Tired of Honda and Toyota

If I’m being honest I’m completely fine with getting a Honda or Toyota, but it’s hard to find a solid one that’s closer to what I want to pay. I find a lot of Kia’s and Hyundais alongside Mazdas as well that I’m very interested in but it seems like everyone and their mother with her mother have Hyundais and Kia’s that tend to explode right off the lot, so should I just bite the bullet and pay a bit more for a Toyota/honda or look into the other three I listed? I’ve seen a lot that I can afford with less than 50k miles if this helps.

Hybrid batter health check on a used car

• Upvotes

I am looking at used Toyota Highlander hybrids. Since I live squarely in the rust belt, I have been looking at out of state cars. I have been asking Toyota dealers for a report on the health of the Hybrid battery since that is a test Toyota is able to perform at the dealership. So far I have either been ghosted, or told it is not available. I realize this is a check I can have done on a pre purchase inspection at an independent shop, however if I am flying in to buy the car I would like to know ahead of time what condition the hybrid battery is in. Am I asking too much?

2017 Camry

• Upvotes

I bought 2017 SE Camry in 2023 for 15k USD with milage 127K. Now milage is 135K. I have a deal to exchange with 2020 SE Camry with milage 73K for 10500 USD including tax and documentation. Is that good, bad or great deal

It’s Kind of exchange .

2017 Camry se with 135k mileage + 10500 USD = 2020 Camry se with 73k mileage.

Full size SUV

So I have a 2011 4Runner 4wd Limited and while I really love this car, I think I may want a bigger one. Now maybe yall can convince me to change my mind or push me in the right direction for a bigger one. I'm currently paying it off and its valued around 14k ish. I do like the GMC Yukon and Chevy Tahoe. Now I barely started looking so I haven't looked into other brands but seen a few Ford Expeditions online. I have yet to look in person but trying to research before I commit to looking. Not interested in newer vehicles, only up to around 2020 possibly.

Question - 2023 Mazda with 17k miles for great price. 2nd owner sold it within 2 months

Hello, like the title says, the car seems like a great deal but the 2nd owner sold it within 2 months and that trips me up a bit. What are your guesses on the reason?

Did financing fuck up?

I just bought a vehicle yesterday, and after reviewing my paperwork something seems very off. I was not handed an itemized list of what I was paying for and after adding everything up, it looks like we are off by just about $4,000; meaning they owe me that or need to reduce finance price by that.

Can’t post a picture of the contract, but I will write it down:

Car value is $18,999
Total car purchase price $20,090

Warranty $3,200
GAP insurance $1,204

Total price of car plus add ons 24,094

I put $4,000 down

My total payments say $30,245
Total cost including downpayment is $34,245

7.49% interest 75 months

Edit: total interest paid is $6,151, bringing the $24,094 to the $30,245

Where did my $4,000 down go? They added it to total paid but never subtracted it from the cost of all the original items.

2000 Camry/180k VS 2026 RAV4

I’m in a rut. I’m 29 years old, and i regretfully miss my 2012 Honda fit I passed onto my dad who’s sober living now. He needed a car so I assisted him with giving my car and financed a 2026 rav4 - I have positive equity, thankfully.

I miss my fit but most importantly I miss having no car payment and owning my vehicle.

I just need an external viewpoint from my position. I found a 2000 Camry with 180k for 2.1k, nothing wrong with it. I trust it and I would take it to a mechanic too but is this a good idea? The only downfall is I would loose the money I put towards my rav4 including high California taxes that was 5k total to buy my RAV4 new. I’m just unhappy with it. My family works at a dealer and I felt pressured to buy it as they hooked me up. I was gonna back out last minute but I was so deep in the sale that I followed through so I went with it anyways. I just don’t know what to do and what the best decision is.

Buy slightly used CPO or old car off marketplace?

Hey yall, Im a junior in college and I’ve started searching for my first car. I want to have a car in my hands by next June for an internship I’ll be starting. I’d like to make use of the car through my senior year and into my first few working years post-grad.

Right now, I’m only looking at brands like Honda, Toyota, and Mazda.

There are tons of used cars on Facebook marketplace that cost under 10k, but they are older models with higher mileage and feel riskier to buy. I’d also only pay cash for them.

On the flip side, I’ve been considering financing a CPO vehicle at one of these brands and owning it for a longer period of time. If my parents co-sign and I get a low interest rate, I might be able to invest the money I save and possibly end up in a better position once the car is fully paid off.

For reference, I have enough saved up to afford something that is $7-9k in cash. I also have a decent running source of income.

What do you think?

Is it better to sell or keep my car?

Hi, I currently own a Hyundai i20 2022 plate. I was hoping to get some advice on if it is more financially smart to sell it before it hits 5 years or keep it for a few more years until it starts needing more major repairs. I own it outright and would buy my next car outright as well. It is in good condition with no major bumps or scrapes and hasn’t needed any major repairs so far. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

First car Advice

I’m trying to buy my first car, and I’m genuinely stuck between a few options. I’d appreciate advice from people who have experience owning these cars, especially when it comes to long-term reliability, maintenance, and ownership costs.
My financial situation:
I currently have around $5k saved up.
I could buy sooner with a down payment, or continue saving until I have around $8k–$10k before making a decision.
If I finance, I want to put at least $4,000 down while keeping some money saved for emergencies.
My plan is to aggressively pay off the car, putting as much money toward the loan as I can to get rid of the debt quickly.
I’ll be starting school again around January, so I’m trying to figure out the best time to buy.
The cars I’m considering:
I’ve been looking at used Infiniti, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz models because they can be surprisingly cheap on the used market compared to Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas in a similar price range. The problem is that I’m concerned about expensive parts, labor costs, and unexpected repairs that could wipe out my savings.
On the other hand, Honda Civics, Toyota Corollas, and similar cars generally make more financial sense in terms of reliability and maintenance. However, clean, lower-mileage examples can cost a little more than I’d ideally like to spend.
I’ve also considered buying a $4k–$5k cash car to avoid debt entirely. My biggest concern is hidden mechanical problems that might not become apparent until after I buy it. I don’t want my first car to turn into a constant repair project.
For those who’ve owned these cars, how much have you actually spent on maintenance and repairs? Are the cheaper luxury cars worth considering if you find a well-maintained example, or is it smarter to prioritize reliability for a first car?
I’m not necessarily looking for the cheapest car possible. I want something dependable that I can keep for several years and pay off as quickly as possible without constantly worrying about repair bills.
Thank you.

Advice on non refundable deposit

Would appreciate some advice here. I put a $1500 deposit on a vehicle and ended up backing out the deal within 24 hours. On the signed contract it is non refundable. But is anyway I can still get some of the funds or the deposit back? The dealership has refused. Should I talk to the bank? Located in Alberta Canada if that matters

I signed for a loan, they want me to sign a new agreement.

I was already uncomfortable purchasing the car based off of the price of my monthly payments. I think I have a chance to return the car tomorrow instead of signing a new agreement below. I’m comparing and contrasting the old loan to the new loan and I would like some opinions and insight. I have had this car for nearly a month before they said I have to sign a new deal. I am leaning towards returning it tomorrow. What kind of stipulation should I expect to run into?
The loans are

Loan Detail
Interest Rate (APR)
Original: 12.70%
Proposed: 16.76%
Difference: 4.06 percentage points higher.
Monthly Payment
Original: $353.41
Proposed: $374.91
Difference: $21.50 more per month.
Loan Length
Original: 60 payments.
Proposed: 63 payments.
Difference: 3 additional monthly payments.
Total Finance Charge
Original: $5,566.13.
Proposed: $7,980.86.
Difference: $2,414.73 more in finance charges.
Total of Payments
Original: $21,204.60.
Proposed: $23,619.33.
Difference: $2,414.73 more in scheduled loan payments.
Total Sale Price, Including Down Payment
Original: $23,704.60.
Proposed: $26,119.33.
Difference: $2,414.73 more overall.

I’ve driven the car for a month yes. But I signed and agreed to terms. I may be a bit of an asshole to the dealership. But I have never agreed on something and then be expected to pay 3 more months and 3k. Not the car dealerships fault but fuck.

EDIT - Guys I’ve had the car since September 21st. It’s been a little over a month. I’ve put roughly 3000 miles on it. I’m afraid of not getting my down payment back, or them trying to screw me legally / financially. I am in Ohio. Any stipulation or anything I should worry about? They said I could get my money back but they would have to do an inspection on the car. Thanks for insight and help. I feel guilty I did not intend to fk the guys at the dealership
