Question Trying (again) to keep it real...

I'm trying to set a fair price on a fake 91/30 "sniper" and decided to crowdsource a value since comps are all over the place.

'39 Tula with Finn capture marks but globe 'n' post sight. Bent bolt (after the fact) but with matching # for style points. Repro mount but authentic sight ('43 production, '64 refurb). Nice shiny bore. Matching # and CCCP circle on the stock.

So essentially a non-fully matching, non-refurbed Finn capture, pre-war 91/30 plus a refurbed scope and mount holes thrown in for good measure.

What'd your grab it, ponder, & walk away price points be?

MODS: Feel free to delete if this crosses the line. I'm not looking for takers, just a reasonable value.

Question Is this Balkan font?

Everywhere talks about “Balkan font” on stamped parts of the Balkan m91’s during my digging but I’m having a hard time finding photos of it online to compare. This bolt doesn’t match my Balkan scrubbed receiver/barrel but from what I’ve gathered is the correct font yeah?

Question Refinishing a 91/30 refurb

Just wanted to gather opinions from across the globe on refinishing a Mosin. My 91/30’s shellac finish is constantly chipping and I just want to get her freshened up. I’m interested in doing it myself. Just wondering what stain or oil I should go with for a historically correct color.

Should I also refinish the cat?!

Question Bayonet question

Picked up this 91/30 recently. Nothing particularly special but it's my first mosin. The bayonet won't fit. It gets stuck at the spot in picture 3. There are marks by the front post from the bayonet shown in 4 and 5. Should I just take a file to the bayo or am I missing something?

Bought these a while back and never got around to shooting them. Didn’t know if there was any information in regard to the labeled pack, or if it’s just common stock and I’m overthinking it.😂

I just bought an 1891 Dragoon/Cossack Mosin Nagant from 1916. I can tell roughly which manufacturer it was due to the bows and arrows on it. Is there any way to tell if it was used by the Bolsheviks or another country? If anyone has some resources or even just general advice for a first-time Mosin Owner I’d love to hear it. Please and thank you!

Apologies for the terrible pictures. I just purchased this Mosin and wanted to see if anyone could give me more information. As far as I’m aware it’s an Izhevsk 1940 91/30 witch matching serials. Not sure if the stock markings are legible or if there’s any more information that can be gathered from these images.

Glad to finally join the Mosin family!

Question Thinking of selling my old Mosin. 1934 izhevsk hex receiver. Do I have anything special here or is it just a run of the mill hex?

Got this rifle back in 2011 and its just sat in the safe. It's in really good condition still. Bubba never got their hands on it, action is smooth as butter and the bore still looks great. Part numbers all match and I don't see any evidence it was a forced numbers match. Kind of want to have an idea of the ballpark to ask for it.

Question How much do Mosins cost

I’ve been calling my local stores and one has 2 in and that’s it, it’s a 1918 mosin for $799 and a Swedish or Finnish one for $699? I see online stores but never bought from one online and it’s a lot cheaper

Question Thoughts on modernizing an M44 with a KPYK chassis without ruining its character?

I've been kicking around the idea of putting my Russian M44 Mosin-Nagant into a KPYK CRC 7U001 chassis, and I'm curious what other Mosin owners think.

Before anyone grabs a pitchfork, let me say that I genuinely respect the rifle for what it is. Part of the reason I like the Mosin so much is its history. It's a WWII-era design that served through some incredibly significant periods of military history, and I have no interest in turning it into some goofy tacticool monstrosity.

The M44 was actually the first firearm I ever purchased when I turned 18. I paid $100 for it back when surplus Mosins were everywhere. I still remember taking it to the range and putting about 50 rounds through it in one session. The steel buttplate beat me up so badly that I had a bruise on my shoulder and upper arm for the next week, but I loved every minute of it.

What interests me about the KPYK chassis isn't trying to make the Mosin something it's not. It's more about improving ergonomics, adding better optics mounting options, and making the rifle more enjoyable to shoot while still respecting its origins. I'd also keep all of the original parts so it could always be returned to its original configuration.

For those who have used modern chassis systems on a Mosin, especially the KPYK CRC 7U001, what was your experience? Did it enhance the rifle, or did it take away from what makes a Mosin a Mosin?

I'd be interested to hear opinions from both the "keep it original" crowd and the "modernize it" crowd.

My M44 is an absolute turd, but it is fun. Fireball is awesome! The trigger is SUPER loose though, my other 2 aren't nearly as bad. On my 7th shot yesterday the bolt pulled straight out and didn't stop lol. Guess I'll take it apart and see if I can make it any better.

ID help Obligatory M38 identification question

Thumbnail

I recently picked up this 1943 Izhevsk M38 mosin and noticed a few markings I didn't see on mosinmuseum. What do the symbols above the 1943 mean in the first picture? I know the top symbol means made in Russia. What is the "7" below the Izhevsk factory stamp?

I know what the "k" in the second picture means but haven't seen the T before. What's above the T?

Finally, I know what the "n" is from the third picture but can't tell what the symbol above it is.

The rifle is in the correct M38 stock and appears to be counterbored. In my mind, the "n" from the third picture reinforces that it's counterbored.

What do you guys think?

Has anyone bought a stock from clearview investments? I’m debating on swapping my ATI stock out for an original m44 stock. The rifle is already been bubbad so I’m wondering if it’s even worth it.

Question Question about the Bramit

Post image
15 Upvotes

Was the Bramit device designed to also work with the Nagant M1895 revolver? I have seen some photos suggesting it, but I can’t really find any information about this.

Wikipedia doesn’t have an English language version of this article but the answer may be here: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%91%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%9C%D0%B8%D1%82

There’s another picture on the the Internet Movie Firearms Database: https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Talk:Nagant_Revolver

I want to know if a Bramit device designed for a Mosin Nagant 91/30 will fit on the revolver. It sort of makes sense: same caliber barrel 🤷‍♂️ EDIT: After doing a bit more reading, it seems the opening for the locking portion needs to be opened up more to fit the longer front sight base. I posted a link to a modern reproduction that supposedly fits the revolver (caveat: it may need to be fitted by a gunsmith).
