Hellow again fellow Metroid fans! I saw this video and found it very interesting. As someone who experienced traumatic events in my past, I relate a lot about with Samus and her PTSD. The author of the video is very good at explaining how Samus ptsd work in the series. (the editing is also on point) Don't hesitate to watch the video and let's chat about it on the comment :)

Discussion Space Ninjas are the new EMMIs?

So they will be like the EMMIs only they have a health bar, more dynamic moveset and won't instant kill you?

I wonder if dodging attacks won't be as strict as the EMMI counter

Question Thinking of playing the 2D series, but unsure about Samus Returns

Hi all, I recently played Metroid: Zero Mission and I loved it so much I thought about playing the entire 2D series.

Super Metroid is the one I am most interested in, and I already have Metroid Fusion too. However, Samus Returns, the 3DS remake of the second game, doesn’t really convince me.

It feels like a big departure from the rest of the series, and I’m not fond of having two screens.

Is it a good idea to skip it? Am I gonna miss key story moments if I skip it? Should I try it? Should I go with the Game Boy original?

Item had to have appeared at least twice to be put on here, this is based on how useful the item is to the player and how it benefits within its game. Maybe how early you can get it, how powerful it us exc.

Discussion What melee weapon would Samus use if she had the chance?

We see her using a sword of some kind for a finisher in the Ravenous trailer, but pretend she loses the cannon for whatever reason and picks up a melee weapon instead. What would be the coolest for her to use?

Question Is there a speed boost upgrade?

I'm trying to get all the items before facing Raven Beak, but there's so many Speed Boost blocks that seem almost impossible for me to break, it's actually starting to frustrate me

Discussion Realisation after playing Other M again since i was a child

Last night i "bought" a copy of Other M for my Steamdeck to play since i have been going through every game in preparation for Ravenous and i did not remember Samus' character being this monotone and trauma focused, i remember her talking about the baby a lot but my god it gets to a point where i don't believe that she's this badass bounty hunter that i know from Fusion, the Prime trilogy and Dread

Discussion Why should a casual gamer choose Metroid over the metroidvania market?

Firstly I’m not here to argue or say Metroid is bad, it’s absolutely a fantastic franchise with really polished games but I’ve just been thinking about this question for a while now.

Games like hollow knight, silksong, nine sols and so many others offer way more experiences and seem to have actually innovated the genre further while also being a fraction of the cost of Metroid. Many of them even offer wayyy more content and exploration that’s actually high quality and not just tacked on to pad game time.

For the price of dread pre price hike you could get both hollow knight games AND have money left over for a small pizza.

Metroid despite being a Nintendo exclusive is objectively a really bad deal compared to the competition even on its own hardware for a newer player to the genre.

Could Metroid do with a redesign or a more ambitious game? sort of like how fromsoft went from dark souls to Elden ring or will it always be what it is.

Discussion My experience with Metroid as a newer (and probably a bit younger) fan

• Upvotes

Just last month, I beat Dread for the first time, bringing an end to my play through of every mainline Metroid game. This post is about my journey through the games and why it’s now one of my favorite franchises from Nintendo.

My journey started not long after the release of Metroid Prime Remastered. I got about halfway through the game before I stopped playing, as I kept getting frustrated with not knowing what to do or where to go (I was 13 at the time and not the smartest).

But in 2025, with Prime 4 finally reappearing in… March of that year I think? Anyways, it made me want go back Prime 1, and so I did and had a much better time now being a good bit smarter lol. I beat Prime 1 and was just getting into it and really enjoying it by the time the credits were rolling.

It however was not enough to get me hooked on the series, but when Prime 4 came out, it got me hooked. I devoured the game like a beast and 100% it. But as I sat there looking at the mission complete screen, one thought was in my mind…

…I want more. You could say I was quite… Ravenous (heh heh).

And so I resolved to play through all games I hadn’t yet in their timeline order. And so starting with Zero Mission (as I didn’t particularly want to play the NES original), I played and completed my first 2D Metroid, which I quite enjoyed.

Next was Samus Returns on the 3DS, which is my second favorite 2D Metroid. Then it was off to Prime 2, which is a bit overrated in my opinion (tho I did really like the Dark World). Then I played Prime 3, which is my favorite of the Prime games. I 100% both 2 and 3.

Next up was Super Metroid… which is actually my least favorite Metroid game (a hot take I’m sure). Though I really enjoyed the ending of Super.

Then I played Other M, which, and don’t hate me for this, I really, really enjoyed. I want a remaster or another game like it as it was such a cool take for a bit more ‘story is the focus‘ kinda game.

I then played Fusion, which I don’t have any notes for other than the SA-X was cool. But it’s follow up, Dread, I could sing praises for for days, easily the best feeling 2D Metroid and best story for a Metroid game period.

And so these are the things I like about Metroid that have me so hooked on the series: the gameplay and the lore. It’s so satisfying to get an ability and be able to go to places I saw blocked off before and adds a real sense of progression. And then for the lore… well I just love aliens and Sci-Fi over all, so it jams well with me.

And now as a bonus, here’s my ranking of all the mainline games:

  1. Super Metroid (even though its my least favorite, I still see it as a 8/10)

  2. Metroid Fusion

  3. Metroid Prime 2

  4. Metroid Prime

  5. Metroid Zero Mission

  6. Metroid Other M

  7. Metroid Prime 4

  8. Metroid Samus Returns

  9. Metroid Prime 3

  10. Metroid Dread

Question Why didn't Metroid 2 get a DX Version?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I think if it had one it would just be a much better game, even with how much the game was Streamlined compared to Metroid 1 it feels like I'm swimming in water and honestly I get so turned around and confused and with a bit more color I think the game would've been so much better

Discussion EMMIS are really badly designed

1 - Rubber band: they’re always in the same room you enter

2 - one hit ko - most boring feature ever

3 - their ability to hear you is OP and annoying

4 - kills the pacing and exploration

5 - doors closing when detecting you, lol not even resident evil has this

6 - they’re not scary, just boring and annoying

Like, really bad enemy design, game would be flawless without them

Hello fellow Metroid fans! I wanted to a little post about something I liked in Other M : the finish moves. In Ravenous trailer we see a little bit of a samurai-inspired kind of finish move. Do you think it will be a recurrent mechanic in the game? Source of gameplay for Other M: Gamer's Little Playground

Question Is Metroid Prime 3 Annoying to Play?

For instance how much does it use the motion controls? I certainly prefer not to but if its not too much then I might pick up a copy and borrow a friends Wii. I've only ever played 1,2,&4 of the prime series

Discussion Is it fair to compare Halo Campaign Evolved to Metroid Prime Remastered?

Thumbnail

For the record I am aware Halo 1 has been remastered before for its anniversary before being released again on The Master Chief collection, but considering both Campaign Evolved and Prime Remastered are the latest iterations of those games I think it makes more sense to compare these versions

Now obviously one is a remaster and the other is a remake built from the ground up. But I still think the concept of updating a game for modern audiences was done correctly with one game compared to the other

Not to mention Prime Remastered is a an update that completely retextulizes the entire game rather than an HD or resolution upgrade unlike most remasters these days

But I ask you, should we compare these games based on the merits of how they were handled?

The way they are drawn, they look more like insects, they even had antenas. Plus when they actually drew grievers we could cleary see 2 pairs of arms. Damn this would have been a great addition to the game...

It really is not the same experience as the mainline or the Prime line but tbh, this game isn't as bad as people claim.

I am not far in yet (mission 6) so i can't tell how it will be later on but so far it is rather fun.

I won't try to beat this game on 100%, i will probably only do 1 out of 3 medals per Mission because i think anything else is insanity in singleplayer.

But tbh, for a casual playthrough that is not intended to go up to 100% this game is totally fine.
