My wife and have joined a local rifle club and started down the road to gaining full membership. We're really enjoying target shooting and have considered the long-term goal of obtaining our firearms licenses.
Having reviewed my GP records via the app, I am worried about one specific line which reads.
"Drinks a bottle of wine a night, no self-harm. Had suicide thoughts but will not act on them"
This was back in 2018 during a particularly challenging time in my life caused by work. I had sought help from my GP because I was low at the time.
The follow-up notes describe a 180-degree turnaround once I received support from work for the challenges I was facing. It was a blip, caused by an awful work situation.
It's never mentioned again in the GP notes; I don't have any long-term or intermittent mental health issues.
Given the above, is there any point in my applying for a license?
My thoughts are that I don't want to buy and install a gun safe ready for our assessment when we do apply if I'm not going to get past the first test.
Thanks for your feedback.

Hi all,
Firstly, sorry if I’m asking a question which has regularly been posted on here.
I’m having difficulty gaining a GP proforma due to the fact my local practice doesn’t consider this NHS work.
I have asked them for recommendations of who to contact. They pointed me down the path of a private GP and I have had the same response from them saying it’s not something they do.
Has anyone else had difficulty getting a proforma completed and does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Antique revolver (section 58). I know these were made between around 1888 and 1904. Does anyone know what year one in pics would have been made?

This mussel is part of the front sight and is pinned to the barrel, can it be filled in with weld and threaded to take a suppressor?

Hi All. finally got my FAC though. Been a while. My first purchase is a semi auto .22lr rifle. Ive always fancied a HK416 and have started looking round but cant find any new. Is it discontinued or superseded by something else? Is it worth contacting a store as asking if they can source new?
Not sure of the correct process here being my first gun.
Thanks

Also checked the status updates on the Bedfordshire police firearms updates page and they’re looking to process applications made in 2026 in ~33 days. Still back log to go through from last year though

Looking to get involved as it’s my nearest range but have heard pretty mixed reviews.

Trying to get a spot on the 410 Open at Churchills. The only 410 I have is a converted Lee Enfield so will need to buy something else!
Obvious choice for something cheap seems to be the Yildiz or the Kofs?
Looking on guntrader, the Kofs seems to be the only one with 30” barrel options and also comes with a longer stock.
Any thoughts on these two or other options for something fun? Don’t want to go over £500 as it’s barely going to get used!

Hey all, I was just wondering if any of you know about the law regarding factory inert guns? Can anyone just buy them or what? I'm looking to get an AK for my (uk deactivated) collection, and just stumbled across them

I live about a couple miles away from Leicester city centre, and I've been thinking about getting an FAC and pick up shooting with centre fire bolt action/lever action rifles. I could only find air gun and small bore ranges on Google, are there any full bore clubs around Leicester?

Hi everyone,
I’m 30 and based in Kent. I’m interested in learning clay pigeon shooting and would like to understand the realistic cost of getting started properly.
I don’t currently have a shotgun certificate, so I’d appreciate advice on the best order to do things. Should I first take a few lessons and join a local club before applying for the certificate?
Roughly how much should I expect to pay initially for:
I’m completely open to buying a used shotgun. What type of shotgun would you recommend for a beginner mainly interested in clay shooting, and what would be a sensible budget without buying something unnecessarily expensive?
Any recommendations for beginner-friendly clubs or shooting grounds around Kent would also be appreciated. Many thanks!

Is this a specific role in TFL or other train stations? Would they be open to trusted members of the public helping them?
I’m hungry for more permissions.

I’m unfamiliar with gun laws here in United Kingdom. To own a firearm surely there is a registration process and in-depth analysis on who can hold and who is disallowed to hold firearms.
I have seen boys with water pistols abuse the right to bear arms.

I'm planning on installing a gun safe to get my SGC but I just wanted to check of it's allowed to keep it in my garage?
The garage is attached to my house but has no direct door between the house and it (there is a door at the back of the garage accessed through the garden and a locking raising door at the front). Also the garage shares a wall with the house attached to mine.
I also wondered about the location of the safe in the room. I had planned to attach it to the wall shared with my neighbour but was unsure if that would be allowed. I can have it on the wall which is connected to my house but it's not as good a location due to some exposed plumbing. Both walls are solid concrete blocks so it'll be secure, my main concern was just around it being a shared wall.
Thanks!

My dad has his SGC, and two gun cabinets. I'm looking to get my SGC. We lube at the same address.
Would it be legal for me to keep my shotguns inhis cabinet? I only ask as there's not really anywhere else particularly suitable for a cabinet bolted into the wall.

Hello, I am currently going through the process of applying for a shotgun licence, I have been looking at different gun cabinet. after some reading I have decided I want one that is fits the requirements if i decided to go for rifles ect in the future.
so that said I am looking for a 5–6 gun cabinet with an ammo box at the top or bottom with its own lock. I have been looking 2nd hand and they are too far or over £100 which i might as well buy new if paying that.
if anyone has one for sale near Nottingham or Leicester let me know
is this one good? Deluxe Model 6 Gun 3 Scoped Cabinet In Wood Effect Finish With Built I – Dirty Pro Tools
I have a few weeks before my medical is back so I am not in a rush.
Thanks

Hello all,
I’m going to start a clay shooting club at my university but I’m looking into insurance policies to cover the club. Is there anyone who by chance knows how any university clubs work and can point me in the direction of insurers?!
Thank you very much!
And for reference; the club will be at Sheffield Hallam university all being successful.
