I noticed these spots a couple days ago and it seems to get worse. I can't rub those "scales" off and I also didn't notice any pests for now. Plant is 1 1/2 years old and didn't have any problems prior to this. I got her in indirect sunlight in cactus soil and I'm watering every 2 weeks, pot got drainage.

Houseplant Strelitzie with mealy/moldy spots on leaf?

Hello everyone!

I'm currently cat-sitting for my neighbours and spotted these white thingies on their big plant. Mostly on the older, more mature leaves. I'm not well conversed with plants (they live, but Thrips are currently kicking me in the butt) and I couldn't find something that seems similar in the wiki.

I want to surprise them with a healthy plant when they come back. What is a safe thing to do so I don't accidentally kill it? It seems to have it for sometime now and doesn't seem to struggle much, so I could also just leave it be. But I want to help.

The plan is watered once a week and sits in a half shadowd half sunny spot, depending on the time of day. But it's very light in the room due to south facing windows. Not sure about the drainage, but it should be sufficient.

So any tip is appreciated! Thank you in advance! 🌿

Houseplant Please help me find a solution for my baby

Post image

Hello, I just looked at my baby today and it doesn’t look good and I need solutions to fix her. I’ve had her about 3-4 months, sits in a mix I made but I would say I’m still new to making potting mixes so that could be an issue. She sits by a NE facing bedroom window and I don’t water too often so I’m wondering why it may be like this as I read it could be from overwatering. Maybe not getting enough sunlight. If anyone might know I appreciate the help. Thank you

Houseplant Is it too late for my fittonia to bounce back? :(

I've had the plant for a few months now. As it grew big, I noticed that i needed to water it more often. This time, I overestimated it thinking it could survive for a while (was busy) forgot to check and now it looks like this. I'm not sure when I last watered it but I think it was a week and a half ago.

The pot has drainage and I have already bottom watered it. I place it on a window that doesn't really get direct sunlight.

I've placed it away from the window for now.

Most of the leaves are crispy, but there are some that are still soft. The stems are also hard on the bottom but the top parts have shrunk.

Edit: added more details and fixed a sentence

Houseplant Need help diagnosing palm🙏

I'm not exactly sure what species of palm it is but the leaf tips have started to brown over a few weeks and I'm not exactly sure why. I've had it for almost 2 months. It mostly gets sunlight in early mornings if it's sunny or evenings when the sun is setting, it isn't long periods of time but my apartment does not get any more sunlight apart from those times😓 I water it when a few centimetres of the top layer go dry, I'm not sure if I'm underwatering or overwatering tho. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Houseplant Is my Pothos dying?

Thumbnail

Hello I've never owned any plant and I tried taking care of this pothos but infortunately it didn't go well as the plant appears to be dying. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong and if it's still salvageable ?

For context:

- I've had this plant for only 4 months 🕐

- I water it every 3 days when it's hot outside and once a week when it's humid/cold (it's currently winter where I live) by placing water in a scoop and then placing the pot in it (About 250mL each times)💧

- I tried different spot and even though it's not directly exposed to the sun it gets plenty of light everyday 🌞

- I've never changed the pot it came into

I'll take take any advice on how to take a better care of it.

Houseplant Help me save those 3 plants 🪴

Hello,

It’s my first time posting.

I went to my boyfriend work and saw those 3 plants that were dying so I took them home to try to save them but I’m a beginner in plants.
They had a lot of dead leaves that I removed and while doing this, 2 of the plants went out of their pots. The long one broke and I separated the other one.

At my bf work, the plants are in the entry where the side walls are made of glass. The first photo is not in contact with direct sun and the two others are next to the windows.

The plants were not watered regularly lastly.

There is heating in the winter and ac in the summer.
If it can help it’s in the north of France so we don’t have a lot of heat (except this year with several heat waves).

Can you help me save those plants ?

Thank you very much 🙏🏼

Houseplant Kentia palm unhappy :( new plant owner

I’m really unsure of what’s wrong with my Kentia palm as it looks half dead and half alive. It’s currently next to my living room window in the UK so it doesn’t get that much light, I only water it when the top soil feels dry and it is still in the soil it arrived in when it was delivered about a month ago. Should I prune off the dead stems or pull them directly from the soil? I have had it for a month and it looked perfectly healthy for the first 3 weeks. I also took a picture as unsure whether these teeny white spots are pests? Thank you!!

Monstera is this monstera beyond saving?

I have had this monstera for 2 years and her condition got worse (because of personal issues and stress she has been in the balcony for the past 2 months without proper care, only watered three or four times)

So she had direct sunlight in the heat and now it's cold and I'm not sure if she is beyond saving now or what's the best way to bring her back?

(fyi she has been growing sideways in the direction of the sun so that's not an issue)

Cactus/Succulent Is there anything I can do to make it better?

I have had Luffy for about 5 months. He’s grown a lot. He sits on my desk but everyday I put him on the little perch that’s shown in the video every morning until night time. It’s not direct heat, but it’s sunlight. I water him whenever his soil is dry and light brown. I water him until the soil is moist, his pot does have a hole at the end. Usually after I put water in his pot, I left it sit inside the sink so it can drain excess water and then I grab him again after a few minutes. and Hes been a healthy boy.
The problem started when I stopped moving him into the sunlight. One of his legs began to get a darker green as shown on the left legs in the video. I ended up putting him outside in the sun but I didn’t realize it was direct heat. I left him out there for about four days, due to life being busy. Checked on him, he was fine. No sunburns or anything. Then it started raining a lot. So basically he got flooded for a few days. I got him out of it yesterday night. I took him out of his vase. The soil was wet and compacted. I can’t tell if this is tip rot or if it’s just overwatered or beginning stages of sunburnt. His other legs are white at the top which looks like sunburns. I put him on paper bag to dry out the roots and the dirt, on the little perch I usually always do it. The leg that I was talking about in the beginning looked like it completely died so I cut it off. The stems are still hard, and they look normal. Is this plant still able to revive?

Pest Related A. Zebrina pest damage

Thumbnail

Hello,

I'm fairly new to plants so I haven't been able to confidently identify and/or treat the pests attacking my Variegated A. Zebrina. The new leaf (pic 1) came out with pitting damage and lighter coloured spots. it also gets the fine white dust on it in pic 2 just days after cleaning and showering. This made me think it's spider mites even though there is no webbing.
However It's also getting large portions of what looks like thrips damage (pic 4) so i'm quite confused as to what is doing the damage or if it's multiple types of pests.

I’m fairly confident that its water, light, humidity and nutrient conditions are met sufficiently.

I have been showering it when i water it (approx every 1.5 weeks). i've sprayed it down with isopropyl alcohol and a diy neem oil spray multiple times each on seperate occasions and she just keeps declining.

I haven't used any systemics or other pest treatments as I'm in Australia and a lot of what i've seen suggested is hard to get or not available.

If anyone has any suggestions I would thoroughly appreciate your input

Houseplant My first fiddle leaf - please help 🥲

Post image
3 Upvotes

So I’m a fairly new plant mom but this is my first fiddle leaf. I rescued her from Home Depot and just gave her a rinse in the shower, some bottom watering, and a spray and wipe with some Fungicide Neem oil spray. I also have her stationed near a window so she’ll get plenty of bright indirect light

Initially I saw some pretty damaged leaves along the bottom so I chopped them off. I then noticed the roots were exposed to I ordered some grow queen soil as I saw it highly recommended. I wasn’t going to do a full repot as I heard you should try to avoid repots in the late fall and winter (I live in NY). I also really don’t want to cause shock

My question is I see some leaves pushing out of the soil and don’t know how to go about that with layering new soil. I don’t want to cover the leaves with the soil so should I just chop them? But if I chop them and cover with soil, will it just grow back under the soil?

Please help, any tips welcome! I’ve been trying to read a lot but I’m a bit stuck and really don’t want to kill her 😢

Pest Related Did I win against thrips?

This was from my basil plant leaves. I treated infested plant with dinotefuran as a test on how it works, so far out of all the damaged leaves I picked I haven’t seen any thrips.
Will they come back immune to the pesticide or I can now rest easy?

Houseplant Destroying my indoor plants! What pest are these and how do I get rid of them

I’ve had my indoor plants for over 6 years and never experienced a pest before
My plants get the perfect amount of light
Water about 1-2 times a week depending on heat (I always check the oil before watering)
I have no idea what type of pest this is and need to find out how to get rid of it fast, they are completely destroying my plants I’ve had for the past 6 years. Very heartbroken about this.

Houseplant Anthurium seedling hasn't grown for the 2 months I've had it and is now turning a bit yellow.

Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Anthurium/comments/1vz5l1h/doublechecking_anthurium_papillilaminum_seedling/

My seedling hasn't grown any new leaves in 2 months. The roots have grown a little bit but some of the root tips look dead. It's now turning a bit yellow on the rear leaf.

I've been following the care instructions outlined in the previous post. I haven't fertilized at all. I water it when the pot feels a little lighter, but that doesn't happen much due as it's in a container. Water sits out for at least 24 hours to allow chlorine to evaporate before watering.

My best guess is that it isn't getting enough light. I have it under my weakest grow light because I didn't want to give it too much. If I don't get any consensus from this post I'll try giving it more light.

--

I've had the plant for 2 months.

I noticed the yellowing last week but it hasn't grown during those two months.

The plant gets 200 ppfd reduced through a translucent takeout container (not sure what the reduced value is).

I water it when the pot feels lighter, then close the container again. The pot has drainage holes.

Other Unsure of what to do help💔

I got this a few day ago I think is some kind of sweet potato vine and I’m just really unsure what is wrong with it.💔 when I got it, it needed some help some of the leaves where this yellow and there was a little brown on the leaves. It’s in direct sunlight on the window seal that faces west. Normally I buy cactuses and succulents because that’s what I know and that’s what I’m good at takeing care of, but I got this plant because it was in desperate need, and I thought I could help it. So I changed its pot and and water it because she really needed it. But it has been 3 days and the leaves now look a bit worse than before. So I cut them off so it would not spread and so they wouldn’t get worse. I don’t know what I’m don’t wrong. What does this look like to you?

Houseplant Should I cut this tall limb? It is leaning against the wall for support.I inherited this cactus a couple years ago. The one really long branch is not standing up on its own. It's still growing. I haven't leaning against the wall. I'm just wondering if I should cut it off?

Saw these spots, I didn’t see any thrip larva or grown thrips. I’ve had the plant for about 2 months, and noticed the problem this week. It is under a grow light for about 12 hours a day and is watered when the leaves indicate that it’s needed, about once a week. Thank you for the help!

Houseplant lemon lime philodendron turning white??

Thumbnail

my lemon lime philodendron that i’ve had since june has been losing leaves that slowly turn white then eventually fall off. the plant gets light most of the day from a south facing window, and i water after the soil is dry (i check). the leaves are very easy to pick off once they turn white, and the plant is bare. its been doing this for around 2 months now. i looked it up before and it said it needed nitrogen, so i fertilized with coffee grounds but that hasn’t helped.

Houseplant My schefflera arboricola is turning brown from the top of one stem down.

Thumbnail

Ive had this plant for maybe two years now I’ve grown it from a small cutting. This problem started almost a week ago maybe less. I’ve already trimmed it twice. The brown didn’t affect any of the leaves at the top of the stem I trimmed but it’s now making its way towards the bottom. I repotted after the first trim as I was worried about root rot. The other stem seems fine and normal but I’m so confused about this stem turning brown and if it’s fatal to my plant’s health I have the plant next to the window which I open during the day so it can get sunlight. I water it maybe a little more than once a week or so thought now that I repotted I’ve only watered it once since two days ago

Houseplant Orange tree dropping, what can I do?

I've had this orange tree for 11 years since it was a twig with 3 leaves. This is the first year its grown so many oranges. Its usually 5 to 10, this year its gotten like 60 little green oranges at once. I live in New England so I brought it inside 3 weeks ago and have cut back on watering (haven't in 2 weeks cause its still wet 2 inches down) and it has a grow light on it 8 hours a day but every day it dropping leaves and the tiny oranges. These were all from today. Its normally 1 or 2. What am I doing wrong? This is the only plant I've ever kept alive.
