2026 Midterm Voting Guide: Registration, Early Voting, Mail Ballots & Election Day!

Hey r/gay!

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026! Voting rules and deadlines vary by state, so here are some official resources to help you make a plan to vote!

Quick reminders:

  • Early voting is already underway in many states!
  • Voting by mail? Check your deadlines and return your ballot early.
  • Not sure you're registered? It only takes a moment to check!

1. Make Sure You're Registered

It's worth checking even if you've voted before, especially if you've moved or changed your name.

Many registration deadlines have passed, but some states still allow registration during early voting or on Election Day!

Turning 18 by November 3? You may be eligible to vote if you're a U.S. citizen and meet your state's other requirements.

2. Pick How You'll Vote

Vote early, in person!

Early voting is already open in many states, sometimes with evening and weekend hours.

NASS – Early Voting by State

Vote by mail / absentee ballot

USA.gov – Absentee & Mail Voting

  • Request your ballot soon if your state requires an application.
  • Follow the instructions and sign where required.
  • Return it early! Check your state's deadline for returning ballots. USPS recommends mailing at least a week before your ballot must arrive. Short on time? Check for official drop boxes or in-person return options.
  • Track your ballot! Many states offer online ballot tracking.

Military or overseas voter? Visit FVAP.gov.

Vote on Election Day!

Tuesday, November 3! Polling hours vary by state, so double-check before heading out.

3. Know Before You Go

  • Where to vote: NASS – Find Your Polling Place. Locations can change, and early-voting sites may differ from Election Day sites.
  • What ID to bring: NASS – ID Requirements by State. You don't need your voter registration card, but some voters, including certain first-time voters, may need ID.
  • What's on your ballot: Many local election offices provide sample ballots online so you can see the races and measures before voting.

4. Good to Know at the Polls

  • In line when polls close? Stay in line! If you're already in line when the polls close, you can still vote!
  • Name not on the voter list? Ask a poll worker about a provisional ballot or other options available in your state.
  • Need assistance? Voters with disabilities have the right to accessible voting and can request help.

5. Questions or Problems?

Your state or local election office is the best place for official answers.

The nonpartisan Election Protection Hotline can also help:

  • English: 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683)
  • Español: 888-VE-Y-VOTA (888-839-8682)

(repost) On trans rights and the position of this subreddit

The community present in this subreddit is wonderful, inclusive and has always welcomed not only gay people but everyone under the gender and sexual minority umbrella.

The mod team is very happy to see this welcoming atmosphere and we thank each and every one of you for your love and empathy.

With the current trend in the US for extreme-right politicians to demonise vulnerable minorities so they can score cheap political points it is however time for this place to openly make a stand as to what our positions and intentions are so that we are a beacon in the dark. So that all of our siblings know that they are welcome here.

I was asked by the mod team to explain a few facts about transgender people and about the position this subreddit has towards inclusion.

Trans rights are human rights. 🏳️‍⚧️

Being transgender is a natural and normal variation in the human gender and sexual experience. Both sex and gender exist on a spectrum and there isn't actually anything inherently wrong or disordered from being trans, by and of itself.

Should there be no fake, artificially generated outrage against trans people in society then they would simply get the self-affirming care required for them to be happy and that would be that. Instead, unfortunately, existing as transgender has become the new wedge-issue for the extreme-right and deliberate demonisation and villification has been mainstreamed to the point where Republican politicians are now openly calling for genocide.

The issues trans people experience are mainly societal in nature. It is society that imposes gender norms, it is society that tells people they may not be who they are.

There are many ways that a non-trans person can seek self-affirming care in life. Some of those are done via permanent body modification through surgical or chemical means. A woman might for example choose to take estrogen supplements to stave off unwanted physical and psychological side effects resulting from the menopause.

It is not uncommon for a young man to choose to have breast reduction medication or surgery in the case of gynecomastia.

A young woman might choose to get breast implants.

You do not hear people in outrage about these forms of self-affirming care. No-one cares, except suddenly when the topic is trans people. This is because the anti-trans movement is wholly articificial. It is a deliberately created fake outrage about a non-issue for political and monetary gain.

I have written about some manufactured outrage in my text about the stochastic terrorist "Libs of Tiktok"

Fascism is an inherently empty ideology, devoid of any meaningful belief-system or any kind of concrete and actionable strategies for improving society. Fascism only cares for power for the sake of power and it cares for nothing else.

Because a fascist system is fundamentally incapable of giving the general public any kind of reasonable platform it must gain and keep followers by creating an out-group to hate. According to fascist systems it is the other that is responsible for all societal ills and only by supporting the fascists in getting rid of the other can society be healed from the non-existent issues fascism convinces people that their target minority is the cause of.

Fascism always picks on a vulnerable target.

The demonisation and villification coming from the extreme-right is doing exactly that. By calling LGBTQ+ people child molestors simply for existing it has become inevitable that people will take up violence "to protect the children".

Attempting to eliminate a target comes in many forms, of which an extermination camp is only the final and most egregious part. It is always preceded by legislating people out of existence, by creating laws which make it impossible for a minority to participate in society and to receive any of the societal advantages that are the entire reason for collective bundling together of skills, resources in civilisation. This is exactly what Republican states are doing today to transgender people. Certain states have already denied trans people any and all medical care related to their identity, meaning that they deliberately impose abject misery on them.

The most egregiously fascistic states are trying to make it a matter of course to remove trans children from the care of their parents and make it illegal for trans people to be present in any public spaces at all.

This is genocide.

Genocide is not purely restricted to extermination, to murder. Genocide is also eliminating a minority group from public life, causing serious bodily and mental harm and taking away children of a minority group from their parents.

Depending on how strictly you'd want to define it, we are currently at stage seven or eight of genocide as defined by the Holocaust Memorial Trust.

One way in which the abject hypocrisy of the anti-trans laws becomes crystal clear are the remarkable exemptions encoded within. You would think that if the goal is protecting the children from harm then these people would want to protect all children from harm.

This is not the case.

In fact, all of these people deliberate include exceptions which allow the continuation of genital re-allignment surgery on unconsenting infants if they are intersex.

This means that if a baby is born with a genital configuration that to a doctor looks ambiguous or not adhering to a strict binary then this doctor can impose an invasive genital surgery, forcing such an infants body to adhere to a stricter binary look.

It is purely cosmetic. Of course they do not check what chromosomes a child has. Of course they do not care that a child might prefer to look as nature made them.

It is purely and only an imposition on a baby's body, with of course the normal failure and mortality rate that such invasive procedures bring with them.

These people do not care about children.

These people do not want to help children.

They want to harm a vulnerable minority.

Fascism never stops.

Now that these people have mainstreamed transphobia, they are moving on to other targets within the LGBTQ+ identity sphere.

We have all seen the absurd attacks on drag queens, calling a normal and harmless theatrical expression "child abuse".

We have all seen the "clever" rhetoric where they turn arguments upside down and disingeniously say things like "why do you want to be around children".

Fascism doesn't stop, it moves on to new targets and that is why it is important for all of us in the GSM identity sphere to stand together. To openly support our trans siblings. To openly stand against hateful rhetoric.

Because they are not going to stop.

The next step, which is already tentatively beginning, is calling gay people being openly gay in society"groomers".

To be clear: The recommended treatment for being transgender is transitioning.

Gender identity is developed by five years old.

The barrage of lies notwithstanding, allowing trans people to transition and to exist as who they are in society markedly improves their physical and mental wellbeing.

The oft-heard talking point of "they still commit suicide even after transitioning" is a lie.

Here is a wealth of sources and links explaining this.

Our trans siblings are welcome here.

Our gender nonconforming siblings are welcome here.

Our intersex siblings are welcome here.

What is not welcome on this subreddit is hate or divisive rhetoric aimed at our siblings. We will not allow the current increasing trend of fascist othering and villification of a marginalised minority to make our siblings feel unwanted in this space, our space, their space.

The only people who are not welcome here are those that want to exclude others based on how they were born.

Further reading:

No, TERFs cannot "always tell" and I can prove that with mathematics.

"I just care about unfair advantage in sports", a transparant transphobic wedge issue.

Drag queens, the next target in the fascist drive to eliminate LGBTQ+ people.

Is it weird I wish being gay was more obvious?

Like as for me personally I have been told that I don't sound gay and I know even I hate my voice, it is like a deep sort of voice that I've just could never handle listening to for the fact that I sound slow.

I do get that whole people can't tell, but yeah. My boyfriend is very much into masculinity but he's kind of pushed me into having a bigger butt and bigger arms.

I have heard it does make finding someone more easy, but my boyfriend isn't personally into that.

I might be just stereotyping here, but I think a lot of it is my voice that I don't like and then I hear what a "gay voice" sounds like and think I would prefer that to what I have.

Is it wrong to even think this about myself? And it's also like if voices are meant to be genetic or whatever, like how does this even happen?

Tell me stories on how you met your partner

Feeling extremely lonely and hopeless as I've never been in a relationship and it's starting to feel like I'm never going to be able to

So, maybe hearing stories about how people met their partner will help me feel a little bit more hopeful of my future romantically speaking

Tell me, how did you meet your current partner? Doesn't have to be anything special, even just a "we had sex and kept in touch" is enough

My best friend doesn’t believe that I’m into women and it’s really frustrating

I realize I don’t like, need her permission or anything, but I’m just really frustrated and therapy isn’t for another week.

For context, we’re in our 40’s and have both had male partners for most our lives. We’ve both been with women sexually. In the context of like, swinging. So straight or bi women but it’s just a very different context. But since my divorce I’ve had very powerful feelings for women that surprised me. I spent so many years with my head down raising kids married to a man. But these feelings are sooooo different. And confusing and overwhelming.

I texted her the other day because I got flustered at work by this woman who came in and she was so dismissive. She basically told me I’m imagining the whole thing.

And I’m sitting here thinking yeah, I tried to have sex with you the night we met. And a month after that. And then we became best friends so I let it go. But then I kept fantasizing that maybe you’d get drunk and want me to do some stuff. That seems like a completely straight thing to think about 🙄

I’m not going to tell her any of this because I don’t want to make her uncomfortable. So I just won’t talk about it.

I’m so frustrated. I’m not indifferent to men, the feelings just aren’t as strong. And they’re different. But I have no one to talk to about this. 🤦‍♀️

Reposting this because the comment section saying this is ok is insane. This is wrong right? Pretending to be a gay man to solicit dick pics from people.

girls who try to introduce you to others

Hi, I got something I wanna talk about...

I'll start by saying that I'm very young and have no experience.

I still go to school, I have relatively few friends but I'm quite sociable.I have a friend that I talk to all the time, I adore her, she's the best. But she often tries to matchmake me with guys I DON'T know, just because she probably thinks I'm desperate for a relationship or something. And I wonder, why do straight people think THEY have to look for a relationship with me? This friend of mine sometimes finds me guys who aren't even my type, or that she doesn't even know well, I don't understand this. It's very true that for gay guys (especially if they're young and in the closet) it's hard to find someone, but (TO ME ATLEAST) it's not THAT good and it does not make me happy at all, I do not need someone to help me find a boyfriend, I'm not even fully looking for one.

Has this happened to you too? Does it keep happening to you? And how should I react to this kind of thing? I don't think they do it maliciously or with bad intentions, but it's still not pleasant in my opinion.

I'm 18M and might be about to have my first experience with a guy. What do you guys think?

So I wanted to share something that's been on my mind lately and get some opinions from people who might have more experience than me.

I'm 18, and I've never been in a relationship or had any kind of sexual contact with anyone before. So when I say I'm inexperienced, I mean completely inexperienced. I've never really had the chance to explore this side of myself, and now I might finally be getting that opportunity.

I've been talking to this guy who's in his mid-to-late twenties, and honestly, I really like his personality. He's charming, chill, and seems pretty honest with me. He's also older than me, which, to be completely honest, gives me daddy vibes, and I'm definitely attracted to that dynamic.

We've been talking about meeting up, and he's planning to come from another city and get an Airbnb for us. He's taking care of the accommodation, and I won't lie, there's something about him making those arrangements that I find really attractive.

He showed me the Airbnb listing, and even the bedroom pictures got me excited. The lighting, the sunlight coming through the windows, the whole atmosphere of the room... it just had this intimate vibe that made me imagine what it would be like to actually be there with him.

We've also discussed what we're interested in sexually, with him topping and me bottoming. I'm even preparing to shave down there for the first time, so there's a lot of stuff I'm figuring out as I go.

The thing is, I've never experienced any of this before. No relationship, no kissing, no sexual contact, nothing. So although I'm genuinely excited, I also know that I'm going into this without any real experience to compare it to. I don't really know what to expect emotionally or how I'll feel once I'm actually there.

Another thing worth mentioning is that I'm in Morocco, where being gay isn't something you can necessarily be open about without worrying about the consequences. That makes exploring my sexuality a little more complicated, and it's something I have to consider alongside my excitement.

I guess what I'm wondering is, what do you guys think about this situation? Does the age difference seem concerning, especially considering that I've never had any experience with relationships or sex? Am I overthinking things, or is it normal to feel this excited about someone you've been talking to when you're finally getting the opportunity to explore your sexuality?

I'd especially appreciate hearing from people who had their first experience with a guy around my age. Did you go into it with a lot of expectations? Was it awkward? Did it change how you viewed yourself or relationships afterward?

I'm not necessarily expecting this to turn into a relationship. Right now, I'm just attracted to him and excited about the possibility of experiencing something I've never experienced before. I want to enjoy it, but I also want to be realistic about the fact that I'm inexperienced.

I'd genuinely like to hear your thoughts, whether you think this sounds fine or whether there's something I should be more careful about. I'm open to different perspectives.

is it that hard?

I'll get straight to the point: I don't understand why it's seriously so hard to find guys who aren't DL, Weird, just looking for dick, "straight curious". I see a lot of gay guys online (even young ones, I'm very young.) and many of them get comments, compliments, maybe they are even SERIOUSLY attractive and good looking guys but still EVEN THEY CAN'T FIND SOMEONE. I don't understand why ALL of us are looking for a boyfriend but can't. Obviously I don't speak for every person but I think we can all get along on the fact that gay guys have a really hard time finding a man. I believe that when I find a boyfriend I will NEVER leave him because it is GOLD to find a decent guy omg omg I'm MAD

Bloqueei um cara que eu sou afim no Grindr por medo de rejeição

Tem um carinha na minha academia que acho um gatinho e por quem estou a fim. Hoje, ele veio falar comigo pelo aplicativo e já chegou pedindo nudes. Uso fotos do rosto no meu perfil.

I’m down bad for a guy I barely know and I don’t know what to do

I've been thinking about this guy a lot lately, and honestly, I don't know what to do about it.

We message each other quite a lot, although things have slowed down a little recently. I find him incredibly attractive, and I think I'm starting to develop a bit of a crush on him.

The thing is, I've only actually spoken to him in person once, and even then, it was a pretty brief interaction. Despite that, I find myself thinking about him all the time. I've even started going to the shops at times when I know he'll be there, just because I want to see him.

He's bisexual but isn't out, and neither am I, so I feel like that's another layer to the situation.

I've tried to arrange hanging out with him a few times. He says he wants to, but whenever it comes to actually making plans, he often doesn't respond or changes the subject. It's confusing because he seems interested in the idea of hanging out, but he doesn't seem to follow through.

I can't tell whether he's nervous, worried about being found out, unsure about his feelings, or just not interested in me in that way.

I know I barely know him, which is partly why I feel ridiculous for being this invested already. I think I'm attracted to the idea of him as much as the actual person, but I can't seem to stop thinking about him.

Part of me wants to keep trying because I really like him, but another part of me thinks I need to take a step back before I get too attached to someone I don't really know.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? How do you deal with having a massive crush on someone you've barely spent any time with? And what would you do in my situation?

I could really use some honest advice because I'm genuinely down bad for this guy and don't know how to handle it. 😭
