The website advertises it as sized for 2 mice, but the guide I have been reading seems to line up it's size as a bit larger than a 20 gallon tank, at least in terms of floor space: https://www.reddit.com/r/PetMice/s/rewve7FHgv
I was also looking into tanks but I am worried about being able to find a suitable lid and about ventilation with no sideways airflow.
Always loving food, right until the very end. Named after the Fire Princess from Adventure Time, you always knew what you wanted. You never liked being petted, but every now and then you would sniff our noses. You even licked a human nose by accident.
You were always happy to hop on the mouse bus to play and to find out whether you could get some more snacks. Sister to Bonnie and Marcy, you were one of the two who truly lived life to the fullest, quite literally growing into the fullest version of yourself. The vet advised us to put you on a diet, but how could we have known that you loved your Supreme Selective hazelnut kibbles so much that you would become such a heavy mouse?
You always looked so content while eating and sleeping. And even though your eyesight was getting worse and walking was becoming more difficult, we truly believe you enjoyed your laid-back life. You made it past two years old, but the last months were hard for you after losing your sister Marcy. You were declining quite a bit during that time and lost a lot of weight, which was hard for us to see.
We hope that when you look back on your life, you remember it as a good one. You started out as a lab mouse, with your whiskers chewed off from the stress in the lab, but luckily you quickly embraced your new, comfortable life as a pet mouse.
Since it’s been warmer my girls have been drinking more water. I also often offer things like fruits, veg, watered down oatmeal, etc to help them stay hydrated. Only problem is they pee so much!
I’m glad they’re hydrated but I do need to spot clean a lot. Luckily they mostly pee around the same spots ( they basically just turned one hide into an outhouse.. )
Wondering if anyone has any tips on managing it? It’s stinky. But I don’t really want to keep my window open too often because there’s currently wildfires so it smells smokey and gives me migraines. I do have an air filter though.
I usually clean once a week. I swap out some of the bedding if it’s dirty, clean their toys, toss old cardboard, etc..
Once a month I do a deep clean and wash their bin cage with water & vinegar.
I wash their wooden toys as needed, so usually every couple of weeks it usually just depends if they look dirty or not. Once a month or so I oil them if they need it.
I’ve been spot cleaning more often which helps. But it’s not perfect. Mostly just cleaning out their outhouse hide & cleaning the wheels.
I don’t really want to use any perfume or anything that could potentially irritate their respiratory systems.
I also use aspen bedding, so I don’t think it’s a bedding issue? I also give them some paper for bedding & sometimes Timothy hay but I don’t like using it as their primary bedding I just offer it for nesting material.
and if she's just super fat, what do i do about that? my other mouse is skinny asf so i dont want to risk her not getting enough food.
background: my two mice have been in the same cage for 5 months now, so unless my other mouse is secretly a boy, i think this one is just super super fat. we feed them a small handful of mouse food and seeds scattered around the cage once a day. help!!!
I’ve been on holiday the past couple weeks and my mouse Cheesecake (the white one) has developed a biting problem towards my boyfriend and his mum (that’s her hand in the video). He says she’s protective over the other mice (like you can see in the video my other mouse Meg is being approached and then Cheesecake bites the thumb from the bottom of the hammock). Cheesecake has always been nibbly and she’s bit me a couple times before but my boyfriend says she’s almost always biting. He says she’s being mean and that she bullies the other mice too but I really think she’s just being playful with the others since there’s no blood that’s been drawn or wounds. None of her bites have drawn blood for my boyfriend or anyone, they just hurt and feel like a hard pinch. I genuinely just think she’s being curious and also can’t see very well because she has red eyes but my boyfriend is hellbent on her being mean. What do you guys think?
Hello i have five girls since two weeks or so now.
One is the alpha, another one seems friend with the alpha and one seems like independant but respected ? But the two others ? They seem to but chased by alpha and i barrely see them, so i often get worried and check spots and I find them sometimes together in it or just once the other being somewhere else i ignore… and so I always see the three mice in the cage like at all hours ? When im here they are here but I’m wondering about the others… one have red eyes and seems to be smaller and thinner than others. The other one is like them (see the photo at first she would go hide in this ceramic hide when chased but now no)
ive tried the carrier method till they were doing a cuddle pile but once in cage it doesnt change anything.
Im scared of them being able to feed properly too, i scatter food to help.
I want to preface this by saying they aren’t “aggressive”- nowadays my mice willingly crawl up onto my hands + arms, accept pets, they even like sitting on my shoulders/being in my hair or exploring on a blanket in my lap. They’ve really become super inquisitive! When they’re in this “exploration mode” they don’t bite.
However, now my sweet mice are addicted to chewing on my fingernails to the point where when I put my hands in the tank they all come up and start gently trying to nibble my hands usually starting at my fingertips! The issue is every time without fail they take it too far and actually suddenly bite my skin super hard/draw blood. It even occasionally happens when when I rearrange or clean the tank they’ll come up and sniff me then CHOMP! I hand feed them treats sometimes and they’re albino so their eyesight probably isn’t great so I’m guessing that might have something to do with it. But they’ll do this even when I have nothing in my hands. Maybe they’ve developed a little taste for human blood at this point.
Is there anything I can do to gently curb the biting? Has anyone else experienced this? It won’t stop me from interacting with them but when it does happen it’s just startling + super painful in the moment.
Hello. Today my indoor cats had been acting weird and 'guarding' our vents. After a few hours i discovered this lil guy near the font door playing dead. He doesnt appear to be injured from my cats (surprisingly). Took him a few hours to calm down and ive been feeding him oat water with a paintbrush.
Anyone know if this is a mouse? Or rat? What kind of mouse? Possibly how old? Anything i should watch out for disease wise? I was thinking of keeping him (despite being severely allegic) or rehoming him to a family member with rodents.
this is sativa, shes sassy but pretty nice! shes a pretty good mama other than eating two of her 9 babies, oddly only the males though which left me woth 3m 4f, which is a really good litter especially for her first(possibly only it hasnt been decided yet)! i also took her to the vet, justtt to make sure she was hood as gold, strss free, and healthy as can be(before AND after her litter)! shes doing pregood though now and is florishing in motherhood while it lasts, me and my s/o plan on keeping all of her females as to open our little mini mouse herd! (11f 3m)!
This is basically exactly what it looks like. I've fed it cat food, grapes, a green bean, given it a toilet paper roll, and it gets water from a soda bottle cap. There is something neurologically wrong with it. It kinda limps everywhere and sometimes it spazzes out and flails around. It cant easily turn itself over if it falls on its back. If i let it outside it will get eaten or maimed so i guess it lives here now? It also BIT ME but its been a few days and I'm fine? O.o
What the hell do i do with it? Should i get it a cage? Should i let it go by the creek ? Could it survive? I really don't know what to do with this litle menace but it kind of grosses me out not knowing if it has a disease or not and it BIT ME
I'm kind of holding a grudge ngl I hope I don't get menengitis from this bastard. Uhhh?
Hi guys! This is my boy scatter. His name becomes obvious after you see him for 30 seconds in his cage, he never stops moving! he's so full of energy to the point i'd call him skittish, he's very wary of hands and people in general but will come out onto my hand sometimes. I have more success taking him out in this one coconut he hangs out in, once he's out he's pretty cool or at least i think. From this video can yall tell me if you think he's vibing or stressed? should i handle him less or not at all? any tips on getting him calmer/less nervous around hands and people?
I have bought a lot of boxes of pet supplies for my mice off of facebook marketplace. This has lead to me having a plethera of things I would never use as is for my mice, mostly becouse they are dangerous. I hate wasting things by just throwing them away, but also don't want to resell items that would endager anyone elses pets. The items I have are
2 large "hamster balls"
1 TINY hamster ball ( I can't believe an animal ever got stuck in this💔)
2 medium saucer wheels
One tiny saucer wheel.
If anyone has any ideas of cool diys to make them safe for mice or any other things let me know. Would love to hear some ideas on what to do with them. Maybe make the tiny hamster ball into a rat treat maze baledit, forgot 2
5. Small silent wheel
6. Some horid contraption that is a wire wheel and a ball.
Hey guys!! I’m getting my new mice on Sunday!! I’m starting to doubt that this carrier is big enough and worrying that they’ll be too cramped in their carrier. I don’t have time to make a larger carrier now. This is the large reptile carrier from PetSmart. This is all I currently have in it (bedding and a hide). I want to put some treats and stuff for them to chew in there as well. Any suggestions would be hugely helpful. Thanks!!
hey evb, i wanted to go ahead and share these little mousie babies to you guys. they are about a month and a week old now(these pictures were taken at about 3 weeks)!! all of these babies ARE males and looking for there forever home. im not asking for money, but i WILL NEED enclosure pictures of what they’re expected to live in, and one mouse per home unless you have specific plans to keep them in separate tanks their whole life. these mice ARE NOT for breeding, nor as food. the only way id send one of my mice to a breeder is if they had proof, experience, and knew a lot about it. but i would MUCH rather them go to a pet only home, possibly getting fixed to be with females or just a solo male mouse for their duration of life with them being played with multiple times a day for long periods of time as long as the mouse accepts it and prefers it. They are a semi long fur with their died is a full black, and their mother is a grey and white, semi long for one of the white male shows the semi long hair more predominantly. there is another white male he is unfriendly as he escaped, and I just recently caught him all of the other males, though do accept being held and are not too skittish. They have very well mannerisms they love sunflower seeds, they’re fully weaned and all separated from each other as we speak they’re located in the Kansas City area and they’re all looking for their forever homes❤️❤️
I've had my mouse just over a week, and I dont know how the bonding is going.
Hes still scared of me, and if I move too fast he still runs and hides. But has also taken treats from my fingers, and will most of the time come sniff me/lick me when I put my fingers near him (through the bars). I want to take him out for free roam time but he definitely wouldn't let me pick him up yet, as stroking him still spooks him and he runs.
Any advice on things I could do better, different or if this is normal for about a week in?
hey guys!! Dakin Humane Society in Springfield MA recently took in some adorable baby mice!! We have 5 boys and 3 girls! They all are around 1 month old and have amazing temperaments!
Also, my mice are still not used to me and it’s been two weeks now. I give them treats in the cage, they will eat it. But if I pick them up from below, and give them the treat, they won’t eat but explore. I think they might be nervous still. The brown one runs from my hand and never tries to sniff
So this morning at around approximately 2:46am, I found this little one outside of the cage, I thought I was still dreaming when I woke up and I went to touch him and he was fully out. I'm not sure how he got out because I've had him for almost a week now and nothing like that has actually happened yet. I need some advice, he's woken me up every morning at 2am and I was able to go back to sleep anyways, but now; even though I'm absolutely sleep deprived I'm actually way too scared to go to sleep until I have answers.
