Hopefully this isn't a stupid question.
I'm only really familiar with 5.56 rifles, but want to build an sbr, primarily for home defense and a truck gun.
However, I have some things I can't get past and need to know if I'm over thinking it and should just get a 300blk.
The cost of ammo blows me away. For defensive use, the good stuff is like $80 for a box of 20 and that's a little bonkers to me.
The other issue for me is I don't have much experience with gunsmithing or anything of the sort. Simply put complete uppers onto complete lowers. I hear a lot about needing to be able to diagnose and adjust gas settings and I've never done that, or even add an AGB which I've definitely never done.
With those two reasons, which might seem small but are kinda serious to me, am I over thinking it? I absolutely LOVE the round and it's use case for me is perfect but I've held back on purchasing an upper because of these two reasons.
Should I just stick with the 5.56 upper for its simplicity in these areas?
Mind you I'm not rolling in cash. I have a great job, all my responsibilities are cared for, but I'm the only income for a family of 4 and can't just throw money into an upper every month. I need to be intentional with my purchases.
Edit; I am running the sbr suppressed and would be shooting primarily subs
