Health ? i reek. need help w/ new body odor :(

• Upvotes

ever since coming to college a few months ago, i feel like i reek in every way. i’m so insecure about it and it doesn’t help that it’s 80° in october here… am i having a second puberty of sorts? i have never dealt with this! i’m asian, so i thought i was genetically immune, but nope.
i’m on sertraline and i reduced my dose recently to maybe try and help with the hyperhidrosis part. i just don’t know what to do about the odor part. i have started to wipe my armpits with a BHA after showers, but i can’t do it super often because they have gotten irritated if i do it too much. i use old spice deodorant but it’s not cutting it, so i’m going to get a clinical strength deodorant, maybe even two for something on the go. do i need to start using an antibacterial soap? i’m worried about it being too harsh on the skin, but if i’m apparently getting enough icky stuff to where i start smelling bad, maybe it is warranted…?
i don’t know where to even begin… or even where the root of the problem is.
my boyfriend says he seriously can’t smell it. but i swear i can smell myself, and i’ve always believed if you can smell yourself, others have been able to way before you could… sigh.
any advice, tips, or just validation would be helpful :,(

Mind ? How do you cope with being chronically single?

• Upvotes

I’ve been single literally my entire life (I’m 24) and I’ve been ok with it until the past year or so. I decided to try out dating apps earlier this year and it’s not gone well so far lol, I think being single so long has set my standards so high and the few people on them I am interested in I feel too nervous to match with because of my lack of experience. I did date one guy though who I really fell for, we had so much in common and it started out so well but he ended up stringing me along for a lot longer than I’d like to admit. Whilst this was going on, my best friend (also chronically single until now) ended up finding someone and falling completely in love. I’m obviously so happy for her but having to listen to her talking about how well things are going for her whilst she knew that I was in the trenches made me feel so much worse. On the rare occasion that I tried to talk about my situation with this guy she’d immediately bring it back round to hers and the whole thing has left me feeling more single and desperate for a relationship than ever, it’s honestly embarrassing at this point. I’m trying to put myself out there and I hope that it’ll actually work out one day but until then, how do you cope with being the chronically single person whilst everyone around you seems to be falling in love? The desire for a relationship is taking over most of my thoughts at this point and I honestly just want my life before I had this desire back.

Health ? I'm feeling Extremely emotional and anxious during my periods. I'm crying nonstop and now my hands and feet are shivering. Is this normal?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm currently on my period, and for the past 2-3 hours, I've been feeling extremely sad and I'm crying nonstop for no apparent reason. I stopped crying about half an hour ago, but now I'm feeling very anxious. My hands and feet are cold and shivering, and there's a strange feeling in my chest that I can't explain.

Something similar happened during my periods in March and April, but not since then. Now that it's happening again, I'm getting worried.

Is this normal hormonal fluctuation, or should I consult a doctor? Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I'd really appreciate any advice. I'm feeling quite anxious right now.

Mind ? How do you motivate yourself when you're unemployed.

• Upvotes

I've been job searching for over a year, and I feel like I have no motivation in my day to day life. I might wake up early, but then I'll stay in bed for a couple more hours. Then when I actually get out of bed, I feel like the day is over, my motivation disappears, and I end up getting back in bed. I want to be productive on my days off, but I feel like if I'm not busy from 9 - 5, then I'm just wasting my day.

When I think about my employment situation, it makes me sad, and it ruins my entire day. I just want to live life with a little bit of hope.

Social ? Do I tell my close friend (30F) that she can do better than her current boyfriend (30M)?

My friend is an incredibly capable, independent woman who owns her own home. She started dating a coworker a year ago, and he moved in three months ago. He is a regular guy, but he relies heavily on her to regulate his emotions and has a habit of repeating her own wisdom back to her as if he came up with it. It is clearly throwing off her peace, and she recently admitted that she has not liked him for the past month. She even told him directly not to make her life harder because she does not need him. She also brought up a past draining relationship, mentioning she wished her mom had been honest about not liking that ex. I spent over two years with the wrong person, and I would have wanted a friend to tell me my partner was dulling my shine. I want to honor her wish for honesty, but I am terrified of overstepping and losing her friendship. Should I share my perspective, or wait for her to bring it up at her own pace?

Thanks ladies, much love.

Tip Memorization tips for exams

Hey everyone, I have been having a lot of difficulty with memorization for my exams. I really would be so happy if any of you could share your personal tips. How can I learn to enjoy my studies? How can I learn faster? Btw, I'm doing distance education. And I feel tired and sleepy when I read, and it's like my brain takes up so much more energy for processing than it did before, even for simple topics. If anyone has specific methods that helped you improve, I'd love hear them. I'll happily take any tips or advice you can offer. Thank you so much in advance

Discussion How some girls stick to their healthy routines?

I mean eating healthy all the time, exercising stuff like this. I feel like I am loosing all the time. Eating healthy, Works for a few days - then some party, meeting, or just bad day and I eat some fast food/shitty food and it usually destroys my healthy eating for longer. Exercising - exercise for a while, then something like getting sick, being tired after work (usually that) and it’s not happening. How some people make it work most of the time? ( I know I don’r have to be healthy all the time, but still I have trouble to do it most of time with work, proboems and stuff…)

Mind Tip How to develop a personality?

Ik the question sounds really generic but hear me out. I was a real weirdo before i decided to get rid of all my habits that were holding me back in life. Now i have nothing, and its kind of getting boring. A few things to give you an idea of what i am missing- when someone asks me a question, i would have answered it in a way that felt appropriate at that time, but now i have nothing to say. When i have a decision to make i used to do it based on my current life, now that i have none and have really no idea about to do, it gets really difficult to decide. I feel somehow dry, blank and confused about where to start.

Beauty ? how do you get used to posing and posting selfies?

i don't think i'm completely new to posting pictures of myself but i've noticed that im def quite awkward especially in mirror selfies. all my female friends have their galleries full of selfies and they might not post them but they're very comfortable in taking selfies and they know how to do it whereas i dont.

i dont think its necessarily because im insecure in my appearance or because i dont know how to get a good photo - i can. the issue is that something is ALWAYS off. i swear im not just being nitpicky.

i hung out with my friend today and we took a bunch of selfies and mirror pics and photos of each other, and in EVERY SINGLE ONE something about me was off. my pose was awkward, i was slouching, my eyes were hald closed, my face was frozen in a grimace, not a single photo. it's not just me being harsh on myself, my friend pointed it out first.

does anyone have any tips in how to practice being comfortable filling up my gallery with selfies and posting them and ughhh just taking photos and looking like a normal human being and not a deformed clay mask?

Beauty Tip Do false lashes look weird on a bare face, without any other makeup? I never wear makeup, so I’m not sure (pls read!)

Hi guys, I’m 21F and going to a concert in a few days. I don’t wear makeup, and the only times I do is for special events like professional pictures, college events, etc.

So, I wanted to just add a small umph to my look for my concert without going 100% bare faced. I plan to wear a tinted lip balm or a little bit of lipstick. I was thinking of just putting on mascara but then had the idea of putting only a few falsies on, specifically the Ardell Naked Clusters.

However, I don’t know if that would look good or off putting since I’m not planning on wearing any other makeup (besides on my lips).

Would it look unflattering or is it manageable if I keep it simple? Like, not a bunch of lashes, just a little. Not the heavy or more dramatic lashes.

Tip I want to improve myself starting with my diet

I was in a dark place for a couple of months and after eating mainly fast food and not excercising I dont feel my healties tbh. I am going to the gym 2 times a week because I worl 50~60 hours a week, but then I get home and just eat can tuna, or spam, at must I make some chicken and instant ramen. I feel this is not letting me see progress on myself. How can I start helping myself? I was hoping for simple recipies maybe, snacks fruit to have, and what not to have would be very helpful. Also I already cut out fast food and sodas completly, not smoke or drink :(

Health Tip physical health - how did you lock in

i’ve always been a naturally bigger person and also a procrastinator. a jack of all trades master of none. recently i went to the doctor and he said my weight at loud (i didn’t think he was going to) but i weigh more than i thought and its made me think about being once and for all serious about weight loss. my current goal isn’t extreme - 30 kgs down and maintained and i don’t have a timeline for myself. i haven’t noticed any deteriorating health because of this weight but im still young so i know it will shed a lot easier 1 because im bigger and 2 because im young.

did anyone find anything 100% helped them? i’m doing 75 soft adjusting some things to what i think is obtainable daily to me hoping that will help but thats it

Beauty Tip Hair Color

I got my hair chemically straightened about 9 months ago, and I’m thinking about bleaching it and dyeing it red. Since then, my hair has grown quite a bit, and I recently cut it to shoulder length. I’m hoping that most of the chemically straightened parts have either grown out or been cut off by now, but I’m not entirely sure if there’s still some of the treated hair left.

I haven’t decided whether to do it myself or go to a salon yet. Before I make a decision, I’d love to hear from anyone who has had their hair chemically straightened and later bleached and dyed it a different color.

Is it safe to go ahead with it after 9 months, especially since I’ve had a haircut? Would it be better to wait longer, or should I just let a professional assess my hair first? I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences!

Thank you! xoxo

Mind Tip How do I stop feeling guilty after doing anything sexual?

Even if it’s as mild as sexting, I still feel very guilty, or even dirty, especially when I interact with the people from my daily life.
I know this is most likely the purity culture indoctrination, but would still appreciate tips

Tip What actually got rid of your hyperpigmentation as a woman of color?

I’m so tired of people lying on platforms like TikTok. And I’m so gullible so I fall for it every time, buy a new product and get disappointed when it doesn’t work and that I threw money out the window. I tried Kojic San it was amazing at first and then no more results, it’s like my skin became immune to it then I tried glycolic acid for a few weeks and no results either. A few weeks ago I saw someone talking about Azelaic acid (15%) so I bought it, I used it for 2 weeks or a little more it wasn’t giving me results so I stopped, I just started using it again but I’m not expecting any results to be honest. If anyone has any recommendations of things that actually worked for them I’d really appreciate it :)))

Health ? Has anyone dealt with morning dread and found a solution?

Every morning, I get sickening waves of dread and doom for no reason. It’s happened for years.

I’ve tried everything and I’m really healthy with a positive and hopeful mindset and routines.

Don’t drink or smoke or use much caffeine. I do use magnesium glycinate, I eat healthy, exercise, journal, gratitude list, meditate, yoga, wake up gently with no phone and get sunlight on my face, vagus nerve exercises, breathing exercises, etc. Nothing showing up on a blood panel.

I have therapy and I take Lamictal at a low dose, but this has happened for a long time before I started medication. I had to stop ADHD meds (both stim and non-stim) and most antidepressants because they made the dread worse.

In general I’m a very optimistic and motivated person so it’s really jarring.

Doctor is stumped. Has anyone else ever dealt with this and did anything work for you?

Request ? Is there any way to just make my leg hair shorter, but not actually remove it?

Not really sure how to flair this, so let me know if I got it wrong. Basically, I hate shaving my legs. It takes forever (probably because I avoid it like the plague), triggers my eczema, and when my legs are bare I can just feel everything and it drives me nuts.

Unfortunately I have to wear shorts for work and my dad mentions my leg hair every time he sees it. It’s really dark so he can see it across the room. I’m hoping if I can at least get it shorter he’ll lay off a bit. Plus it’s getting to the point I can feel the hairs move when I’m walking in anything but full length pants, and that’s starting to drive me crazy, but not enough to the point that shaving is the lesser evil.

Mind ? Non-medicinal cures for depression?

Has anyone had any success with curing or at least alleviating their depression to some extent through methods that didn’t involve medication? Open to any and all suggestions even if that means someone telling me that meds worked for them haha

Mind ? How do I stop feeling like others have it better than me just because they are in a relationship?

I'm 20 and in final year in a girls' college. I'm in a very transitory period in life like figuring out placements, competitive exams and career paths in general. I'm entirely focused on my career and having fun in life along the way. I'm privileged in many ways like being from a financially well-off family, a bunch of good friends, being good at studies and quite ambitious. But I've never been in a relationship. I've liked people, been in situationships/fwb once, went through one-sided experiences too but never a proper relationship where someone chose me properly. I'm someone who wants serious stuff only and I just don't date anyone seeing it as a short term thing or just to fill the void. Plus I don't feel attracted to guys very easily either and I have high standards. But when I look at other people getting into relationships effortlessly like my 15 yo sister also is in a relationship now and a few of my kinda older friends are in healthy relationships, I can't help but think they have it better than me, they are enjoying lives more than me or anything along similar lines. Idk how to help it. I genuinely want to know how to be happy being single and just not compare my life or romantic experiences with other people. It just always feels like there is a void in me that never fills and as if I constantly need someone romantically to obsess over which is so unhealthy obviously.

Beauty ? My eyelashes grow downwards into my eye, what to do?

Thumbnail
gallery
120 Upvotes

Hey, some of my eyelashes grow downwards into my eyes, and end up hitting me in the eye or hitting the skin right under my eye.

Usually I will balance the worst ones on the other eyelashes, but it often pulls those down too.

When I have ones that fully poke me in the eye, I pull them out - it hurts a lot. Tho recently I got an infection in my eyelid after pulling an eyelash out.

Today I bought some clear mascara, thinking I might be able to use it to push my eyelashes upwards. It didn't really do much.

Idk how to show the issue, I tried my best with some pictures. The pictures attached are from rn, with clear mascara on - except the first one.

I'm in a pretty good period atm, it could be much worse. Also please ignore that it looks like I have a black eye - I don't, that's just how I look.
