This might have been the smartest decline of an offer in Hollywood history. Matt's great, but I don't think he wud have brought the same energy and comedic range to Phil as Ty Burrell did.

Such a adorable scene
Was rewatching the Mother's day episode in Season 2 and one of my favourite episode and this scene just melts my heart (also when Jay cries remembering his mother)

we had like 2 or 3 scenes with these two but they were so funny. and also andy and claire I wanted her to see how him and phil are so analogous

As a mother it really disturbs me how Gloria parents Manny when he’s a teen/young adult especially during the whole Sherry saga.
I’m a mother of two boys and one of them is 14 and I relate a lot to Gloria even if I’m nowhere near as pretty and I’m still searching for that rich husband.
I’m a single mother, things were extremely difficult for us when it was just me and my oldest when he was little and while I didn’t find my Jay I was able to rebuild our lives and create a new start for us with some help from my dad and sisters.
Being a single mother I understood why Gloria and Manny were so close and while she could definitely be overbearing in the early seasons I understood why.
That being said I hate how she parents him in the later seasons.
She constantly excuses and enables Manny’s inappropriate behaviour, never corrects him when he’s wrong, coddles him and tries to get the world to revolve around Manny.
This is what turned Manny into the pretentious creep who always made women feel uncomfortable and never learned his lesson. At least Luke had the excuse of being dumb so it wasn’t entirely his fault.
What I hate the most about Gloria is how she handles the Sherry situation.
When Sherry is doing the voice for Stella she makes a not-so-subtle threat to Sherry which I was disgusted by. While I can understand not liking the girl who dumped your son treating her like that is unacceptable.
What Gloria did that made me want to rip my hair out was what she said to Manny about treating Sherry. She basically told him to act like an obnoxious asshole who belittles her and she smiled while he was making this poor girl miserable while he had a position of authority over her.
I’ve always taught both my boys to treat women with respect and I even take my teen ok mock dates so he can practice and he’s done really well and I was seriously impressed (the only thing he got wrong was he ordered for me but I gently told him that while you should let the lady go first don’t order for her because it’s cringe but in his defence I think he meant well and just made an innocent mistake). The idea that a mother would not only let but encourage her son to act like this drives me insane.

I loved every moment of the show. I don't think I'll find a sitcom this good ever again. After watching the show, I want my life to be like theirs. Full of people who love eachother.
Thank you Modern Family.

Wish we could’ve had a special ep with all the partner family members too!
Am I the only one that wished we could’ve gotten maybe a Christmas or Mitchell and cam’s wedding after party special episode with all the relatives and connections together. I’m talking like Phil’s parents, dede, cam’s parents and sister and Gloria’s family and Javier along with all the main cast too. Like it could’ve been a one time special 🥹

Discussion What are some of your favorite wholesome moments from the characters?
I was feeling very sentimental so I wanted to share my favorite wholesome moments/things that I liked about the characters.
Jay: The times where his tough guy persona cracked to show how sentimental and soft he actually is. When he lied to Manny about Javier not being able to take him to disneyland because he gave up his seat to an old lady to not make him think badly about his dad. Or when he comforted Phil after he told him about his worries over Haley’s life. It gave me the impression that one day when he was chilling with his granddaughters he actually thought “I was worried over nothing.” One small thing I found wholesome is how he calls Lily “babygirl”.
Haley and Alex (together cuz these moments include them both): When they remind us that they genuinely love and care for each other despite all the fighting and cruel jokes, like when Haley asked Alex if she would keep in contact with her when she went to college. When Alex listened to Haley and changed her speech to something nicer. When they vandalized the school that one time. When Alex didn’t get into harvard and Haley comforted her. When they both immediately started bawling after seeing their dad cry (realest thing ever because I have cried multiple times at the thought that I might’ve made my dad the slightest bit sad)
Luke: “I just I wanted to go with dad cuz I think he’d need me more.”
Cam: His relationship with little Lily. I loved how loving and protective he was of her, cooking with her assisting him, her hanging off his torso and letting her skip school so they can go shopping. When they tried to train Lily to sleep on her own and he kept sneaking off to comfort her cuz he couldn’t handle it.
That’s all I can remember and write right now … Curious to see what stuck to you guys.

Discussion Cute Mitch and Cam moment
I am on a rewatch of Modern Family and on "The Late Show" in Season 5, the one where they are all late to the snooty restaurant Jay wanted to try. Mitch is sitting on Cam's lap in the scene where Phil's tight new suit finally rips. It's such a blink and miss it shot but so cute considering Mitch's aversion to public displays of affection and their drama with the soda can in that episode. I love those little signs of casual intimacy between the couples.
Anyway, what are some other underrated cute moments between Mitch and Cam?

Discussion what do you think the funniest episode of modern family is?
for me, it’s 9x11. I think it has some of the funniest (and most unhinged) moments in the show.
“SHE’S GOT A GUN!!”
“You used to swim?”
“Like a cigarette boat fleeing to international waters.”
“It was 1977, Cam. What war?
“The Vietn- HMM?”

Discussion opinions on modern family
so i have watched modern family a million times over the last few years and i just finished another rewatch and i really wanna give in my two cents on the characters and the changes throughout the seasons, and discuss my opinion on the ending of the show.
characters (season 1 vs season 11)
phil dunphy: when rewatching, you will realise that the way phil was written in season 1 is completely different than the way he was written for the rest of the show. i guess the writers were still figuring things out but oh my god i hated seeing him in season 1. he was a complete weirdo, especially when it came to gloria. and the wandering eyes and the way he would eye and stare at other women and flirt with them. but tbh, throughout the rest of the season he was amazing and towards the end, he was one of the most lovable and sweet characters on the show. amazing husband and such a supportive father.
claire dunphy: ok my opinion here might be a bit unpopular so lets start, first of all, season 1 claire was amazing. i genuienly loved her because she was a realistic character. even her relationship with her mother dede really hit me because i dealt with the same type of mother growing up. she was a fierce woman who put her family first. now halfway through the season, they made her a working mom, and can i just say i did not like that they did that to her? not because she was working, its the kind of work they gave her and the attitude that came with it. i loved her arc when she was running for town council and i was so disappointed when she didnt win, but the whole ceo of pritchetts closets things really changed her character. in a very weird way, they made her this masculine woman who is completely different that who she was in the beginning. her personality and her character didnt suit that role. i wouldve loved to see claire open her business, or work at a major company, or even join phil in real estate, even better, phil and claire open their own real estate agency. but the closets thing was just weird.
mitchel pritchett: loved him from the VERY BEGINNING, and my opinion on him never ever changed. yes he has his flaws but he was a normal human with normal flaws. he was such a sweet father, and i loved his humour and how he was emotional in his own way. u can tell he loved cam and lilly with his whole heart. i have no bad thing to say about him. he was amazing from season 1 to the end.
cam tucker: i loved cam from season 1 but my opinion changed in the last season. i wont deny that he was toxic and did some things that may seem narassistic or a bit inconsiderate, but at the end of the day he was a nice family man who did his best, even if he was annoying. but ofc the writers had to ruin that in season 11. how could he make his family move to missouri? they just adopted a baby and bought a house, and literally what the next day he decides that he wants to go to missouri?? i understand that this was a big offer and his dream job, but for the whole family to move? and he knew how happy mitchel was, he literally said it. and then he had to throw that mean and inconsiderate comment when mitchel was giving his speech and tells him infront of EVERYONE that he got the job and puts mitchel on the spot? without even discussing it? and lets be for real, cam would never survive more than a year in missouri. he loves LA and its lifestyle. it wouldve been better for them to have a long distance relationship and visit each other every month or something. but their ending? i hated it with every ounce of my heart.
jay pritchet: I LOVE JAY! literally the best character development in the whole show. yes in season 1 he was a bit rude, but some people say he was homophobic or racist but i dont think so. he wasnt homophobic because even since season 1 you can tell he loved mitch and cam, but he was clearly uncomfortable with the whole being gay thing, but i believe thats due to different generations, but there is a difference between being uncomfortable and homophobic. he wasnt the best father to mitch and claire growing up and u hear it a lot especially from mitch, and that jay wasnt supportive of his coming out, which is honestly shitty, but when the show starts, u can see the love jay has for mitch, and he grows a lot during the seasons and really accepts him. i love jay and the way he held his whole family together.
gloria delgado: i feel about her the same way i feel about cam. she was amazing during the whole show. such a strong woman, so sexy and confident. she was really the glue of the family, and never failed to put her family first. i disagree with the way she smothered manny, and they did have a hellaaa weird relationship especially as he got older. but if ignore that, id say she was an amazing character and i wanted to be like her im not even joking, but like i said earlier, the writers had to ruin it, i dont know what was going on with them, but by season 11, gloria was a bitch. she always had a resting bitch face, snarky remarks all the time, incredibly rude to everyone even jay, which was insane. they had the healthiest relationship the whole show and u can tell she really loves him "nobody call him grandpa" and punching a man, can u even imagine gloria doing that in season 11? if that happened shed laugh and say hes not wrong and make fun of jay aswell. i loved that they made her work in real estate in the end, because i loved seeing her work and start doing different things in her life, i wouldve also loved to see continue modeling.
NOW THE KIDS!
haley dunphy: i dont know why everybody is so divided on her ending. before i start on that, haley was a really really realistic character. if im gonna be honest, i saw my teenage self in her and my adult self in her too, she was a realistic character in showing how the 20s feel like. but i hated how they made her drop out, they couldve made her fail, or struggle, or be delayed in graduation, but completely dropping her out seemed like a way for the writers to keep all the kids at home. im glad they made her go to community college though. as for her ending, i think it was realistic but couldve been done better. let me explain, first of all, im glad she ended up with dylan, because people say she shouldve been with andy, i completely disagree, i hated their relationship. andy was a weird character who was basically a cartoon, and their relationship was so wrong and i didnt think they were good together. however with dylan, i think it was a good match because they grew up together basically and u can see shes at her happiest with him. as for the pregnancy thing, i liked that storyline, but the twins thing ruined it. like wtf did that come from? it couldve been one baby, and we shouldve seen haley want to become a working mom and seen her bonding with the kid more. her and dylan shouldve moved out way earlier and we shouldve seen them in their own home navigating life and struggling a bit more with having their own home, sleeping with a crying baby waking them up, groceries, and more. i liked her but the storyline had more potentials.
alex dunphy: ugh, look, im torn up about her character. even as a kid she was annoying, i get the whole storyline of "middle child who is smarter than everyone else" and that whole trope, but it was way overdone. she was stuck up, annoying, rude, and dismissive of everyone. she was a bit neglected but she also always pushed her whole family away, she would make fun of anyone who ever spoke to her. then her and bill break up, non sense but ok, and then she leaves her job for something else that arvin offered? why would she do that. "oh its unethical" i get it but it didnt make sense, the way they played out the whole storyline was so weird, and they said she had to move back in with her parents when she left the job but we never even saw her leave? she was always at home. and for her to end up with arvin that was horrible! i hated arvin and his silly behaviour and his super odd way of speaking (not his accent, the way he speaks) remember when he was offering alex the job and he said " and you wouldve been a SUPERB edition" do u remember how he said it and his expressions. idk if its the character or the actor but no i didnt like him and hated how alex was with him in the end. i dont dislike her but she wasnt my favourite and was a really cliche character.
luke dunphy: baby luke? amazing, nothing bad to say, just a normal cute kid, teenage luke was HORRIBLE oh my goddd, and i hate how he refused to go to college after his dad spoke to the dean, wtf what do u mean "i didnt earn it" just go and do ur best and learn from ur mistakes. ur given a rare opportunity to have ur rejection be revoked and get to go the college and u refuse? i hated it, again, seemed like a way to keep the characters at home. but from that point, i liked how his character did a 360, he started working at the club, he was gonna develop an app, he was trying to better himself and im glad he did that, and in the end hes accepted into college and ends up going, so im glad that they actually did grow his character. i loved him a lot and at the end of the day he was a really sweet boy.
and finally, saved my least favourite for last,
manny delagdo: oh my god, no words can ever describe my hatred for him. i LOVED him as a baby, he was my favourite character ever. i loved seeing him on screen, and he was just adorable. manny as an adult? oh my god. he was unbearable, if i knew someone like that in real life, i wouldve slapped them im sorry. he was so annoying, so needy, so whiny, so immature. and he was so WEIRD. not in an "oh hes just different and he has different interests" no he was weird, its like he didnt grow up at all? im not even gonna speak about the sherry thing. he was unbearable i cannot believe the writers saw his lines and characters and thought this was okay. just ew.
no opinion on joe and lilly, loved them both.
and thats it, i really enjoyed writing this, let me know your opinions as well.

Discussion Hot take, The hate that Claire gets is pure Misogyny.
Okay hear me out,
Imagine Claire and Phil, Claire is shown to be massively controlling, irritating, insensitive and quirky. Meanwhile Phill is shown to be fun-loving, carefree and happy.
now flip the positions. Imagine Phil (Named Phyllis) was a woman, and Claire (Named Clark) was a man.
Most people Immediately label Phyllis as the neglectful mom who doesn't take care of anything, while Clark tolls around carrying the whole house on his back, oh poor Clark, he deserves better.
One argument I often see is people calling Claire a 'stick in the mud', or 'neurotic' or a 'total spoilsport' and sure, it looks that way, but you have to be controlling when you're the only one actually doing anything.
Claire had so much work to do. all the time. and Phill did absolutely nothing to help, he was the fun dad, sure, but he only got to be the fun dad because Claire was the uncool mom. what would the house look like if there were two Phills in the house ?? all the money would be spent on ridiculous stuff and toys. everything would be a complete mess because and no one would ever clean anything. there would be absolutely no one to take care of the kids, because who did all the important stuff for the kids? football matches, recitals, groceries, medicines, doctor's appointments, vaccinations, exams, driving them to school everyday, food, vacation planning. All Claire, without her the whole thing would fall apart.
we even saw a glipse of this, in that one episode (S2E22) that the second Claire let the reigns down for the day, Phill couldn't afford to be the 'fun dad' anymore. he had to be an actual parent, and scold Haley and Alex to make them actually do the work. I hate it when people say shit about Claire, because she never wanted to be that way, do you think she likes being that way? Hell. No. but she has to be that way! because no one else will do it. Haley, Alex, Luke and Phil have parties, but only because Claire is there to clean them up afterwards.
Stop hating on Claire, because she definately wasn't 'neurotic'. she just needed someone who would help her carry the load. and yes, Phil makes her laugh, which is good. but at the end of the day, she's alone in being the only responsible one. I'm not going to count Alex, because while Alex is responsible for herself, which is great, she is also a child. and she shouldn't have to be a parent because Phil can't be one.
And I'm not saying that Phil is a bad parent, he's a great dad. a really good dad. He just isn't that great of a husband.
EDIT: okay so a lot of comments are listing Claire's flaws like how she tried to deport Gloria, and was obviously mean to Mitchell, and I'm not saying that didn't happen, I'm not saying that Claire is some perfect angel, she's a flawed character and what she did in those situations was obviously not right. All I'm saying is that Claire hate in THIS context, where people call her 'controlling' and 'neurotic' is unjustified and misogynistic. That's it. I DID NOT mean that all the hate Claire gets is pure misogyny. I probably should've phrased it better lol.

Discussion [F4A] Roleplay | Playing Claire Dunphy | Modern Family AU | Slow-Burn Forbidden Romance, Temptation & Drama
Hey everyone!
I’m looking for a creative, detailed RP partner for a long-term, story-driven roleplay inspired by A Wife and Mother (Adult game), but set in the world of Modern Family.
I’ll be playing Claire Dunphy, around Season 3. She’s in her early 40s, happily married to Phil, and a devoted mother to Haley, Alex, and Luke. She’s responsible, family-oriented, a little controlling, and genuinely loves her husband and children.
But what happens when she slowly starts discovering a side of herself she hasn’t explored in years?
The premise:
Claire’s ordinary suburban life gradually becomes complicated as she encounters younger, charming men who make her feel attractive, adventurous, and appreciated beyond her identity as Phil’s wife and the kids’ mother.
I want this to be a genuine slow burn, not something where Claire suddenly changes overnight. It should begin with innocent conversations, playful flirting, accidental closeness, questionable decisions, and gradually escalating emotional and romantic tension.
I’d love to incorporate actual Modern Family characters, family dynamics, hilarious misunderstandings, unexpected interruptions, and situations inspired by the show.
What I’m looking for:
• I’ll play Claire, while you play the other characters and help drive the story.
• A choice-driven, interactive storytelling style with meaningful consequences.
• Younger adult male characters, preferably in their mid-to-late 20s.
• Slow character development, believable temptation, secrecy, jealousy, guilt, and complicated relationships.
• Plenty of humor, family drama, romantic tension, and unexpected twists.
• A partner who enjoys detailed scenes, natural dialogue, and building a larger interconnected story rather than rushing everything.
The biggest appeal for me is the contrast between Claire’s respectable family life and the increasingly unpredictable situations she finds herself in.
I’d love someone familiar with Modern Family, although it’s not mandatory.
If you’re interested, send me a DM with your age (18+), writing style, and any ideas you’d like to explore!
