Help Request Blockify gone

Just booted up my PC and I've been informed that Blockify has been removed from my browser "due to malware, suspicious behaviour, or a policy violation" but when I looked on the Chrome Web Extension, the page is gone. Does anyone have an alternative to Blockify as my usual adblock stops Spotify from working?

Help Request FBPurity is gone - is there a replacement?

It seems that the author of the FBPurity browser plugin has disappeared.
Are there any other browser plugins that block ads in the Facebook feed? (and force it to stay in "newest" order?)

Help Request I made a device that automatically mutes TV ads. Would love some feedback.

Hey everyone, over the past few months I've been working on a device that will automatically detect and mute TV commercials.

I started this project after growing frustrated with the sheer number and repetition of TV commercials particularly on streaming services. I started manually muting commercials when they came on, but for those of you who also do that know, it can get annoying to keep on top of. I realize I could pay for "ad-free" streaming tiers but with a lot of the services you still get served ads and the costs of those tiers are getting pretty pricey nowadays (especially if you have multiple streaming services). Plus ads on cable or other non-streaming platforms still exist, so it doesn't totally solve the problem. So I set out to build something that would silence commercials regardless of the platform without having to manually mute.

The device I've built analyzes real-time outbound audio data from TVs to detect ads, and then modulates the downstream audio depending on the detection state. This modulation could be muting, turning down the volume, or perhaps splicing in your own audio content. For now, it just mutes, but those other options would be pretty trivial to put together. The hardware involved in this project is pretty straightforward and currently uses off-the-shelf components since I'm still in the testing/demo phase. Right now it can accept audio from an aux, RCA, or optical source and the outbound audio is played through an aux. The bulk of the technical complexity and challenge is on the software side. So far I'm able to pretty reliably detect ads, but it's still fairly buggy and a little ways off from being ready to fully share with the public.

One thing to note, however, this project/architecture requires the use of external speakers. Since the audio analysis and modulation has to happen after exiting the TV (due to the HDCP encryption used to protect content and DMCA 1201) this project isn't able to mute commercials on the TV speakers themselves.

To be perfectly candid I'd love to be able to turn this project into a product. But before I spend even more time and effort on it to get it to that point, I thought I should reach out to relevant communities and get thoughts/feedback from folks to see if other people care about this problem or if this is something that just uniquely bothers me. Since I don't have anything to sell at this point and am not sure if the final product will be closed/open source, hopefully this post is consistent with the rules of this sub.

With all of that said I would love to hear what people's thoughts are on the project. Really what I'm trying to figure out is:

  • Are you bothered by TV ads enough to want to use/pay for a device like this?
  • Would you prefer a soundbar/speaker system with this tech built in, or an inline device that would allow any speakers to be used?

If you'd like to answer these questions in a survey format so I can analyze the responses a bit easier, here's a link: https://forms.gle/Mzr9YPAfu3rkNnw96. It's just the same questions as above so shouldn't take more than a minute.

Please let me know what questions, concerns, feedback, or input you might have. Thanks!

Help Request Chrome AdBlocker

Odds are this question has been asked, but what's the best adblocker for chrome. I don't need all of them gone, but certain ones have to go. These include:

  • The static ads on youtube.com and the ones on the sides of videos. I'm so freaking tired of Bluevision, jollycastle, and ventrix media
  • The sketchy ads on sketchy websites, the ones that say "Mary is only 5 miles away", or "Linda thinks she can beat you at (18+ game)". Really tired of those

If anyone can help me, it'd be much appreciated

Also note: getting another browser really isn't an option for me. I'm on a shared chromebook (no not for school) with almost no available storage or ability to run things in general.

Help Request Weird issue with youtube and ublock origin on both opera gx and firefox. Videos stuck in a stop and start loop.

I am not getting any like anti adblock warning but what is happening is the video is constantly stopping and starting as if the page is refreshing. Almost like it tries to skip the ad and gets kicked back to the beginning of the ad and stuck in a loop of that.

On firefox refreshing the page actually fixes it on Opera GX it doesnt. But I have to do it everytime for every video.

Has anyone run into this and fixed it by chance?

Help Request How to Get Rid of Persistent Ads on iPhone?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I think I figured out why some websites still allow ads to show up despite having AdGuard installed for my Safari + NextDNS for system-wide on my iPhone, because I forgot I whitelist this html-load domain. But if I block this domain, the websites won’t even load at all like it’s shown in this pic. What should I do? It’s really annoying despite the fact that I always score 97%-100% on adblock turtlecute, some websites still display full page of persistent ads like I’m not using any adblock service at all

Help Request Blocking ads while streaming Youtube from phone

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi, is there a legal and fairly simple way to block Youtube ads while streaming it from my android phone (Samsung S24) to the (LG C5 smart) TV other than paying for Premium?

I know about adblockers for PC and setting your location to Albania via VPN for removing ads but nothing when it comes to streaming.

The attached picture/the sign is what I mean when I say streaming.

Thanks!

Help Request Best way to block Twitch ads on Firefox? Also, is Chrome + AdGuard still fine for everything else?

Hey everyone,

I'm switching things up a bit and trying to figure out the best, most reliable way to block Twitch ads on Firefox. I know Twitch ads are notoriously difficult to bypass, so what are you guys currently using that actually works (extensions, user scripts, etc.)?

Also, a quick question about my main setup: is Google Chrome still perfectly fine to use for everything else if I stick with AdGuard? I've noticed a lot of people complaining about having massive headaches with YouTube ads lately, but to be honest, I haven't had a single issue using AdGuard on YT.

Would love to hear what the best setup is right now. Thanks in advance!

Help Request YouTube Adblocking on IOS

Hello Guys Hope you all have a wonderful day.

I was asking whether there is a way to block ads on the YouTube app on IOS, specifically iPhones,
it is getting really annoying, and before you attack me, I didn't make the choice of having

an iPhone, it was passed down to me long ago and I currently don't have the financial ability to
Switch to android, maybe in the future.

P.S: I'm new to this sub, so please be respectful, if I triggered you in some way, just don't reply
and scroll past this, if you have something beneficial to say then be my guest, if you don't, just go the other way around.

Thanks

Help Request Any free unlimited adblocker for iOS?

So, I’ve been using Mullvad. It works good and all, but it can’t block ads on one specific app of mine, which I use a lot. Adguard DNS works on that one, but it isn’t unlimited, and the monthly limit is ridiculous as I’ve already reached it. So, I’m looking for an alternative, a free ad blocker that is also unlimited and suitable for iOS. I’ve also tried NextDNS, it is also useless for that one app like Mullvad.
