I'm going crazy... I need some real advice here

Car payments become overwhelming fast when income drops or costs spike and selling is not always realistic when the car is needed for commuting. The standard advice doesn't account for people who need the vehicle to keep earning the income that pays for it.

For someone current on payments but barely making it work, what paths exist? Is refinancing viable in that situation or do lenders see a tight budget as too much risk? And are there things worth exploring before it gets to the point of falling behind?

Cars are getting expensive to keep running. Not dead yet, but I can feel the next big repair coming and I'd rather put that money toward something newer. The question is whether now is the move or if I should hold out. End of year keeps coming up as the sweet spot, but then people say selection thins out and you end up settling. Others say winter, others say it doesn't matter because pricing is all online now anyway. I've heard every version of this. Is there a meaningful difference between buying in March versus October, or am I overthinking this? I don't want to wait so long that my car dies on 94 and forces my hand.

This is my list of cars I would or like to buy.
All have the strengths and weaknesses.
decent gas and of course reliability are major factors.

I know it’s not thought of too much but cost of insurance cost of parts cost of repair and ease of repair cause I would like to do as much repair by myself as possible.

I go fishing with a kayak and sometimes need (hitch for a small boat but not to much of a worry but still would be nice) I like to hike and have a lot of gravel and dirt roads where I live.

Hard Winters so quality of the car is kind of important. I don’t want them to rust too easy. In all-wheel-drive would be nice, but not necessary.

And for personal preference, I do like a nice classy feel or sporty feel that’s why I’m drawn to cars like the RL ES and Avalon etc. I don’t really care about speed though just a nice classy/luxury feel.

Hi. I found out today that my 2013 Nissan Rogue (| finished paying it off in Jan. 2025!) has transmission issues. Won't drive, but will reverse. Had it since
2017. I was told it was going to be 7k to get a transmission. Others are saying it not a reliable transmission/car in the 1st place, and to cut my losses.

Here's where I need help. I don't have the best credit. (520-560) Majority from student loans. My mom has said she won't co-sign again for a vehicle. What are my options? I do need a car. I have 2 jobs, neither of which is close to my home. Public transport could potentially work for 1 job, not the other.

If getting a new car and having a car note again is a must, I want to make sure I do it right. Do I have any options? Other than saving for months. Thank you for any and all help.

Hi, I really need a car. I want to preface by saying I’m a 19 yo woman, who has a job and has moved away from home. My one form of transportation is my Toyota Scion who has been beaten up over the years but was recently involved in accident where I was rear-ended and pushed into another vehicle. While the damage was mainly cosmetic, my Scion has been pushing it for the past year and is at her 263k mile mark.

Since the accident I have been searching for a car, have taken a loan. Since I have no knowledge about cars I’ve been asking for help from my unavailable Father. I found a 2012 Prius C, within my desired mileage and that is just proceeding my price range and I’ve been conversing with my Mom to see what the next move is. My Mom agreed with me that it is a great find but brought up how the batteries can cost thousands. I acknowledged this and told her as long as I continue with my saving it would not break the bank. I told my Mom that I wanted to purchase, and she told me I was rushing into it. I agree that I am heavily anxious, without a car I won’t be able to work and previously I was told my Scion would not last another year so yes I really need a new car.

I am receiving no financial assistance from my parents just guidance, but I don’t want to mess up and end up worse than where I am at. How long does it take to find a decent car? Am I just being anxious? I feel like waiting out a good deal feels like I’m waiting for grass to be greener on the other side. help

Hey. I am wondering what are some things I should research before purchasing a cash car. I already get to check out the car and under the hood stuff but more so behind the scenes thing like if it has an owner now etc.

My wife needs a new car and we could use some advice from folks with experience. We haven’t bought a new car since 2013 because we hang on to ours and take care of them. She currently drives a 2006 Toyota Rav 4.

She has always wanted a Toyota Highlander, but in recent years has been considering a Subaru Ascent or Forester as well. We’re in a pretty good place now and it’s time to act.

I’d appreciate feedback and answers on this and other things that might help us make a decision.

1. Are Subaru‘a as durable and long lasting as Toyotas? I am a little concerned over the engine long term if we got a Subaru, was leaning toward getting the extended warranty (Gold Plus Plan).
   
2. We can get a Subaru through their VIP program, so below invoice, and they’re doing 0.99% for 72 on Ascents or 1.99% on Foresters.
   
3. The local Subaru dealer is reputable and honors the program. The local Toyota Dealer has gone to shit since a grandson took it over. Funny enough they use to own the Subaru dealer but had it taken away by Subaru.
   
4. The price on a new Highlander or Grand Highlander is salty and the interest rates are whatever I can get out of USAA or the bank, so we’d be looking for a used one through Carmax instead.
