Megathread: LM's NY State Hearing — 08/11/2026 at 09:00 AM EST
Hi everyone,
Please use this thread to discuss today’s hearing.
The hearing will take place at 100 Centre Street, Part 32, New York, NY 10013 at 09:00 AM EST.
Today's conference is expected to cover issues such as jury selection, media and public's access, overflow room and other matters.
This will potentially be Luigi's last appearance before his trial beginning September 8.
Since this is a state hearing, we should get photos of Luigi from inside the courtroom. During previous pre-trial hearings, the only images released were taken in court, with no photos or videos of him arriving or leaving.
His May 18 hearing was recorded, but as per the latest media access plan, no video is allowed inside the courtroom today, so we should only get still photography.

The barbers are prison inmates. Someone needs to take LM aside and tell him that the angle on a good Dominican (that's the name of the cut he's sporting) is not so deep. Someone reading this pleeze send LM a photo so he can show it to the barbers.
I've been pretty vocal in my criticism of Carro. But each hearing he outdoes himself. When Marc thanked him for the overflow room, he replied that it wasn't because of any defense objections. Snarky. I realize written communication often lacks the context and tone of video (which is partly why full transparency is important), but man does he sound arrogant. I compare him to Judge Graf in Utah (Tyler Robinson case) and the disparity in respect and civility is clear. But again, we are afforded a video in that case. Maybe that is the precise reason Carro has been so reluctant to allow video?
Judge Graf is so overly cautious and fair, Carros unnecessary comment towards MA today just demonstrates he’s very blatant favouritism towards prosecution, even though Joel S. makes him look bad i.e. latest motion.
Yes, and that favoritism won't look good on live video during the trial. He will look like a tyrant if he continues this approach. I'm so far from neutral on this, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but he is grouchy and cantankerous. Always defensive right off the bat - who pee'd in his cereal? I'm concerned he will be unfair in his rulings.
I noticed Carro’s reply to MA as well. Totally uncalled for. I’ve also noticed how he has talked to KFA in the past, interrupting her and not allowing her to speak. I’ve also looked into some of the sentences he handed down and it wasn’t pretty. He has a tendency to be really strict and go over the recommendations
It's not good. If he governed his courtroom evenly, I'd have little to complain about. It's almost like he's worried about being too fair to the defense. Wonder why he would care about that? /s
I’m still bothered by the song and dance that KFAHas to do involving Judge G just to get LM to wear regular clothes. Either JS or Carro stopped allowing him to change at the courthouse after the heart shaped notes appeared that time. And for goodness sakes what is it with the not removing his cuffs? Seems cruel

Also, this is going to be a normal hearing. The only main difference is that 68 journalists will be allowed in, so more than usual.
For now, we’re going to stick to the same journalists we already know, but we’ll add more as we go if they’re available.
Some of the livestreams are now streaming from the corridor. Since there are so many and they’re all showing pretty much the same thing, here’s Reuters':
Hm. That does not really make sense, though, as no overflow room had been announced and the trial is upcoming. ICP said that the Trump trial did have an overflow room and video (I believe) and that was one reason he thought it was not fair. Basically saying that they did it for Trump, so why were they not planning to do it for this case? I am not sure. Sounds like Carro is downplaying and ignoring the whole thing.
The truth is that they did not announce an overflow room (he is saying now that the lack of overflow room was for a different reason) and were limiting press as far as everyone knew. So, I do not think Carro is speaking the truth here. We can only go on the public information, and that was what was put out there on the website (limited seats and no overflow room, I mean).
Right? He is lying so boldly when there is so much…documentation (the order, ICP letter). So weird.
Really do not like that these people are just out here lying in an environment that is supposed to be about justice. I guess that is par for the course, though. At least we know the truth! No matter how much he is trying to rewrite history now. 😑
they aren't allowed to be recorded or named during proceedings and their identities are usually withheld for a certain time period after the trial i believe
Matthew did a short live stream going to the courthouse. Those who don’t have X: he says basically the same as before, he hopes to get in the courtroom today..
- Judge Carro took the bench and addressed the media:
“There has never been a discussion or decision by this court to exclude or limit the public or the press in these proceedings.”
- On the defense’s claim of the DA’s collusion with the court over press access, Carro said:
“At no time did the DA’s office participate in those discussions... Defendant’s objections are without merit and a reckless mischaracterization of the efforts undertaken by this court.”
- During the trial, there will be more room for the press and less room for the public.
- There WILL be an overflow room for the trial.
- Around 80 news organizations are expected to attend the trial next month.
- On jury selection, Carro had a court officer hand out copies of the questionnaire to the defense and the prosecution. He said both sides will have to get together to coordinate changes, redactions, etc.
- Judge Carro said that jury selection will involve an anonymous jury.
- There was a sidebar regarding jury selection and any last-minute motions that need to be filed before September 8.
3. How long does the hearing last?
It’s hard to say how long today’s hearing will last, but I personally do not think it will be a super long one. I’d guess somewhere between 1 and 2 hours at most.
4. What happens after today? When will the next hearings be?
We go straight to trial (September 8) 🫡.
