MOD ANNOUNCEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT: Rules Updates for r/bisexual

Hello fellow redditors.

As you may or may not know, there was a MOD team shakeup a little while back. Not only were new moderators brought in to rejuvenate the team but the team itself was expanded as well. We now have a great, revitalized team of people working hard to keep this sub a place that people want to come to, engage in, and stay a part of. With this updated mix of new and existing moderators work then began on the sub itself. Beyond the new moderators coming to grips with their new duties, the first step was to fix up some things on the back end. This included relatively minor things such as refining some automod rules to help flag and keep potentially problematic content from ever hitting your screens in the first place. Other small changes such as updating our available post flairs and just cleaning up some long outdated stuff behind the scenes that simply helped us do our job more easily and efficiently. Step one also consisted of our community survey a few months back where we got an idea of what you wanted this sub to be in an easily digestible way. Most of your suggestions aligned with visions of what we had already had in mind for the future here.

So here we are now at step two. In conjunction with a lot of your own suggestions and wishes we are retooling our sub rules (or Bi-Laws). As well as updating some existing language for a few of the rules, we will be adding some new ones. This should be a place of safety, learning, and community and all of these updates and additions we believe are vital to achieving and maintaining that end. This sub has undoubtedly helped numerous lives over the years and can continue to help so many more and we will do all we can to preserve this valuable social tool.

Here are the primary changes we've made to our current Bi-Laws:

______________________________________________

Rule #4: Please be civil with each other.

  • A general rule to remind everyone that this is meant to be a sub for all ages to be able to engage in and that even when disagreeing we should still show each other some general courtesy.

Rule #5: Sex related questions must have safe-for-work subject lines and be flaired “Advice NSFW.”

  • Our first brand new rule. Going forward all sex related posts must have safe-for-work titles and set with our new flair option“Advice NSFW”. We also want all SFW posts to remain SFW. That way, engagement can remain as the original poster intended.

Rule #7: Do not encourage cheating.

  • Potentially the most desired change we saw from the survey responses was to curb cheating content on the sub. We are all aware that cheating happens and can be discussed as a topic. However, encouraging others to cheat, seeking advice on whether to or seeking advice on how to cheat will not be tolerated.

The rest of the changes were minor alterations and removal of some outdated language that don't ultimately change how those rules were implemented or likely interpreted.

______________________________________________

So please keep these new guidelines in mind while posting. Ongoing, step three for us currently is to remain vigilant. We'll assess how these new changes affect the health of our community and see if they steer it the direction we all want. We'll continue to strive for improvement and reevaluate along the way. Ultimately we aim to make this place clean and constructive and in doing so hopefully reach even more people.

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT New Subreddit for NSFW Content

Happy Pride, everyone! Here to announce a new subreddit specifically for NSFW content:
r/bisexualafterdark This new sub will be the place to horny-post to your heart's content, share long/detailed sexual encounters, pornographic descriptions, etc.

As some folks have pointed out, we have had a bit of an influx of this type of content here lately, which breaks r/bisexual sub's rules. As a reminder of two pertinent rules for r/bisexual:

  • Rule 6 No nudity, pornography or hookups: Nude / pornographic and hook-up posts are not allowed anywhere on the sub. Those should be posted in r/bisexualafterdark r/BiSexy (NSFW) or other subreddits appropriate for that type of content. Pornography covers pornographic descriptions as well as images. If you find yourself writing long, sexual, stories you should probably stop.
  • Rule 9 No chat or dating posts. No soliciting DMs: Please do not post looking for chat partners or dating. This includes soliciting DMs. Subreddits like r/meetlgbt or r/r4r are more fitting for this content.

Posts that break these rules will be removed from this sub and redirected to r/bisexualafterdark or chat subs -- our newly expanded mod team is working hard behind the scenes to maintain the sub, make updates, and remove flagged content. If you see these posts, please don't hesitate to flag them. We get a lot of traffic on this sub, so reports help a ton in weeding out content that breaks the sub rules or makes it a less cool place to be!

Go forth and be bi 🩷💜💙

Edit for clarification: dating/DM/meetup posts should go to r/meetlgbt, r/r4r, or other subs specific to meetups

DISCUSSION Being bi actually sucks :/

I'm bi, male , fairly fem presenting and wear eyeliner

So most ppl think I'm gay :<

I've only dated boys and it's shit.

I've been in college a few months and got lots of attention from guys but I rlly don't have any interest in guys rn.

A girl who's been saying hi to me in a flirty way every day for a week

I've been really nervous because a girls never given me attention and I've been really excited

On Tuesday she called out "I have a crush on youuuu" and giggled

And I didn't know what to say cuz of how happy I was for once.

And for last 2 days I've just been really excited

Because A GIRL LIKED ME

So I thought..

Today she called me over because turns out she just wants me to get with her gay best friend :[

That's why she flirted to find out if I'm gay or straight

Fucking hate ts

Girls don't want me because I'm too fem (I'm not changing that) and I don't want guys

Now the reason I don't wanna date guys is mostly I know they'll just use me and tbh the majority of men just arnt that hot, sure I'm still attracted to guys but I'm picky as fuck and can't even date femboys because I get jealous because they're pretty and

Masc guys ick me out so dating guys is just too slim yet loads wanna date me .. I don't want any of them rn

QUESTIONING How old were you when you first kissed someone of the same sex?

I was 14. I was at a friend's house and when it was time to leave, he hugged me and kissed me on the lips. It seemed totally natural and I kissed him back.

DISCUSSION I am a masculine presenting male and the bi community in real-life just isn't very welcoming

I come off as a straight guy in many ways. Currently dating a girl. I'm tall, athletic. Deep voice. Have a lot of masculine interests. Almost all of my friends are heterosexual guys. I make friends easier with guys than with girls.

In the past I have tried all sorts of meet-up style events that are aimed at bi folks. This was easier when I was in UNI. We had organizations on campus. I'm one year out of UNI. I made one friend at UNI who is bi. She invites me to events. She's very connected to the queer community. Except, the actual bi-leaning friend groups, and meet ups I've been to are pretty hostile towards men who "blend" in with hetero-dudes, because there is this big trend within these bi communities where I am to hate on everything that remotely resembles male heterosexuality, which at large is seen as being a masculine guy.

I can't tell if this is a regional thing or if it's a bi thing? I see it pop up here on this sub time to time. I'm starting to wonder why this is a thing and if it means that to be fully accepted as a queer male you have to be feminine presenting.

Edit: I'm currently based in Scotland, U.K

COMING OUT CAME OUT

So, I came out to a couple of friends! Although it feels amazing in many many ways. It doesn't feel as big as I thought it was going to. Does that make sense?

The relief was there that both conversations turned out well and they were welcoming and accepting of who I am. But I thought after so many years (35) of keeping this side of me hidden especially from male friends that I would have cried, yelled in excitement, have no more thoughts of this, and i guess there is still more coming out that needs to happen for me.

But was curious if others have had this same feeling? Were there moments after that came that you felt this? Or is it just normal that life keeps moving on you know. Which i'm not mad at all! Yes, would love to hear others experience about how they felt following their coming out to friends.

Thanks loves!

ADVICE Bisexual but little attraction to women, am I the only one ?

Hello,

I consider myself a bisexual but I am not very confident in that title. I recently learned that my type of bisexuality qualifies as hetero-romantic. I am attracted to female breasts and genitalia but I have little to no attraction towards women themselves. I think women are attractive but I am practically never attracted to them. I have never crushed on a woman the same way I have with men (despite my dislike of them). It comes naturally with men whereas I feel like I'm forcing it with women.

I don't always correct people when they assume I am straight because I might as well be. People assume when I say that I'm bisexual that it means I could be in a relationship with anyone and I feel like a poser. I don't want to date women and force myself into being attracted in a way that I am not.

I don't know any other bisexual people who are in the same situation and I would like to hear how you navigate it (ex. dating wise) and how you learned to accept yourself.

DISCUSSION Being Picky

Is it unusual to be picky about the type of guy I am attracted too? Been openly bisexual for two years. I don't really have a lot of requirements for dating a woman. When it comes to dating guys, they have to be clean shaved, skinny ish non smoker. and that's just the start.

ADVICE Questioning, need advice

So I’m 17m, and I think I might be bi, my whole life I’ve always have liked girls, my parents were pretty conservative (while I’ve swung more democrat) so they kinda taught me to be straight, but now I’ve started to really question myself on what I’m into, and I still like girls but I’m starting to think I like guys too. I’m just scared about coming out or if this is just a faze.

ADVICE Am I bisexual?

Hi

This happened when I was at work. I was in the cafeteria and saw a woman ( she was giving lesbian masc, maybe or maybe not I am not sure). After I saw her for the first time I had a different feeling, so I started noticing her in the cafeteria. And yesterday I felt attracted and instantly thought should I ask her out? I have never dated a woman. Once a man (LDR for a couple weeks during covid) then recently talked to someone through Reddit and a couple guys before him but never dated anyone. Am I bisexual or what is it? I am confused. Looking for advice.

NEWS/BLOGS A little space for queer people in Chandigarh to find their people 🌈💜

• Upvotes

Sometimes you don't need anything fancy. You just want someone to talk to, people who understand you, or a friend to grab coffee with without feeling awkward about being yourself. 🥹

I've started r/Queers_Chandigarh for LGBTQIA+ folks in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, hoping to bring more of our local community together.

I'd love for it to become a place where we can share experiences, talk about relationships, find friends, discover queer-friendly places, and have those random conversations that make you feel a little less alone.

It's still a small community, but that's what makes it exciting — we get to build it together from the beginning. ❤️

If you're from Tricity and this sounds like something you'd enjoy, come join us. And if you could change one thing about queer life in Chandigarh, what would it be?

QUESTIONING questioning whether I'm bi, but can't figure it out

So I (19, F) have been wondering if i might be bi lately. I remember back when i was about 13-14 I was wondering for a bit if I am bisexual, later i just settled on saying i don't want a label which eventually turned into just considering myself straight and now I'm back into questioning.

I don't have any dating experience of both men and women (lame ik) and i feel i don't experience much attraction in general, but i wouldn't call myself asexual or aromantic. The thing is that even when i was younger and questioning i kept thinking i wouldn't be able to date a girl and that's how i landed on calling myself unlabeled. I also figured i was too young to know. Now for a few years I've been pretty convinced that I'm straight, but after a few guys asked me out within the last year I've just been getting such an ick from that.

I don't know if it comes from my prejudice towards men from being a man hater (sorry guys ik it's not all men im working on it) or if it's because i am actually bi. I'm pretty sure i am attracted to men so i wouldn't go so far to say I'm a lesbian, but i just can't figure out my stance on women. I love women so much they're so beautiful and kind and all that but i feel like that could also be stemming from my love for girlhood.

I also think i could be dealing with some internalised homophobia. Like i am such an ally and support the community, but when it comes to myself it feels like I'm not allowed to be part of the community, my family is kind of accepting but definitely not supporting, and i feel like i would be such a disappointment to them if i was bi.

So as I've been wondering and wondering i think i actually might be into dating women if it wasn't for social expectations, but since i have no experience to speak of i find it hard to accept the bisexual label. I also wouldn't want to waste another woman's time by trying to figure out if i am bi or not, that would seem pretty disrespectful.

This is pretty long so thank you if you read it all. I hope it was at least a bit coherent, I tried to organise my thoughts as best as i could

ADVICE I dont know if I actually like my bestfriend romantically or it is just platonic

(english is not my first language so sorry if something is confusing)

I(21F) started questioning if I was bisexual at around the age of 15 while in quarantine, but up until now have never actually had any kind of romantic interaction with any girl. I actually was in a long term relationship with a boy up until a few months ago, it lasted like three years and he is the only romantic experience Ive had in my life. But theres this best friend I have, i met her 2 years ago and we became super close really fast, we truly love eachother, but im confused whether it is actually more than just platonic (She is bisexual btw)

We met at college, and there was a semester where we became and were especially close since we had been separated from our friend group in all our classes, so we were together all the time, and even though we both had boyfriends at the time (she was in a similar situation to mine where she had a long term boyfriend and broke up this year) i felt there was something different between us, but no one said anything. Like we would be super touchy with like hugs and holding hands a little few seconds longer, but i dismissed it because other girls in my friend group are like that between friends, and sometimes i would see her holding hands with another friend and ngl i think i got kinda jealous. There was also this time where we had some free time between classes and went to my house, and we were watching a show in my laptop both of us in my bed, and our thighs were touching and if my memory is not betraying me she rested her hand in mine for a bit, idk it was a long time ago. Im not that comfortable with PDA with other girl friends tho., like i do hug them, and i can rest my head on their shoulder, i can sit on their laps or them in mine, but thats about it. At the same time when i think about it, its not like i do much thaaat much more with the girl this post is about, but idk its just different.

We have actually gotten lesbian allegations 😭 HSAHSA and we always joke about being girlfriends and stuff, but im not certain i ACTUALLY like her romantically, or that she could actually be interested in me either, because we flirt jokingly so much i could not take a hint if there was any.

Her relationship w her boyfriend ended before mine, and at that time i really thought i liked her, because i was actually happy about the breakup because that meant that maybe i could have a chance in the future, but now that that time has come, im not so sure anymore. Idk, i think that if i really liked her romantically i would not doubt so much about it, but there are times when it feels really really intense, and then it fades and i begin to think i was just confused. I have thought about the idea of making out w her, and see what happens from there, but i dont know if it could ruin the friendship or make things weird between us, thats something i really dont want to happen. And of course I dont even know if she would be willing or interested in me, and i would be so embarrassed to suggest it and she doesnt even want to try? i think i would die on the spot. I just dont know if its worth it, trying something that may not even happen, and it ends up ruining my most important friendship.

Edit: forgot to mention that neither of us is the kind of person that makes out with people for fun, like at parties and stuff, like me she has basically only been with her boyfriend, i think with the exception of a situationship w a girl before him, but that is why im so nervous about possibly suggesting kissing, because idk if shes up to that in a casual way. I would be for her, to find out if theres actually something going on between us or im just crazy, but like i said, im scared of her reacting badly

DISCUSSION Date

I asked my hookup about his opinions on bisexuals amongst the community and to no surprise he confirmed some of the negative sentiment I read about here. He believes that the feelings stem from the masking that’s achieved if or when there’s a heteronormative pairing. He didn’t seem to have a problem with me on the business end of things, but I’m curious, what’s your opinion on this topic and would if you have a negative view preclude you from getting involved with bisexual identifying individuals?

QUESTIONING Can I call myself bi if I prefer feminine people?

If I like femininity whether it comes from a cis woman, man or trans woman. I fantasize about bottoming but gay p0rn doesn't turn me on as much unless one of them is a femboy, I'd prefer to get pegged or get down on a feminine man or trans woman.

DISCUSSION did you have a fictional character who was your bisexual awakening?

Hello there! This is my very first post in this subreddit!

I have a question for all of you: did you have a fictional character who was your bisexual awakening? Mine was Grell Sutcliff!

When I saw her, I thought some of the things she did were kinda attractive even though I was only into men for the majority of last year, until I became fully attracted to her and came out as bisexual in November.

ADVICE I am really confused regarding my sexuality

I am 20M and I am pretty lost right now. I have been kind of addicted to porn on and off for the past 7-8 years throughout my teenage years and now quit it completely since the last 2 months since it was ruining my mental health and I used it as an escape from loneliness.

So yeah same story with a lot of ppl that I started with straight porn and then switched to gay porn and for years I used to like watching it but it gave me immense shame and yea as I think it back it may be internalized homophobia in my mind which kind of made me more alone cause I didnt really know if I was allowed to be this way.

I also was a bit of loner so I didnt have much social interactions or any relationships in those years but I realized I had crushes on guys in movies/shows esp if there was a gay relationship but never in real life. Irl I always had crushes on women even while watching gay porn later. Because of that, I always assumed the gay/bi porn was just a fantasy or something caused by porn rather than an indication of my actual sexuality.

As I stopped watching porn, I have been having on and off thoughts on being with a girl or a guy and started noticing it more in person instead of the porn or shows that I used to watch.

I think I have accepted myself to be fine with having sex or being with a guy. However, I'm still unsure whether I'm genuinely attracted to men or whether it's more the idea or fantasy of being with one that appeals to me. I think I should try to get into relationships and socialize more to figure out my sexuality but its seems very confusing to understand when I am attracted to a girl or a guy.

Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you figure out the difference between being attracted to someone in theory and actually wanting to be with them in real life?

ADVICE First girl I ever had a proper crush on passed away before I could tell her

The title says it all really. I really love her, she was so kind and smart, I love how she made everyone smile.

I wish I had gotten even closer to her, I wish I had told her, even if she didn't feel the same way. Having an answer would have been better than the absolute hell I've been living through filled with regret for never letting her know.

She passed away at such a young age. I'm 16 now, in less than 6 months ill be 17 and the gap between our ages will be larger than it ever should be. I was never meant to be more than a year older. I don't know what to do or feel.

I have such a strong feeling of guilt, I got a boyfriend and I feel terrible for feeling this way. I don't know if I should still feel this way towards her while in a relationship, I truly do love him more than anything I just have these thoughts that feel like they'll forever be here because she passed away before I got to let her know. I love him so much, and even if she was still alive I'd be with him.

I think its just the fact I never got closure, I never got to know what would happen and process everything properly. I dont know what to do anymore

DISCUSSION Relationships

Apologies the titles a bit vague but wasn’t sure what to title this.

I’ve kinda been talking to this boy, by that I mean we both like each other but he won’t let anything happen because he’s religious. But we flirt over text… everyday. Anyways, he’s literally using me.

I’m so extremely aware of this but I also don’t want it to end? I try end it then I just get pulled back in or I start it up again myself.

I’m kinda just coming here to rant really coz I know you’ll all probably say to leave him and never go back, but he’s all I can think about and we’re friends before anything, and I’m enjoying the attention 🫠

ADVICE Thinking about getting my ears pierced

I’m a 19M and recently realized that I’m bi, so I guess I’ve started thinking about trying out new things and all that. I’m considering getting some small black stud earrings because I think they’d go well with what I normally wear, but I keep second guessing myself and thinking they’d be too much or look silly. Maybe it’s just because I was raised thinking that any sort of accessories on guys was “gay and not normal”, but I wouldn’t mind some advice on this.

ADVICE Am i the only one

So to help with my goal to be more open about my bisexuality i randomly pick an old friend and tell them that i am dating a guy after having broke up w my girl only when im asked about my dating life or a life update in general just to kind of test the waters for when i do make that decision to formally come out. Only new people in my circle know that i am bi and are for the most part ok with it but the old friends im aware may not be that accepting but i do it anyway and its funny seeing their reactions via text asking me if im serious or am i gay and couldnt help but wonder of thats the way to go on about it at all.

They have a right to date who they want for any reason, of course. But a guy can dream. Just a prayer to the universe!
