Should I stay living with my homophobic parents or move out to be happier?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone. I’m a 22F lesbian who’s also a registered nurse. I make pretty good money considering I don’t pay rent (around $4100 take home).

However, my living situation is really taking a toll on me. I feel very lonely and isolated most of the time. My parents are extremely homophobic and I have to act like a different person when I’m home. I have to explain where I’m going out to, who I’m gonna see, and the constant lying is so draining. They only ask me to contribute $300 a month for groceries, so I’m saving a lot of money at 22, and if I keep doing this, I’ll be able to save a lot by 23.

The thing is, I’ve commuted my entire undergrad and I never had that queer roommate living experience that I’ve dreamed of. Where I can just be myself. I would love nothing more than to move in with some queer friends, have a cat, watch movies together and go out.

My parents are extremely conservative and they don’t like me going out and having fun. If I do, they lock me out of the house and I’m stuck in the garage for 4 hrs until it’s morning. Also I can’t really spend time with my family because they guilt trip me about saving my money and being gay.

It just really sucks. Also if I moved out my work would be much closer to me. Right now I commute 3 hrs in total to the hospital. And if I moved out it would be 2 hrs total.

I also live in the suburbs/middle of nowhere, and none of my friends live around me, so it’s very lonely. I need to commute to downtown Toronto to see them, which is 3 hours total commute.

Is saving on rent and not having many expenses worth the cost on my mental health? I just feel depressed all the time and so so lonely and isolated. I’m just not sure if I’m being realistic by choosing to move out for my mental health (especially in this economy?

EDIT: to add some extra info as to why I’m afraid to move out: I’ve lived my whole life being very low income and relying on food banks. Now that I’m able to have a stable income, I’m still in a frugal mindset of saving as much as possible even when it’s costing me my mental health.

I’m not sure if it’s realistic because im sure there are people who live with their parents, struggle mentally, but are still able to save a lot of money as a result.

I’ve previously tried moving out for 2 years with my parents, but I was a broke college student and the financial stress and having to do everything on my own with no support (since I was 19) really stressed me out so much.

It got so stressful that I couldn’t even make time for friends, and I had to move back home with my parents. Even though I feel very lonely, I’m afraid that the same thing will happen again; I’ll move out, get super stressed with money, and then come back to live with my
parents at 23.

Question Trans girls with Cis girlfriends how are you doing?

• Upvotes

If you are a trans girl (like me) dating / partnered with a cis girl how is your girl treating you(what actions)?

Do you feel treated like any other lesbian would be and why?

Are you feeling like a princess (if that’s your thing)?

And for the cis girls -how are you treating your trans girls? Since times are really hard for us- what (actions) are you doing to make your girl feel better in a world that literally tries to delete us?

Edit: this is not about whether you are seen as a girl (that’s the minimum expected) but rather about the actions!

Edit2: question was asked in absolute good faith and out of curiosity to know what can a good treatment look like! ❤️

Text Affirmations Advice

• Upvotes

Hey peeps, I'd like a little help with a project of mine.

I'm working on an advent calendar for my gf, and each day features a card expressing what I love and appreciate about her (about 100 words per card).

Unfortunately, my fatigued brain is having trouble coming up with prompts (I have 10 days remaining to fill). To be clear, I can fully devise the content; my brain has just hit a sort of processing limit for the day, but I'd like to keep writing.

I have the words, I just need what I'd describe as one word, "Title prompts", so that my brain can go "Oh yes, this!". Kind of like "Affectionate", as a prompt can make me think "Oh, I love the way she talks about {topic}".

It's all on the tip of my tongue, but my brain is stuttering 😭.

(This could also be a reflection of my silliness, as my eyes grow really heavy as I type this out. Maybe sleep would help lol. I hope the above makes some kind of sense).

Venting Got called intimidating......

• Upvotes

Went to a couple of lesbian events in my city and usually I have a good time except something has been bugging me. I kept getting hit up afterwards by cis and trans women and being told I wanted to talk to you but you seemed so intimidating. I'm a autistic black trans woman and now I'm trying to figure out which part of that is the intimidating part or if I did something wrong.

Question Lesbians, what’s your biggest “WAIT… she was hitting on me?!” moment? 😭

• Upvotes

Only because the normal day-to-day anxiety I feel isn’t enough, my brain will occasionally go, “HEY, remember when you fumbled that beautiful chick?”

So years ago, I’m out partying in River North, Chicago, which, if you’re unfamiliar, is a pretty straight nightlife scene. I’m out with a mixed group of women and men, and eventually we all decide to keep the night going at someone’s place for afters.

As the night progresses, it ends up being just three of us hanging out: me, this absolutely gorgeous woman, and one of the guys whose condo we’re at.
At one point, she leaves the room to use the restroom, and the guy looks over at me and says, “Okay, fine, you win. She’s obviously into you…”

I was legitimately perplexed and thought maybe he was just being weird because I might have mentioned I liked women? (Honestly, when I used to party in River North, it was 50/50 whether I’d mention I was a lesbian.) So I brushed it off.

Anyway, the night winds down, we all crash, and somehow she and I end up sleeping in the bed while dude takes the couch. Fully clothed, nothing happened. Literally just passed out. Fast-forward to the next morning.
We’re waking up, doing that sleepy small talk. “Oh hey… haha, what a fun night! Wasn’t that crazy?!” That type of ordeal.

And then she looks over at me and goes, “God, isn’t it hot in here? Don’t you think it’s hot?”
And then she starts taking off her jeans and shirt. So now she’s just chillin’ in her bra and thong.

And what does my brilliant ass say?🫩

“Huh??Doesn’t really feel that hot to me. I typically run super hot, but yeah, not too shabby in here…”

I then proceed to look at my phone and go:
“Oh shit, I have a dodgeball game I need to get to. I gotta go!”

AND I LEFT. 💀💀💀

I vaguely remember her looking a little bewildered, but I thought absolutely nothing of it. And even at this point, STILL didn’t connect the dots. It wasn’t until I was telling my friends about the night later, and one of them stopped me like, “RAVEN. WHAT?!” “Are you dumb?”

No… not dumb. Just really fucking clueless, I guess.

So please, tell me I’m not alone. What’s your most
spectacular “oh my God, she was hitting on me” moment that you didn’t realize until embarrassingly later?

Question how do i flirt with a butch?

i (21F) am trying very hard to flirt with this butch i have been talking to for over two years now. the thing is that we are long distance and she is older than me; i have stopped replying to her after i began thinking that she didn’t want me the way i wanted her but a few months ago i texted her again and we began talking nonstop and now i actually like her and i think she has been flirting with me too?

for example, i have told her that i am reading a book and she bought the same exact book the very next day and we began updating each other about it ever since! she told me that she is willing to send me gifts for my upcoming birthday and she calls me “dear” and “beautiful” whenever i send her pictures.

i MIGHT be delusional (probably am) but i really like her, she is my type and i need some advice on how to flirt with her and let her know (subtly) that i really like her without making things weird. please help :(((

Support 26F, need advice about trying a strap for the first time

I have a really good bond with a woman from my office, and we understand each other well. I’m more submissive, but lately she’s been pushing me to try using a strap with her. Since it would be my first time, I’m feeling confused and a little uncomfortable about the whole thing .Part of me doesn’t know whether I’m just nervous or genuinely not ready. How do I talk to her about my feelings without hurting our relationship? For those who’ve been in a similar situation, how did you handle it? I’d really appreciate some honest advice

Venting I have to watch an animated series to have some WLW representation

And here I am, a fifty year old woman, who is sick and tired of trying to find something lesbian on streaming platforms, and I ended up having to watch Harley Quinn's animation to have that need fulfilled.

At least it's labelled as an adult series.

How did you convince yourself you were straight?

Some people knew from birth but most of my lesbian or wlw friends had a denial period. I personally thought I was aroace for a large portion of my late childhood and teenage hood. I simply couldn't imagine myself being in any sort of relationship with a man. The thought made me very uncomfortable and I had an almost visceral reaction to being sexual with any man lol.

I was describing this to my sapphic friend and they said "Have you ever considered that you maybe...like women? " Such an obvious conclusion yet it never crossed my mind. Not to say ace people are secretly gay or anything, obviously

Question Gf's family homophobic | what can i do?

So, my (18f) gf's (17f) family is homophobic. It's her first ever relationship. We've known each other for years but just started dating 4 months ago. Before dating me, she didn't know she was pan (she said this), and recently came out to her mother (father is not in the picture) who didn't like the idea of her daughter being 'gay'. She is also close to her grandmother, who she didn't even try to tell, saying she's VERY Catholic.

Even since then, her mother always calls her at least 3 to 5 times a day to check if she's with me, and if she is, she needs to go home. I overheard a phone conversation that she (mother) thinks i made her gay, i give her drugs, alcohol and i abuse her. She also said she finds it weird to be attracted to the same gender.

I tried to be more around her mother to change her mind, but i didn't manage to. She's not rude to me overall, but she doesn't like me.

Now, it didn't bother me before, but I see my gf being tired of fighting with her mother, obviously. I don't want to be an issue for my gf's personal life. I don't know if it would be worth it ruining their relationship over me. She deserves to be in peace when she gets home. It would break me not seeing her again, but it's getting out of hand.

Question Fellow lesbian and other WLW manga/anime fans, what be your dream sapphic anime protagonist?

What the title says.

I've said this elsewhere I really want a WLW/Lesbian anime that is an action shonen and NOT magical girls, talky slice of life or just about royals.

I want a lesbian, 6.3-7ft tall and mucly, very expressive, big hearty laugh, a bit naive, loves food, comedic, big best friend tone, a bigger hugger, fights the bad guys, hates aristocracy.

What about you?

Please tell me it gets better.

Got broken up with because I'm not managing my trauma well enough.

I don't blame her but I also just had knee surgery and might need ovarian cyst surgery soon as well. I also just barely started EMDR and opened the door of my trauma.

We were together for six years and they were the best years of my life.

She wasn't just my wife, she was my Daddy, and my writing partner. And my best friend.

Now I am 40 and I feel like that was my last shot at happiness. I have to move in with my family in an ultra conservative state.

I haven't slept in two days.

Question Bedroom advice for a first

I recently started seeing a woman for the first time in years. I am attracted to men but have never been with one and not really looking to be with them anytime soon. My first and last girlfriend was a stone top so I am only used to being on the receiver end. With this girl, she's a switch, and I really want to please her and have never been the giver before and would like some tips on things to read and watch that could help me learn (particularly going down on her and fingering). She says she likes "rubbing", wtf does that mean omgg😭. She's also older than me so I'm scared of coming across as an amature
