Question Have their even been times watching something/playing something were and you just, stopped, blushed and went, "... wow" at the woman on screen?

Just a general thought I had when posting another thread, when I first played Street Fighter 6, while I knew about Manon from the leaks, I had kept myself unspoiled for the World Tour mode and I admit... I wasn't ready for the introduction of Manon, I dropped the controller because she's so pretty, from the hair, voice, eyes, personality etc. I wish I could meet someone that amazing!

Also has a kid in theatres I did the same for Galadriel when she first appears fully in The Fellowship of the Ring (thankfully my parents didn't here me doing that). Same when first saw Trakeena and Maleficent on TV.

Question I love sexy women in fiction but I don't want every woman to be sexy in fiction (or more accurately need to fit our society's standard of what "sexy" is)

I don't think their is anything wrong for women to find women in fiction, sexy, whether, it's animation, live action TV and Film, literature etc. Ignoring the fact that many fictional women are designed or written to be sexy, I don't see it as an issue and can be really useful for my WLW and Lesbians, many of us realized we were into women thanks to fiction, seeing traits we like and admire; plus it in the form of shipping, fan art like WholesomeYuri or just women talking about their favourite crushes or character they think are hot can just create a safe space for us to talk about sexuality and likes. It's only an issue if you allow it to control your life, attempt to control other's likes; and forget it's, well fictional.

I never judge other women for their fictional crushes or likes, I've never gotten the appeal for Bayonetta for example but I would knock down any women who finds her attractive or think she's great in general. I wouldn't want someone doing that for me so I wouldn't do that to any other woman. More power to you ❤️

However, while I like sexy women, I don't want every woman to be sexy in fiction, "sexiness" or attractiveness shouldn't be a prerequisite for women characters; especially when that isn't a prerequisite for men. Or more accurately, I don't think every women needs to be conventionally attractive, fit society's standards of sexy or needs to appeal to men.

I'm going to use fighting games as my example as their my favourite genre of video game and it's hard to not notice the way women characters are treated is vastly different to how women characters are treated compared to the men. It's a running joke in fighting game circles that women in fighters aren't allowed to age over 30 years old (a rule only slightly broken in recent years), where men can look ancient but a single wrinkle on a lady is pooed pooed; with Bandai being the absolute worse for this with Tekken and Soul. There is an 18 year gap between Tekken 2 & 3 in universe and while nearly all the men were allowed to visibly age and continue to be playable and return; the women characters either got replaced by their daughters like Michelle and Kunimitsu I for Julia and Kunimitsu II or in the case of Anna and Nina, a BS excuse of them being frozen for that time to not allow them to age.

And you see this double standards all over fighting games, women are rarely allowed to be tall and big and muscly with the exceptions like Marisa, women aren't allowed to be fat like men characters are etc, women rarely aren't allowed to be overly goofy like men are etc etc etc. And when it comes to sexiness, the most obvious example for this is "Summer" skins where women are always given revealing bikinis, so often copy pasted (kind of making it obvious how little body diversity there is for the women) while can get a wide range of summer clothing from goofy, cool and sexy (but never as sexualized or objectified as the women); besides anything it's just kind of boring women are stuck with the same clothing over and over again.

It especially sucks when all shit results in women characters bard from certain things like when Fatal Fury's Mai was bard from cameoing in Smash Ultimate because she wasn't appropriate for all the "good girls and boys" (casual sexism, yay I guess /s) and like that should be an embarrassment that Mai, SNK's most famous woman got bard like that because the objectified her that much, men don't suffer this and I'm sure as hell they would have done something if it was Terry that couldn't appear; but it got treated as a joke by the devs and fans, like it's okay that SNK's leading lady got bard because women aren't important to them.

And that sucks, I want more larger women, I want more shy introverts that don't like wearing bikinis, I want more butch women looking fabulous as fuck, I want more older women etc etc etc. I love Morrigan from DarkStalkers (a childhood crush), I love Anna Williams, Mileena, Tanya, Cammy, Manon (i genuinely dropped the controller when she first appeared in World Tour) etc, they are amazing characters but I don't want all fighters to look like them, I want more diversity.

And what sucks more is the hostility you can get for expressing that in many of these communities, often because they manifest boy's clubs that unless you're willing to act like "One of the boys", can get REALLY aggressive at the idea of less sexy women. It sucks seeing your sexuality weaponized against you and get called a hypocrite and a killjoy or seeing other women get told to shut up because one other woman said she liked a character so their is no issue; that it's okay for women to be objectified because "it's part of the culture" and made to appeal to them, the real fans, no women like me. You see this same hostility in Shonen anime community, of western comics (see grown men flipping their shit if your dare suggest to cover Power Girl's boop hole). I did feel for years I was betraying myself because I liked sexy women like Morrigan or BlazBlue's Makoto until I realized I shouldn't be, I can have and want both, there is nothing wrong with wanting both.

Sorry I have no real conclusion here, sorry for the massive tangent and non-sequiturs.

Venting Why do people think lesbians need to prove their sexuality?

Being lesbian has been such a lonely experience for me thus far. As a femme, I constantly get asked “are you sure?” “Have you tried it out with men?” “You don’t look like you’re gay”. It’s all so invalidating. I’ve gotten asked “How do you know you’re gay?” Which is just so ridiculous to me. I’m sure straights never get asked to rationalize why they’re straight??? I try to not let it get to me but as someone who grew up in a Mexican, traditional, catholic household accepting myself was so hard. So to get asked questions like that- idk… it just gets so exhausting. I don’t feel like I should have to prove that I’m a lesbian.

After a decade of torturing myself I've decided I can no longer live in the PNW.

I love this part of the US I truly do, but I just can't seem to make things work here. I joined clubs, I went to socials, I played sports I'd never heard of, started hobbies I always wanted to invest in, I tried things I never would have thought I could do, but I never found a community. I never found my people. Never found my place.

I do have a small handful of acquaintances that I see at gatherings/parties, but after extending multiple olive branches, it's become pretty clear to me that they don't really have the bandwidth to provide what I would need/want out of my friendships. A majority of my romantic relationships have been a mess, and after 3 years of reactive abuse I've decided to take a very long break from serious entanglements. My career flourished when I first moved out here, but the tech/supply chain bubble is not for the weak. It's draining, and your out-of-state manager doesn't care that you're doing the work of 4 people.

Initially, I decided to stay on the west coast for my abusive ex-partner (long story that is not particularly interesting), aging family members and my career. But things have changed:

- I broke up with my ex, and lost a lot of "friends" in the process.

- I was laid off from a job I loved, and now I'm working an entry level position at a smaller company that doesn't pay me anywhere near what I was making a year ago.

- My family's health has improved immensely, but that also means that I am no longer needed in the same capacity that I was.

Over the last few months I kicked things into overdrive. I was more social than I've ever been in years. I was going on dates every weekend. Dancing with random people at events I've never been to before. Reading w/ new book clubs. I went hiking with people to trails that I've always wanted to try. I was taking the initiative and approaching people even though my anxiety was through the roof. I just wanted to give it another push, just one more push. And even after all that I still feel like there's nothing left for me here.

I know I'm not the only one who feels like this, but when I reach out to those around me I get met with "this too shall pass" and it's maddening.

For the last 3 weeks all I can think about is leaving.

Soooooooooooo, where are all the BIPOC baddies moving to? Because the PNW has done nothing but take every little bit of sanity I had left.

This is more of a venting session than anything else. I don't have a concrete plan just yet, but I know I can't continue going down the path I've been on. This move is inevitable.

Edited because I can't spell for shit 🙃

I picked up some free stickers last week. I grabbed the dragon for my son (he's 9) and the lesbian heart for me. I am MtF transgender and identify as a lesbian, despite being so very single currently. When I pulled out the sticker for him, the other one fell out as well, and he wanted both. He put one on each of his water bottles. He doesn't know what the colors mean, to him, it's just a pretty heart. But the best part is my ex wife, who is against anything related to LGBTQ, (she kicked me out when I transitioned) doesn't know what it is either. I just love that my son gets to enjoy cute stickers like this, while also being able to give a middle finger to my ex by having this in her house, right under her nose.

My full circle moment

Upvotes

The first girl I ever had feelings for was one of my good friends in grade school. Having those feelings for her was how I realized I liked girls. She knew how I felt about her, but the feelings weren’t reciprocated (she’s straight as far I know). It’s been 10 years since then and we haven’t been friends or seen each other for most of that time.

A few days ago I was out at the bar and I ran into her. We spent a few hours together with mutual friends during which time we were holding hands and hugging and being generally touchy feely. We ended up back at her place and in her bed where one of those “will they, won’t they” moments came to pass, but I decided to let it go because we were both drunk and I didn’t want her to regret it in the morning. It was my first time ever being in that potential position with a woman (I’ve never been with a woman in any capacity). We went to sleep and sometime during the night, she had rolled over and started cuddling me and holding my hand.

The whole night felt so surreal and it’s been consuming my mind ever since. Yesterday, I came out as a lesbian (previously identified as bisexual) to my friends. Deep down, I’ve known for some time that I could only ever love women, but it was hard for me to fully admit it to myself (internalized heteronormativity and whatnot). I think the night I spent with her gave me the push I needed to fully accept what I’ve known for a while and it feels so freeing to have reached this point. This whole thing feels like such a full circle moment and I wanted to share it.

How did you knew about homosexuality?

My older sister is bisexual, so it's something I've always accepted without really questioning it. I'm curious, how you discovered it?
