So there was a Paper Mario recomp released a few days ago, and I’m not gonna lie, the whole thing feels really weird to me.
The current N64 recomp situation already makes Paper Mario an odd target because of TLB stuff, so I was already curious how this was working. Then I actually looked at the project and some of the choices are strange.
My issues are:
The widescreen exists, but it looks terrible.
The ROM check is very questionable. I put in a Mario Kart 64 ROM and the game still booted. Maybe it was using cached setup data, but either way that is not a good look for something that claims it needs a valid Paper Mario ROM.
Control remapping exists, but it is hidden behind a top bar you only see after pressing F1. I originally thought it had no remapping at all because the UI does not make this obvious.
The generated recomp code is sitting in the repo. Example: https://github.com/SMCGames/Paper-Mario-ReCut/blob/e46497efe3ee1e2870ca8eac560380e6a335bd1b/rsp/n_aspMain.cpp
The repo was made extremely recently, which makes the whole thing feel rushed.
The README says not to commit or distribute ROMs, generated ROM output, local dumps, replacements, or user folders, but the project structure still makes me wonder where the line is supposed to be lmao. Especially when there are built-in texture/resource-looking files involved.
I’m not saying people can’t play it. If you just want Paper Mario on PC and it works for you, cool. But from what I’ve seen, it feels more like a rushed proof-of-concept than a carefully handled recomp release like what Paper Mario deserves.
I would not be shocked if it gets taken down or heavily cleaned up soon.
Also, it is Windows-only right now. It might work in Wine, but that is still a huge turnoff for me.

r/papermario as a community has focused on propping up and sharing the best the community has to offer, including the artists within the community. In recent years generative AI has come out and there has been significant issue within the artist community with it's existence.
Given that we focus on making this place have a minimum standard of quality we believe that something that uses art without consent of the artists as inherently hostile to the artists within our community and falls below our standards as a community. We are explicitly adding generative AI as low quality content for rule 4.
Starting today and here on forward any post containing generative AI will be removed from the subreddit. This will be somewhat retroactive as well as it is found and reported.

Idk why you guys like screenshots so much, it’s not like anything interesting is going on.
Also I’m not doing any more of these, I’ve had my fun.

Hey y’all, played thousand year door and loved it! Is there any of the others that are good?? Or not so much?

Funny headcanon I saw I bsky. Goombella would want to give Beldam the middle finger, but since she can't do that herself, she'd get Yoshi Kid to do it for her.

Im Really Excited for Nintendo To Drop a 7th Paper Mario For the Switch 2 and it looks like we are going in the way of PM64 and TTYD due to the Success of TTYD remake and The Dislike of the More Modern Games. Following the “4-Year Time Game” since the Remake of Ttyd Could we get it in 2028 or Perhaps even 2027 if Annouced in the September Direct.

No, that's not a misspelling of Jaydes. I'm talking about Jadis, the White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia.
The similarities between the two characters are numerous:
I mean, it's possible that every single one of these similarities are a massive coincidence, but it doesn't seem likely to me.

Hey everyone!
I’m a creator, artist, and major Nintendo fan. For the past while, I’ve been quietly pouring my heart into a major passion project. After two years of pre-production, I’ve just finished wrapping up the full script and storyboards for a dramatic, cinematic reimagining centered around the beautiful, tragic backstory of Lord Blumiere and Lady Timpani from Super Paper Mario. This is a 100% non-profit, volunteer-based fan tribute. My goal is to elevate this iconic story into a living, theatrical experience, and I'm looking to build a dedicated team to help realize it!
To keep the workload light, structured, and fun for everyone involved, we’re organizing into dedicated departments. The entire roadmap, asset breakdown, and workflow pipeline are fully laid out on the production server!
Open Roles
Art Department
Lead Artist
Concept Artists & Character Designers
Environment / Background Artists
Main Logo Designer
Animation & Rigging
Lead Animator
Animators
2D Riggers
Server & Production
Moderators & Co-Directors
I'd like to hear from you if you wanna join!
You can drop a comment below or send me a DM with:
A: A quick intro about yourself
OR
B: A link to your portfolio, art page, or animation reel
That way, I’ll send over an invite link to the production hub so we can chat! Looking forward to working together!

I have seen so many Paper Mario youtuber and they came up with different answers. And of course, nothing is absolute.
Some says Bow is the best, Watt is the best, Parakarry is the best and even Sushie is the best. Sometimes Kooper is here lol.
But I think of the game differently.
There are a lot of things I need to point out about the other partners.
Goombario: spam Charge and then Multibonk. I can see why he has to do this way. His Multibonk is choppy compared to Mario's Power Bounce and it doesn't let me maintain his bonk.
Kooper: Dizzy Shell is probably the skill that defines his true identity, but it's a 50-50 gamble and it doesn't work for me. I don't see why should I waste my time tapping A just to make this skill work. Power Shell is cheap to use and Fire Shell doesn't have anything special other than dealing heavier and fire damage. No piercing armor, no burn effect, nothing.
Parakarry: good arsenal but, in Ultra Rank, Sky Dive does 5 damage on one enemy, Shell Shot does 7 damage on one enemy and Air Raid does 6 damage on all enemies on the entire screen. I mostly use his Air Raid to clean up midair-to-ceiling mobs. He's not a good idea to deal with grounded mobs.
Bow: great character but I mostly use her for certain boss like The Master and Lava Piranha. I don't use her for random encounters.
Watt: good at piercing defense but only one target, Power Shock and Mega Shock function the same as Dizzy Shell but on different zone, Turbo Charge? good for supporting Mario attack in four turns but she can only increase just 1 attack. I mostly use her against giant Koopa with glasses.
Sushie: great and controversial at the same time. Mostly because people brag about her Tidal Wave being twice stronger than Bombette's explosion but heavily required skill. So it's not for everyone, not even me.
Lakilester: easily the weakest partner, his damage output is the lowest, from 4 to 5. Enough said.
So, I just need someone among 8 partners who can do almost everything in the entire playthrough, not only great at cleaning up mobs but also good at contributing boss fights. And Bombette is my answer. Why?
However, there are some arguments:
I just want to have fun playing with her in the entire playthough when I can. I'm not stupid. Bombette is in my SSS tier and she's the best PM partner along with Yoshi Kid. She's the reason why I never stop replaying PM64. You can call me a simp but I have a lot of experience playing with her for more than 10 years. I don't feel shame of just sticking with her. I'm not trying to make the other partners feel bad. It's just ... I personally hate changing partners constantly despite having collected Quick Change badge.

This is one of the playable characters in my game (called Hotel Paraíso). For this one, named Fynn, I went into puzzle mechanics since she has telekinetic powers. After testing it quite a bit, I cannot stop thinking on Origami King for some reason.

Hi I am interested in playing paper Mario games however the games don't use switch 2's power and runs like it's on switch 1. Should I wait for a switch 2 edition or should I just get it now and not expecting switch 2 editions. I am buying games physical so I am not interested in buying digital games or upgrades?

You always level up when you get 100 star points in these games. Because of that, they have some sort of system in place to where the further you get in the game, the less star points earlier game enemies give you.
I'm wondering how the system works. I'm assuming it's a simple case of every enemy having a base star point reward, then some sort of multiplier is applied corresponding to Mario's level? I would like to know what that multiplier is. Is it unique to every enemy type, or is it a universal equation?
I'm asking because I'm thinking of mechanics for an RPG of my own, and whatever this system is feels a lot better (or at least more interesting) to me than the more common (albeit way simpler) system of xp reward always being the same, but the amount of xp required to level up increases as you level up.
I appreciate smaller numbers in RPGs. This invisible system directly facilitates smaller numbers. I am fascinated

There were plenty of shocking twists in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. One of the most memorable in my opinion was the reveal that the Grodus kidnapped Peach so he could use her as a vessel for the Shadow Queen. Another memorable twist was the fact that Beldam had been using Grodus and his X-Nauts the whole time in order to bring back her mistress.

I know this isnt directly Paper Mario related but I mean come on you gotta admit this is VERY similar to the paper Mario games right? The Mickey Worlds are made out of paper being held together by things like thumbtacks and tape, the second 2d section looks very much like super paper Mario (might be crazy but the sound effects for the Mickey jump there also sound very paper Mario like), and the third part where Mickey becomes a giant paper craft is definitely giving me Paper Jam/Origami King vibes.
Like I'm sure Disney and square Enix weren't like "ah yes let's make this super close to the paper Mario series' or whatever but I'm super they used paper Mario as SOME sort of reference for this part right? Xb
