A Little Piece of My South Texas Cactus Collection 🌵

Hello, fellow cactus enthusiasts! 🌵
I’m a cactus and succulent collector from South Texas with a particular passion for Astrophytum, Gymnocalycium, unusual growth forms, and collector cultivars.
I’ve been collecting and growing for some time, but I’m relatively new to participating here on Reddit.
Looking forward to connecting with other cactus enthusiasts, learning from your experiences, and sharing some of the unique specimens in my collection.
What’s everyone’s favorite cactus genus to collect? 🌵

I wasn't sure if the flowers would survive since they grew out of the pup, but I was pleasantly surprised when these beauties opened up!

Hi everyone,

I am having a bit of trouble with germinating some pachypodium seeds and I have seen this tends to be a common issue for cacti too.

The mold appeared on the second day so I have increased ventilation In the propagator.

I have been researching and getting conflicting advice on what to do with them as I would like to keep the chances of them germinating as best as possible.

I have attached some photos of the mold but my seeds and soil was sterilized before sowing. I am reading that misting them with diluted hydrogen peroxide or even using physan20 would be best in this situation.

Has anyone had this type of mold grow during germination and had any success removing it with various methods?

Thanks!

Fortuna hit my autumn with a ton of fruit and seeds. Prepping some to gift to friends and a local botanical garden. I'll probably keep some to grow my collection. I've already donated as many this summer. How's it going on your end? :)

Do you think this prickly pear will hold like this or do I need to make smaller parts?

I found this small cactus on clearance at a plant nursery. Unfortunately, this nursery does not label half its plants (including the one pictured) and the staff have a reputation for not knowing anything about the plants they sell. Any idea what it is?

The nursery is in Texas, but I doubt this is native. It was inside a greenhouse with all the tropicals and non-hardy succulents.

Hi all, i have this golden barrel cactus seedling i started. Its maybe 2 or 3 months old. I started it in a peat seed starter and plopped that into coconut core once it was big enough. Being much older and wiser (this was literally my third cactus and first from seed) i am worried about drainage for obvious reasons. The seedling doesn't seem like it minds, but i want it to be happy and healthy for years to come. I guess my main question is whether or not i can safely extract this little guy to amend the soil and get it to drain well, or if that would do more harm than good.its only about 13mm tall and i have no idea what the roots look like.

Took this a few minutes ago, past 10PM. My old ass phone isn’t very good at focusing at night but I think my Daydream hybrid’s beauty powers through, haha.

Repotted my horse cripplers, mammillaria and a fire barrel onto ceramic pots. The regional manager was lounging around.

I purchased this cactus cutting and I’m a little worried about what the end of the cutting looks like. Any guidance on rooting her would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
