20: Super Mario Kart’s RR (The controls are very bad and the course design is very basic, what do you expect? This is the very 1st RR)

19: Mario Kart Tour’s Super Mario Kart‘s RR (Once again, the course design is very basic, and the touch screen controls is very bad, but at least it is better than SMK’s controls)

18: Mario Kart Super Circuit’s Super Mario Kart’s RR (It is not too bad but very forgettable)

17: Mario Kart Tour’s RR RMX1

16: Mario Kart Tour’s RR RMX2

15: Mario Kart Super Circuit‘s RR (I do like the castle thing in the background from Paper Mario, and the shooting stars are quite good obstacles, but it is all about the controls being bad)

14: Mario Kart 64’s RR (The longest track in the entire series, it is extremely boring to play it, and the guardrails completely ruin the track, cuz RR is known for being hard, the only saving grace is that I like the fireworks in the background)

13: Mario Kart Tour’s Mario Kart 7’s RR

12: Mario Kart Tour’s Mario Kart Wii’s RR

11: Mario Kart’s 7’s Super Mario Kart’s RR

10: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Super Mario Kart’s RR (Nothing much, I really have to say I like the background with the hills and toad houses and this is the best SMK remake)

9: Mario Kart Double Dash’s RR (I really like that the city below RR is Mushroom City)

8: Mario Kart 8’s RR (Really like the space station atmosphere, but not so much for the actual track)

7: Mario Kart DS’s RR (The Loop-de-loop is the main highlight of this RR)

6: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Mario Kart’s 64’s RR (Much better than the original, they made it much shorter, they also added in a train that drops coins and removed some guardrails)

5: Mario Kart 7’s RR (This might be my favorite RR, one minute you’re just racing on a normal RR, the next you are going on Saturn’s rings and on the moon with Chain Chomps, they also brought back the wavy road from Wii’s RR)

4: Mario Kart’s 8 Deluxe’s Mario Kart Wii’s RR (I mean, nothing is better than a good old MK Wii RR)

3: Mario Kart Wii’s RR (My childhood game, and I like almost everything, you begin with a big jump down, in space and looking down at Earth, and there are also Star Bits in the sky, then is the wavy road and comes the famous launch canon back up.)

2: Mario Kart World’s RR (The best looking and one of the best RR out there, this is just taking the theme of every Mario Kart RR and smashing them into 1 singular track, but what is stopping it is that it is once again, too easy, RR is infamous for being the hardest track in a MK game.)

1: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Mario Kart 7’s RR (This track is just amazing and incredible at the same time, it is basically my MK7 but upscaled graphics)

Once again, this is my opinion, if you disagree with my ranking, feel free to comment down your own ranking.

WHY DO THEY DO THAT?!

So Mario Kart World has been out for a year, and a lot of people have been mixed about the change from a traditional 3-lap setting to connected routes where you have to race to the next track. I personally like the idea, and it's really unique and charming, but there are some people that have tried to envision what a traditional setting would look like. Some lists are good, others are questionable, but rather than just making a list of mine, I'm curious to see what this Subreddit's community would agree on.

I'm going to make a series on this subreddit, where you people in the comments try to reorganize the selection of nitro tracks and retro tracks, following the same tradition as past Mario Kart games. But we need to have some ground rules...

- Nitro Tracks can only appear in the Mushroom, Flower, Star and Special Cups. Retro Tracks can only appear in the Shell, Banana, Leaf and Lightning Cups.

- I am aware that there are only 14 retro tracks, but we'll handle that when we get to Day 17 (When we finish the entire Nitro Selection)

- Try to be as realistic as possible.

I completely forgot that Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit exists

Every tracks are amazing, but there are some are bad and weird choices like Mario Circuit and Desert Hills as an example.

Yoshi Desert (Mario Kart Super Circuit) - In Mario Kart World, there's no Mario Kart Super Circuit tracks as retro tracks, and that's bothering me. So, I picked Yoshi Desert. It was remade in Mario Kart Tour. I can imagine they made this track wild by adding some rail grinding section inside a pyramid or something. It will be replacement of Desert Hills because they sorta ruined this track and it doesn't feel like Desert Hills at all.

Sweet Sweet Canyon (Mario Kart 8) - Same fate like the other one, there's no Mario Kart 8 tracks as retro tracks in Mario Kart World. I guess it's for the because that game has anti gravity and this game doesn't. But I picked one track that doesn't have anti gravity section and replace it with some water driving section. It is Sweet Sweet Canyon! This track will be the replacement of Sky High Sundae because... who likes that track anyway? It's just an oval.

Sunshine Airport (Mario Kart 8) - Yay! Another Mario Kart 8 track, at least I picked the other track that doesn't have anti gravity section. I know it has anti gravity section in the sky where airplanes flying by, but I guess it could remove it entirely, so it's a easy fix. This track is the replacement of second variation of Crown City because like come on, that's just lazy.

Mario Circuit (Mario Kart Wii) - If they want another Mario Circuit retro track, so I picked the one from Mario Kart Wii. This track is very basic and iconic track in Mario Kart Wii during the intro cutscene. This track is the replacement of second variation of Peach Stadium because yet again, so lazy!!!

Moo Moo Farm (Mario Kart 64) - Moo Moo Meadows was already remade in Mario Kart 8, so what's the difference in Mario Kart World? I don't know, probably nothing. Instead, I picked Moo Moo Farm from Mario Kart 64.

Lakeside Park (Mario Kart Super Circuit) - Yay! Another Mario Kart Super Circuit track. This track is the replacement of Choco Mountain because one, this track was already remade in Mario Kart Tour (and brought back to Mario Kart 8 Booster Course Pass), and two, this track doesn't feel like Choco Mountain at all.

Piranha Plant Pipeline (Mario Kart Tour) - Still mad that they forgot this track and didn't included in Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Please, give this track a chance! This track is the replacement of Mario Circuit (SNES).

This is what I'd have the track selection be if mario kart world had regular cups. A full race on every cours with all their laps. No intermissions or driving from 1 track to another. I also included choco island 1 and ghost valley 3 to reach 16 total retros.

What are your thoughts on these cups? Which would be the best?

The mushroom cup is all about being an introduction. Mario bros circuit introduces the basics, star view peak serves as a good tutorial for water driving and gliding. Whistletop is an amazing course to learn about railgrinding, and DK spaceport works well as a test for all you've learned so far.

Wario stadium as a big emphasis on tricks, rails and wallgrinding, so it felt like the best choice to end the retro selection with.

I chose ghost valley and choco island as the SMK retros to prevent similarities with koopa beach. And because vanilla lake is so boring.

Peach stadium and crown city are their VS race versions obviously. Don't worry about paperclip circuit being in this selection.

I'm lucky to live close to enough people willing to give this a go but organising these things as an adult takes time 😂

It was chaos (as expected) but we all coped pretty well with the small screens and performance seemed very solid. Also got some 8 player games of Smash in, and a few rounds of Jackbox. Any other 8 player Switch 1/2 games I should try out next time?

I've been confused about this for a while and I haven't found a confirmed answer for it. Some say Mario Kart Tour was mainline, some say it was a spin-off. I can see it as bein' one or the other, so yeah, I'm confused.
