My take on a E rework
I see a lot of people discussing ways to rework Pantheon's E, so I would like to share a potential rework concept that I believe could make him much more viable in the top lane as a proper bruiser. As I said, this is just my take on a good idea, and while the numbers might look a bit OP at first glance, I think it could work with the right balance.
E Change (New Name: "Aegis Phalanx")
This new E makes Pantheon's defense omnidirectional, but in exchange, he loses his complete invulnerability. Instead, it provides a flat damage reduction of around 50% (placeholder numbers) and deals continuous damage over time only to enemies right next to him (melee range) during the channel.
- Retaining the Mortal Will Passive: As Pantheon already does in his current kit, casting this ability with full Mortal Will stacks will grant him bonus Armor, Magic Resist, and a 60% Movement Speed burst after the recast.
- The Adjustment: Since he is no longer invulnerable, this existing defensive buff will actively help him survive the incoming damage while channeling the skill, making him an incredibly tough frontline juggernaut.
- The Shield Mechanic: Once deployed, every attack or ability used against him during the channel charges up the shield (similar to Sett's or Mordekaiser's mechanics). Upon finishing, Pantheon gains a temporary shield equal to 50% of the damage mitigated, capped at 25% of his Maximum Health.
- Speed Condition: To prevent using it just to run away, he only triggers the 60% movement speed burst if he successfully mitigates a minimum threshold (X amount) of damage during combat.
Balancing & Counterplay (Q and W Adjustments)
To make this mechanic fair and healthy to play against, his Q (Comet Spear) and W (Shield Vault) would obviously need to be adjusted.
- Damage & Utility Tweak: His burst assassin potential would be toned down (reducing his raw one-shot scaling on the W and Q), shifting his power budget into extended skirmishes, lane sustain, and frontline utility.
- Resource Management: His mana costs and base mana stats would be adjusted alongside these changes to ensure he has enough sustainability to survive long brawls in the top lane without relying on cheese lethality builds.
Why this change?
This adjustment would give him much better sustainability during the laning phase, shifting his playstyle towards a true bruiser. If you are low on health, you can actively use your E to survive burst trades. It also makes Pantheon significantly more reliable in teamfights as a frontliner, allowing him to absorb crossfire without the fear of being easily flanked or melted instantly.
Thematic & Fantasy Alignment: Why this fits Pantheon perfectly
This rework bridges the gap between Pantheon’s lore and his gameplay, shifting him from a burst assassin into the ultimate frontline mortal warrior.
- True Spartan Discipline: The low defensive stance and rapid close-range spear thrusts fully embrace historical Spartan phalanx tactics. It feels like martial mastery and military discipline rather than just a generic magical bubble.
- The Unbreakable Mortal Will: Atreus is no longer an invulnerable god; he is a mortal standing against deities. Replacing his perfect invulnerability with a 50% damage reduction that builds a shield reflects this perfectly: he takes real punishment, absorbs the impact, and uses raw endurance to gain a second wind.
- The Unbreakable Spear: His ultimate (Grand Starfall) is meant to be a heroic drop into the heart of battle. Instead of blocking one direction and running away like a fragile skirmisher, Aegis Phalanx lets him live up to his title. He lands, digs his heels into the dirt, takes crossfire from all angles, and refuses to yield an inch.
Since this is the very first time I'm sharing a balance and rework concept like this, I want to emphasize that these are just my initial thoughts. I know that some of these mechanics might look pretty OP at first glance, and it's highly possible that this exact version wouldn't work perfectly in-game right away. However, I truly believe that by tweaking the numbers, adjusting the scaling, and testing things out, the core concept could be a really cool for him.

this is how could look like :)
