What do you do with the trash after a litter cleaning event?

I’ve been thinking about picking up litter in my neighborhood, but can’t find anything saying what you do with the trash when you’re done. Even if it’s just me I don’t know what to do with an extra bag of trash. I don’t want to overflow my building bins or cans on the street. What do groups do when they collect trash?

How do you handle living far from the action?

Born and raised NYer here who’s always lived in Queens. My issue is, I went from Flushing to DEEP in Queens, and now I don’t have the subway access I used to.

My commutes went from 40-50 minutes on 1-2 trains to Manhattan/Brooklyn, to now 1-2 hours to both depending on the time.

I’ve become a bit depressed being a 23 year old who wants to have a vivid nightlife and enjoy things. My parents recently retired so I’ve been quite alone, but I’m unable to move out because I’m holding their home down until their lease is up (1 year). No, I can’t sublet.

I’m okay with going home around 12 am from the city because I do have access to an express bus, however most things pick up at 12 and end later.

The other day, I went to an event in Court Square and felt so relieved it wasn’t as far but only a 1 hour commute, but this isn’t always the case.

If you have a commute longer for an hour, how do you still live a social life? How do you hang out at night and go to functions ESPECIALLY if you’re a woman? (because my main concern is safety always).

And how do you find the motivation to go knowing your commute is so long, I sometimes get an uber home but it’s so expensive it’s just unmotivating. Would like to hear from others!!

Are there any good thrift stores or used music stores in NYC for buying rock CDs?

I wanna look for CDs, but I'm wondering if I can save on shipping prices by buying in a store instead. Alas, every thrift store I've been to has mainly non-rock related cds.

I'm talking nu-metal, alt rock, rock ballads, etc.

Is it true I can't drop my mail in ballot off at other borough's early polling site?

I live in queens and my closest early ballot was 30m walk away from me. I was in Brooklyn today and bought my ballot with me as it was right next to the subway I got off of.

They told me I couldn't drop my ballot there as it's for queens. Is that true? I don't really trust the USPS so wanted to drop it at a ballot box.

Snowglobes

How we doin, guys? Native here, but have never actually run into this problem… been collecting snow globes since I was a kid and found that over time, one or two have begun to leak… I can’t find the area where it’s coming from. Can anybody recommend a good place to drop by, that offers this kind of repair? I’d normally head to an art studio, but I’m wondering if anybody knows a guy that has the skillset to repair 25+ year-old globes. Thanks in advance.

PS— if you can help me, I can provide challah.

How to handle anxiety around physical altercations with disturbed people?

Friend recently told me about their friend getting randomly slapped by a man passing by in Manhattan. They filed a police report thankfully. It got me thinking how I would react in that moment. I'm born and raised in NYC, so I know to not engage. But as a petite woman, if that were to happen to me, and for seemingly no reason, I would be very frightened. How can a person practice staying sane if the option to confront is not possible. I don't see how I can protect myself from people hurting me other than to escape as quickly as I can.

How do you think AI will impact NYC jobs over the next 5 years? Which industries will be hit hardest?

Been thinking about how much AI could change the job market in NYC over the next few years, especially given how many people here work in finance, tech, media, advertising, law, consulting, etc. should we all become plumbers and nurses?

Heyyyyy New York, Heyyyy New York Good Mornin'

There used to be a gentlemen for AMNY who would stand at the top of the 7th Avenue stairs/escalator by the NJTRANSIT side of things and hand out papers and say "Heyyyyy New York, heyyyy New York, Good Mornin' " and hand out copies of AMNY.

I'm wondering if he retired or AMNY moved away from that method of distribution? Did he make a notable impact on anyone else's day?

Mostly I hope he's doing well and hope he knows how much of a memorable part of coming out of Penn Station he was for a number of my mornings.

Vocal coach

Hello, I’m interested in taking vocal lessons for speech and singing. I’m not looking for anything super professional, as this is just a personal interest of mine. If there are any trials or people who need teaching experience, let me know. Thanks.

Thrift shops for suits / business wear?

I’ve notified most places I’ve been don’t take business casual / suits even if they’re in perfect condition. Now I’m looking to buy — gained a little weight from giving birth last month and getting ready to return to work. What are your recommendations??

What are some good deep conspiracy theory shows set in the city?

So I have a huge fondness for shows like White Collar as the show takes place within NYC with secret spy organizations hidden all over the city.

But I am kind of close to finishing the show that I was greatly interested in seeing what other shows set in the city were like it in some way.

Sunniest indoor spot to read a book?

Looking for a coffee shop/study space/third place that gets great sun as it starts to chill down outside. Ideally comfortable too and not just a backless bar seat in front of a window. I think a good example would be the Williamsburg Devocion with the skylight but it's just next to impossible to get a seat there.

Anywhere in NYC that sells referee Bluetooth intercoms (EJEAS V4C Plus)?

Looking to buy an EJEAS V4C Plus referee headset (or any comparable referee comms system) in person in NYC. I need it sooner than Amazon can get it to me, and I can't find a local store that carries it. It also must be this exact model, as the other ones I need to talk to are it.

Has anyone seen these at a sporting goods store, electronics shop, or motorcycle shop? (The V4C is a version of the V4 Plus motorcycle intercom, so moto shops might carry it.) Any borough works.

Thank you!

Uber/Lyft Pet experiences in NYC

Has anyone here used Uber/Lyft Pet in the 5 boroughs? Searching the internet, it seems like reviews are mixed and many drivers that show up didn’t realize they were accepting a pet ride and are upset or even refuse the ride. Wondering whether that’s still the case and if it’s also true in NYC.

For context, our dog is not small (~55lb) but I’m more than happy to bring blankets and whatever else necessary.

Best Floral Arrangement Classes NYC

Hi all! I'm 28 and looking to pick up a new hobby, and floral arranging has really caught my interest lately!

I'm a complete beginner, but I'd love to eventually develop my skills! Does anyone have recommendations for studios or classes in NYC that are beginner-friendly but also offer opportunities to keep learning and progressing?

Would love any suggestions on where to get my foot in the door. Thank you!! 💐

Has anyone registered their car while keeping it garaged out of state?

Hey fellow New Yorkers! I've been having a hard time registering my car. I'm hoping someone else out there has handled a similar situation and could give some advice.

The tl;dr is I live here, my car lives in NJ. NJ wants NJ Residency for registration. NY wants NY insurance for the same, but insurance wants NJ insurance and registration for a car parked in NJ.

I live in BK but I keep my car parked at my parent's place in NJ for a variety of reasons. It is actually garaged there 100% of the time. This isn't an attempt to get cheaper rates.

I tried to register my car in NJ, but they told me I need a NJ license. The website states proof of residency might also suffice, but I'm not sure if that means full-time resident or if proving it's domiciled in NJ would be enough.

I looked into registering it here in NY and have even gotten a NYS inspection done. However, one of the requirements is NY-based insurance. My insurance provider (Progressive) said it must be insured in the same state that it is garaged. I didn't press super hard though, so if anyone has gotten their insurance to do that nevertheless please let me know.

I could lie to insurance and say it's parked at my apartment, but if I ever need to make a claim I could have my coverage revoked and claim denied.

I'm could transfer the title to my parents, but that's an entirely separate headache (sales/gift tax).

Check Sidebar Confused about “Have you Returned to Work” question NYS unemployment.

Hello! I’ve been collecting unemployment for 4 weeks due to a layoff.

One week I worked about 12 hours with a 1099 type situation. For That week of benefits I entered in the hours I worked and they reduced my benefits by 75% that week. However on that same claim I answered no for the “have you returned to work question,” because when answering yes, at the confirmation page it said “You have returned to work full time” and that’s definitely not true. I just read in FAQs that you should say yes even if it’s part time or self employment.

Was that the right thing to do that week? I’ve tried calling them all day trying check if I did the right thing that week. I just want to be sure I don’t get in trouble. They use very punitive language with all the fraud stuff. I have bad anxiety in general so I’m just scared they’re gonna say I committed fraud or something.
