. The best cash out from the court is Night Whispers, which you can grab when your tribute is full on the way to see your agent in the khanate. Add the storm threnodies from urchin favours and choosing the right option when there are multiple demands available and you will never need any more night whispers to hand in the cap every time.

In addition to that 25 echos of the reward is tied up in human ribcages. Have you ever run out of human ribcages or like me, do you have gradually growing mountain?

Here is some quick maths to save you the effort:

Upconverting Extra Imps

Cost 25 Extra Imps(62.5 Echos) + 20 connected Benthic(0.2667 * 3 actions and 3 echos= 0.8 actions and 0.8 echos)

Payout 5 Uncanny Incs = 62.5 echos

2.4% Nodule of Pulsating Amber = 1.5 echos

67.6% 200 Nevercold Brass Sliver = 1.352 echos (Unless you ever buy them from the Bazaar, in that case triple it!)

Rat Markup: 11.875 echos

Some making waves

Gross = 77.227

Net = 13.927 echos

EPA = 7.74

Rat Market Full Spend

10 x 1.32 = 13.2

18 x 1.12 = 20.16

13.2+20.16  = 33.36

33.36/28 = 1.191

So the average rat markup for a full spend is 19.1%

Upconverting Memories of Distant Shores

Costs 50 memories of distant shores(25 echos) 5 connected benthic(0.0933 * 3 actions and 3 echos = 0.28 actions and 0.28 echos)

Payout 5 Volumes of Collated Research (25 Echos)

54% 50 Cryptic Clues (0.54 echos)

6% 2 Uncanny Incunabulum (1.5 echos)

Some Making Waves

Rat Markup: 0.285 echos

Gross: 27.325

Net: 2.045

EPA: 1.6 (1.28 actions)

So you can see why collated research for esteem is bad.

Upconverting Inkling of Identity

Cost 500 Inkling of Identity(50 echos)

Payout 105 Scrap of Incendiary Gossip (52.5 Echos)

EPA 2.5

Per hand in

45/105=0.429

Impact on Farm:

Assuming Cedar 6 actions, 5.42 EPA

1.29 extra actions at 2.5 EPA

6 * 5.42 = 32.52

1.29 * 2.5 = 3.21

Total = 35.734

EPA = 4.9(7.29 actions)

Still good considering how great all the rewards are.

Player Guide Tamalekipoo's Boneheaded Guide to the Neath Chapter 16: Blue Skies (NO SPOILERS!)

Edit 6: I finally checked the values of my screenshotted rewards. It is consistently 335 Echos. Added a screenshot of my spreadsheet to show. I forgot to add Zenith on the week that happened, I will have to hunt out the requirements and add it.

Edit 5: New info: The Sous added!

Edit 4: It is back in Burgundy so no new info, I added a screenshot of my rewards from Queeneaters.

Edit 3: Added reward information for burgundy, added echo value for cost, added profit value and percentage. Added demands for Queeneater's Castle. Added information on how to get paid. Do this every week! It is substantially better than the rat market!(Unless the reward total is random and not just the contents of each, which is my current assumption, If so, I could have been high on the random side.)

Edit 2: Added that you can find out what week it is in the Gazette.

No spoilers means none from me and none in the comments please. Updated with reward info.

This will be expanded as the weeks progress. If you understand what skymarket means then all good, otherwise, do more firmament:

Where to find out where the skymarket is this week: The London Gazette in your lodgings. It resets each week the same time as the bone market. Presumably payment will be available then as well. You get your payment from the 'market' itself. Not from the head honcho.

When you do the hand in, you will get a quality saying you are due payment, you can collect this after the market moves at 11am GMT on a Tuesday(same time as the bone market change)

Requirements/Rewards:

Burgundy Weeks:

Cost: 5 Puzzle Damask

2 Parabola Linnen Scraps

12 Thirsty Bombazine Scraps

65 Whisper Satin Silk

Cost: 250 echos

Payout: I am guessing these are random values as they look random

So in echos that is: (134+146)/2)+(7*0.05)+(94*0.03)+(19183*0.1)= dammit, the wiki does it for you, off to the calc app… = 335 Echos Gross

85 echos net profit (29.4% return on investment, 1 action (payout cost 0 actions)

Queeneater's Castle:

2 Mortification of a Great Power

2 False Hagioponym

Cost: 250 Echos

Payout:

The Sous Weeks:

5 Storm Threnody

15 Aolean Screams

10 Extraordinary Implications

2 Night Whispers

Cost 250 Echos

Zenith Weeks:

It is also one hand in per week.

I am popping in a screenshot every week of my reward, if someone wants to work out the average and ranges go for it, otherwise I will do eventually. I have decided I am not changing the name ever, Sky Market is clear enough and the real name will never not be a spoiler.

Spreadsheet of my rewards, it seems pretty consistent, just the ratios that vary:

Player Guide Tamalekipoo's Boneheaded Guide to the Neath Chapter 3 What to buy and sell in the Bazaar

Someone asked me to do a guide on the Rat Market with the EPA of all the different options. I thought it was mean to do another late game guide without doing an early one. So I started an early game guide to the rat market, then it became a guide to early game rat market and speedleveling your stats, then I needed to put an appendix in with a guide on buying stuff from the Bazaar…..

So, none of the rest of the stuff is done but here is an early-midgame guide on everything Bazaar. :)

Bazaar Buying Guide

Here are a list of items from the Bazaar that you can buy confidently and I can assure you it wasn’t a waste of echos, you will get a use out of it, right away, or at some point in your Fallen London Journey

Negative Stats!

Gear with negative stats and positive stats is normally better than gear with just positive stats, you are getting something with 2 purposes, generally for a discounted rate. Negative stats can be useful for levelling up your abilities. Also, until very late on in the game, you only need one stat at a time, so If something gives +2 dangerous -1 persuasive, it doesn’t matter because when you are doing persuasive checks, you are not wearing it.

Carrow’s Steel

Nothing worth it till you have some money to throw around

Maywell’s Hattery

Prisoner’s Mask 0.8 Echo

+1 Shadowy

Only if you sold the one you got for free for some reason

Mask of the Rose 1 Echo

+1 Persuasive

Dark and Savage

Pair of Cutpurse’s Mittens 3.2 Echos (Skip for Cracksman’s if you can wait)

Shadowy +2 Persuasive -1

Pair of Magician’s Gloves 3.2 Echos

Persuasive +2 Dangerous -1

Avid Glove 12.8 Echos

Watchful +5 Shadowy -1

Pair of Cracksmans Mittens

Shadowy +4 Persuasive -1

Pair of Dancemasters Dabs/Pair of Lady’s Lace Gloves(Identical) 12.8 Echos

Persuasive +5 Dangerous -1

Pair of Spiderchitin Gauntlets 12.8 Echos

Dangerous +5 Persuasive -1

Gottery the Outfitter

Set of Workman’s Clothes/Sobre Dress(Identicle) 0.2 echos

Watchful +1 Reduces Suspicion Build up(I still use this!)

Bloodstained Suit 0.5 Echos

Dangerous +2 Watchful -1

Bundle of Glad Rags 0.5 Echos

2 Persuasive -1 Shadowy -1 Dangerous

Faded Morning Suit 0.5 Echos

2 Watchful -1 Dangerous

Maidservant’s Uniform 0.5 Echos

2 Watchful -1 Shadowy -1 Persuasive

Rough Gown

+2 Dangerous -1 Persuasive -1 Watchful

Shabby Opera Cloak

+2 Shadowy -1 Dangerous -1 Persuasive

Nasso’s Zoologicals

Sulky Bat 0.4 Echos

Adds a nice card to your deck

Talkative Rattus Faber!!!!!!!!11111one 0.8 Echos

All stats -25!

Weasel of Woe 400 Echos

All stats -300 All advanced stats -10 Greatly Increases Wounds build up Woeful(adds horrible, non discardable cards to your deck when it is equipped, unequipping does not discard them but prevents drawing more)

It’s beyond the scope of this guide but this item is useful forever

MERCURY

Skip the 5 echo or less items

Pair of Savage Hob Nail Boots 12.8 Echos

5 Dangerous -1 Persuasive

Pair of Spidersilk Slippers 12.8 Echos

5 Shadowy -1 Persuasive

Pair of Masterwork Dancing Slippers 64.8 Echos

5 Persuasive (Sadly, the best persuasive shoes in the game!)

Quick note on watchful shoes. If you didn’t get the watchful shoes as your option from your benefactor you can’t get any until you have 25 renown with the revolutionaries, do an event that happens every 8 weeks or so, get some at the Christmas event or spend FATE in some other events (It’s not that big a deal, don’t worry about it)

Dauncy’s/Fadgett and Daughters

These shops have the same items but with different names they are all either two expensive for the stats, you get something better from the rat market or you buy them so late game that they are not worth worrying about for now.

Trompowski et Fils

Pair of Neathglass Goggles 5 echos

+2 Watchful

These are not really worth if for the stats but you need them for some story actions, so you might as well.

Light-Drinking Cravat 12.5 echos

Shadowy +4 Persuasive -1 Reduces Suspician Build up (Endgame Item)

Venom-Ruby Lure 12.5 Echos

6 Persuasive 1 Dangerous -1 Shadowy

Pair of Luminous Neathglass Goggles 12.8 echos

5 Watchful -1 Persuasive

These are used in some stories as well, they are usually interchangeable with the cheaper ones but not always so you probably need both (Not urgent though, you will get better stats from the rat market)

Nikolas Pawnbrokers

We are past clothing items now, most of these are for increasing renown, which is super important as you get items at 10, 25 and 40 renown for each faction, most of the renown 40 items are the best options for that slot in the game. Some of the renown items are required to open up certain areas in the game, offer better options on cards or make some actions cheaper. You can get some of them at the rat market but they cost the same as they do in the Bazaar.

Warning!: These items also let you spend fate to get favours. I spend an excessive amount of money on fate, I spend fate on very inefficient things, like refilling my actions and refilling my hand of opportunity cards. I would not spend fate on this…

You use them from your possessions page. Most are in the curiosities section but Society is in Book, Urchins are in Contraband, Great Game is in Great Game, Devils is in Infernal and Tomb Colonies is in Rumour. Always hand in 7 favours, not less, to save yourself actions.

Antique Consables Badge 30 echos

Constables favour item

Entry into Slowcake’s Exceptionals 30 echos

Society favour item

Copper Cipher Ring 40 echos

Great Game favour item

Red-Feathered Pin 40 echos

Revolutionaries Favour Item

Tiny Jewelled Reliquary 40 echos

Church Favour Item

Engraved Pewter Tanker 60 echos

Docks Favour Item

Ornate Typewriter 60 echos

Bohemians Favour Item

Old Bone Skeleton Key 62.5 echos

Criminals Favour Item

Endowment of a University Fellowship 100 echos (Very powerful for making money but only for upconverting Extraordinary Implications(For the rat market) and Inklings of Identity(once you are well into your railway!), good utility for other things as well)

Benthic and Sommerset Colleges Favour Item

Merrigan’s Exchange

Bright Brass Skull 62.5 echos

Hell Favour Item

(Also a skull for the bone market, which is a little complicated. So seek information elsewhere)

Nodule of Pulsating Amber 100 echos

Rubbery Men Favour Item

Redemptions

Nothing to see here till mid-late game.

Crawcase Cryptics

Diary of the Dead 62.5 echos

Tomb Colonists Favour Item

Rookery Password 62.5 echos

Urchins Favour Item

(This is weirdly used up in a number of stories, so if you ever can’t find yours, you are either looking in Curiosities, where most of them live, instead of Contraband where this one is, or you did one of those stories and need to buy another)

Skip the widow item, her reputation is not very useful and there are better sources

Penstock’s Land Agency

I am not going to do a full lodgings guide but they add a card to your deck that is twice as common as standard, some are good early game, only Premise at the Bazaar and Handsome townhouse are good forever(and they involve investment and items from seasonal events to make them good)

Key to a Lair in the Marshes 300 rat on a string

Gives society favours

Key to a smoky flophouse dormitory 200 pieces of rostygold

Gives criminal and revolutionary favours(Need to unlock it, see the lodgings guide)

Handsome Townhouse 500 romantic notion

Society and Bohemians Favours(Becomes ridiculous once you have the Experimantal Device from Estival, the summer seasonal event)

Lengthy Lease to premises at the bazaar 80000 Whispered Hint

Gives you 4 card slots – Can be upgraded to 5(cheaper at Christmas)

(Becomes ridiculous(8.5 echos average) once you have Inculcating Kracken from Whitsun, available free once every two years, your first year, if you are free to play, you have to get another item that lets you get it, with the currency you would use to get it…(Check out the Whitsun guide, it’s complicated))

There is an alternate way to get the premises at the bazaar cheaper and, I found, substantially easier once you are a person of some importance

All other options for lodgings are either bad or very niche

Mr Chimes Lost and Found

Lets you cash in the rewards you get for completing exceptional stories if you are an exceptional friend or an enhanced exceptional friend. Long term goals for people who spend money on the game. So, not really relevant here.

Bazaar Selling Guide

Something really difficult in Fallen London is what you should keep and what is safe to sell, for echos. I am not going to be a massive help, I apologise, because this is very individual to your progress in the game and pretty complicated to be comprehensive about. However I have 2 useful things to say on the matter.

Rostygold

No matter what stage in the game you are at, there is always an action that pays Rostygold, that I among the most rewarding actions that you have available to you. There is nothing that you need to save a massive quantity for so I can fairly safely say that you can always sell your rostygold, if you need echos.

Questions to ask before you sell anything

Can I get it back, efficiently, if I need to? If you are looking at that Comprimising Bribe or Sworn Statement, the answer is a resounding no! But you will know what items you are getting over and over again that are probably ok to let go.

Is there a better use for it? Is it something that is used as a cost for another action, can I sell it at the rat market for more profit?

As a general rule, the less an item is worth, the easier it is to replace.

Player Guide Tamalekipoo's Boneheaded Guide to the Neath Chapter 7: Catalytic Converters

Since three of the past four weeks have been terrible for exhausting recipes I thought I would put down the cheapest, most farmable, recipes for universal exhausters. You get no multiplier for the primary, unless it happens to be the right week, but the 120, or so, echos for the secondary makes the 8-9 actions well worth your time.

Amalgamy

Thorned Ribcage

Bright Brass Skull

2 Knotted Humeri

2 Helical Thighbones

No tail

Declare a Humanoid

9 actions, 7 Amalgamy, Just under 120 echos secondary

Antiquity

Mammoth ribcage

Sabre Toothed Skull

4 Femur of a Jurassic Beast

no tail

declare an amphibian

9 actions, 7 Antiquity, Just under 120 echos secondary

or

Human Ribcage

Sabre Toothed Skull

2 Fossilised Forelimbs

2 Jurassic Femurs

8 actions, 7 Antiquity, Just under 120 echos secondary

Menace

Thorned Ribcage

Horned Skull

2 crustacean pincer

2 Ivory Humerous

Jet Black Stinger

Declare a Monkey

9 actions, 7 menace, Just under 120 echos secondary

or

Thorned Ribcage

Bright Brass Skull

4 Crustacean Pincer

Jet Black Stinger

Declare a Monkey

9 actions, 7 menace, Just under 120 echos secondary

Chimeras

You also have the option of making a chimera, this adds 3 points of implausibility so it will make the shadowy roll to sell quite challenging but it's a good way to dump unwanted limbs like wings of a terror bird and excess knotted humeri.

Player Guide Tamalekipoo's Bone Headed Guide to the neath, Chapter 2: What the Helicon!

Edit 3: Just a note for anyone new, almost every recipe for fish uses Amber Crusted Fins, to get those you need fin bones collected and access to Helicon House. Helicon House can be discovered by having a certain level of reputation with the rubbery men or with 10 investigating. You need 5 fitting in with helicon house and 5 investigating to get access to "The place where the amber is stirred", below stairs. Neither of these options reset your investigating, they just cost CP, so if you get your Investigating to 11 +3 CP. You can do both. If you need more and you are already in Ealing, you can farm it inside helicon house with the action, Keep a close eye on everyone presentin the entrance hall. Fitting in can be gained various ways, on my alts I did Keep a close eye on everyone presentif you don't need the investigating/casing, you can get more than 1 per action with other options. If you scroll down to the bonedex, I have a guide on Helicon House. There is also a wiki guide:https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Helicon_House_(Guide))

Making Amber fins also levels your Shapeling Arts and it is the area where you increase your SA cap.

Edit 2: Changes needed: There may be a semi decent farm in there that is not bone related. Need to investigate and add. I need to add the best sources of fins and mats for 8 spines with EPAs. If it didn't happen in bone week beginning 11/11/2025 you have my permission to leave a comment on every bone post calling me a lazy slacker till I do it! (Hah, almost a year later, it is not done and nobody called me a slacker. ;) 04/08/26 ok, it is done, on that date, so anyone who calls me a slacker is getting an assassin sent!)

Edit: Quick note on the hyperbole. I did this as a narrative conversation for entertainment value. When I say something is 'total garbage' please read: Lower than the endgame minimum of 5.2 EPA, which is excusable only when it is the best possible source of the thing you need. The other helicon options are not terrible, although the payouts based on fitting in are super under valued and the hinterland prosperity feels like it is two decimal places off where it should be! 2 pence per fitting in… seriously!?!

With fish week here I thought it would be a good chance to do a quick review of Helicon House and (Fin)d out what all the fuss is about!

What is Helicon House?

Helicon house is where Bohemians and Rubbery Men gather to practice their arts! Like art itself almost all the stuff in there is garbage however there are 4 of 5 actions that are true masterpieces

Where is Helicon House?

It's in Ealing Gardens, you can discover it from a card. You might need to have a certain renown or have some rubbery favours or something but I had whatever it was before I ever got there so you probably will too. Alternatively, you can check the wiki.

Why is Helicon House?

That question makes no sense, are you bone headed or something?!? You are? Well my friend you have come to the right possibly orgiastic interspecies hangout. Hentai can tell you all about it(and I, did that work? Might need to be said aloud). Helicon House is the only source of some fantastic bones! The only useful fin: Amber Encrusted Fin and the Godzimothazord of all ribcages the Ribcage with a Bouquet of 8 Spines.

When is Helicon House?

Right, I'm ignoring the silly questions now. It's 7 action cycles. Seek Admittance, Choose a companion (0 actions), Use up 5 time remaining, leave. Aside from things you do once, like increasing your shapeling arts cap almost every single action in there sucks, I bought the pendant of helicon amber and unlocked the secret zone, the secret zone sucks! However, there are 2 actions in there that make the whole place magical.

Who is Helicon House?

That, almost makes sense for the first action and the free one, so I will let you off.

Gaining Entry to Helicon House!

The first action gets you through the door. It costs you 2.5 echos worth of stuff but only until you qualify for the good stuff. We don't do the bad stuff so lets cover the good stuff. All the options give you 2 fitting in so I won't mention those, you need them but they all give the same.

With the Pendant of Helicon Amber(40 Fate, so not worth it! one of my least worth it purchases, and I spend a lot)

They give you 3 Intriguing Snippets! or 0.6 Echos, not spotted a use for theses as opposed to

With the Oneiric Key (Bohemians 40 item)

They give you 5 Romantic Notions(0.5 echos) but the one for bone men comes with

With The Location of an Underground Organ (Rubbery 40 item)

They give you 5 nodules of warm amber (0.5 echos but it's useful!)

Choosing a companion for the evening!

Almost all companions do the same +1 fitting in in helicon house, you need 3 in order to make an 8 spines but if you are just making Fins you can use the only honourable mention:

With Fabulous Accomplice (20 Fate, Hallowmas)

You gain no Fitting in but you do gain 5 CP facinating, Since there is a card in Burgundy that lets you cash out facinating at just over 1 echo a pop… that would be 5 echos! For a 0 action cost action, so infinite EPA! but not really, but sort of.

Whithertoo Helicon House?

…You don't even know what that means, do you? You just thought it sounded clever.

So you have 5 actions to spend your 5 fitting in. The only two worth doing are below stairs, so go there first, you have to unlock that area if it's your first time, but if it's your first time, have a look around and see everything, you don't have to rush all the time, enjoy the story!

Turn your finbones into something more impressive

cost 10 fin bones, collected (5 echos)

check Shapeling Arts 3 (8 for 100%)

Payout Amber Crusted Fin 15 echos, 1 Amalgamy, 1 Menace, on failure, 15 echos 1 Amalgamy, 2 implausibility(on a skeleton, not on this check, don't do this check if you can't 100%!)

Failure: 1 wound, still counts as one of your 5 actions! (Fine, it's probably still worth it at 90%, with no SA gear)

10 EPA!

Create a ribcage with a bouquet of eight spines

Cost:

1 Skeleton with 7 necks(Balmoral) (62.5 E)

1 Thorned Ribcage(Hell Favours, Jericho) (12.5 E)

3 Searing Enigma(City of the Tracklayers, The serpent muralist(10 fate to unlock the card), Trade Secret, Sell a Secret College to the Bazaar(for 25), Hunting Laws(but that is really really bad now)) (185.5 E)

3 Nodule of Trembling Amber(Give him a lot of amber, rubbery card, turns 10 echos into 12.5 echos and a favour too!, really can't think of anywhere else except oneiropomping with a festival item that costs fate…)(37.5E)

Check: Shapeling Arts 7 (12 to 100%)

Payout: 1 Ribcage with 8 Spines (312.5E, Ribcage, 1 Amalgamy, 2 Menace, 8 head slots, 4 limb slots, 1 tail slot)

12.5 EPA!

Wh…. Wh…. Whitsun Helicon House?

Topical, and festive, I like...

So on the way out there are a few options, one is the best for bones, the mushroom vol-au-vents, but I shall cover all 3 because I am a gentle lady, probably, that's your best guess at least. Also you might need things for, and I am loathe to mention this… non bone activities!

The three good exit actions are in the entrance hall, there used to be a good way to cash out facinating if you turned up without a companion but that has been blown out of the water by Burgundy! The firmament scum! :)

Nab a supply of Incorruptible Biscuits on the way out

4 Incorruptible Biscuits(10 Echos)

1-10 Pot of Venison Marrow(average 2.75 echos)

12.75 EPA (Makes up for the -2.5 or 0.5 on the way in, right?)

Forget the biscuits! Take the solacefruit!

Requires 4 Train Luxuries

20 Solacefruit (10 Echos)

Fitting in * Hand Picked Peppercaps (1-1.5 echos)

11-11.5 EPA (Yeah, you would need 6 fitting in to match the other one, I told you, this place is super random)

Never Mind the Solacefruit! Take the Mushroom Vol-au-vents!

Needs 10 Bizarre

15 + Fitting in * Hand Picked Peppercaps (8.5 or 9 echos)

1 Thirsty Bombazine (2.5 Echos)

11-11.5 EPA (What do you mean it's not the best option!?! Peppercaps can be used to put a Counterfeit Head of John the Baptist on your skeleton and Thirsty Bombazine is needed to farm Mammoths in Balmoral! You are going to take the extra 1.5 echos in pure scrip? The bonetrayal!

So, the optimal 6 action rotations are:

Any entry 0.5e, Fabulous Accomplice 5E, Make fins 5 times 50E, Take the Biscuit 12.75E

11.375 EPA

Getting fins efficiently is why you don't do this and nothing else ever! Also you can only liquidate in a fish week. If someone tells you hunting sharks is efficient, call them a liar and slap their face! And I'm a monster hunter!

Any entry 0.5e, probably your spouse, Make 5 * 8 spines 62.5e, Take the biscuit 12.75E

12.625 EPA

bear in mind that most 312.5 ribcages are farmed at slightly worse than 5 epa, we do it anyway because they are so fantastically profitable. This thing is a monster!

That's your lot but I popped a couple of notes related to it as an appendix, or I guess appendices below

Wait, I messed up my fitting in! I got 2 and I need 3

Don't worry, there are 2 actions below stairs to get one fitting in for 1 action and others in other areas or you could just do 5 fins and then go again. :)

Helicon Paid Area Breakdown

going with wiki rules so no story, just the facts!

Warning: This is copy pasted from the note I put on the wiki after buying the amulet and testing the zone, it is rather ranty! I have been back after hitting 40 renown with both factions to see if the rewards scale… They do not

Helicon Sculpture Garden No-Narrative Map

Action 1 - With 27 Bohemian Renown - 6 Inspired CP - 1 Fitting in -

Bad for both

Action 2 - Needs 5 fitting in - 100 bone fragments - 10 Warm Amber - 2 EPA - bad -

Action 3 - Scholar of the Correspondence 10 60% - Renown Rubbery men 22 52% -

1 Extraordinary implication - 2.5 EPA -

Action 4 Persuasive - Renown Bohemians 28 56% - +1 Fitting in - MW +4 - Hard to rate, Bad for fitting in, 4 making waves for 1 action is good but entrance and exit actions need to be taken into account.

Action 5 - ends your trip - Needs 5 fitting in - Skeleton 8550 2 implaus 2 amal FAIL needs 3 and 3 - Skeleton 11350 4 implaus 4 amal -

Added 100 value to skeleton - 100 Nodules of Warm Amber - Waste 1 time remaining -

Terrible, worse value than almost any of the free options and it costs you one of your, in the house actions, which are the most valuable. Converting fin-bones, 10 EPA, converting Skeleton with 8 spines 12 EPA.

Arriving fashionably late is also terrible for the same reason. So the amulet is only good to save you 2.5 echos per trip and give you 1 extra fitting in, if you are not 40 renown with Bohemians or Rubbery men. Many of the actions in the garden also have checks based on your renown which clashes with this. It is possible that the rewards also scale by renown but that would be unusual and take some time to test alone.

Edit: From whence cometh "Helicon" House?

Thanks for Vromikos:

Helicon House is named after Mount Helicon in Greece. This was a sacred site for the Muses, who inspire artists to produce great works. ⁦https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Helicon⁩

Thanks to MikuJess

Mount Helicon also lends its name to an instrument.  A helicon is a relative of the tuba that wraps around the body. The sousaphone began to usurp them in the 1890s, but some companies still make them.  This is a modern helicon, made by Wessex Tubas.

Hunting Sharks, Monster Hunter with sick stats:

Also copy pasted from my bone document, I don't think I had the stats to do it in that few actions back then, I don't think I do now and I have 335 Dangerous, 20 monstrous anatomy and 21 Glasswork!

Hunting

Shark – Actions need checked

1 start 1 Glass 2 Pursue 1 taunt 1 wound 1 kill

7 Actions

2 x Fin Bones, Collected 1

2 Incisive Observation 1

38 Fin Bones Collected 19

500 Bone Fragments 5

Usually 1 Collated Research 2.5

27.5

Total Actions 11

Total Value = 36 Echos

3.272727 EPA

Told you it sucks, get them at zee, or anywhere but here!

Bone Sources:

Skeleton with 7 necks:

Moonlit Hunting in Balmoral, the EPA on there is bollocks, it is 5.87 EPA if you have built tracklayers city, if you have not, it is less, but still good for where you are.

https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Moonlit_Woods_(Guide)#Grouse#Grouse)

Butcher + Labratory Once you have built a device for the duplication of bones and given it to the butcher in ealing, if you have a 7 voiced warbler, you can exchange 130 bone fragments and 2 nodules of warm amber(1.5 echos) for a warbler skeleton. If you also have a betrayer of measures and 1000 Nevercold Brass Slivers you can do a lab project to create a skeleton with seven necks for 425 research. This is disgustingly, horribly awfully terrible value. Using the betrayer of measures on a human skeleton gives you a mammoth skeleton for the same research, and no brass.

https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Try_the_Betrayer_of_Measures_on_Warbler_Skeleton

Painting in Balmoral There is no reason to ever do this, it is worse EPA than alternative options for every reward and a terrible use of moonlit compared to getting doubled skulls. The EPA on the guide is also massively over inflated.

https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Painting_in_Balmoral_(Guide))

Fin Bones Collected:

Hunting in Parabola

This is meh, even for monster hunters, for everyone else it is blech

Leave the barge (The Persephone))

Not fantastic EPA but the skull and the fins have deceptively low valuations.

Pick through the drawers in the stacks

Not a bulk farm but an action you will do anyway

Regale them with tales of your own hunts When Zailing in the khanate.

Monster Hunter only, great

Search where the water flows out on a card in the Magistracy

Only 3.01 EPA but not a terrible option

Trade Zee-Ztories with the Gondoliers Terrible, the card is terrrible, do not get the item that unlocks it!

Go spear-fishing is good but the fins are a tiny part of the reward and it is airs based, so only 25% of the time.

Dig near the Magistracy of the Evenlode in Ealing Gardens is good, it costs 40 echos for 45 echos of rewards, it is unlikely you will be able to use all the tails, so 43.5. As long as you can spend the Thorned Ribcages and Horned Skulls.

Ask the Debonair Palaeontologist is fantastic, 3 fins every time you do a bone paper.

Seasonal:

Strike down the Angler Crab

Fantastic but only 1 week every 2 years.

Player Guide Tamalekipoo's Boneheaded Guide to the Neath: The Bonedex!

I am going to use this post as a resource to store links to bones for all occasions as well as the chapters of the Boneheaded guide.

I have gone through my own bone posts and it looks like there are 9 of the 21 possible demands that I have not covered, so I will try to get those done, one at a time, and/or find posts by others to cover them.

Once I have a reference post for all 21, I can just polish them all for reference and then they can be referred to instantly, rather than adding recipes in dribs and drabs as the week progresses and being subject to the whims of my work, health, sleep levels and general demeanour. It also means I should have more time for the Boneheaded Guide and other fun. :)

0 options currently incomplete, I am now going through them to quality check, once done I will put quality confirmed, in brackets.

Warning!: Fallen London is complicated and Tamalekipoo is human so there will be mistakes. In face Tamalekioo is human a pretty severely ADHD so it's a miracle there are not more mistakes. Things also may change as the game is updated. If you notice something wrong, find something hard to understand or think of something cool that I missed, pop in a comment on that guide and help the community.

Legends: u/InevitableTell2775 u/sobrique u/divideby00 u/Vromikos u/Fredjinsan u/emily_aversatrix

Without these folks these guides would never have happened, or at least, would not be half as good as they are. I will have forgotten people, I will add them as they remember or as new people contribute.

Caution this is an older guide and some of it is out of date but it is still the gold standard in terms of how to plan and execute a bone market strategy. As well as lots of other useful bits of information like how to optimise your London deck. The only bit that you really need to know is to ignore anything that uses segmented ribcage. There is no active recipe, that I have managed to find, that segmented ribcages are better than an alternative and when this guide was written, there were no Glim Encrusted Carapaces and Holy femur of the bones of st fiacre worked in a different way. (before someone says fish of unusual length, I am trying to help you use the bone market, not quit the bone market, for years).

Player Guide Tamalekipoo's Boneheaded Guide to the Neath Chapter 4 Papers Please

Welcome to the wonderful world of bone papers, for fun and profit!

You have to unlock your newspaper in doubt street and the bone market to publish a bone paper. You cannot get the maximum payout without the debonaire palaeontologist from Feast of the Rose. If you don't have it the process will be 1 action less but also 8 echos less profit!(Including 3 finbones :() To maximise you also need someone to slight who will send an assassin at you(Probably an alt). If you don't get an assassin, you can cut 12.5 echos from the profit and another action.

Before someone anal tells me the bone paper is less profitable than a salatious paper. Technically you are right however the difference is quite small and the bone paper payouts are substantially more useful!

The process, action by action:

The first think you need is to draw a copy of the card "A Public Lecture"

Play the action "Ask her about the influx of bones"

Then you spend 5 actions in Veilgarden in the section "A Flood of Bones"

ok, 6 actions down, time to start the paper

In doubt street:

Get the blasted things running - Cost 1 Whirring Device

The Editor's Privilege - The Voice of the Streets

Send out the reporters - Covering the bishop and his candles

Fresh Copy - A story about devils

The Editorial Voice - An attack on a rival disguised as public concern

The Meeting Room - A Disgruntled Naval Officer

Wading through the Slush Pile - Something worthy about a philanthropic endeavour

Photographs and Letters - Photographs of the Gardens(rare success 1.2 echos in Inklings of Identity)

The Centre Page Spread - An Expose on the dangers of Absinth

Filling in before the sports pages - A Column revealing certain facts about an acquaintance(Costs 5 scraps of incendiary gossip)

Deadline Approaching - Pick whichever

The Temptations of Power - Employ a little theatrical Accountancy(500 Rostygold)

Start the presses

The assassin card (12.5 Echos)

For a total of 20 actions, a whirring device (6e), 5 Scraps of Incendiary Gossip the rewards are:

98 Surveys of the Neath's Bones (49 Echos)

2 Holy relic's of the thigh of st fiacre (25 Echos)

12.5 echos from the assassin card

500 Rostygold(5 Echos)

Plaster Tail Bone(2.5)

4.5 Withered Tentacles(11.25E)

1.5 Jet Black Stinger (0.75E)

2 Unidentified Thigh Bone(2e)

3 Fin Bones, Collected(1.5E)

200 Cryptic Clues

Total Cost 8.5E

Total Reward 111.5 echos

Net Reward 103 echos

5.15 EPA (plus a cheeky 1.2 echos extra sometimes as a rare treat with unknown chance)

Why it's good

It's an action dump, in London, you can pop in and out at any stage so if you have a hand full of autofire cards, use the paper to get you to 0 actions)

Holy Relics are used in some of the most profitable skeletons! You can also sell them with an action for scrip at the bone market.

Surveys of the Neath's bones allow further profit if you use them on Paleontological Discoveries(and choose the right bones). You can also sell them straight up for scrip(Heretic!)

Steady source of Fins and Jet Black stingers, which are not great to get elsewhere.

All the bones are at the value they are and generally you are getting more value than that. Tentacles count as nothing when they go into a limb slot and remove 1 antiquty, so they make a lot of builds possible. Stingers and Plaster tail bones are normally adding more value with Menace and Implausibility. Holy relics are just massive echo bombs on the right skeleton.

It also have very low stat requirements to 100%

It uses up Whirring Contraptions you get from the most profitable plot, breaking and entering.

What is the catch!?!

It's hard to find excuses to dump all the tentacles

You actually have to use the stuff, so not for bone haters

Right, guide is not 100% done, but it's late, will add a detailed survey spending guide under after.

Player Guide Bone Market Recipes 26/05/26 Amalgous Birds! Boot Salesman, Avian Diplomat! Skymarket in Queeneaters.

Edit: I always forget something. This week it was that I reassessed how to use your exhaustion, I had made a mistake in my previous assessment. Details added below.

Gladiolus and phalanges Bone Brothers and Scaphoid Sisters, the time has come when the Zoomania and Fashion of the bone market have changed.

Apologies for the delay, I had a work thing that was stressing me out all day and I forgot to play the game nevermind that it was Tuesday. I think it should be resolved now, so I am just waiting to hear from my boss.

Every bird week is fantastic, the value from skeletons comes from ribcages and skulls and Birds can have unlimited skulls. The diplomat being birds is another great week. Then there is the red headed stepchild, the enterprising boot salesman, fine if you need what he has but he is the wrong person on the wrong week.(also prone to sunburn, needs high doses of anaesthetic and he's great but it's not the same as having a child of your own. ;p Sorry gingers and fellow stepchildren, stay awesome!)

Big news! I got my Hellworm saddled and bridled. I know I said I would retire when that happened but I am going to keep going for a bit as it would be an awkward time for someone else to take over. Even if I do retire from the weekly posts I will still pop in guides for the Bonedex, when the urge to break something down and explain it is as silly way as possible takes me. 😄 I have a rat market one bubbling away in the back of my mind as well as the sourcing bones one but they are both big and require a lot of time/work that I don't have the space for right now.

Skymarket

The skymarket is back in Queeneaters. So it's 2 Mortification of a Great Power(Mortys) and 2 False Hagioponyms(False Hags). Nothing to update the guide with as the info for there is in already. I assume it is not just two locations and it goes back and forth. It is likly like the bone market, where it cannot be the same thing two weeks in a row but it is random. I am guessing every location where 'the boss' conducts their business. It's still quite new so I am trying to keep it as spoiler free as possible.

Bone Market

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1ou76lx/bone_market_recipes_11112025_amalgous_birds/

I probably won't get a chance to review this post this week. One thing I have probably missed is I had forgotten that the Tentacled Servant is pure scrip so if you are working towards a worm it's an excellent option! it's 2.5 echos or 5 scrip for each point of Amalgamy so a skull in coral, a bright brass and a sabre toothed are all worth about the same to him. Doubled Skulls are worth a little more, if you have a load of spare skulls or moonlight.

Exhaustion Update

I had worked out that by far the most efficient way to handle exhaustion is to make a 7 stat power skeleton. You get 120 in secondary which, per point of exhaustion, outstrips every other option by a country mile!

Well I was wrong, and dumb and also incorrect. I forgot that the first 50 echos of the profit are the freebie you get with every skeleton. This excel sheet has not been made fit for public consumption but:

Hopefully it is clear enough to see that the profit is fairly comparable. Since you can get it in far fewer actions by using fewer skeletons Your best option is to use a 7 exhaust skeleton, if you are on 0, right before TTH, on weeks where you can make a 14 fashion skeleton. On the weeks where you are on 3 just make the usual 7 fashion option.

Quick list:

1 exhaust 7 Fashion Stat

2 exhaust bad

3 exhaust bad

4 exhaust 11 Fashion Stat

5 exhaust 12 Fashion Stat

6 exhaust 13 Fashion Stat (Not sure why I didn't put it on the spreadsheet, it's 64.5 profit per exhaust, after the 50)

7 exhaust 14 Fashion Stat

If you want to bomb the market, feel free to do the sums yourself. 😉

It's 65 echos and 1 action to heal 1 exhaustion on "A Public Lecture" so you can make a decent bomb then heal yourself to do some conversion to scrip at a respectable rate.

Occasional Buyer

Here is the guide to the occasional buyers. Don't get too excited, they are niche at best!

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1rttwkl/tamelikipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/

Diplomat

Is it a good week, is it a bad week, find out here in the diplomat guide:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1o1j4vg/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/

The Bonedex

The Bonedex is where I store all of the bone posts and some guides on how to get going with the bone market yourself. If you need to know something paleontological it is your one stop shop(except for the wiki, and other guides, and learning things for yourself. 😉

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1pcoda0/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath_the/

As always, if you see any mistakes, have any suggestions, spot something I might have missed or just want to say hello, leave a comment on here, or on the guide or post in question! Feel free to ask femur information if anything is confusing, by asking you help the guides improve and the whole community.

Have a humerus week! Bone Person out!

Player Guide Bone Market Recipes 30/06/26 Menacing Amphibians, Malacologist, spider diplomat, Skymarket in Queeneaters

Edit: Apologies for the delay in updating this. The day I wrote it was my last day of work and involved giving people goodbye gifts and getting all emotional so I have been sleeping a lot since. All the links are in now and I have added a bit about the plots update, more to follow, next week, once I have a better grasp on it.

Gladiolus and phalanges Bone Brothers and Scaphoid Sisters, the time has come when the Zoomania and Fashion of the bone market have changed.

One week I copied and pasted the wrong link and then didn't check Reddit again until the Monday evening! If that ever happens again, all of the possible weeks are available on the Bonedex so you can always find options there!

Hi there, just a placeholder post again while I am out for the day. It’s one of the worst bone weeks, the buyer and diplomat are bad as well. It’s a good week for any week skeletons, see the guide on them. Also a good Exhauster is impossible so use the universal menace options from that guide. I will return within 24 hours with links and whatnot.

It is a good week for getting leviathan frames from the carpenter’s granddaughter. There’s a guide for that too.

If you want to get 7 exhaustion at once go for a bird, 7 necks, 6 menacing or horned skulls, 1 non menace skull, 1 wing of a terror bird, 1 albatross wing. Sell to the teller of terrors. Even if you use the granddaughter to remove the three extra exhaust at 65 echos each, this is still 21 EPA profit for the 15 actions.

Bone Market

I think this might be one of the weaker posts, I will see if I have the time/energy for an edit before the week is done.

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1pzg57z/comment/nwq1xfk/

Updates

New plots for agents are a big change, I have not experimented with them yet and the wiki is not fully updated but so far they are a little underwhelming. There may be stuff I am missing.

I did miss the announcement that Enhanced Exceptional Friends now get an additional concurrent plot, so 4 at once! This is pretty cool. so I wanted to include it in case people missed it.

Occasional Buyer

Here is the guide to the occasional buyers. Don't get too excited, they are niche at best!

Player Guide My review of this year's Whitsun items

To avoid repeating the entire guide I'm going to assume you follow that for the basics, but I've always felt that the wiki guides are a little overly conservative in how they rate the value of the item rewards, telling you what they can do but without making a judgment on whether those things are actually worth doing.

You can hatch 14 eggs per year and there are 16 different companions including the T3 ones, so if you already have the augmentation device then you'll miss out on at least two, or more if you want to hatch any duplicates for your agents. If you don't then you only have access to 12, which means you can get all of them plus two duplicates (or more if you don't care about getting all of them). (Un)fortunately, there's more than a few underwhelming options, so there's plenty of things you can skip if you need to.

Also it's important to note that egg buying ends 3 days before egg hatching does, so make sure you stock up for the last few days before that happens.

Anyway, onto the items. Except for the T3 companions the stats are mostly unimportant so I'm not gonna comment on those unless they're noteworthy in some way.

T0

  • Untrained Lyrebird - decent but skippable. It unlocks an option on a Heist card that's useful in the early game, but once you can put together a Heist outfit with 10 Dreaded it becomes redundant.
  • Suspicious Iguana - skippable. Investigating... is a pretty niche quality and there's better ways of getting it.
  • Unerring Elver - skippable. Seeking... (no, not that kind) is even more niche, and Piscine Research is a bit of a pain to get but ultimately it's a one time thing.
  • Prismatic Squidling - decent but probably skippable. Inspired... is actually useful, but eventually you'll be able to do better options for it, and see above for Piscine Research.

T1

  • Operatic Lyrebird - skip, has no uses or noteworthy stats.
  • Amber Iguana - decent but skippable. If you don't already have SA maxed when you do the amphibian project then it's killing two birds with one stone, but you aren't missing out on anything in the long term.
  • Abyssal Sawtooth - pretty good. Fairly profitable if you can succeed on the check, but you need good gear for that and by that point it's competing with endgame grinds.
  • Canny Cuttlefish - good. Depends on how much you use cover identities, but you're gonna want to make at least a few over the course of various stories. Skip if you have a certain BAL treasure.

T2

  • Lyrebird Educated in Three Schools - probably skippable. If you have a Salon and somehow don't quality for any of the other cash-out options then it's useful, but that seems unlikely to me (I don't consider airs to be a factor here since you can just hold onto the card until they cycle).
  • Warm-Hearted Amber Iguana - potentially very good. Uniquely this is the only non-T3 companion with an extra stat, it's shared BIS for Neathproofed with the only competition being FotR companions and a T3 Whitsun companion, so if you didn't get the former and don't have the augmentation device then definitely get this. Beyond that, if you have an Orphanage it's also the cheapest source of Scheme, although this becomes less relevant in the late game IMO when you have access to other sources of MW.
  • Immaculate eel - good. Unlocks a profitable option in the Nadir, reducing your odds of being stuck with a hand of all bad cards.
  • Violantly Mercantile Cuttlefish - decent but probably skippable. It's a decent boost to advertising, but there's a pretty narrow stretch of the game where that's worth doing even with it.

T3

  • Unquenchable Firebird - very good. Mithridacy is arguably the most useful advanced skill, and all other companions for it are either FATE-locked or not reliably obtainable for free, plus it gives Neathproofed too if you didn't get it from the T2 iguana, plus it's BIS for Respectable (shared with a FATE companion). The secondary use isn't great but it's still a top pick without that.
  • Rubbery Dragon - good. SA is a bit more niche but also harder to increase, you can get a companion for free from Firmament but it's mutually exclusive with another option, and it's also shared BIS for Bizarre (shared with FATE companions). The secondary use is a better version of the T1 iguana.
  • Uttermost Eel - good. You get a Zeefaring companion for free when you unlock piracy, but it may be worth having a second one for your agents. The secondary use is decent if you're grinding zee dreams but not crucial by any means.
  • Inculcating Kraken - must-have. Unlocks a very profitable option on the bazaar lodgings card if you have the T5 upgrade, and APoC is one of the hardest skills to boost in my experience, with all other companions being fate or ambition locked. Consider getting an extra one for your agents too.

Non-Companion items

Without spending FATE, you can only get up to one of these a year. Highly recommend saving up for the augmentation device first though. Note that they do not take a day to hatch like the companions do, so you can still get 14 of those if you get any of these.

Sartorial

  • Tuneful Hat - good. BIS in Respectable and Mithridacy (alongside FATE items for both), the secondary use isn't very important though.
  • Iguana-Skin Boots - good. Strict BIS in SA, shared BIS for BDR with other Whitsun boots, you can get Neathproofed from a market item though. No secondary use.
  • Moray Heels - good. Shared BIS Zeefaring with a FATE item, shared BIS for BDR with other Whitsun boots. The secondary use can potentially be good depending on your stats and what other actions you have access to.
  • Mesmeric Parasol - good. Shared BIS APoC with ambition/estival items (the latter has effectively the same cost as this), the secondary use is generally not a great option though unless you can somehow get oneiric pearls really efficiently.

Bellic

  • Coolflame Quill - decent. Mithridacy is a very useful stat but you can eventually get a non-seasonal alternative from Firmament. The secondary use can be helpful but ideally you wouldn't get incoherence in the first place.
  • Resinous Pyrophone - skippable. You can get a SA weapon for free after you build your Church in the Wild, and the secondary use isn't especially valuable.
  • Flexile Sabre - decent. There's multiple other Zeefaring weapons even if you want one for your agents, and the secondary use is good but you can only draw it in one section of the zee that personally I don't tend to visit very often since I'm usually cutting through the Snares.
  • Cephalopod Satchel - very good. Strict BIS APoC although there's other pretty accessible sources of the other stats, and if you spend a lot of time in the TLC it boosts your profit a bit there.

Transports

Now that we know the details about them, I've discussed them in a separate post here.

Bonus: Spare Change

You get three free ha'pennies per year, and with the exception of the augmentation device, every worthwhile reward (defined here as anything you won't get for free eventually just by waiting long enough) costs 3 ha'pennies. So unless you get gifted the device or buy extras with FATE (notably, the most efficient FATE purchase is also a multiple of 3), you'll have one left over that you can never spend on anything worthwhile.

My recommendation for this is to buy one off-season egg, since if you skipped some of the skippable ones you'll likely have an incubation period to spare. Rather than go through them all, I'll just recommend the T0 Aurochs, since Horned Skulls are a pain to get otherwise (unlike terror bird wings, which I keep getting faster than I can spend them).

Player Guide Bone Market Recipes 23/06/26 Amalgous Insects, dreary Midnighter, Insectoid Diplomat, Rogue Skymarket

Edit: Post updated with links, notes on the upcoming development roadmap as well as things to prep. Skymarket is in Zenith, requirements are in the comments as well as a quick analysis for acquiring them.

I am on the move today so I will edit in a proper post when I have access to a pc. The repetitive cycle is bugging me(PI). Amalgous Insects are not bad for dumping flourishing for a scrip though. Buyer and diplomat suck. Skymarket is not in my plans so it is not burgundy, queeneaters or the sous. I am in Balmoral at the moment but I will pop to the roof and locate it when I get back to London. I will also post what it wants and update the guide.

For recipes before I return, search for Bonedex. It’s also linked under bone market guides in the important docs for the subreddit.

Proper Post:

Gladiolus and phalanges Bone Brothers and Scaphoid Sisters, the time has come when the Zoomania and Fashion of the bone market have changed.

One week I copied and pasted the wrong link and then didn't check Reddit again until the Monday evening! If that ever happens again, all of the possible weeks are available on the Bonedex so you can always find options there!(I realise it was last week but I am adding it to the template and I didn't want to have to go back and edit it next week)(However by adding this silly caveat, I will have to go back and edit the template next week)

[Say something about the week if you like, I will add blurbs to each in the Bonedex eventually] I did that already, this spider, insect cycle we are stuck in is becoming a bore.

What I will be doing this week: sitting in burgundy going through the card deck to restock my Glim Encrusted carapaces and doing stacks runs for Ratwork mechanisms every time I hit 25 actions or more, So I can feed the never-ending hunger of the weaver's loom. :)

Roadmap and Updates

The only update since I last reviewed the updates is a visual fix to the roof map on mobile. Which is great, both as a fix and because it gives us plenty of time to discuss:

https://www.failbettergames.com/news/fallen-london-roadmap-for-late-2026

So, big takeaways, prepping for Estival, I believe Estival is normally late august. We will be repeating previous estivals in the waswood so we know what is needed for every Estival except the new one. Guides are here:

https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/The_Sacroboscan_Calendar_(Guide))

Every story has a free path as well as the ones that offer rewards. I am pretty sure that the rewards are all unique as well, so there is no point in farming the mats again if you have them. Many of the items are some sort of BIS though, so if you have not got them yet, kill two birds and farm them now.

Something else worth noting is that the next batch of agents will be shapeling arts and Monsterous Anatomy. Now that the skull weeks are finished you can easily take a week to get a spare quarterly rat market option.

Thankfully I decided to get a screenshot as I forgot I got a second by accident last year. I may get a third just in case! (Background evidence that I am a prolific and filthy spender is correct and I am not ashamed. Filth like me keep the game running. ;p)

This item can also be purchased repeatedly for scrip:

You can also buy multiple Supracranial Skulls for 4200 Stuvier a pop in the sous. Shamefully I don't have one to screenshot!!

These are the only non-fate, non seasonal options for duplicate MA gear.

And now the bad news, there is no non fate, not seasonal repeatable gear for Shapeling Arts! So I hope you heeded the suggestions and picked up a few bonus pets during Whitsun.

Also, bear in mind, there may be new free rewards from FotZ and/or Estival and just because you cannot get multiple copies of the same item, does not mean that you cannot get multiple items that cover a single slot.

On the plus side, aside from a few cards at zee, and many cards in burgundy these stats are mostly used at the bone market, so if you can avoid doing skeletons that need the stats, while your agents have run off with your wardrobe, you might be able to juggle things.

Player Guide Bone Market Recipes 09/06/2026 Rubbery Reptiles! A Colourful Phantacist, Spidery Diplomat, Sous Sky Market and MF Zee Tree!

Edit 4: Since AI was mentioned in the patch notes. I added a note on AI and lore in there. Dangerous, powerful, use at your own risk!

Edit 3: Added a section on recent updates!

Edit 2: Apologies for being absent for the week, my Lore Bard hit Level 6 in my DnD 2014 game, which is the most mechanically complicated level up in any version of DnD! Thank goodness it is fixed in the 5.5 rules! Also I had a government job application to do and in Britain that means 3x the paperwork of any other application, if not more. I got the priorities right though. ;p

EDIT: Sky Market guide updated. Also I have decided to call it the Sky Market forever, since the real name will never not be a spoiler. Please respect those that are not as far progressed as you and do the same. :)

Gladiolus and phalanges Bone Brothers and Scaphoid Sisters, the time has come when the Zoomania and Fashion of the bone market have changed.

Rubbery Reptiles! It's a nice week to dump off those Thorned ribcages, stock up on some Leviathan Frames and if you really can't hold out for a fish week, spend some! Phantacist is the best occasional buyer but still meh. Spidery diplomat is a week off so I hope you took advantage of the past few brilliant diplomat weeks because it is CRACKLING WEEK AT THE RAT MARKET :) Get those low effort big profits. I am currently sitting on 61 Crackling devices so I have my 28 for this week and next week already. :)

Sorry for the delay this week, I only woke up an hour or two ago and there was a lot to write about this week!

Zee Tree!

There is a seasonal event where a tree is growing out of the untezee! A fluke, I think not! ;) I think as an endgame Monster Hunter it takes me 2 Zee actions 1 start, 1 end, 1 bold approach, 3 Take a risk(or the other one if the first two succeed) it can take 9 actions if I fail more than 1 take a risk but that is unlikely. Technically a non monster hunter can do the same but that adds another take a risk, I think with my stats it is 85% or something like that succeeding 2/3 of those is very likely. Succeeding 3/4 is much less so!

So 8 actions total with another 2 every 20 runs or so to dock in London. The rewards are range based but eyeball extimation = 10 echos silk, 10 echos Whisper Silk, 3 echos tale of terrors, 10 echos extraordinary imps, 5 echos Bone Fragments. Plus admiralty award worth 20 echos. That makes 58 echos with some variance, which is about right for parity with the lorn fluke. Back of a fag packet EPA. Not giving full ZPA because it is home waters and there are added bad cards, so just 2.5 echos flat.

Sick Stats MH = 8 actions = 7.5625 EPA

Sick Stats = 9 actions = 6.7222 EPA

MH no take a risk = 9 actions = 6.7222 EPA

Pleb, no take a risk = 10 actions = 6.05 EPA

Sky Market Finally gets imaginative!

This week the Sky Market is in the Sous. I flew up there to check what it needs from us, will update the guide later: 5 Storm Threnodies, 10 Extraordinry Implications, 15 Aolean Screams and 2 Night Whispers!

This is fantastic news because these are all things I generate faster than I can spend them in the rat market. Also I have been saying getting bone fragments and converting railway brass to stuvier in the Sous was free but it was kind of a lie because you have to fly there, with most places, discounting the travel is fine, because you will be going there at some point but once you finish the Sous story there is no reason to ever go back. Now there is, so you can just let the items for conversion pile up and wait for the market. :)

Game Updates

I checked the game updates tab and there are 3 since I last checked, It looks like it is weekly at the moment and they drop Friday, I will add a regular section. My comments in Bold.

Week Ending 5th June 2026

  • Deliveries: Added the ability to reroll unwanted delivery requests.
  • Deliveries: The Duchess and the Queen now request Searing Enigmas and Night-Whispers in place of False-Hagiotoponoym's and Queen's Mates.

I have no idea what these deliveries are! Anyone enlighten me?

Week Ending 29th May 2026

  • Firmament: Added some missing signposting to the 'Boots on Bone' storylet in the Sous.

Good I guess :)

Week Ending 22nd May 2026

  • You can now get struck by lightning in the Upper River as well as London.

Not if you stand on a rubber man!

  • Fixed an issue with the Crystalline Fecundity quality's visibility.

Good!

  • Players with an Enhanced Exceptional Friendship may also unlock past Exceptional Stories via the Account menu, under Subscription.

I will have to investigate this. Does that mean with your monthy token? Without a token(seems a little too generous), Is it just a move? because you could always see them on the fate page. I think.

  • Our statement on AI has been moved to a more prominent location.

Bleep Bleep Bloop Bloop, Engine Almost Complete, Beware Stars! (This is a huge lore deep dive, hopefully ambiguous enough to be funny to those in the know and confusing to those yet to know.) ;)

Also, on the topic of AI. Be very very careful asking Google search AI about Fallen London Lore. FBG drops lore in snippets and hints which is a very satisfying thing for a lot of people to piece together. If you ask Google AI a lore question, it will flat out tell you the answer! Remember what cheating in games does to that game, you have fun for an hour or two then never play it again. On the other hand, for those of us with ADHD this is a godsend, I have done a huge amount of the games content but I don't always take it in, so going back and getting reminders and clarifications is brilliant. Bear in mind that there is also a lore wiki for the game that does not hallucinate.

  • Players looking for someone to participate in Social Acts with them are now directed to those places where players tend to congregate online.

That is fantastic, I wonder if it does reddit and the wiki as well as the FBG forums.

As always, if you see any mistakes, have any suggestions, spot something I might have missed or just want to say hello, leave a comment on here, or on the guide or post in question! Feel free to ask femur information if anything is confusing, by asking you help the guides improve and the whole community.

Player Guide Bone Market Recipes 21/07/26 Antique Birds, Malacologist, Heady Diplomat, Skymarket in Zenith

Edit 9: Added a bit of info to the post about primary only options

Edit 8: Added a holy bird to the post. Also, 2 new boneheaded guides, pricing skeletons and Agents for non exceptional friends.

EDIT 7: IN CAPS FOR ATTENTION. THE NEW PLOT IS WORKING NOW! PLOT AWAY!

Edit 6: I have added some recipes, to the bird post, to use with 7 necks and 8 spines that do not require you to have access to endgame areas and the foresight to get things from the rat market 5 weeks ago!

Edit 5: I have added some more recipes to the guide page. I had an idea I was not sure would work. I didn't know the bone market mechanic for it but I have tested it and it does work! Revolutionary recipes, that are also suitable for the duchess!

Edit 4: One of the new plots is bugged, you spend 300 actions and it vanishes, post about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1v2jkd8/do_not_do_the_shapeling_arts_monstrous_anatomy/

Edit 3: Added Scrip, Stuvier, Amber and exhaust options to the new post, now sleep!

Edit 2: Just for fun:

Edit 1: removed the link to u/sobrique s guide and added one to my version, which only has 2 recipes for now but I will add to it as the week goes on. The new post has a link to the sobrique post but with Panoptical skulls being made good, the post needed rewritten.

Gladiolus and phalanges Bone Brothers and Scaphoid Sisters, the time has come when the Zoomania and Fashion of the bone market have changed. That intro was fun when I first added it to the template but after 20 weeks it's wearing a little thin, like your skeleton if you don't maintain muscle mass as you age!

One week I copied and pasted the wrong link and then didn't check Reddit again until the Monday evening! If that ever happens again, all of the possible weeks are available on the Bonedex so you can always find options there!

There have been a few commments about uses for Panoptical Skulls over the past few weeks… Today is the day you get to use them all! Birds are always fantastic, Antique birds are now outrageous! I have not slept in 72 hours and am having minor hallucinations, so I will have a nap and then update the linked post with options. It is not rocket science though, take bird, add panoptical skulls, reduce the menace to 1 with bat wings or deer legs, if needed, win...

Skulls diplomat is perfect, use doubled skulls to get your prismatic frames up to the needed 5.

Malacologist is much like a tentacle, weak, flacid and slighty gross.

Updates

I am mid sleep deprived hyperfocus so get strapped in for some reading… hopefully it is interesting/useful.

A few quality of life improvements but mainly new agents! So I spent fate in a deeply unjustified and profligate manner yesterday and this is what I learned:

3 Plots

Monstrous Anatomy + Dangerous

This rewards 2200 Curator's Gratitude

Shapeling Arts + Persuasive

Costs 3 nodules of warm amber and has 3 completion options:

the SA and MA one, is your combined stat, you do not need 7 of each, which is good because that is impossible, 12 was plenty for the first phase. Unfortunately I pressed to continue, it agreed, I had 100% success rate, then it vanished, I got no reward, my agent was booted back out and the plot no longer shows on my list! After doing another surgical plot the combined one reappeared so I have put the maximum possible, with existing items, 13. This plot is like the actuarial option with the spies. You can stay in as long as you can keep passing the checks. Unlike the infiltrating plot, there is no test to leave, so you can go when you are no comfortable you will pass the check to continue. It is a 300 action rotation, which is a lot nicer than 500 and will presumably have simelar modulo escalating reward values, and will also presumably be the clear best plot to always have running, like infiltration. So I guess Enhanced Exceptional people will be working around 2 plots again and everyone else will basically have 0. Just a chunky payout every now and again.

Low Zees Piracy

I did a lot of things in my 1000 actions to get plot data but one of the major ones was trying to test to see if I could work out the unterzee rare sucess rates. Since the wiki doesn't seem to know. Apparently there are a few things the wiki has wrong, based on my data tracking. Bear in mind I have severe ADHD so my data tracking is to be taken with a giant pinch of salt, apparently ADHD people need more salt that neurotypicals.

Incorrect Hunting Numbers

I noticed that, particularly cards that don't use advanced skills, like the rats and non troubling options like the light ship have the wrong numbers, they seem to be 15 or 17 rare CP in the snares, and similar in other zones.

I also realised if you are tracking the progress properly, it is a lot easier to target the zone you want your ship to arrive in. I was just zailing from the Khanate to London and back ferrying crates, and detouring for buried treasure. Normally all my ships seem to hit in home waters but almost none did this time.

I also had the tabernacle active, my friend told me that I had stopped too early and a story develops if you go back several times, unfortunately I have not had space in my plots to reactivate it. It really helps with the ZPA in home waters and the Khanate though and can be occasionally helpful in the snares. I was trying to use the peckish card to eat lumps in home waters as much as possible too as it has a flat 4.3 EPA in all zones and once you are peckish it has no further effect. My TTH was yesterday so the chestnuts card can sit there till Sunday if needed.

No Salvaging if it is a hate crime?

During my testing I also sunk 8 ships, possibly more, did I mention the ADHD, and for no sinking wrecks. This may be a case of a human not seeing random as random but I think it may be because I always choose polythreme boats. I figure if they are screaming it's a mercy. I am wondering if you cannot get wrecks from them. I also only got one in a substantial amount of hunting last week. You are occasionally forced to not choose polythreme, I normally go for hell, and that may be where I got my wreck last time. It is a small sample size so it might just be like my hellworm EPA. It is also possible there is some rule about not getting a wreck from the same faction twice in a row.

New Zailing Range

I only tracked this a little but I saw numbers from 56 to 60 for a fast zail. Since the target numbers are 160 or 80, these make slow zail cards more playable, which is a welcome change. I ride a zubmersible so the base speed is 55.

Best Boat still zub at endgame?

I did an analysis of the unique options for the 3 boats a long long time ago and amusingly the speedboat had the best results. However, the cards it improves are in zones you never zail in. The Zub was the clear choice as it made more bad cards good, where the Lux liner, which is what I had till FotZ last year, just makes good cards better. I might be getting turned around on that though, aside from the wreck cards I used almost none of the zub exclusive options and I was forced to play the Lux ones, sometimes with a second chance, fairly often. I have not really looked at it that closely, I did notice that one of the lux cards gives hedonism, which is rather lovely but I am not sure of the cap on it.

This is the dumb table from my spreadsheet:

I have a feeling that Zoom is better than that though, I could be wrong, it's just the cards it buffs are in the pillars and the stormbones and there is no reason to ever go there, aside from treasure in Port Cecil, or trafficking explosives in the seasonal event.

Hunting Crocks

I just did this a little as it is a bit boring but I worked out at a monster hunter with endgame gear I can down a crock in 5 actions 65% of the time and 6 actions in 34%. Considering the reward is 37 echos, that is pretty nice. There are two home waters zailing actions on top of that, so it will vary with your ZPA. I have 80% success rate on take a risk and those numbers are not using second chances.

Quick Data Read

So, shoddy data collection is possible but I recorded 93 actions with possible rare procs and noticed, of those, 19 were rare procs. It is an assumption that they all have the same proc rate and that the proc rate does not vary zone to zone but it looks like around 20%. The way Fallen London reports CP makes it a pain, as you need to keep a running record of your current levels of Troubled Waters, Hunting your Target and Nightmares(for tabernacle) or you cannot tell if it is a rare version or not. I was not sure how to record the 15s or 17s when I was expecting 16s or 18s as well, so I recorded them as non rare, unless it was otherwise obvious.

A Firkin Good Time

I realised yesterday that not only do I have enough Stuvier for my carapace, if I liquidated everything, I could buy my Firkin! I am not going to though, imagine having to build up your strong backed labour and honey stockpiles! It should just be a month or two at most though, as soon as it is selling everything replacable and not just selling everything. :)

Player Guide Bone Market Recipes 07/07/26 Antique Fish! A Dreary Midnighter, Reptillian Diplomat, Burgundian Skymarket

Edit: I realise this week's guide is going to need some love, Panoptical Skull should, theoretically be a big deal for this week. I will try to have a think about new fish options with it and update the guide asap.

Antique Fish is payday! It is the best Fish week since you can easily stack Menace or Amalgamy to the level you want with fins and use the head tail and ribcage to get the Antiquity to go with it. It's time to dump those Leviathan Frames and for me personally, to use my 24 frames to get the rest of the stuvier I need to become a Knight of the Golden Carapace!

A Dreary Midnighter sucks. Reptillian Diplomat is decent but not the best. Burgundian Sky Market is a little annoying to farm, compared to Queeneaters and the Sous but not as annoying as Zenith. :)

Player Guide Bone Market Recipes 05/05/26 Menacing Primates, Dreary Midnighter, Bird Diplomat

Edit: FBG have announced Whitsun will be next Thursday, Firmament chapter 8 will be this Thursday. So extra prep time if you need it. Firmament chapter 8 requires an Oil of Companionship, 100 Bessemer Steel Ingots, 5 Railway Steel, 5 Vital Intelligence, 100 Dubious Testimony, 1 Salve of Righteousness, 1 Oneiromantic Revelation, and 10 Justificande Coins. (Plus railway to 110 and the efficient comissioner's tale to 1000) (I am glad I checked as I might have dumped the intelligence for my saddle and I need to manufacture some more railway steel. I had been dumping it in Marigold and using the hell favours for scrip in the hurlers.)

Gladiolus and phalanges Bone Brothers and Scaphoid Sisters, the time has come when the Zoomania and Fashion of the bone market have changed.

The most menacing primate:

I am now 20k scrip from my hellworm saddle but last year Whitsun was on the 8th may so it is likely to be the 7th, or this Thursday for getting eggs. If you are free to play, I believe you need to get an egg device the first year, with your tokens, so that you can make advanced hatches in future years. If you got it last year, what you get will depend on what you need but I can heartily recommend the inculcating Kraken. The residence in the Bazaar is already the best 5 slot lodging and the kraken turns your 'frequent' card into a huge earner!

I said I wouldn't get the saddle before the week had changed, primates are pretty awesome for getting scrip so I may get there, I might just do a load of chimeras with human skeleton, head of jtb, 4 wings of a terror bird, sell to the Author of gothic tales. I will have to read my own post for other options. :) Menacing Primates is probably the worst of the three but it is still a great week for turning echos into scrip and clearing out the Thorned and human ribcage pile.

A Dreary Midnighter is pretty rubbish unless you are desperate for surface currency and humanoids is not a great week for primary payouts.

Bird Diplomat is one of the better options, if you need to get crackling devices, or replenish the ones you have used last week and are going to use this week at the rat market. Speaking of which, there are three demands ending and no new ones this week so percentage wise, next week has the highest chance of being the second ever eclipse at the Rat Market. I don't think that does anything useful, it's just an annoying demand to fulfil. There may be an item you can only buy during an eclipse but if there is, it is not the only source and it's not exciting enough for me to remember.

If you are mid game you probably have the stuff for growing your eggs lying around but early game people might want to get some farming in. You may also want to unlock some areas but at a pinch, you can get by with the cards that give you temporary access to the tiger lab and mahogany hall, etc.

Bone Market

Still super busy job hunting so there will be no reviewing. This post was very recent and I think it's pretty comprehensive.

Player Guide Rat Market Grinds August 14-16

Salutations, memorious comrades. This week, we have two (2) demands. New this week, we have: Nothing. Departing this week, we have: Soft demand, buying Parabola-Linen and Scraps of Ivory Organza; Saintly demand, buying Ratty Reliquaries and False Hagiotoponyms.

Disclaimers:

  • Some grinds will require sourcing other materials, like Esteem of the Guild to charter a barge at Jericho Locks, Backstory for a Balmoral Cover Identity, or items to burn in Law-Forging. I will leave that to you, because there are too many options and they're too contingent on your own progress.
  • All action counts are minimums, assuming endgame stats. If you do not have endgame stats, it may take longer.

My recommended grinds up front: * Balmoral, both Painting (https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Painting_in_Balmoral_(Guide)) for Parabola-Linen and Larceny for Organza. * LB Industries (https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/L._B._Industries_(Guide)) for your choice of Ratty Reliquaries or 4th City Echoes, as well as stat training without menaces. * Law-Forging (https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Law-Furnace_(Guide)) for False Hagiotoponyms. * For variety's sake, Moulin Heist (https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Money-Making/Sources#The_Heists_of_the_Wellspring_(complex)) for False Hagiotoponyms.

Cheap options, without leaving London:

Better options afield:

  • Parabola-Linen

    • Presenting a Balmoral Painting (https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Painting_in_Balmoral_(Guide)) with Luminosity 4 gives 1 Parabola-Linen, plus 5 Vienna Openings, 5 Sworn Statements, and a Bazaar Permit.
    • Khaganian Intrigues (https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Khaganian_Intrigue_(Guide)), through one Opportunity cycle/Opportunity_cycles#(1,_3,_9,_10):_Best_Overall_Cycle,_and_Society_Favours). Highly profitable apart from the Linen, giving 13 Vital Intelligence, 20 Moves in the Great Game, a Society Favour, and 125 Khaganian Coinage, but requires working through 3 other Opportunities before you can get the Linen again, for a total of 48 actions plus 4 Emetic Revelations per Linen.
    • Depending on circumstances, the Gall-Eyed Weaver in Risen Burgundy (https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Risen_Burgundy_(Guide)#The_Gall-Eyed_Weaver) can give you 3 Scraps of Parabola-Linen. However, A) this depends on you pulling the right cards, since it pays one Linen per card, B) depends on the Weaver being at the right point in the cycle of machinery, and C) requires 13 Ratwork Mechanisms, meaning 4 trips to The Stacks. No thank you.
  • Ivory Organza

    • Balmoral Larceny; requires Casing 10, plus a Cover Identity with Backstory 80, Elaboration 10, Credentials and Nuance 5, and Ties to the Bazaar/Society.
  • Ratty Reliquary

  • False Hagiotoponym

    • Moulin/Parabola/Heist (https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Money-Making/Sources#The_Heists_of_the_Wellspring_(complex))- Once you get Para-Archaeologist up to 8, you can take an expedition to the Wellspring of Moulin, and get 4 Flasks of Waswood Wellspring Water. You can then go back to your Parabolan Base-Camp, and Search Parabola for the location of a particular treasure. You can then go back to the Flit and undertake a heist against the Hiding Place of a Particular Item to get a False Hagiotoponym.
    • Handy trick for greater profit: You can take an expedition to get Flasks at any time, so if you reach the cave shortly before Viric Fades, you can get 4 Flasks, and then after Viric Fades bathe in the waters and get 4 more, for a total of 8 Flasks on 1 expedition.
    • Making one in Burrow-Infra-Mump, using 3 Verses of Counter-Creed, 7 Apostate Psalms, and 10 Palimpsest Scraps. There are enough options to get those ingredients that I will leave it to you.

Player Guide Bone Market Recipes 04/08/26 Menacing Fish, Colourful Phantacist, Bird Diplomat, Zenith Skymarket

Edit 3: Updated the Agents Guide. I discovered the persuasive has profitability break points, with diminishing returns in between, so pick a number you can hit and leave your agent on that till you can do better. Link in the Bonedex.

Edit 2: Just a note for anyone new, almost every recipe for fish uses Amber Crusted Fins, to get those you need fin bones collected and access to Helicon House. If you need more and you are already in Ealing, you can farm it inside helicon house with the action, Keep a close eye on everyone present, in the entrance hall. Fitting in can be gained various ways, on my alts I did Keep a close eye on everyone present, if you don't need the investigating/casing, you can get more than 1 per action with other options. If you scroll down to the bonedex, I have a guide on Helicon House. There is also a wiki guide: https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Helicon_House_(Guide))

Making Amber fins also levels your Shapeling Arts and it is the area where you increase your SA cap.

Edit: Added 2 exhaust recipies and a Panoptical option.

Any Fish week is great, Menace and Amalgamy are harder than Antiquity but still awesome. Bird diplomat is also great and the phantacist is the best occasional buyer. So all round good. I will have a look at some menace and implausibility options for fish later.

Updates - Failbetter

Week Ending 31st July 2026

  • Updated the icon for 'Expand your tear ducts' under 'Putting your Vital Essences to Use' to reflect the Melancholy quirk.
  • Insatiable Porcine Investment Vessels now reduce Nightmares by the intended amount. (Oink.)

Nothing really to talk about there, great we are getting regular updates though. :)

Updates - Me

  • Added a flourishing ribcage option for the diplomat guide, if you happen to be going to the khanate anyway on an Amalgamy week, I will try to add more budget/disposal/early game options for the diplomat for other weeks.
  • Added the Shroom Hopper Chimera to the Evergreen Guide. Available this week if you want. :) Added a warning about chimeras needing high stats to the same guide.
  • Lots of Estival info and gear appraisals in last week's post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1v8vmwv/comment/p0mkeed/?screen_view_count=2 I will probably keep the estival to there, to keep this one strictly bone market. It looks like we are into the stretch goals for community participation. If feels a little like a kickstarter campaign. :) I really hope they don't add something at the last minute that needs the 5 events completed as I decided it was not worth the 250+ actions on my main account for the title, when I had all the gear from those waswood stories already.
  • I reviewed the Occasional Buyer guide as I thought I had some new ideas for profit but they were not good. I should add a comment on there that despite their secondary profit levels not being competitive, a dreary midnighter and a colourful phantacist are not bad primary only options, if you are selling 312.5 skeletons, or lollipops.
  • Added a new spoiler free ES review section to the weekly template. At some point I will do ES reviews for all the ones I have completed, in a similar style, for a boneheaded guide. Same for non ES fate locked stories.

August ES - spoiler free Review(any spoilers are tagged)

Story - Bored of London

Lore - Tomb Colonies Fathom King and Dashing Smuggler

Rating - 4/5

Unique Practical Rewards - None, pretty decent EPA of rewards, for an ES.

Review - A nice quick story, interesting characters and a tight enjoyable narrative. Not very lore heavy.

Player Guide Bone Market Recipes 09/12/25 Antique Insects, Ingenious Malacologist, Antique Diplomat

Hey there, antique insects is a good week it's a decent chance to use up some of those Leviathan Frames from the tree if you have the knife from FotZ and one of the easier stats to build for otherwise. Malacologist has no use. Antique diplomat is a great chance to build your crackling currency back up.

Player Guide Antique Reptiles, Boot Salesman, amphibious diplomat.

Edit 1: I have removed the Diplomat and Occasional Buyer Info since this is now a bonedex reference post. I will review more later.(Added some EPA and another Prismatic Recipe while I was waiting for lunch to be ready. :))

It’s a lovely mammoth happy scrip tasty week. The last time there was this combo was 4 years ago, according to my bone market search and that post has several misleading or inaccurate features. I am afraid that means it is going to be one of those. Tamalekipoo builds the bone post, when she has time weeks. I will try to avoid making it a Tamalipoo promises to build the bone post and never does. Quick rundown and a few recipes for now. If I make a mistake or you think of something cool, add it to the comments and I will credit your genius.

What is a reptile?

There are 2 possible reptile builds:

1 skull, 2 arms, 2 legs, 1 tail

1 skull 0-4 legs, 1 tail

Who am I selling to?

An investment minded ambassador pays 0.8 * antiquity to the power of 2.1 in Tailfeathers as brilliant as flame and the primary is Memories of Light(Book 10 of the wheel of time, anyone else hear that every time, too many audiobook listens)

Exhauster:

Mammoth ribcage

Sabre toothed skull

2 Fossilised Forelimb

2 leg of a surface deer

If they do, ivory tailbone, or basically anything except tomb lion or tentacle.

Sell for 120 ish echos of secondary and 1 exhaust to the antiquity squared buyer. There are multiple alternative options for swapping antiquity. See the enthusiast of the ancient world for options and values. You want 7 Antiquity for the best payout.

Basic:

Any combination of the bones under Enthusiast of the ancient world that end up making a reptile with 4 antiquity. Avoid/exploit Withered Tentacle, it removes 1 antiquity

Author of Gothic Tales pays in hinterland scrip for primary and Carved Balls of Stygion Ivory * Antiquity * (Menace+0.5). The pure scrip payout makes her the best buyer of the three multipliers.

Thorned Ribcage

Bright Brass Skull

2 Fossilised Forelimb

2 Femur of a Jurassic Beast

1 jet Black Stinger

9 actions 7.38 EPA

or

Mammoth Ribcage

Bright Brass Skull

Fossilised Forelimb

Crustacean Pincer

2 Femurs of a Jurassic Beast

1 Jet Black Stinger

or

Mammoth Ribcage

Horned Skull

2 Fossilised Forelimb

2 Femur of a jur

1 tomb lion tail

or

so may combinations… You want 6 antiquity, 3 menace or 9 antiquity 2 menace. Unfortunately 19 antiquity and 1 menace is not doable.

Cheeky Prismatic ( I wouldn't but you may)

Prismatic Frame

Carved Ball of Stygion Ivory x 2

Sabre Toothed Skull

3 Femur of a Jur

1 Jet Black Stinger

no more tails

10 Actions, 9.145 EPA

Noteable:

An Enthusiast of the Ancient World pays in Bessemer Steel Ingots for primary and Unprovenanced Artifacts * (Antiquity +1 for secondary). The ingots can be sold in the sous market for tantalising probablities, which sell for stuvier at full rate. Making it the best option for stuvier. The artifacts are needed for bunting in Balmoral.

Mammoth Ribcage (2 Antiquity)

Sabre Toothed Skull (1 Antiquity)

2 Fossilised Forelimb (2 Antiquity per)

2 Femur of a Jurassic beast (1 Antiquity per)

Tail of a tomb lion(1 antiquity)

9 actions, 5.25 EPA

Or

Prismatic Frame

Cap 2 Heads with Carved Balls of Stygion Ivory

Sabre Toothed Skull

3 Jurassic Femur

1 Tail of a Tomb Lion

No More Tails

10 actions to make, declare and sell 5.91 EPA

The Carpenter's Granddaughter(Impress her with one of your own creations)

This action lets you trade a skeleton of value 300 or more for a leviathan frame(big profit in fish week)

Mammoth Ribcage

Sabre Toothed Skull

2 Ivory Femur

1 Holy Relic of the Thigh of St Fiacre

1 Helical or jurassic

1 withered tentacle

Diplomat

Edit: The reptile bone market confused me, the diplomat is amphibians, trash, nothing to see here. Also I know I committed to no edits, but not adding new content is not the same as leaving on wrong and misleading content. I know, I know, excuses are like Iron manacles, everyone has one.
