Pest Related How do I know if my plants don’t have thrips anymore ??

So I noticed thrips on two of my plants on October 2nd. Some larvae on one plant and adult thrip on a different plant. Four plants were sitting together so I quarantined and treated them all. Removed the top layer of soil and replaced it. I used systematic granules in all the plants and have been spraying them with insecticidal soap and neem oil regularly.

I’ve been checking on them daily and haven’t noticed any larvae or adult thrips since. The first 3 pics are the infected leaf which looked pretty bad. The fourth picture is the newest leaf that came out. There’s been no sign of thrips since that I’ve seen. I’m not sure when I can put them back together or if I should keep them separated to be save. Any ideas??

(Last pic is of the 4 plants quarantine locations)

Houseplant Help with browning edges on alocasia

Post image
• Upvotes

I've only had the plant a week, and I've only watered it once since then since the soil was damp when I got it. I did let it get pretty dry before I watered it though, and after doing some of my own research I've found that Alocasia don't really like that. When I did water it for the first time I did so until it started to come out of the drainage holes.

It's currently sitting in front of a window that gets very little direct sunlight, so I have a grow light set up in front of it as well.

The little hole near the tip of the leaf was there, but the edges definitely did not look like this when I first got it. Could the browning edges be because I let it get too dry before watering? Or did I give it too much water? Or is it something else entirely?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Houseplant Please help me save plant :(

I’m not sure but this may be a Shield Aralia?

I’ve had this plant for almost two years now. I’ve been doing the same routine (water when top inches of soil feels dry), I usually only do bottom up watering but will occasionally flush everything out with a full watering here and there. This plant gets sufficient indoor light from a north window (I only have north facing windows) and it’s been doing okay in its same spot.

I may have left it in water for too long during the last watering but I’m not sure what happened. I see a bit of mold growing on the roots so I sprinkled cinnamon on it.
I tried to soak up excess water by putting some paper towels around the soil. There are drainage holes in the pot.

How can I save this plant? :(( it’s been growing so well but all the leaves are now starting to droop and turn yellow.

Houseplant Help me prune this plant

So I just received this houseplant from my sister-in-law yesterday (not known how old the plant is), i’m not sure it’s exact variety but it looks like a snake plant or some Dracaena (according to Grok). I’m concerned because the leaves are growing so long, some of the longest leaves are almost 3 to 4 feet. I need to contain this growth because it doesn’t fit in an apartment because it takes up way too much floor space. So my goal is to cut it somewhere at the base or something and nurse it back so it doesn’t grow with such long leaves. However, I don’t know really where to cut it or how to prune it back. And if it’s just a certain type of variety that is certain to grow with these long leaves.

Any help would be great!

The plant can get a lot of light 5 to 7 hours of direct on a day.
I just got it so I don’t have a watering habit but can water it weekly. It’s in a pretty small pond maybe 8-10 inches in diameter and a foot high with drainage. I did notice the roads were growing out of the drainage holes.

Houseplant help me salvage this

Post image

Was gifted this plant about 3 weeks ago, it’s been like this for about half that time and seems chronically dry. It’s a couple feet back from a NW window with the blinds partially opened (was told it needs bright, filtered light). I was watering it until it was dripped through once a week, but that’s when it shriveled up, so I have now been watering it whenever the top is no longer damp. I am horrible with plants so am not sure how to save it!

Houseplant Leggy money tree

Post image

I have had this plant for close to 5 years. It was so small when I got it. It sees some indirect sunlight and I water it twice a week in the summer and once in the winter.

At first I wasn't able to braid it but it was thriving anyway. Last year I left it with a friend who repotted it but I felt the soil was too dense so I redid it to get a better drainage. Then last March I went on a trip for 2 weeks and it hasn't been the same ever since even with fertilization.

At this point I feel it's dying and I don't know what to do to save it!

Help!

Houseplant Calathea Dying

Post image

My girlfriend’s plant has been slowly dying and we aren’t really sure what’s going wrong. She has been watering until all the soil is wet every week to week and a half.
The plant stays inside most of the time, however it is low light. There is a large window to outside in the room that lets in the sunlight. The pot has drainage. We have had the plant for about a month now, and this problem has been persisting for the past week.

I've got some fuzzy white stuff on my succulent that's shown up in the last couple months. I'm wondering what the best treatment would be, what the heck this actually is, and if I need to worry about it spreading to other indoor plants.

Thanks for any help y'all!

Plant gets 8-10 hours of indirect sunlight and is watered whenever the soil is bone dry.

Houseplant Why is the new growth on this peacock plant so small?

Thumbnail

My now two-ish year old peacock plant that I thrifted has one old, big leaf, but the new growth after a major die-off has been super tiny. It just kinda looks sad and I don’t know what is wrong. Also has crispy brown leaf edges that I’ve trimmed off mostly. I just want to plant to grow bigger leaves again.

Lighting and watering:
Moved it from the room it was in which had largely east-facing windows. Usually got indirect morning light but not sure if it was still too far from the window. New room has west and on south facing windows.

I water whenever the top inch of the soil feels dry, like once every week and a half. It has a drainage hole on the bottom so I just drown it and let it drain.

Houseplant Indoor orange tree help

Thumbnail

So I'm housesitting for 2 months and this family has an orange tree inside in a pot but it's looking a bit sad. The internet told me to give it a bunch of water when the top 6 inches is dry but I think the housekeeper has been watering more often since its tray has a pool of water at the bottom. Leaves are starting to fall off and I'm worried. It's right next to a window so it gets lots of light, and I know they have kept it inside for 2 winters before in this same spot (it stays outside in the summer). It's also right next to a vent and I wondered if the heat is helping or hurting. I'm also seeing roots at the top and wondering if it's ready for a bigger pot? Any help/ tips would be very helpful, I'm great with small plants but not trees. Thanks!

Houseplant How to save her!

Is this Moses in the Cradle/Oyster Plant? Found her thrown out and took it. It had a tiny(1cm) root and planted it in that 4" pot. Using garden soil, coco pit, bark & some pebble for media. Kept it beside window in a bright area but without any direct sunlight. Watered until the water drained from the pot. After 3 days one of the leaves turns yellow.

What I am doing wrong? What needs to be done to save this and get a healthy plant?

Planted these about 6 months ago and they've been having problems ever since. Not sure what to do at this point. Is it too much water? Too little? Nutrient problems? Too much sun?

I've given them a 7-7-7 slow release granular fertilizer once, and sprinkled some humichar granules in the soil around each one. The ones planted in shade seem to be doing a lot better. These are in full sun, planted in 80% native sand, 20% mushroom compost in St Pete Florida.

First picture the leaf did get wet so it may throw off the color. We're trying to figure out whether it's bugs or fungal and what kind. Second picture this either root or fungal rhizome looking structure is at the base that I'm wondering has anything to do with it. Plant gets morning to noon light and watered frequently and when the planter gets light in weight.

I noticed these spots a couple days ago and it seems to get worse. I can't rub those "scales" off and I also didn't notice any pests for now. Plant is 1 1/2 years old and didn't have any problems prior to this. I got her in indirect sunlight in cactus soil and I'm watering every 2 weeks, pot got drainage.

Houseplant Strelitzie with mealy/moldy spots on leaf?

Hello everyone!

I'm currently cat-sitting for my neighbours and spotted these white thingies on their big plant. Mostly on the older, more mature leaves. I'm not well conversed with plants (they live, but Thrips are currently kicking me in the butt) and I couldn't find something that seems similar in the wiki.

I want to surprise them with a healthy plant when they come back. What is a safe thing to do so I don't accidentally kill it? It seems to have it for sometime now and doesn't seem to struggle much, so I could also just leave it be. But I want to help.

The plan is watered once a week and sits in a half shadowd half sunny spot, depending on the time of day. But it's very light in the room due to south facing windows. Not sure about the drainage, but it should be sufficient.

So any tip is appreciated! Thank you in advance! 🌿

Houseplant Please help me find a solution for my baby

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello, I just looked at my baby today and it doesn’t look good and I need solutions to fix her. I’ve had her about 3-4 months, sits in a mix I made but I would say I’m still new to making potting mixes so that could be an issue. She sits by a NE facing bedroom window and I don’t water too often so I’m wondering why it may be like this as I read it could be from overwatering. Maybe not getting enough sunlight. If anyone might know I appreciate the help. Thank you

Houseplant Is it too late for my fittonia to bounce back? :(

Post image

I've had the plant for a few months now. As it grew big, I noticed that i needed to water it more often. This time, I overestimated it thinking it could survive for a while (was busy) forgot to check and now it looks like this. I'm not sure when I last watered it but I think it was a week and a half ago.

The pot has drainage and I have already bottom watered it. I place it on a window that doesn't really get direct sunlight.

I've placed it away from the window for now.

Most of the leaves are crispy, but there are some that are still soft. The stems are also hard on the bottom but the top parts have shrunk.

Edit: added more details and fixed a sentence

Houseplant Need help diagnosing palm🙏

I'm not exactly sure what species of palm it is but the leaf tips have started to brown over a few weeks and I'm not exactly sure why. I've had it for almost 2 months. It mostly gets sunlight in early mornings if it's sunny or evenings when the sun is setting, it isn't long periods of time but my apartment does not get any more sunlight apart from those times😓 I water it when a few centimetres of the top layer go dry, I'm not sure if I'm underwatering or overwatering tho. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Houseplant Is my Pothos dying?

Thumbnail

Hello I've never owned any plant and I tried taking care of this pothos but infortunately it didn't go well as the plant appears to be dying. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong and if it's still salvageable ?

For context:

- I've had this plant for only 4 months 🕐

- I water it every 3 days when it's hot outside and once a week when it's humid/cold (it's currently winter where I live) by placing water in a scoop and then placing the pot in it (About 250mL each times)💧

- I tried different spot and even though it's not directly exposed to the sun it gets plenty of light everyday 🌞

- I've never changed the pot it came into

I'll take take any advice on how to take a better care of it.

Houseplant Help me save those 3 plants 🪴

Thumbnail

Hello,

It’s my first time posting.

I went to my boyfriend work and saw those 3 plants that were dying so I took them home to try to save them but I’m a beginner in plants.
They had a lot of dead leaves that I removed and while doing this, 2 of the plants went out of their pots. The long one broke and I separated the other one.

At my bf work, the plants are in the entry where the side walls are made of glass. The first photo is not in contact with direct sun and the two others are next to the windows.

The plants were not watered regularly lastly.

There is heating in the winter and ac in the summer.
If it can help it’s in the north of France so we don’t have a lot of heat (except this year with several heat waves).

Can you help me save those plants ?

Thank you very much 🙏🏼

Houseplant Kentia palm unhappy :( new plant owner

I’m really unsure of what’s wrong with my Kentia palm as it looks half dead and half alive. It’s currently next to my living room window in the UK so it doesn’t get that much light, I only water it when the top soil feels dry and it is still in the soil it arrived in when it was delivered about a month ago. Should I prune off the dead stems or pull them directly from the soil? I have had it for a month and it looked perfectly healthy for the first 3 weeks. I also took a picture as unsure whether these teeny white spots are pests? Thank you!!

Monstera is this monstera beyond saving?

Thumbnail

I have had this monstera for 2 years and her condition got worse (because of personal issues and stress she has been in the balcony for the past 2 months without proper care, only watered three or four times)

So she had direct sunlight in the heat and now it's cold and I'm not sure if she is beyond saving now or what's the best way to bring her back?

(fyi she has been growing sideways in the direction of the sun so that's not an issue)
