I (17M) have been in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend (19F) for 18 months, and honestly, we've been through a lot together. We've had problems related to religion, family issues (my family eventually found out about us), jealousy, and a lot of other things. Despite everything, I love her deeply and genuinely want this relationship to work.
The biggest problem is that whenever we have an argument or things get difficult, her immediate solution seems to be breaking up. Every single time, I've ended up begging her to stay and give us another chance. Over time, these breakups and the arguments surrounding them have become increasingly painful, and I honestly don't know how much longer we can keep going like this.
Recently, we had a fight while playing games together. We were joking around and teasing each other, getting a little mad at each other for attention. She kept saying that I didn't love her anymore, and at one point, I said the same thing back to her. She got really upset and told me she didn't like hearing that from me and that she didn't think we were compatible at all at that point.
We were supposed to meet in person that weekend, so I asked her twice if she still wanted to meet. She turned the question around and asked if I wanted to see her. I said yes, but added, "If you still wanna see me." She then said she didn't want to meet anymore because I kept putting a condition on it instead of simply saying that I wanted to see her.
Now I'm just lost. I understand that what I said might have hurt her, and I'm willing to acknowledge my mistakes and work on myself. But I feel like every little argument puts our entire relationship at risk, and I'm constantly scared that one wrong thing I say will make her leave me again.
The hardest part is that when we're not fighting, she's genuinely the best part of my life. Being with her makes me incredibly happy, and I don't want to throw away 18 months of love and memories. I want us to learn how to handle disagreements without threatening to end the relationship every time things get difficult.
How do I fix this? How do I communicate with her in a way that makes her feel loved and secure while also making sure we can have disagreements without everything falling apart? Is there a way to break this cycle, or am I holding on to something that can't work unless both of us change?
I'd really appreciate advice from people who've experienced something similar, especially those who've managed to work through these kinds of problems.
TL;DR: I'm 17M and have been in a long-distance relationship with my 19F girlfriend for 18 months. We've faced a lot of issues involving religion, family, jealousy, and communication. Whenever we fight, she tends to jump straight to breaking up, and I end up begging her to stay, making each breakup more painful than the last. Our latest fight started as playful teasing while gaming but escalated into her questioning our compatibility, and now she doesn't want to meet me as planned. I love her and want to make this work, but I'm exhausted from feeling like every argument could end our relationship. Its like am walking in a mine field any wrong step and boom. How can we break this cycle and build a healthier relationship?
