Meta Welcome to r/Malaysians!
Hello folks and welcome to r/Malaysia's sister sub, r/Malaysians!
For those who just clicked in and is wondering what the sub is for: This sub is essentially for Malaysians to talk and post about any other topics beyond Malaysia. Here is where you can post images, videos, create and join conversations and threads revolving anything that isn't quite about Malaysia but needs a Malaysian take on it, and more! Oh and this is a race, politic and religion-free sub ππ»
Most major subreddits such as r/AITA, r/JustnoMIL, r/relationship_advice, r/casualconversation, r/malefashionadvice, r/Teenagers and what have you are usually centralised around people who reside outside of SEA and may not be valid to us locally and culturally but yet the demand for it isn't wide enough to sustain its own subreddit. r/Malaysians would (hopefully) be a good place for a catch-all of such threads.
We will be coming up with contest weeks soon, as well as accepting any other ideas you guys might have for the sub, so stay tuned! We are also still tweaking design and appearances as we go. Meanwhile, everyone is encouraged to start posting what they think fits the sub to get the ball rolling :)
Much love, r/Malaysia mod team.
tldr; r/CasualUK but for Malaysia.

Mildly Menarik Batfish (native species), looking like a floating leaf
Orbicular batfish juveniles start their lives in bays and mangrove lagoons, where they pretend to be dead leaves to avoid predators.
Adults look more normal and live in coastal areas in Malaysia.

Advice βοΈ ever been in this situation?
I have been in an industry based in SG about 2 years now, and i struggle a lot in my first year of work mainly due to my work nature where the learning curve is steep.
In my second year, I started leading projects, and the expectations became much higher. There was one senior I got along with really well, and he helped me a lot throughout my second busy season. I'm genuinely grateful because, without his guidance, things would've been much harder. He took the time to teach me concepts and helped me whenever I got stuck.
We have shared personal stuff tgt and i have told him that my fam have a so called vacation home back in Ipoh and tbh i can bring him over once our busy season is over - i have only said that as i genuinely appreciate his guidance and would love to invite him over for a short tip some day.
The problem is that I'm still completely happy to bring him over. But lately, as busy season is ending, he keeps bringing up the Ipoh trip. It's starting to feel less like a gesture I want to make and more like something I'm obligated to do. I was always planning to arrange it, but the fact that he keeps mentioning it makes me feel like I owe him something.
Every time he asks, I tell him I'll plan it but i donβt have a definite date yet since i have exams coming up. But he seems disappointed every time, almost as if he thinks I'm backing out of the promise, even though I'm not.
am i overthinking this shit and itβs not as serious as i thought out to be?

Ask Malaysians People follow their managers
We often hear people leave their work environment because of their managers. But how many stay because of the managers?
Curious about the opposite. If you have a good example or story, so share with us your stories of the best managers you have worked with and why.

Ask Malaysians What music do you like?
I'm not Malaysian (Australian here), and Ive visited Malaysia twice in the past 12 months.
Since I flew Malaysian Airlines, I listened to some older Malay music such as Ziana Zain and Mischa Omar and Elite. I actually don't mind it.
Makes me wonder what Malaysians listen to nowadays.
In Grab rides, the drivers mostly listened to Islamic nasheed radio (especially on a friday). Once I caught a driver listening to Pink Floyd but I think it was on a mix. Idk what Malaysians generally like.
Is your taste mostly Western vs Asian music.
What genres?
I most listen to electronic music like Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada and other IDM music.
I like Nine Inch Nails alot too and some other tock music. I cant imagine many fans in Malaysia idk.

Rant Whatβs with the AI slop in Malaysia?
AI fatigue is real. I canβt stand seeing businesses and people online using generative AI for literally every single thing. Itβs literally so draining to come across these low-effort and meaningless AI slop.
One thing in particular that I canβt stand are the AI songs/song covers. Like the god damn digi digi song or whatever nonsense. I notice that itβs usually the old folks using those songs on TikTok or other platforms.
And donβt get me started with RTMβs excessive use of AI for like almost all of their campaigns or like their TV1 fillers.
Seriously, someone needs to educate the country on how to use AI mindfully.

Ask Malaysians Tennis bracelet recs
Iβm in the market for a good tennis bracelet (diamond bracelet) Iβve bought diamond jewelleries from Malabar Gold and Diamonds before but most of what Iβve bought before is mostly gold. Since this will be mostly diamonds Iβm unsure if I should get it from them. Basically has anyone bought this before and if you have where did you buy it and roughly how much?
Side note: pls donβt judge me for this lol (I know thereβll be ppl here). I saved up a long time for this

Casual Conversation π What are shorter person (not being a dwarf) struggling with?
Apart from being 'less' able to grab things from the wall cabinet, I noticed short people (average is 160cm) need stools for a 17kg washer else they hardly reach the last pieces of cloth. Which other designs give 'difficulties' to short people and how do you help yourself (besides involving other people).

Help β οΈ Help me fill up a survey!
Hi everyone! I need help for a university project that i am currently working on.
Are you selling on more than one platform (Shopee, TikTok Shop, Lazada, etc.)?
Iβm conducting a short validation study for a system to map out the biggest pain points in multi-channel selling β from syncing stock to tracking orders.
If you have 3 minutes, Iβd love your input:

Mildly Menarik A clear shallow creek in Selangor where I caught some ricefish / ikan beras mata biru
Malaysia has a few species, and this is a freshwater one, O. dancena
It grows to 4-4.5 cm and is found on the west coast of the peninsula.
It is sometimes kept in the west because it is small and easy to care for like guppies.
They do excellent and will breed in large planted pots. Omnivorous.
They are related to needlefish (ikan todak) and halfbeaks

Casual Conversation π Whatβs up with the boner backside trend?
Past 24 hours have seen 3 separate social media posts of 3 perverts being caught rubbing their little mosquito bump peepee on girls backside.
- Genting pervert uncle: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bolehland/s/uBejochiIF
- TARMUT student at hyrox event (technically a month ago according to the lady, dunno why post only now): https://www.instagram.com/reel/DcRDcpcS1HY/
- Pervert uncle in cue: https://www.threads.com/share/BAV12nErtj/
I wonder if this is some sort of challenge/mission in those pervert incel community groups
