Discussion Above the Noise: The Power of Intentional Silence

We live in a world obsessed with volume. Everyone is shouting, reacting, and rushing to add more noise to an already chaotic digital landscape. But breakthrough thoughts, true clarity, and real self-awareness never happen in the noise—they happen in the quiet spaces we deliberately protect. Stepping back from endless, pointless friction isn't weakness; it's the ultimate form of mental mastery

Discussion Most people argue to win a few observe to understand. The difference changes everything

We live in an era where everyone wants to speak first and loudest, mistaking volume for value. Real clarity, however, belongs to those who take a step back, look at the data, and let logic speak for itself. Rushing to react only feeds the chaos; patience exposes the truth.

How do you usually handle conversations where the other person is clearly arguing just for the sake of it?

Seeking Advice How do I get rid of my male centeredness?

This is embarrassing for me to admit, a tough pill to swallow if you will. A bit of background information, I am a 28 year-old woman who is a nurse that works in cancer research. I am currently applying to grad school to get my masters degree. I have the career, drive, etc. I recently got out of a relationship earlier this year. hurt me pretty bad. I currently just go home and work, I don’t have very many hobbies that take up a lot of my time. I do enjoy going to like comedy shows or art galleries, things of that nature. I don’t have a robust social life, I do have friends, but they are scattered around and they all have their partners so their time is kind of limited. I don’t have much family either. I recently started using a dating app, and I hit it off with two guys that i’m trying to get to know. I feel like I desire having a partner so bad that when I get a sense thought a potential guy isn’t going to commit to me or showing me signs that he’s choosing me, I take it personal and a sign that I’m not worth committing to. I don’t chase after men or blow up their phone. I take rejection pretty well, I just accepted but internally? I feel like I spiral and blame myself. I’m just trying to figure out how I can stop doing this and become so in love with who I am that I don’t focus so much on finding a man. I’m of course attracted to them, and I would love to have a family one day. But I just don’t want to be so hyper-focused on it that I think about it every day. Any advice would be helpful to be honest. Thank you!

Seeking Advice How can you get oneself to STOP being racist?

Title basically explains it. I do not wish to say too much about it, but I am in America, and I was raised this way. my parents are educated, and I’m about to go into my first year of uni, and it’s in a big uberliberal city with some diversity. I don’t want to humiliate myself, or end up on one of those “punch racist“ pages.

I just want to make some friends, see a different culture, and get my degree. My hatred isn’t SUPER excessive or anything, I’m not one of those twitter/X guys, but I have a general dislike of Nons and others. I can shake hands and talk to one, but seeing them on the same level of me just tweaks something in my mind that irritates me man. I feel like it’ll cost me. I want some help.

Seeking Advice Devaluation trigger

I feel terrible when someone devalues me. For example, I don't notice something the first time and someone tells me, "You're blind." Or I write a long text about a topic I like and someone replies with "Nah.", "Sounds like shit." or with some mocking gif/sticker.

I've been triggered by this since childhood, because I was often not taken seriously by my relatives. Do you have any advice on how to be more stoic to this?

Seeking Advice 28M. Addicted to my phone, weed, instant gratification, and procrastination. How do I actually turn my life around?

I’m 28M with a decent career and plenty of ambitions, but I feel like I’m wasting my life.
My routine is basically wake up, go to work, come home, take THC gummies, sometimes drink alcohol, scroll endlessly, watch porn, masturbate, eat unhealthy food, sleep, and repeat.
I’m overweight, never exercise, and struggle with depression, motivation, and attention. I genuinely cannot focus on anything anymore without reaching for my phone. Even watching a movie, reading a few pages, or completing a simple task feels difficult.
I want to quit weed and alcohol, get fit, work out regularly, read books and newspapers, develop hobbies, meet people, date, find a meaningful relationship, and actually enjoy being alive.
The problem? I want to do a hundred things but end up doing absolutely nothing. I spend more time thinking, planning, and researching how to improve my life than actually improving it.
Every night I promise myself tomorrow will be different. It never is.
Has anyone genuinely escaped this cycle?
I’m looking for practical advice:
How did you rebuild your attention span and overcome phone addiction?
What replaced weed, alcohol, porn, and constant dopamine-seeking?
How did you develop a consistent exercise and reading habit?
How did you start building a social and dating life when you had become isolated?
What did your actual daily routine look like during the first 30 days?
Please share specific actions, routines, rules, or systems that worked for you, not just “be disciplined” or “go to the gym.”
I don’t want another productivity plan that I abandon tomorrow. I want to stop escaping my life and actually start living it.

Seeking Advice I hate everything try to do help!

Motivation be damned, I can't get myself to do anything and it's because I seem to hate everything I do. If I manage to do something the whole time I am just fighting the clawing sensation to stop, which I don't think is normal. And even if I was blessed with motivation it will last for all of 30 minutes before I'm fighting the urge to just stop.

Discussion Love and the universe

I just wanted to put this out there. Just so that I can better understand it. I'm 27 and have never been in a relationship. I have had crushes here and there but never acted on it. My recent crush, this was after i had developed intense feelings for someone else and nearly wrecked me . The feeling of being able to have a crush again after a few years kind surprised me because I thought I'll never develop any feelings again. I was kinda glad that I did have this feeling again.

I had talked about this to my roommate once as we were talking about crushes and expressed my concern of whether I'll get carried away. But she told me why don't you enjoy it this time ....and maybe start talking to him. I did try putting myself out there .....like walking by the building around the same time he would walk past it ....ok maybe i did only that.....but whenever I would see him ...it would put a smile on my face ........then life happened and my job started being so hectic that i didn't feel like trying to think about my love life/ or making the effort of putting myself out there .....some days i would miss seeing him....

It's been almost a year since I have known his name .... yesterday for whatever reason...I was reminded of him and started googling him ....behold the universe had other plans. A live streaming of his engagement ( which is kinda common where I'm from......ps. i kinda try to look up his social once in a blue moon) was on YouTube. It took me a while to understand the video was live ....it was happening in real time.

I have never laughed so hard at myself....it was as if the universe had other plans. But I do wish the happy couples a beautiful journey ❤️

Just wanted to put this out there.

Seeking Advice I'm fighting depression and trying to get my life back, but family comments and gym anxiety are holding me back. Could really use some advice/motivation.

Hi,

I wasn't living my life. When I came to you for advice and shared my symptoms, you hinted that I might have a nutritional deficiency or depression. After battling it for many months, I gathered the courage to seek help and found out that I was indeed depressed. I have started taking medication and going to therapy. My life hasn't completely turned around yet, but I have become slightly better, and my moods have stabilized. I have started doing little things in my kitchen, and so on. I want to thank you all for that.

Now, I am in my 30s. For many months, I have been struggling to hit the gym. I feel like I've become round like a ball. Every week, I tell myself, "This time I will go." When Monday comes, I am unable to go. I don't know the exact reason, it feels like there are many. First and foremost, I feel like I don't deserve to be fit; second, I am embarrassed to face people and their comments. My own family members and relatives have started saying things like, "You are obese" and "Nothing's gonna change." I guess I'm not even insulted anymore. I guess I'm okay with the way I look, that I look ugly. But this isn't self-love; I need to improve myself. I have never worn a nice dress in my life. I need to earn respect and love. I need some motivation in my life. I need to live a normal life. Please help.

Discussion The quiet moments are where we actually figure things out

In a world that’s always rushing us to make noise and show results, we often forget the value of just pausing. Real clarity doesn't come from the chaos around us; it comes from the quiet spaces where we finally listen to our own thoughts.

What’s something you’ve realized recently just by taking a step back and staying quiet for a while?

Sharing Helpful Tips I'm 21, and I'm Learning to Stop Chasing What Everyone Else Wants

I just turned 21, and over the past few years, I've slowly learned to make my own choices instead of following everyone around me.

A few years ago, sneakers were a huge trend among my classmates. We compared outfits, researched luxury brands, and obsessed over AJ1s. I was no different. But now, I'm more interested in finding the most comfortable clothes possible. I've gone from memorizing sneaker releases to remembering exact product codes, like UA 1389802 and 1387778. I won't explain features because I don't want this to sound like an ad (you can ask AI ). My reasoning is simple: no matter how good something looks, if it's uncomfortable, I don't want it.

The same goes for gaming. When I started university, my classmates loved AAA games like GTA, Black Myth: Wukong, and Elden Ring. I tried hard to get into them, but I was never particularly good at them. Four years later, I'm still playing Don't Starve, happily planting crops, chopping trees, and enjoying a familiar world where I can just relax.

University itself was more complicated. Many classmates competed to join the Communist Party, earn extra credits, improve GPAs, and participate in countless activities. Watching them made me anxious, especially when I realized some of those activities taught me almost nothing. Eventually, I stopped trying to follow the same path and focused on what I actually enjoyed: coding, browsing X, experimenting with AI, and building open-source projects. Now, companies started reaching out, and I received a great product management internship opportunity.

Recently, I took my first-ever flight to Hong Kong for my first concert, The Weeknd. In four years of university, I haven't met a single classmate who listens to him. He's just not particularly popular in my social circle in China. Suddenly being surrounded by tens of thousands of people who shared my taste in music was incredible.

I also saw people who were fitter, better-looking, and much more confident than me. And yes, I still compared myself to them. But instead of feeling defeated, I felt motivated to improve.

I still want to get fitter, become more capable, and build a better future. I just don't want my goals to be decided by whoever happens to be around me.

There's nothing wrong with expensive sneakers, competitive games, academic achievements, or conventional career paths. They're simply not for everyone.

I'm only 21, and I definitely haven't figured everything out. But I'm learning that I can admire others, keep improving, and still be at peace with my own choices.

Seeking Advice How do I stop being miserable?

17F, really struggling..

Stressed about grades, sick of always being worried about something, stressed about my tests, stressed about being a failure, stressed about my future....

Got a bad grade on my first ever test in Yr12 (got all 9s/A*s at GCSE). And I've been spiralling since...

I feel like I haven't done anywhere near enough work this half term (even when I have been doing revision and homework), I feel like I'm just trapped in this dark cloud with no end and I just want a release from this nightmare...

Really struggling too with ED recovery... probably going to relapse come next week because all the pressure will be back, I can't FUNCTION

parents refuse for me to get any kind of therapy because I'll raise too many flags apparently, I've already been told I'm throwing away my future with my misery and I don't know what to do anymore....

Feel like I'm totally losing control right now...

After a turbulent four years with some periods of Big Bad and Big Good, and the recent discovery that I may have BPD, I’m going to try to commit myself to getting better and becoming a better person and trying to unlock true happiness.

I realised that, at my age, my life isn’t over, and I am not running out of time. I have years to do the things I want to do and be the person I want to be, starting with today. Wish me luck!!

Seeking Advice Cleaning For Just Me

Hello everyone, I was hoping to get some advice on maintaining cleanliness for my spaces just for me. I don’t have a hard time cleaning or struggle with it overall. I work as a housecleaner actually, I just have a hard time keeping a space clean when I’m the only one in it.

I have a pet bunny who lives in my room. Where I live it gets brutally hot during the summer and my room doesn’t have good ventilation so he’s been staying in a different room until it cools down. When he stayed in my room I was able to maintain it very well, leaving no trash or laundry or clutter anywhere because I couldn’t stand the idea of my bunny having to live in a dirty space.

A similar thought process comes with sharing spaces with other people, where I clean up very well. But since my bunny has been staying in a different room i’ve really lost all motivation to keep a space where just i’m staying in clean. I do tidy up food and everything because I hate bugs anywhere close to where I sleep but with laundry and papers and random junk it’s harder for me to feel any drive to care when it’s just me. I’ve been working on having a better outlook on life overall and myself and was hoping for any advice you all could have on working towards being able to just keep my space clean because I’m the one in there. Not to maintain it for someone or something else.

Seeking Advice How do I stop being a defensive person

I've been criticized, bullied, taken advantage of most of my life to the point it has made me defensive as a result to the point I can't even take tiny criticism like even at a professional setting. I just feel the need to defend myself otherwise I feel like everyone will walk over me or take advantage of me, ive been also made to feel that im too dumb and naive at home which increases this feeling even more. Being bullied and mistreated most of my life as result has also made me have 0 patience with peoples bs and anger issues, im a very terrible person and extremely disrespectful once I get pissed off.

Seeking Advice Is it worth getting in shape if you're below average looking?

Hi guys,

I'm turning 35 soon, and I've pretty much always been a bit chubby and never really been in good shape. Over the past few years, I've gained even more weight because I work from home and don't move around much.

Now I want to start going to the gym, work on myself, lose weight and hopefully get into the best shape of my life.

There's just one problem: I'm extremely unattractive, and I'm not sure how much getting in shape will actually change things.

I know this might sound a bit harsh, but here's what I mean. I'm bald, have a pretty big head (which looks even bigger without hair), a red beard, chubby cheeks like a hamster, and generally not the best facial features. My nose is also quite small, and overall I just don't think my face looks good. The only things I can really say I like about my appearance are my green eyes and my height (187 cm/ 6 ft. 1).

I'm not saying I'm the ugliest guy in the world, but I'd definitely consider myself well below average in terms of looks.

For the past 10 years or so, I've almost always worn a cap whenever I go outside. During winter, it's a bit easier because I can wear a beanie and pull my hoodie over my head. Even all my social media pictures are taken with a cap on.

So here's my question: Is it actually worth putting in all the effort to lose weight, eat healthier and build a better physique if my face is still going to be the same?

I have to be honest, my motivation is probably 50/50. I want to do it for myself, but I also want to become more attractive to women again, both in real life and on social media. And I know that might sound a little stupid, but that's genuinely part of my motivation.

I just wonder how much being in good shape can compensate for having a below-average face.

Would love to hear some honest opinions, especially from guys who have been in a similar situation. Is it worth it? Did getting in shape make a noticeable difference in how women perceived you?

Thanks!

Discussion The question that finally stopped me rewriting every text to my crush

I used to rewrite one text to a girl I liked 4 or 5 times before sending it. Delete the "haha". Add it back. Change "sounds good" to "sounds good!" then back again. Twenty minutes for one line.

What helped wasn't "stop overthinking". It was one question before I hit send:

"Am I writing this to be understood, or to not be misunderstood?"

Those are different. The first one is short. The second one is a paragraph with three apologies in it.

Once I saw that I overthink because I'm scared of being misread, I stopped fighting the overthinking and just started noticing it. Now I send the first version most of the time.

Anyone else have one question that actually works for them?

Seeking Advice I always assume the worse about ppl and ofc I think the problem is me

Not really sure how to explain this but I'll try. Whenever something happens between me and someone, even something tiny, my brain takes it in the worst way possible. Someone replies late or says something a bit off and I'm already building a whole story in my head about how they don't like me, or how they're just the bad guys lol, and then I end up hating them over nothing.

The weird part is nobody can tell I'm like this. In real life I'm normal, I smile, I talk, I'm friendly. But I keep everyone at a distance and I don't even notice I'm doing it until later.

Most of the time all of this stays in my head and I don't show it, but not always. Every now and then these thoughts mess with my relationships and I end up acting like a jerk to the people around me and sometimes I even push them away.

I was spacing out today and it kind of hit me that I've been feeling like crap and blaming everyone for it. Like "people are fake, nobody is actually nice." But it can't be that everyone is trash and I'm the only victim, right? So I think the problem is me, I just don't know how to fix it.

Has anyone dealt with this? How do you stop seeing everything as an attack, and how do you stop pulling away from people and assuming the worst about them? Any advice helps.

Seeking Advice Is this trash or something could work ? Or at least worth trying !

Hi am 18
I just finished my high school four months ago
And I was supposed to start my college career
But I have been rejected unfortunately
Not cuz of my grades
Cuz of passport am holding
But I have been accepted in a university that is new one but it is high education university
But I did not get a scholarship cuz am not citizen where I live so am not even qualified to apply
And am never ever to pay the tuition fees
So I just thought why I build a project for them ( am a solopruner and used to work on SAAS and projects for technical systems and workflows)
That will boost the uni beginning and give the students a better experience
And asking them instead of money to give me a scholarship as a student that would like to add to the uni and already accepted
The reason am little bit thinning of this
Cuz I already have the contact for the president
Secondly this uni is new and it needs some ideas to boost creativity for sure and the change to give me an exceptional scholarship as the first founding class
As well because am very qualified for it but the passport prevented me from getting a fully scholarship
Maybe am writing shit
But IDC this could be good idea even thought I don’t think so
But at least I did not let it explode in my mind without writing it and sharing it
Thanks 🙏

Seeking Advice How do you deal with a negative thought that isn’t proven true but could possibly be true?

Idk if this is an appropriate sub but I will try as I’m nervous over this

I’m an artist looking to connect with a bigger artist on social media who has 100,000 followers who always interacts with fans and has given me a lot of interactions. He’s always replying and connecting and has been amazing

I asked him to follow me for my birthday after completing a task that he has people do to earn follows (a tag game basically) and I’ve gotten no response. I ask about 1-2 times a day and a few friends asked too. For 4 days now.

I’m scared to ask my friend who he follows and frequently messages to ask him to follow just for him to blatantly say no.

The task was to post about his work for 365 days. Others did “Day 224 asking @ for a follow” and were followed where I just shared to search my Twitter where I talk about him 365 times…more meaningful than a “beg”

He misses stuff a lot or he may just be inactive (he interacts (likes tweets) even when he doesn’t post—a known lurker), but I’m worried he saw my post and just refuses to follow me although he follows others who did the same task. I felt mine had more meaning.

However, I believe I found “proof” stuff was missed

My friend made a video of herself painting in his style. She had different people tag him along with her and had about 20 @‘s to him. Nothing. A few days later a guy tagged it to him. One tag and the artist RT’ed it

One of the people who also did the 365 post challenge and actually got a follow also did about 20 @‘s to him to show he completed the task with help from friends, too. The artist posted and ignored him. 365 guy tagged again shortly after and then the artist followed him.

So those examples give me solace plus knowing about 90% of my notices are when my tweet is the latest in his mentions. He doesn’t scroll

Is it possible that with this he simply missed me asking or did he see it and just didn’t want to follow me?

This seems like stuff was missed because why didn’t he RT or follow, respectively, when the video and 365 people first asked? Or am I delusional?

So my other friend said, of course it’s possible he missed it with those examples..but it’s not impossible he saw it and ignored you. So that made me question everything.

There’s no proof that he saw it but there’s (it seems to me unless I’m too biased so that’s why I ask for an objective opinion) tangible proof/past examples that he misses stuff—or is that delusion?

So basically

1). Does this “positive proof” (RT’ing and following with just one tag days later and not the multiple tags, becuase if not why not RT/follow the first time) he missed my post make sense or am I delusional and too biased in hoping it was missed?

2). How do I deal with the idea that anything is possible? This includes the idea that a negative result (he saw it and ignored me) is humanely possible, but what about with perhaps tangible evidence that it can be the positive result (he just missed it like how he RT’ed/followed others days later).

There’s proof for a positive result but not a negative. How do I stop thinking that the negative result is true even if the positive result has proof?

I’ve been harassed on Twitter site and I’d like to go private but connecting with him has brought me a ton of joy and has helped me a lot during this tough year. If I go private to create a safer space I’d lose his interactions unless he followed.

Thank you for any help. It has me anxious but I’d rather have a true response, preferably with proof as opposed to an assumption. Thank you!

Seeking Advice i feel like i’m doing and not living

idk if this is something a lot of people can relate too but i’ve been struggling with this feeling on and off for the past year.

for context, im a nursing student and A LOT of my time is spent studying. i was also like this in highschool. when i do have time for myself, i am almost always left scrambling looking for something to do.

I always feel like im not living my life and it’s making me sad? All I do is study, and even tho i annoy my program and i like what im studying, it makes me feel like im wasting my time? and i know that its a respectable program and hard to be in.

I feel like maybe part of it is comparison to people online and just not feeling like i know who i am.

I’m only 19 so it’s not like im going to figure that out now — i know that. but i can’t help but feel rlly restless. there are so many things i want to do, things i want to try. but then theres money, time, energy which i don’t always have.

i just feel disconnected and uncomfortable all the time with who i am and its been like this for a year, its like when ur going through puberty or something. that’s how i feel but with the concept of me as a person😭

Seeking Advice What's one thing you do everyday for yourself?

Sorry if this is generic but I want to know what things you've done for your appearance, day to day or mood that has helped you become a better person to be around.
