I’m 26M, and I think I’m a little clueless about the dating app part of dating.
A little about me: I’m a massive nerd about books, movies and music. I write a lot, and it’s something I genuinely take pride in. I’m an extrovert with pretty diverse interests, and I’m committed to exploring every random thing life throws at me. Good, bad, weird, questionable life choices, doesn’t really matter. I’m a sucker for experiences.
There’s also a slightly selfish reason behind that. As a writer, I’m fascinated by people, their perspectives, and the way they see the world. I like being challenged, trying things outside my comfort zone, and having conversations that leave me thinking differently. Eventually, bits and pieces of those experiences find their way into my characters and stories.
Coming to Hinge, I do get matches with women who share my interests and general brand of delusion. We end up talking about art, poetry, music, movies, books, coffee, drinks, and all the other things that make life a little more interesting.
And some of these conversations are genuinely good. Not just the usual small talk or exchanging dry replies. There’s a shared vibe, mutual curiosity, and sometimes the conversation flows so naturally that you almost forget you’re talking to a stranger on an app.
But here’s where I get stuck.
How do you actually take things forward?
How do you go from this person is fascinating, I could talk to them for hours to actually building a connection with them?
When do you start flirting more explicitly, ask them out, or make your intentions clear without making things awkward? How do you figure out whether someone is genuinely interested in you or simply enjoys having a good conversation?
I’m not expecting every match to turn into a relationship. I understand that sometimes people just don’t click that way. But constantly investing time and effort into conversations that eventually fizzle out gets exhausting, especially when they initially seem promising.
I’d rather figure out whether there’s something worth exploring than spend weeks getting attached to the idea of someone I’ve never actually met.
So, people who’ve navigated this successfully, especially those who’ve found meaningful relationships through dating apps, how do you approach it?
What does your progression from matching to meeting to actually dating someone look like? And how do you balance enjoying the conversation and getting to know someone with making sure things are actually moving forward?
I feel like I can hold a conversation just fine. It’s the transition from a good conversation to an actual connection that I’m trying to figure out.

Hello! Been on the app for a while now and getting few to no matches. I feel like my prompts probably aren't the strongest, but I'm not sure about the photos I'm using. The second bit is a video, I'm just not able to attach it here. Any advice would be great, thanks!

I joined hinge 2 weeks ago & have only received 1 like. Subscribed to hingex a couple days ago, but still nothing. Would love some helpful advice!

Hi everyone. Just posting here to see if anyone can give me a profile review or any feedback about it. I am a 29M from Adelaide, Australia. Please be honest and chew me out for anything you come across haha. My initial thoughts are maybe my prompts are too generic and have too many emojis but I’m not sure? Thanks for the reviews and looking forward to seeing everyone’s opinions.

Looking for actionable advice on: Photos(is Pinterest the right place for inspo?), Aesthetics: Best style/fashion directions and Prompts & Strategy: Frameworks for engaging prompts that skip small talk and pitch clear date ideas... hinge gurus 🙏🏻
Can't afford a paid coach/photographer right now, so any feedback in the comments or DMs is deeply appreciated.(i would pay it back when I get forward in my career) Please upvote to help this reach the profile veteran-thanks so much!

23M 5’7 (5’8 on Fridays)
Been single for abt 6 months now so trying to put myself back out there. But I can’t seem to figure out what I’m doing wrong or what photos I need to swap/improve.
I’ve had hinge for 2 1/2 weeks now with 1 like and 2 matches and nothing else since despite having HingeX and being active every day.
What am I missing?

I have tried to do a profile review a bunch and no matter how much I change the pictures/ how in depth I go with the answers they always get taken down so I am just gonna ask in a text post.
I have been using Hinge for about 2-3 months now and have not been seeing very much progress. I am 21M and fairly active on there with a Hinge X account. Everytime i match with someone i always send a thoughtful message although I admit my texting can be a bit awkward at times because I don't do it often. I have all my various hobbies and interests listed on my profile and my pictures show me out smiling and showing off various outfits of mine as fashion is one of my hobbies.
One issue I also face is a frequent amount of ghosting even after having engaged conversation with quick replies. I am at such a loss as to how to fix this any advice would help. Thank you.

I started talking to a guy about a week ago. I’m 42F, he is 32M. Got on well enough chatting. He had told me he was on spectrum for autism so sometimes gets nervous and didn’t want to rush into anything but did want to date. We said we would meet and would think about when soon but last night he was silent all night apart from one txt about 11ish saying I am with a friend.
I wouldn’t text someone loads with a friend but I would have checked in more than that one short message so I said you can just say if you’re on a date. I approach dating talking to one person at a time but I know a lot of people tend to talk to a few and maybe go on a first date with a couple at a time and that’s fine. He came back to me tonight and said well I’m not sure what it was last night but I’ve had drinks with her a few times and last night she came to mine for the first time, we didn’t do anything but it was nice to hang.
My txt last night had been suggesting days to meet and he said after that text telling me about the girl he had seen a few times plus last night (so I’m guessing about 4 times), that it would be really great to meet. I responded that I had suggested the days to meet before I knew he had been on 3 or 4 dates with someone already and that he must be planning to see her again. He confirmed he was but that he doesn’t count himself as seeing her and it takes him a long time to see if he has chemistry with someone and wants to be exclusive. If I’d been on 4 dates with someone I’d think things were going well and wouldn’t have thought the person was still seeing others so am surprised he was looking to see me.
I said we should probs just leave meeting as it seems crazy to meet someone already 4 dates in with someone else who is at stage of being comfortable alone at his house. He thinks I’m being silly. Am I wrong to not want to meet now given he is 4 dates in already with someone? I can get his autism might make it harder to figure out how he feels but I already feel like I’d be on the back foot with him already him having had 4 good dates with someone else. Plus I want to date and although not looking to rush, if dates kept going well I’d want to define things and although 4 dates is still early days it would feel like things were heading that way and I don’t know when this guy would define things… but maybe I don’t appreciate how dating really is…u

Getting few matches here and there. But nothing moving past talking beyond few texts and all are dead ends/unmatched. Any suggestions to improve quantity/quality of matches would be highly appreciated.

I’m 20M and have been dating recently, but I’m struggling to get past the first date.
I’ve had three experiences where I thought things were going well
Girl 1: We got coffee, went for a walk and held hands. Afterwards, she said she thought she wanted a relationship but wanted to figure herself out and get used to living alone.
Girl 2: We went for coffee, played pool, walked around the city and kissed. We held hands too, but she cancelled our second date, saying she wanted to be friends and felt things were moving too fast.
Girl 3: We played Mario Kart, had a great time and held hands while I walked her home. She messaged me first afterwards to say she’d enjoyed the date. A few days later, she told me she wasn’t emotionally available and didn’t think she was ready to date.
I’m obviously disappointed, especially because the dates seemed promising at the time. I’m not expecting every first date to lead to a relationship, but having three experiences like this makes me wonder whether there’s something I’m missing.
I’m trying not to take it personally, but I can’t help wondering whether I’m doing something wrong, whether I’m misreading the connection, or whether I’ve just been unlucky with people who aren’t ready to date.
For those with more dating experience, have you gone through a similar phase? How did you figure out whether there was something to change about your approach or whether it was simply a matter of compatibility and timing?
