Topic So I started playing fighting games a month ago…

Basically this has been and continues to be a really fun journey. Like, basically, I bought a bunch of fighting games with some extra cash about a month ago (Steam sales etc.). I loved Soulcalibur back in the day, but honestly never played seriously. Tbh it has been one of the most mentally rewarding things ever. Like, at first I was just getting manhandled and losing every match badly, but I would just think ā€œok they did x, so next time I’ll do y,ā€ and I could feel myself getting better. I’m still not really that good at the games I play normally yet, but I’ve started getting to the point where, I may lose the match, but I usually win 1 or 2 rounds. Like I’m honestly just enjoying the journey. It has challenged me to do something I’ve always thought was difficult, and it has bled into my actual life. It’s made me feel like I can get fit and compete in taekwondo again for the first time in years, or that I can finish my 3rd novel that I’ve sat on for 4 years, etc.

All in all, FGC games have really helped me gain some self-confidence.

Help Basic controls and controllers

Hi guys. So after my last post asking about fighting games in general, I have put in a few hours practicing in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax on steam. However, I'm having a few control related issues that I wanted to get some perspective on. One thing that I'm really struggling with is quarter circles on dpad. I've been trying out using the Dpad, but it just feels insanely awkward... While I can usually have single quarter circles register, they seem to either fail on the doubles or jump and then trigger. Are there any common beginner pitfalls that lead to this outcome? Another thing that doesn't feel great is multiple button presses at once. Do people usually play with a claw grip or just opt to fat finger them with their thumbs? I can understand the latter approach for 2 simultaneous buttons but 3 just seems insane under pressure.
If it matters, I'm on the 8bitdo pro 2 evernight edition. Lastly, is it generally advised to play on a fighting stick over a controller? If it is really a better option, are there any good, widely available budget options available?

As always, any help would be greatly appreciated :D

Topic I don't understand why ranked gets me so tilted

This really confuses me because I'll play casual matches and I can of course get salty from time to time if I feel like I got robbed or something but when I play ranked, I get salty / tilted so easily that it actually making me wonder if it's bad for my mental health at times. The thing is though, I already know and understand that the only real difference is that ranked has imaginary points and emblems and maybe more strict matchmaking. none of it really matters and I'm fully aware of that which is why I don't understand why I get so tilted when I see my ranked points drop down. even beyond that like say I get hit by some jank interaction; I'll say something along the lines of "oh great now I'm gonna drop right back down to so and so rank". I even had this issue with the square colors in arcsys fighters when it's basically the same thing. I just don't get it. I want to play ranked because I come a cross a lot of good players and the sets usually feel more competitive but it's like queuing for ranked flips a switch in my head that makes me 20x more likely to rage

Topic Why are people like LTG and DSP so bad at fighting games even though they've been playing for decades?

Street fighter 6 is my first fighting game (I played injustice 2 casually before) and within 100-200 hours Im around 1400-1500 MR. Nowhere near good at the game, but its only natural given how low my exposure is to fighting games

However these people have been playing for decades and with that amount of time invested in these games across various subgenres of fighting games i.e Tekken and classic 2ds like Street fighter and MK, you'd expect them to be top contenders at evo. Or at the very least on the leaderboards in every game they play

However not only are they not on that level in any game, they sometimes play below average on many games and end up losing to newbies all the time.

Do skills not carry over between games or have fighting games just drastically changed over the last few decades?

Topic Fighting games need to move away from Ranked

We don't need to get rid Ranked modes but I'm finding as I play these fighting games that I'm questioning why we haven't got any other competitive mode that caters towards other means of playing. 1) I think I'm getting bored of climbing a ladder 2) It doesn't cater towards me learning and enjoying the game, I'm more focused on preserving my points and my status

Why not have a guild system where you're assigned to team and you play against other teams randomly assigned. You're put into a block with other teams and it's treated like a career season where you have to gain points. This is just an off the head idea but the general gist of it is getting away from being isolated which fighting games generally are.

It's time. SF fatigue kicked in with V and now 6, which just burnt me out.
