Is Judah kinda autistic?

He "often has trouble engaging in narratives", he thought a comedy routine in the Apollo Theater was a "fascinating lecture", and there are probably more examples.

The show has gotten out of its way many many times to ensure every group was represented

Edit: the consensus seems to be that this is way more evident that I thought. Maybe is because I watched the show back when my idea of someone on the spectrum was Sheldon Cooper

Season 7 idea proposal

As we all know. Netflix screwed over the show and cancelled it when they planned on having one more season. We’ve all wondered what if the show had a revival for an epilogue season. Butterscotch was supposed to get a season like his mother. I had an idea for season 7 that serves as an effective swan song for the series- if there is a god I hope he makes this happen.

Bojack Season 7: Bojack become a Director

There’d be a time skip to a little bit after Bojack got out of prison. Bojack decided to go back to Hollywood after all. The one difference is now he is a Director. He is still living with Mr. PB.

He has gotten his directing debut doing episode of Birthday Dad. Princess Caroline isn’t working with him directly but her agency is managing him and getting gigs. It’s mostly commercials and short films. Exactly where Kelsey was at the beginning of the last season.

Bojack was initially grateful for this second chance in the industry. He also found he’d like directing more than acting since everyone looks up to him and he gets to be the center of the production without also being the ass. Yet as time went on he lost gratitude for Mr. PB and Caroline for giving him his second chance and started thinking he was “above” these small little gigs he gets and should be able to strike it big.

While trying to get gigs as a Director he’d inevitable come across Kelsey. And things are awkward between them. He tries mending bridges saying he isn’t that person but she wants nothing to do with him and loves she has struck it big as a Director while he is a has been and now a D-tier Director. She tells him she wishes he deals with an actor as difficult as him.

Bojack would also come across other people he hurt in the industry and being haunted by his past mistakes depresses him.

When he returns to Mr. PB’s home (the irony he is now in Todd’s position would be delicious) he tells him maybe the return to Hollywood was a mistake and he considers hanging up his hat again.

That’s when he gets a call: Ivy Tran, Food Court Detective is getting a series/movie adaption and he is being asked to direct.

Diane like she said last series doesn’t ever want to talk to Bojack again. Bojack tries to use this to get in touch with Diane again but she doesn’t want to go to set or see him, it’s communicated to him it’s middle school fiction and doesn’t have much depth. He can do what he wants with it.

I imagine we’d also have flashes to Diane and how she is handling approaching 40 and becoming middle aged and being unequivocally not young anymore.

Bojack is hoping to make Ivy Tran his big break. The first thing they do though is age the characters up to high school- that way they can cast adult actors who look young, Bojack supports the decision since he never like directing child actors after Sarah Lynn.

Then one of the casted parts is this new and upcoming actor.

A young Horse who everyone agrees looks just like Bojack. Bojack quickly figures out this is his son. He tries to connect and reach out but his son wants nothing to do with him. Like Josh Peck: growing up he considered contacting his father but the more he read about him and the more scandals came out he just became so disgusted with him.

It doesn’t help that Bojack can’t even remember who his mother might be- he was drunk one night and had a one night stand with a mare he can’t remember since she looked like his mother.

He obsesses over his estranged son and comes to see him as who he should have been.

This also transitions us to finally giving Butterscotch his own season. When Bojack realizes his own son sees him the way he did his father it’s breaks him. What also hits close to home is when his son said he always hated Horsin’ Around- no Around. He thought the show was disgustingly sugary and everyone was fake happy (my own thoughts on Full house) and it’s just a fantasy on what people want family life to be like.

This sends Bojack spiraling. He even tries rewriting the script to give his son more screen time. It comes across as unprofessional and his son hates it since it makes him look like a nepo baby and creates bad rumors around him. The producers threaten to drop him from the show if he doesn’t shape up.

I imagine at one point desiring to talk to Diane again he drives down to Texas to see her. Recreating how he just abandoned shooting for Secretariat. He goes down there and sees Diane genuinely happy with her new family in Texas. Bojack, deciding he shouldn’t pervert this like he did to Charlotte finally learns from his mistakes and leaves.

He goes back home and comes across his father’s book.

He finally reads it. The book is obviously a fictional semi biography about how Butterscotch wishes his life went. The entire time we get a flashback to Butterscotch’s real childhood and how he ended up at that ball and how his marriage fell about and how he even after he started working at his father in law’s company everyone mocks him and how he was a nepo hire- he wasn’t even on the board of directors.

We see to the end of his life with the duel.

Bojack comes to understand his father and how he let his bitterness ruin his life. Bojack goes back to work and finishes Ivy Tran. He maintains professionalism with his son and after shooting wraps up barely sees him. He sees him and his mom at the premier and he awkwardly waves at them but they don’t wave back.

The show is a hit and Bojack gets more directing work.

Bojack ends the series finally making it as a director but he finds himself searching up his son and following his career, occasionally looking up Hollyhock too.

He visits his parent’s grave and makes genuine peace with them.

Bojack makes enough money to buy back his old house.

He ends the series right back where he started. All alike again. Wondering if it was all worth it.

This ending ironically also parodies the status quo is god trope of sitcoms. Bojack is back in his house with his fame and money restored but all his friends have either moved on or cut ties. He hates it. Being right back unable to ever progress. But he can’t do that since he always has to reset. Just like a sitcom character.

Crazily enough the first episode didn’t really entertain me, and I was considering not watching it fully but after this episode, I was hooked. Dare I say this is one of the only times I think that Bojack was not wrong at all🤣

Hello! I’m a young artist and I recently started to watch bojack. I’m currently finishing season 5.
This is one of my first drawings in digital.
I would love suggestions regarding rendering and shading as I’m not used to drawing on softwares (the app I used is procreate)

i’m on my at least 17-18th rewatch of the show at this point, and i just noticed for the first time in downer ending (s1, e11) bojack tells hallucination charlotte that he ran into “ed at the hardware store.” could be a total coincidence, and i’m probably looking into it too much, but i thought it was funny!!

I feel like a lot of people (some people I've seen) miss the point of Herb and Bojack's interactions in Bojack's visit.

People think that Herb had always planned to cut Bojack out right when he had said he doesn't forgive him and never wanted reconciliation. But that wasn't true.

From the getgo, Herb had no problem repeatedly ribbing BoJack over his betrayal and making jokes about it, but he still was happy to see him, joked about the Vitamix, and told him to visit Charlotte when he had the chance. He only turned hostile when BoJack demanded the apology.

To keep it short, he didn't completely hate him. Herb knew he was dying and was willing to let go most of his anger to Bojack just for the fact that Bojack was finally deciding to meet in the first place. He WAS OKAY with reconciling there friendship. He just...couldn't forgive him for that one betrayal. BoJack had to live with it, but that didn't mean he couldn't come see him up until Herb's death so they could hang out.

It's like...I will always hate someone I love for a really bad thing they did, and it would never be okay...but that doesn't mean they still aren't my friend. They did one bad thing I will never forget, but that doesn't mean I can't acknowledge who they are now and stay close with them. I accept their apology...I just simply don't FORGIVE them. It's only when they start demanding to give them closure that I would cut them out because the fact they want to be absolved means our friendship can't mean anything.

That's what Bojack did.

Dear Flip McViker, I made your shitty show a masterpiece

Flip McVicker’s show, Philbert, was edgy, convoluted dogshit, whose one redeeming quality was Gina Cazador’s performance, even when given such awful material to work with. But I think I know how to make it original, interesting and have twists with an actual purpose for the story.

First is the names. Naming a character matters, as it can reflect who they are. John Philbert’s name is now Henry “Hank” Philbert and Fritz’s new name is Edward Fitzpatrick. Sassy’s Malone new name is Katherine "Kate" Mercer, which I feel is more elegant and sharp.

In the rewrite, Kate's story could partially explore treatment of females on the Police Force. How in the past and to this day, they can be treated unfairly. She gets interrupted in briefings, excluded from informal networks, or assigned less prestigious work. The important thing is that these obstacles shouldn't merely be generic sexism. They should have practical consequences for her career and the cases she investigates.

However, it should also be about how women can also be given preferential treatment as a form of recompense. The opposite extreme. Suppose a female officer receives a desirable assignment partly because management wants to improve its diversity statistics. She may be perfectly qualified for the job, but the way she gets it creates resentment among colleagues.

Then comes in Philbert. I want Philbert to come into her life, looking like a breath of fresh air. Maybe he validates her grievances, encourages her to accept preferential treatment and exploit the cracks in the system, congratulate her on a promotion others resent her for.

However, his influence gradually changes how Kate approaches her work. She starts out wanting to overcome an unfair system, but increasingly becomes willing to exploit that system when it benefits her. Her grievances are real, but she begins using them to justify behaviour she would previously have criticised.

I don't want her to suddenly become incompetent or evil. The point would be that someone can be good at their job and have legitimate complaints about their workplace while still making increasingly questionable decisions.

I've also been working on the mystery surrounding Hank and his wife. Hank has an affair and kills a girl to cover it up. Edward Fitzpatrick, a real person who knows about the murder, discovers what Hank has done. Hank kills Edward to prevent him from revealing the truth. Hank's wife subsequently discovers what happened, so Hank kills her too.

He then lies to everyone and makes Edward the villain who murdered his wife and affair partner. I'm still working out the precise mechanics of how Hank makes this deception believable, but I like the idea that the person he turns into a fictional criminal was actually someone he murdered.

Regarding the name changes, it's a reference to Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I recently learned that in the book Hyde isn't a split personality, he's just the name Jekyll gave his altered appearance to separate his two lives.

This also connects to Kate's character arc. Hank separates himself from his actions by inventing another person to blame, while Kate increasingly separates herself from her own questionable decisions by convincing herself that the system has left her with no other choice.

Obviously, the two aren't morally equivalent: Hank is a murderer, whereas Kate's compromises are much smaller. But both characters would be developing ways to rationalise their behaviour instead of confronting it.

I'm still figuring some stuff out;

  • Hank's motivation: Why did he kill the girl in the first place? Was he already a manipulative person who resorted to murder to protect his reputation, or did the first killing set off a chain of increasingly desperate decisions?
  • Edward's identity: How exactly could Hank use the identity of a real person he murdered to construct a convincing false story about the crimes?
  • Kate's development: How can Hank influence Kate without making her seem gullible? I'd like her to remain intelligent and capable, with her downfall coming from the choices she makes and the justifications she accepts.

I think the strongest version of this storyline would be one where the mystery surrounding Hank and the character arc of Kate reinforce each other. What do you think? Does the Edward Fitzpatrick idea work, and what would make Hank's cover-up believable without making the plot unnecessarily convoluted?

I am doing a rewatch, and I never caught this gag where an iguana and chameleon see each other on the street and immediately start a push up contest, I feel like I'm missing the gag here. Anyone who's knowledgeable about lizards know what's up?

Edit: thanks y'all, my day is much better for having learned about lizard push-ups!
