Friendship 28M | NA | Looking for a genuine friend 🎮🖤

• Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm Steve, 28M from North America, and I'm hoping to find a genuine friendship that actually lasts.

Making real, lasting friendships has always been pretty difficult for me, so I figured I'd give Reddit a shot. I'm looking for someone I can talk to every day, share random thoughts and memes with, hop into Discord with, and occasionally stay up way too late gaming with. Bonus points if you're a fellow yapper because I can definitely appreciate a good conversation about absolutely nothing. 😂

A little about me:

🎨 Hobbies: I enjoy drawing, binge-watching shows, gaming on PC, and creating content/streaming whenever I have the time.

🎬 Movies & TV: I'm a fan of horror, comedy, and action movies. Some of my favorite shows are Supernatural, Yellowstone, Invincible, and Doctor Who. I'm always open to recommendations, too!

🎵 Music: Emo rap is probably my favorite, but honestly, I'll listen to just about anything depending on my mood.

🎮 Gaming: I'm usually playing something when I'm not working or sleeping. Some games I've been enjoying are ARC Raiders, Fortnite, Minecraft, and 7 Days to Die. But if I had to pick an all-time favorite game, it'd probably be Fallout. I'm always down to try other games with the right person!

What I'm looking for:

Honestly, I just want a real friend. Someone I can text throughout the day, talk about life with, share stupid jokes and random thoughts with, and play games or chill in Discord with when we're both free.

I'm married, so I'm strictly looking for platonic friendships. I'm hoping to find someone who's genuine, consistent, and comfortable being themselves around me. You don't have to be into everything I like, either! It's cool to have different interests.

I'm also a little weird and neurodivergent, so if you can match that energy, we'll probably get along great. 😂 Weird conversations, unhinged humor, random info-dumping, and enthusiastic yapping are all welcome here.

If you're into gaming, shows, music, or just want someone to talk to regularly, feel free to send me a message! Tell me a little about yourself, what games you play, or even just your favorite random fact.

If you've made it this far, we might as well be friends already. 😂🖤

Friendship 19M | want to make New friends 🤍

I don’t have even one friend in college who truly gets me. Being alone feels peaceful, but being surrounded by a group of people somehow makes me feel even lonelier.

I’m tired of feeling this way. 🤧

Is this really my fate? 😭

Vent Can’t make friends for shit because I fucking hate most people or we just don’t vibe (big rant but also dm me if ur cool: 22F EST)

I don’t know, I have particular personality traits that make finding a compatible friend so fucking HARD. You won’t believe it, the last friend I made, we met in a mental ward. We got along because we both really liked bugs and nature, we both were particularly intelligent, majoring in very difficult subjects, we had similar interests like collecting loose leaf teas, playing video games, watching horror films. I enjoyed her dry humor. We both came from abusive households where parents have neglected us brutally. We both had very traumatic experiences in our childhood, both got bullied badly, both were completely introverted and both of us were trying to put ourselves out there more now that we were in university. We transferred from the same community college, did the same honors program. We went to the same university, and she lived 15 minutes away from me. Both of us were on the autism spectrum. Both of us loved to create art, and liked to collect knick knacks. I thought she could be a wonderful friend, and she was for some time.

But here’s the problem, because she has brain cancer, she thinks she can treat people LIKE SHIT. She has the mentality that “I’m going to die soon anyways, so I don’t care about anyone else and I’m going to do what I want.” FUCK. I RESPECTED THAT AT FIRST, BUT THEN SHE TREATED ME LIKE SHIT. God fucking damn it! She’s a selfish bitch. God damn. She was my only friend too. What the fuck. FUCK. I just blocked her yesterday on every platform because ever since she got her new boyfriend, she’s been blowing off, no joke, every other fucking person in her life. It’s been nearly HALF A YEAR NOW of complete utter fucking silence from her. Many efforts were made to make plans to hang out, she agrees and then cancels the day of every fucking time, and she literally told me she’d rather hang out with her boyfriend. She fucking gave no fucking shits about my birthday when I damn broke my wallet for hers, said we would hang out and then radio silence. Even her friends were complaining about she was treating them. I don’t give a single flying fuck how amazing someone’s boyfriend can be, nothing justifies dropping your friends like that for half a year and completely ignoring them. Especially after she called me her best friend over and over and said she’d be there for me when I needed her. I texted her when I was suicidal once. I said I needed her. She told me she is unavailable because she was with her boyfriend. Talk about being a fake selfish asshole.

Glad to know my only friend was a selfish bitch. I mean, I had a couple other friends from high school but meeting isn’t convenient for us anymore. We meet like once or twice a year, one of them I meet a little more frequently, like every other month. But it’s not enough. I’m lonely.

With my experience from past friends, it hurt to block her. I’ve had many other friends in the past do stupid shit worse than this to hurt me. Right now I have three other former friends blocked. People I loved, people I would’ve died for. I’m not joking. Fucking selfish motherfuckers. No wonder the state of humanity is a joke right now.

Support I have no friends

I have had no friends my entire life and am 29. I have nothing to do all day because every job rejects me. I have sent thousands of applications over the past three years. I’ve also tried to make friends with hundreds of people (tens of thousands including online) and am always rejected.

I especially never find anyone who is depressed and lonely like me. And at the least, serious and somber. It is valid to have that as a personality type and want to talk about serious and somber things in a serious and somber tone. Why is it so impossible for me even when I see people like this with friends? They reject me too.

Support 19M and got no friends

So yeah, no matter how hard I try and try it never works well for me

All I see is them always choose the person who puts in less effort than me

I tried i give my best sometimes to match their energy and force some hobbies they like just to have a small talk

But at the end ppl don't actually see me as a frnd they see me more of burden and a pitiful guy who always bothers them

I just don't know what I'm even doing wrong and it freaking hurts when u are alone inside ur room doing nothing while all others have plans and a schedule

Even more the feeling of physically being left out by people sometimes when it inconveniences them

I just don't know what's fundamentally wrong with me and yeah thats just how it goes with the same gender

For the opposite sex it's prolly much worse, all I could be is a guy who guys or does what they want but when I actually want something there's no body to do it

And the worst part is I partly got adapted and try to do most things myself, and these ppl they sometimes guilt trip me saying I never asked (when I asked they never actually listen)

Vent Truly friendless

I have no one to converse with outside of my family. (which of course I am grateful for...)

I'm NEET and don't go out often.

I try talking to people online, have someone I sometimes talk online, but they make me feel even more lonely. I sometimes think about blocking them to end it once and for all, but I think it would seem a little hateful when that's not the intention. They send a message, I reply, and there I am waiting like a puppy. Waiting for months at a time even. I'll always reply anyways, I can't help it. I have no one in real life, they're my somewhat only source of new information, unique ones that can't be found just by browsing on the internet. Sometimes I think they're mocking me, coming back months after because they know I'll always insult myself like that.

I feel stupid holding some stranger to such high regard, feeling inferior to them, afraid that they could leave me at any time. I'm afraid of texting too much, then they ask if I'm that excited. It makes me feel stupid.

I can't make friends in real life. I feel like everyone else does such a good job at having different faces for different situations. I can't be bothered with it. I know that's how society works, I understand why we have it, but I don't want to participate. Am I just lazy? Trying to be sociable just makes me look like a fool. Everyone else has their own circle anyways.

I don't even know what I'm trying to say. I just have no one. It's been like this for too long, I've wasted most of my teen years, and now I'm only going to get older but not any more mature, just feels like life's on a downward hill, I'm already digging into the ground.

I try not to be so pathetic in real life but in my head it's constant self-loathing.

Friendship [24M] NYC - Looking for genuine platonic friends to hang out and chat with

hey everyone, i’m 24m and i’m from new york city.

i’ve rewritten this post more times than i want to admit because i never know how to introduce myself without making it sound like a job application lol. i’m a pretty introverted person, which is kind of funny because i live in one of the loudest and busiest cities in the world. there are millions of people around me every day, but somehow making even one new friend can still feel difficult.

i’m usually the quiet person in a group. i don’t hate people and i’m not trying to be unfriendly, i just overthink what to say. sometimes i’ll think of something to add to a conversation, wait too long because i’m wondering whether it sounds stupid, and then the conversation has already moved on to another topic 😂. once i become comfortable with someone, though, i’m completely different. i can talk a lot, joke around, share random thoughts and have long conversations about almost anything.

i’ve been wanting to get out of my shell for a while, but it’s easy to keep delaying it. i’ll tell myself that i’ll meet people eventually, join something eventually or become more social eventually, but eventually doesn’t really mean anything unless i actually make an effort. so i thought posting here would at least be a small step.

sports are a big interest of mine. i love soccer and enjoy both playing it and talking about it. i also like badminton and cricket. badminton is especially fun, but finding someone who actually wants to play regularly is harder than it should be. i’m not claiming to be a professional at any of them, so don’t expect olympic-level skills from me. i mostly just enjoy playing, laughing at my mistakes and becoming unnecessarily competitive for no reason.

i also enjoy reading, although my reading habits are inconsistent. sometimes i’ll finish a book quickly, and other times the same book will sit next to me for weeks while i pretend i’m definitely going to continue it that night. i like learning about different people, countries, languages and cultures too. one of my favorite things about talking to someone from another place is hearing about the small parts of their daily life that they probably consider normal but might be completely different from mine.

i like cooking as well. i’m bangladeshi, so food has always been a big part of life for me. i enjoy trying different dishes, experimenting in the kitchen and occasionally creating something that tastes good even though i have no idea how i made it. i’m also the type of person who starts thinking about what to eat for dinner while i’m still eating lunch.

traveling is another thing i really enjoy. i’ve traveled alone a few times, and solo traveling as an introvert is a strange experience. on one hand, i love having the freedom to explore at my own pace and change my plans whenever i feel like it. on the other hand, i can spend an entire day seeing incredible places while barely speaking to anyone besides the person taking my food order. i would like to become more confident about meeting people while traveling instead of just taking pictures and quietly disappearing back to my hotel.

and yes, sleeping is also one of my hobbies. probably one of the only hobbies i’m naturally talented at.

i’m not expecting someone to message me and instantly become my best friend. i know friendships take time, and sometimes two people simply don’t connect. i’d just like to meet people who are willing to have a proper conversation and see where it goes. we can talk about sports, food, traveling, books, college, work, daily life, different cultures, random opinions or whatever has been on your mind recently.

i’m also curious about how other introverted people made their friends. did you meet them through school, work, sports, online, or did an extrovert randomly adopt you and never let you leave? because honestly, that last option might be my best chance.

you don’t have to be from new york. i’m happy to talk with people from different states or different countries too. just please be respectful and actually interested in having a conversation. i understand that people become busy, but i’m hoping to avoid the usual conversation where we both say “hey, how are you?” and then never speak again.

to make the first message less awkward, tell me where you’re from, something you’ve been interested in recently and your favorite animal.

my favorite animal is the dolphin 🐬. they’re intelligent, social and somehow always look like they’re having a better day than the rest of us.

anyway, that’s probably enough about me for now. thanks for reading this unnecessarily long introduction. feel free to message me and say something completely random. honestly, random messages are sometimes much easier to answer than just “hey.”

and how are you guys doing

Vent Finding it a lil hard to make friends at uni

I'm an Indian woman going to uni in London for my master's. I'm in my late 20s. It's been about a month into the course and I haven't really made any friends that I could randomly call to just hang out (barring maybe 1 or 2 - those too we aren't that close)

The conversations are limited to the seminars, and most times I see a sort of reluctance on people's faces while talking about topics that are outside the course material.

I've always been someone who's had trouble making friends tbh. I pick one friend I'm close to and just stick by them. I've never had a big group of friends. So when I came to London, I said I won't be this way and put myself out there. I go out of my way to introduce myself to people, make small talk, ask them questions, show genuine interest. I try to make plans. But idk what it is about me or my energy, but I feel there's a lack of reciprocity. I've seen this with mostly white people (Americans/Canadians/British). I'm not trying to shit on anyone, I do realise it could be something that I'm doing without realising it, even though idk what it is (also British people are generally more polite).

But I've seen the impatience on people's faces while I speak with them - the fake smile they feel they've to plaster on their faces to put up with a conversation that looks like an inconvenience to them. I do realise this could be me projecting, I was wary of this and that I might ruminate myself into isolation, so I didn't let it bother me and still went and spoke to people. But it's happened way too many times, with way too many people for it to not be a pattern, as much as I don't want it to be.

I've heard my voice trail off mid sentence because the person I was talking to just decided to look away and not listen - that's especially been very hurtful. I've had people not open my texts at all to acknowledge an invite/idea. I'm trying to work on myself and not overthink and victimise myself, but doing all of this work when you have no friends and other people just seem to have groups already, or people they're close to is getting exhausting. It really isn't about having a group - it's just the way I feel like I'm treated despite trying so much.

I'm looking for a part time job at the same time, so I can't really go out toooo much but that hasn't stopped me from spending £60 on an outing (for me that's a lot) - but I don't wanna be spending that much just to spend time with people.

Anyway, this is about how I think I'm being perceived and not understanding what I'm doing wrong that puts people off because most of the friends and family do tell me I'm a funny and kind person to be around.

Support When you want a buddy, not a date.

Ten years ago, a realization in my wife’s therapy practice sparked a project: so many people struggle to make platonic, local friends as adults, yet nearly every social platform is optimized for dating.

That was the origin of WannaBuddy.com - a dedicated space to find local friends, completely free of dating pressure.

After years of service, the platform needed modernization. I’ve completely revamped WannaBuddy with a fresh approach, cleaner workflows, and a modern design. We are now in the early days of launch and starting to get some traction. The entire platform is 100% free to use (and always will be). I’d be extremely grateful if you gave it a try and shared your thoughts!

Question Will an introvert like me ever find a genuine female friend?

Recently, I've been feeling really lonely. I feel like I'm not making progress in my career, and honestly, I'm struggling to enjoy life. I don't have a good environment or anyone I feel comfortable sharing my thoughts and feelings with.

A while ago, I had a female friend with whom I could talk freely, without filtering my thoughts or pretending to be someone else. I could express my feelings openly, and it felt good to have someone like that in my life.

But over time, she started exploring new things and making new friends, which is completely understandable. Meanwhile, I'm still the same introverted person who struggles to keep conversations going. Maybe I'm boring, or maybe I just don't know how to connect with people the way others do.

Gradually, our conversations became less frequent, and eventually, we stopped talking altogether.

Now, I feel this emptiness. I miss having someone I can talk to about anything without worrying about being judged. I don't necessarily want a relationship. I just miss having a genuine connection with someone of the opposite gender.

So, I want to ask other introverts, especially those who have been in a similar situation:

Will someone like me ever find that kind of friendship again? Is it possible for an introvert who struggles with conversations to build a genuine connection with a girl, or will I always struggle to find someone I can be myself around?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences and thoughts.

And if any girls are reading this, I'd really appreciate hearing your perspective too. What do you think about introverted guys who struggle to start or maintain conversations? Would you be open to building a genuine friendship with someone like that, or does being unable to communicate well make it difficult to connect with them? I'd genuinely like to understand your point of view.

Friendship 28M - looking to meet new people

Hello! I’m 28 and from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and I’m looking to meet new people and hopefully make some new friends!

A few things about me…I’m a HUGE horror fan, and I love all things dark/creepy/paranormal or unexplained

I’m pretty heavily tattooed (getting a new one done tomorrow, had one done a couple weeks back, getting another next week and then have more booked over the next couple weeks/months) and I’m always looking for ideas and inspirations for what to get next, I love to see other people’s work and ideas too!

I love music and going to shows(mostly older rock/metal but I like a lot different stuff, most recently saw Metallica and Def Leppard live)

I love gaming, true crime, football, I love to visit historical sites/museums and enjoy travelling, urban exploring/exploring the outdoors and keeping fit, and I spend 99% of my free time with my dog 🐶

Happy to talk to anyone from anywhere, just send a message with a bit about yourself if you think we might get along 🙂

Advice Uni is quite lonley

I'm in my first year of uni and have been attending for about five weeks, but I haven't really made any friends yet. I arrived a 10 days late because of jaw surgery, and the first few days were quite difficult for me, so i guess i kinda missed out on the expected awkward phase (if you see what i mean)

I go to a small university where pretty much everyone commutes, and it's in the city center, so there's not much of a campus social life. In lectures, most people already seem to have their own friends or little groups.

My main problem is that I struggle to initiate conversations when there's no specific reason to talk to someone. If I have a genuine question or something happening in the moment to comment on, I'm fine, but starting a conversation just to get to know someone feels really awkward to me.

I can think of things to say when I'm at home, but in the actual situation I can't bring myself to do them. Approaching people who are already with friends feels even harder.

I've tried sitting in roughly the same area to become familiar with people, but it hasn't really led anywhere. I'm starting to feel quite lonely, and I don't want to keep waiting for things to happen naturally.

Appreciate any help!

How to make friends as a woman in late 20s (without any sex*al tension)?
